[Audyssey] More SAPI Frustration
Hello, all, Well, I've tried a few things to get my SAPI fixed, since I'd really like to be able to use it with vipmud, but it still isn't quite right. Here's what I've tried: I've installed Jim Kitchen's winkit file. I've reinstalled the SpeechSDK5.1.exe package. I've also installed the tts as well again. Now, my SAPI-dependent programs don't freak, but they don't speak either. VipMud, however, dings at me every time it tries to speak, but doesn't speak. Can anyone suggest what I need to do to fix this? I like VipMud, and would like to use it to the max...having a separate voice for editing and incoming would be totally excellent! Hi Chris, If you think the original LW sounds and music are good you really need to get my Lonewolf sound pack. I digitally remastered many effects and replaced some effects with better ones. As soon as I find it I'll upload it. I have found some better sounds since then so I will likely release an updated Lonwolf sound pack soon. I get that much, but I'll be the first to admit my spacial logic isn't great, and more often than not I don't end up getting into position until the ship's past me. Beware the Grue! Re: [Audyssey] Lone wolf sound pack.
the mission 2 destroyer is fairly easy, but the ones guarding the aircraft carriers in I believe mission 4 were a pest! It wasn't their hunting of me that was a problem, it was the fact that I just couldn't! targit the ones going at 30 nots. What I ended up doing was diving, getting into exact firing position at one of the aircraft carriers, rapidly surficing, unloading all my missiles, then diving again! It got the job done, but it was rather time consuming to say the least, and I'd have much rather been able to down the destroyers! Beware the Grue! Hi, I don't know if it is possible to cover every single mission in detail, but what it sounds like is what people need is a few simple training missions. Once you get the basic game mechanics it is really quite easy. I have beaten every mission out there for Lonewolf, and some of them were difficult and some were easy. Most of the ones I wrote such as the Midway mission was designed to be challenging. David Lant's missions were also designed for advanced players. Though, none of his missions have topped my battleship missions where you had to like destroy practically the entire Japanese Navy to get to the battleships. Even on easy that one is a pain to beat, and I remember David Greenwood teasing me about how evil I was for making such a difficult mission. Midway is my favorite mission. I have yet to sink the battle ship though. I cant spell it's name. Hi, Well, most of the time I am able to guess when to fire without using the built in targeting solution. I find being able to figure that out on my own comes in handy in some seriously tight situations. My favorite tactic is to take on the destroyers when they are actively hunting me. For example, take mission 2. To be honest I find that mission a bit boring because taking out the destroyer guarding the oil platforms is a piece of cake to sink. So to make the mission more interesting I will get his attention by flashing my radar, sonar, or something to let him know I am out there. Then, I basically try and out fox him in a one on one battle. I rarely loose on level 5 up against a single destroyer in a one on one fight. [Audyssey] night of parasite chapter 3.
Hi all. Ok I found the blade. However now what. Usually if there is a trap that goes somewhere there is a door or something in front of it or within jumping distance. I know that one has beaten the game, the blade goes slice, slice, stop for 1 second or maybe less then slice, slice again. My stratogy is this, if I jump this blade in theory I should be a step away from it and it should be behind me. I invision the blade is being a fixed saw like device. Based on that I know in theory I can jump it. If this is what must be done tell me, However I really can't see any other way passed it the other thing is that the blade seems impassable otherwise. I have one second to step so I should jump. getting back may be the issue, I noticed there is a card door later in the chapter so I suspect I don't verse everything at the end where the blade is, the good thing is that the guidence says there is only 1 blade. It sertainly is hidden well though. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. well I don't botheer with the target system, as long as you can get a direct on angle to the target, ie 0 degrees then hitting it is not a problem. Hi guys. can't jump the blade and when I steped left to get round it I found a bollard. Now unless I am mistaken its a dead end unless there is a way to get buy. I thought I got buy since the blade was not making noise, but obviously I was inside it and hit the edge or something. however if this is the case there either is a large wall in front of it or the passage continues. If possible I'd like to jump it but this is a tricky thing. also the rats are a nusance, they use all my amo. I am using all of it just to fight them. there really needs to be something like rat poision that I can use to kill all the rats for the duration of the time I am in the room, in question. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. aah thanks muna. When I found all 4 enterances at the bottem I knew there was only 1 left to go. but it seemed impossible to get to. The only thing is that the monsters don't attack when I am close to the blades, so that gives me time to reload my gun. and equip my kits. Due to carefull management I actually got off better than I should have in the other 2 chapters. Ill go start banging away, thanks tonns. [Audyssey] another boss question
Hi. I have got up to the 2 blades in chapter 3. I got passed those but now I hve this bos to handle. Problem is I can't get to him, that easily, how is the best way to do that, I get closets and acid and other things and its almost impossible to get there then bang. I get hit with his lasers and die. I have almost no amo for the rifle or pistol although I have a box spare for the pistol and a few medkits as well as some amo for the minigun. I have an iron key so I suppose I really need to get another weapon. at first I thought he was the one needed to shoot with the pest gun but no obviously not as he keeps getting me, at any case he is hard to get at. Of the minor bosses I have I have killed 2 of them so far this chapter, there is a yello door and a blue door all of which I need look at but this is a really chalanging chapter. The mosquitos are getting annoying. I'd kill em if I knew i could get more amo for the pest gun. they get in the way in fact they shoot me when I try to get in to the boss area. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. [Audyssey] more nop stuff
