2 gigs of ram should be plenty though. not even the most advanced sighted 3
d games make use of 4 yet, so I am pretty sure that a mere emulatur for an
old game system should be able to run smoothly with less than that.

Re: [Audyssey] philips sgc2910 game pad qquestion

2009-03-28 Thread shaun everiss
if its got a driver you should install it.
weird.
if you turn off error reporting and critical error reporting you should get if
anything an actual crash from the actual driver or you may be lucky and
everything will work fine.
if you get a crash from the actual driver then maybe its a bug in the driver.
if you have error reports on you get the stupid microsoft error which means
absolutely crap.
At 06:49 p.m. 28/03/2009, you wrote:
I tried to get an sgc2909 but they're discontinued according to the walmart
store here, so I got an sgc2910 which appears to be the same thing but
wireless, for 20 bucks flat. The vibrators on it are giving me problems. I
can't change the velocity of those motors from the controll pannel/game
controllers. It has a page in the properties dialogue that says to move the
left stick to get the vibrators to run, I can do that and I can change it to
100 percent velocity, up from 58 where it was by default, and hit apply, the
motors stay on continuously that way, that's how I want it. now I can hit ok,
then ok again to clcose that dialogue and I get an error about the application
not being able to find the memory referenced at 0x you get the point. It's a
rundll32 error. One time It didn't stopp with rundll32 and went through a
don't send error for good measure, and finished off with a drwatson error,
after which I exhasporatedly just rebooted my comp, which didn't help much.
When I go
back there again, the velocity for the vibrators are back to 58, not 100. When
I open topspeed the vibrator moves more slowly than I remember the one for my
recoil pad going, it just barely seems to move, and seems to perform
iratically, sometimes the vibrators get going and sometimes they just click and
don't go anywhere. You know how topspeed makes the vibrators go, it kicks them
on and off really quick, well if thhe controller is set at 58 percent, it does
that by itself, so if you have thhe game kicking the vibrators on and off, plus
the controller trying to do the same thing, sometimes it vibrates and sometimes
it doesn't. If that makes sence. When i close topspeed I get another rundll32
error. On my sony vaio laptop I get no error but the vibrator velocity won't
save there either. It's all sluggish on topspeed and when I go back to the
properties dialogue again for the controller it is again 58 percent. I have
downloaded drivers from the philips website, probalby the same
thing that was on the minny disk. Nothing seems to help. Anyone got any ideas?
Are there similaar problems with the sgc2909? I'm having this problem on two
differentg computers, but only one of those two is printing error messages, the
other one just isn't letting me change settings.

Hope yall can handle the typos, tis late and I think I'm a little too lazy to
fix them all atm.

[Audyssey] FINALLY!!!!

thanks to some of you I am finally getting it. it would have been
fairly simple if in the begining someone had written and said you
absolutely need direct x and the microsoft framwork and explained
what they were Then told me where I might locate them. I have a
dialup connection so I am on my third night of downloading the
microsoft framwork because it is so huge and I don't want to tie up
my phone for 35 hours in a row. As far as direct x I'll get that in
one night but the confusion could have all been avoided had someone
given me simple specific information and dirrections for what I
needed. I finally got enough pointers and the correct direction, so
thanks to those who helped. Well it is almost done now and after this
I should be ready to try some games, maybe the ones I downloaded .

Thanks for your assistance

Understand there is lots of room for error here since you aren't
experienced with audio games, installing them, etc and we need details,
 details, details.
Some other things to think about. When was the last time you upgraded
Windows? Do you have the latest DirectX components? Does your computer
meet all requirements listed for the game or games?
Point I am getting at there could be some very common computer issues
here that could be giving you problems such as not having a new enough
DirectX release, maybe your Windows version is out of date and requires
patches from Microsoft to be downloaded/installed, etc. Some, probably,
most of us apply DirectX upgrades, Windows updates, etc frequently so
usually don't run into issues with these games.

Re: [Audyssey] can anyone recommend good ps1 or ps2 emulators?

2009-03-28 Thread Constantine
But the problem comes when it has to emulate it. Emulating a system is no
easy task. Emulating the play station 2 takes way more cpu power than the
regular system itself - double, or tripple, the power, to actually emulate
the thing.

The ps3 will require a quad core computer, most likely.

Hi tony.

Not all games need the net framework, and many require different
versions of direct X (though if you get the latest one you'll be fine).

Any given game should tell you what you need on your pc to try it.

Many games can for example be run without the net framework, I know
this sinse for a while I couldn't get earlier versions of net framework to
run on my pc so was restricted in my selection of games.

I suggest you give some of them a try, particularly those by Bsc, Gma,
lworks, Blind adrenaline and Draconis.

Re: [Audyssey] FINALLY!!!!

As I said Tony, try Jim Kitchin's games found at http://www.kitchensinc.net/

Download the winkit file first and install it. This will create an
environment for running Jim's games, pluss install various components.