I found another assembler in one of the small rooms in the second layer. One issue is that it seems to be inside an electric box. I got to the box and jumped it but could not find it. No big deal, but still. The other thing is the object in the sub store room. Since I can't find any other reason for it I am sure that this is the iron tank for the key I got in the game. But I have looked all over the store room and can't find it even on the shelves. Hi, Its been a while since I played that mission, but I think it was the Japanese battleship Yomato. Whatever its name the battleship isn't invincible. just takes several hits before he will die. Hi. Ok guys I need some assistance in this. The iron tank must be further on in the level. I had to brave an electric box in the storeroom but I got the asembler now and some more amo although have used all med kits, my hp is 180 of 200 its almost full. now exactly how do I get to the last boss with the blue magnetic card? there is an acid pond in the way. and I can't see him obviously he can see me. anyway There is no way around the cupboard. I can't even get into an optimal solution. and then I die. I may just have to quit, this is quite hard, how do I get at this guy, I have a minigun now, there is no more amo for the rifle, for me anyway. [Audyssey] ran across a very random mod for half life 2
hi list. for a few days now, i've been looking into mods for mainstream games that might make them playable by the blind. literally a few minutes ago, i ran across well all i can describe it as is a very strange sounding mod for half-life 2 called the blind monks society. from the sound of things it is fairly simplistic but i haven't even had a chance to look at it yet, all i've done is download the file containing the mod, so i suppose next step is to get a copy of half life 2 from somewhere. apparently this mod only takes around half an hour to play, but still i thought i should send the info to the list. oh for those of you wanting to download it the download servers are a little tricky to work with. if none of you can dl it, send a message to the gamers list and i can stick the rar up on send space or something. anyway, go to http://www.moddb.com/mods/blind-monks-society to get the mod. if anyone manages to get this working before me, can you let the list no? if you cclick the download link you get taken to a new page where you can find links to the mirrors hosting the file. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. [Audyssey] Top Speed 2.1 tournament
Hi list! I am probably supposed to introduce myself briefly, as I used to be an active member of this list some months or years ago bud then I had to retreat and stay quiet for a long period due to certain unpleasant circumstances, which means that many of the present members have already probably forgotten about me, and any newcomers won't know me at all. I never ceased to bean active audiogamer, however, even when there was no public word from me to the blind-gaming community. :-) My name is Lukas Hosnedl (the first name is gonna be tough enough for native speakers, I think, so it will do :-D), I am 18 years old, I live in the Czech Republic (let's say that it's located approximately in the center of Europe) and I've been totally blind since birth. Various computer-related stuff, including programming and gaming, has always fascinated me, urging me to get to know as much as I was able to comprehend from those areas, and to get my hands on plenty of computer or Play Station games, either mainstream ones with sighted assistance or those accessible to us. I also love music, especially all guitar genres, and all sorts of literature, all these hobbies in both forms, passive and active. :-) I was able to come back to this nice list now, but unfortunately I can't guarantee or estimate how long I will be able to stay... Here, finally, comes the main reason for my subscription and participation, suggested by the subject line. As the first and second release candidatesfor Top Speed v2.1 have finally been released, after years of anticipation, bringing quite a few changes and new features that we had hoped for since the last update and many more, obvious or not, a more or less complex idea of mine can at last come true. Over the last couple of days, I have been testing the new releases intensely with my good friend who, in addition, is a much better racer than I myself am, we have discussed this idea a lot, and now give it to you for consideration, and we strongly encourage you to go ahead and join us! As you must have already guessed by now, we plan to host a huge Top Speed tournament - well, it does not have to be that huge, it should be just huge enough for the amount of feedback and willing players we receive. The basic idea is as follows: 1. Anyone who feels like it should subscribe to the tournament within the next day or two - we do not have a lot of free time currently. Depending on how many people will be interested, we may be able to play a single qualifying race with everyone to judge their skills, but that is not very probable. We think about this possibility only because we will probably have to divide the players into two or more separate groups, each containing up to 5 or 6 players for the races. We believe that 5 or 6 human players at once is the maximum we can risk for the game to still be playable at a reasonable level. If there will be no qualification races, then the groups will probably be made up just randomly or we might settle an arrangement. A number of around 20 players in total should be the ceiling - we ain't probably ready for something even bigger. 2. Every player should give us their contact information for synchronization purposes. Either me or my friend (actually, some of you could still remember Jiri Fenz from the Mah 1 tournaments) should host the games, as we have tried and confirmed that both of us are capable of providing a fast, stable and reliable enough server for most connection conditions. No more than two servers running at once should ever be required during this tournament. Everyone is most sincerely welcome to join us, no matter how you consider yourself, this event is intended for everyone just to have a nice and funny competition. In fact, this whole thing started only because we were curious to witness how other topspeeders from all over the world drive. :-) It is strongly advised though that you do not have an ordinary telephone modem connection (slow game performance, could lead to inaccurate race results or connection failures on your part) and that you have enough free time to be able to keep up with the rest of us for up to three afternoons. If a player just does not respond in time for the next phase of the tournament to begin, he will have bad luck and will be eliminated from the tournament, although we will try to wait for a few hours if necessary to equalize time zone differences to some extend. 3. When a comunication platform with each player is established, a comfortable time frame is set for the first race and the grouping of players is decided, we shall randomly choose two of the official race tracks for the first round of the tournament. There are currently 11 race tracks in the game, 3 of them being introduced in the new version (America, Austria, Belgium, England, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Spain, the Netherlands). We believe that this principle is the fairest possibility
Re: [Audyssey] game with lots of things to kill
Lots of stuff. :-) Shades of Doom from www.gmagames.com, they also have GMA Tank Commander, Lone Wolf and Trek 2000 but these are rather simulation games, so you will be killing as well but it's much harder to learn to play these games and killing is not the main concept here. Then you could play some space invaders like arcade stuff: Troopanum 2 from www.bscgames.com, Alien OUtback, should be up at www.draconisentertainment.com. Audioquake is quite complex to learn for someone who has no experience with games of this kind but can be downloaded from http://agrip.org.uk, along with links to some mods (sounds that make it look like an all new game). There ought to be some ohter first person shooters out there, but they ain't either as high-quality and nice-sounding audiogames like I am used to, or they just didn't occur to me off the top of my head. These were the few games that I like the best and play the most often. Hope this helps. Dark, I can create that mission for you. Do you want it timed? Also want Any minds? Where will you want to be placed on the map or do you care? You can drop me a message including all the details you can about what you want in the mission in my inbox, but be shure the subject maches the email or I might over look it. On the other hand, I wish LW came with better sounds, so as soon as the soundpack is up, I'll grab it. --- I also rather like lone wolf and have no regrets of buying it, but I do wish I was a litle less pants at the game. I can only barely get passed mission five, the one with the aircraft carriers, and that only after loots of practice and failed attempts. Despite having all the missions from gma games saved, I really haven't played it much sinse I always get so destroyed. It'd be cool if someone who knows about the mission parza could create some more practice and tutorial missions, with stuff like how to hit a destroyer going at 30 nots, and a bit more of a chance to work out proper firing solutions for various angles of ships, not just 90, 45 and 180 degrees. I admit though, I haven't exactly played the game much after my abysmal attempts at the first few missions, so if there are in fact easier more practice style missions later on I might well have missed them. I hope it appears here eventually. :-) Now, however, this one will be much shorter. Hope it gets through. I was told about Night of the parasites, so I tried to download it from Audiogames. I made several attempts with MS IE7 but always got the common Windows access denied dialogue (make sure that the disc has not write protection on it and that it's not full) during the actual copying of the file itself to the desired location. Ok, so I thought it may be an odd error on the server side and I asked a friend to upload the file directly to my private ftp. He did, but the problem pertains, I am still unable to run the very file. Very odd, have never seen anything like this happen before, does anyone please have any idea as to why this could be happening? I will now roughly translate the dialogue I am receiving every time I run the file, no matter from which location (I tried renaming it and copying it to several different places): Windows doesn't have access to the specified path, device or file, or you do not have enough rights to run this file. So that's it. I would very much appreciate any possible aids on this. My friend seems to have no problems like this at all, but I very sincerely hope that someone of you gamers has also experienced this error and can offer a solution. Hi all. just looked at the mod, its described as full version, not sure what they mean by that but to me that means a mod which is a standalone thing. there is an installer which I am pulling down or rather waiting for servers. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] ran across a very random mod for half life 2
Hello Alex. I've actually been in contact with the developer of that Mod in the past, - there's a topic about it somewhere on audiogames.net with a link to a utube vid of someone playing it (though not doing too well). I wasn't able to try it myself being totally without a copy of halflife 2, but I do know someone visually impared who does. he said it was a fun play, but several factors also made it more complex, such as the fact that instead of walls to the playing area, you can just endlessly walk in one direction. Also, while it's a great idea and advert for audio games, the problem was the developer had to specifically create and place all of the sound objects and sources in the Mod, for the mod. Many objects in the actual halflife 2 game do not unfortunately have properties which could be modified to have them create sound, or have the player have tools such as a sonar. All navigation in the Mod is done by specifically placed sound objects, and according to my friend who tried the game (who also has played shades of doom), the spacing and audio navigation wasn't half as smooth as in shades. so, a fun game, and a great way to get people interested in audio games, but sadly not an accessible halflife 2, - though the developer did say he was interested in perhaps making more audio games, maybe something actually programmed by himself, so it's not all doom and gloom. Hmmm, killing. Well for blowing up stuff and explosions, something like judgement day from lworks is always good, gma tank commander to (though that one needs more stratogy). for something more up close and personal, I suggest shades, or maybe even night of parasite! Perhaps if we ask Phil nicely, he could create a chain sore murder game using the gma engine? That would be great for getting off rustration! - joking, or at least half joking! Beware the Grue! Re: [Audyssey] Lone wolf sound pack.