Jim's games range from self-voicing versions of classic games like monopoly,
to sports games, quizzes arcade action and racing games.

they also have the advantage of being A, free, and B, quite small in size,
so won't take too long for you to download on your dile up connection.

while your waiting, you could also try some brouser based games or gamebooks
on the internet, which may be played directly in internet explorer, firefox
or whatever web brouser your using, just using your screen reader.

I'd particularly recommend sryth, www.sryth.commm, the fighting fantasy
project, http://www.ffproject.com/ and age of fable
http://www.apolitical.info/webgame/index.php?mode=0

You can also find many online games which require no downloads by checking
the database at www.audiogames.net, just look for gamebooks, and games
listed as on the online platform.

Re: [Audyssey] I give!!!!

2009-03-28 Thread Shadow Dragon
Most games give system requirements, and installation instructions, and a
lot is covered on just about every audiogames page thanks in part to dark,
richard and a few others. Had you just taken the time to explore the
audiogames website and read some game documentation instead of trying things
for about 2 seconds, giving up and acting like a victim like you're doing
now, you probably would have been in business long ago. I can understand
that not everyone is a computer jenius, and odds are I don't have too many
friends here due in part to a fiasco on my part a while back, but I don't
like to see others blamed for one person's falts. So take it easy, quit
playing the role of a victim and you'll get a lot farther in what you try to
do. Appologies to the mods for borderline flaming.

Having said that there are a lot of online games and offline text games such
as world of legends that can be played without framework and other such
things, as well as very basic games like tournament and probably a few
others. Usually the truly good ones have some requirements attached to them
though.

[Audyssey] The sega website?

2009-03-28 Thread Darren Harris
Hi,

I by accident deleted that website where you can download and play sega
games. The one that is run by sega itself. Could someone please send me
the link again? Off list if necessary.

Many thanks.

Re: [Audyssey] FINALLY!!!!

2009-03-28 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Anthony,
Yeah, those are two very important updates to have. Just for your
information I am in the process of updating my web site and one of the
updates I will be putting on the site is DirectX (March 2009) which was
released last week. So if you haven't downloaded DirectX wait until I
let everyone know when the updated release is up on site or grab it
direct from Microsoft.

when you by an item that needs assembly you hope the
instructions/directions are in some foreign language you have to
guess at, or maybe have no directions at all so that you can guess
how to assemble the item.(snicker) If I wanted to play with a puzzle

asking for help (makes sense to me). I have a masters degree in
counseling and don't really need advice about victimization . I
wonder besides being a grate game player which I think you must
probably be would you mind telling me just exactly what level of
education or psychological degree you hold to place labels like

2009-03-28 Thread Anthony Vitale

Thanks Dark,
I already have and play Jim's games I have a personal relationship
with Jim. What I am looking for are like the scavanger or adventure games .

Thanks Tony

At 12:19 PM 3/28/2009, you wrote:

As I said Tony, try Jim Kitchin's games found at http://www.kitchensinc.net/

Download the winkit file first and install it. This will create an
environment for running Jim's games, pluss install various components.

Jim's games range from self-voicing versions of classic games like
monopoly, to sports games, quizzes arcade action and racing games.

they also have the advantage of being A, free, and B, quite small in
size, so won't take too long for you to download on your dile up connection.

while your waiting, you could also try some brouser based games or
gamebooks on the internet, which may be played directly in internet
explorer, firefox or whatever web brouser your using, just using
your screen reader.

I'd particularly recommend sryth, www.sryth.commm, the fighting
fantasy project, http://www.ffproject.com/ and age of fable
http://www.apolitical.info/webgame/index.php?mode=0

You can also find many online games which require no downloads by
checking the database at www.audiogames.net, just look for
gamebooks, and games listed as on the online platform.

2009-03-28 Thread Charles Rivard
I find this very strange in a way, but installation instructions are
generally found in the user's manual that comes with the games you download.
The reason I find this strange is this: In order to read the user's manual,
you have to install the game. Now, if you have already installed it, do you
need to know how? The manual is found in the folder into which the game was
installed. I think that, in the case of a CD from which you install the
game, the user's manual should be a separate file that you can read before
installation. If you download a game from a site, the user's manual should
be available on that site to get you started correctly. JMO

Re: [Audyssey] FINALLY!!!!

2009-03-28 Thread Shadow Dragon
I'm far from an expert on the subject, so you'll probably want to wait for
tom or another dev's opinion, but unless they did some serious overhauling
of the libraries and such, which doesn't usually happen from my experience
unless they change version numbers, it probably shouldn't. HTH, but probably
not *grins*.

Hi Anthony,
Yeah, those are two very important updates to have. Just for your
information I am in the process of updating my web site and one of the
updates I will be putting on the site is DirectX (March 2009) which was
released last week. So if you haven't downloaded DirectX wait until I let
everyone know when the updated release is up on site or grab it direct
from Microsoft.