Thanks Casey, that's an incredibly kind offer. Perhaps something that plays a bit more like a cross betwene the first mission and a tutorial, with ships of various speeds passing at various points, and some handy messages popping up during the mission to give hints as to where would be a good targiting angle and placement. My problem is working out where I should put my sub to shoot a moving ship once I know it's course, sinse this seems to change hugely with the course and speed of the targit, so some hints and practice in this would be great. You could even give it some atmosphere and plot by having it be your qualification course for becoming a sub captain, or something similar. Btw, what happens about mission numbers? I have all the 75 missions from gma games, bringing my total up to 92, but I'd imagine people have created more, probably taking the total over the 99 mark. What happens then? Oh, and where are these extra missions? If david is not hosting them at Gma, might they be hosted elsewhere? The same goes for this tutorial mission if your kind enough to create it casey, sinse it should deffinately be available to everyone I think. Hi Alex, I think this mod also takes advantage of the seeing with sound program the VOIce, because someone did say they were able to troverse Half Life with that. That program does take a lot of learning though, though and he said in this version of the changelog for the program that OCR is supported exparimentally. [Audyssey] Anyone fancy a kick about?
Hi. I've just downloaded the demo of super football in order to write a game entry for audiogames.net. I did originally try the game back in 2006 during my big playthrough and investigation of audiogames, but decided not to buy it, sinse it seemed to boil down to a comparatively symple boppit style game, pluss I wasn't too keen on the synth comontator. Thanks to a new computer, I was able to try it again, and do a write up for audiogames.net, which should hopefully be informative for anyone confused about the game. Anyway, so now I've got three days super football demo time, and even if I'm not buying it, I might as well have a litle fun. Anyone fancy a ten minute friendly? Re: [Audyssey] Lone wolf sound pack.
Hi Dark, Well, do to limitations in Lonewolf itself it is not possible to add hints, tips, and tricks while playing the game. Though, some of your other suggestions are possible. I'd suggest listening to Raul's audio walkthrough on Lonewolf first to get an idea of how the game is play. The address is http://games.asmodian.net if I am not mistaken. dark wrote: Thanks Casey, that's an incredibly kind offer. [Audyssey] Lonewolf targeting.
Hi Dark, Well, keep in mind when firing you want to hit the enemy ship in the port or starboard side. Obviously, that offers a lot larger target than trying to go for a bow or stern shot. Though, bow and stern shots are possible once you get skilled at the game. Let us take mission 1 as an example. Don't move since the first cargo ship is going to litterally pass your bow in a minute or so. Just open your doors, when you view the cargo ship, press period follow by the number one. When the tone of the target gets very high pitched press f6 and drop one or two torpedoes into the sucker. Close the torpedo doors and wait for the cargo ship to sink. A destroyer will pass, but if the cargo ship hasn't sunk don't fire since it is still in your way. If you want to hit both very quickly I usually turn 15 degrees to port, bearing 345, and fire upon the first cargo ship so I can later change heading to 0 so I can kill the destroyer. Try that and see if that helps. Cheers. dark wrote: I get that much, but I'll be the first to admit my spacial logic isn't great, and more often than not I don't end up getting into position until the ship's past me. [Audyssey] Lonewolf enemy destroyers.
Hi Dark, Smile. Those destroyers are a bit tricky. Hint if you aren't skilled enough to hit them at full speed then your best tactic is to go down to say 60 feet, wait it out, and when they stop hunting you surface and blow the suckers away. dark wrote: the mission 2 destroyer is fairly easy, but the ones guarding the aircraft carriers in I believe mission 4 were a pest!