Well a very good day to you to Mr. Shadow Dragon,
Your note demonstrates a lot of arrogance for someone who uses an
alias instead of their own name to represent themselves. I suppose
when you by an item that needs assembly you hope the
instructions/directions are in some foreign language you have to
guess at, or maybe have no directions at all so that you can guess
how to assemble the item.(snicker) If I wanted to play with a
puzzle instead of following instructions I would have done that
instead of asking for help (makes sense to me). I have a masters
degree in counseling and don't really need advice about
victimization . I wonder besides being a grate game player which
I think you must probably be would you mind telling me just
exactly what level of education or psychological degree you hold to
place labels like victim on people you don't even know. You really
aught to look up the work arrogant and see if your picture is there
next to it in the dictionary.
Sorry you had to write that dumb note to me I would rather
communicate with nice people

Your friend Tony
ps don't forget to let me know your level of education not just
your brillance in game playing!

seconds, giving up and acting like a victim like you're doing now,
you probably would have been in business long ago. I can
understand that not everyone is a computer jenius, and odds are I
don't have too many friends here due in part to a fiasco on my
part a while back, but I don't like to see others blamed for one

and you'll get a lot farther in what you try to do. Appologies to
the mods for borderline flaming.

Having said that there are a lot of online games and offline text
games such as world of legends that can be played without

tournament and probably a few others. Usually the truly good ones
have some requirements attached to them though.

Any given game should tell you what you need on your pc to try it.

Many games can for example be run without the net framework,
I know this sinse for a while I couldn't get earlier versions of net

I suggest you give some of them a try, particularly those by Bsc, Gma,

hmm this update to directx has the latest xna libs so issues with the entombed
libs crashing directx games untill they are reinstalled will not work.
in fact xna was faster on my system after the upgrade.
As long as your dotnet family and 3.5 service packs are updated and you have
the directx security update installed that is.
if not then its best to install all those first then uninstall and reinstall
the xna 3.0 libs then upgrade directx.
However it should work.

Yeah, those are two very important updates to have. Just for your information
I am in the process of updating my web site and one of the updates I will be
putting on the site is DirectX (March 2009) which was released last week. So
if you haven't downloaded DirectX wait until I let everyone know when the
updated release is up on site or grab it direct from Microsoft.

Hi tony.

If your looking for adventure type games, then you might definitely want to
check out the catagories on audiogames.net for gamebooks, as well as
the sites I mentioned such as Sryth.

For other games once you get direct X installed (which shouldn't be too much
of a problem at all), I can suggest trying Shades of Doom from
Gmahttp://www.gmagames.com/ (an action/exploration shooter title), and
Sarah from pcs. http://www.pcsgames.net/

I can also strongly recommend smugglers 3 and 4 from Nielsbaur games.
http://www.nielsbauergames.com/index.html These are scifi trading and
adventure stratogy games, --- which, though not intended to be accessible,
have proved extra compatible with screen readers, and the creater of
the games has also included compatibility features when he found out the
games worked.

I hope you enjoy them. Feel free to come back if you have any questions.

Jim's games range from self-voicing versions of classic games like
monopoly, to sports games, quizzes arcade action and racing games.

they also have the advantage of being A, free, and B, quite small in size,
so won't take too long for you to download on your dile up connection.

while your waiting, you could also try some brouser based games or
gamebooks on the internet, which may be played directly in internet

I'd particularly recommend sryth, www.sryth.commm, the fighting fantasy
project, http://www.ffproject.com/ and age of fable
http://www.apolitical.info/webgame/index.php?mode=0

You can also find many online games which require no downloads by checking
the database at www.audiogames.net, just look for gamebooks, and
games listed as on the online platform.

Re: [Audyssey] I give!!!!

I'm not officially a mod (well not on this list anyway),

but might I suggest that everyone calm down here.

Understanding and downloading requirements for games can be a rather
daunting task when new to the hole business, I certainly had issues
myself, and I imagine a dile up connection just inflates the situation,
I can't think of anything more frustrating thajn spending hours downloading
a game only for it not to work.

I myself have asked for assistance on tech matters on many occasions,
and surely that's one of the main purposes of lists like this one.

On the other hand however, when asking a list of people dedicated to a
specialist interest such as audiogames for advice, it might be a better idea
to phrase things in the form of questions, than diatribes against
audiogames in general, however frustrated a person might be with things
which don't appear to work.

Might I now suggest that everyone just relaxes, and leaves such details as
who is or is not a victim, and educational level out of the debate!

Re: [Audyssey] MOTA Mouse Support

2009-03-28 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Phil,
Yeah, but the only problem with that method is it is way too easy to
jump on accident. You might be pushing the mouse foward to climb a rope
and if you accidently move left or right suddenly you will jump off of
the rope. The mouse handling in such a case is tricky and a bit
complicated. Assuming I do release Beta 4 with mouse support enabled I'd
like to make its functionality as simple and straight foward as possible.

After some trial and error this would make jumping more intuitive with
 the mouse.

I meant to stay out of this from here on in, but I just wanted to point out
that pretty much every audiogame has system requirements, and usually links
to what you need, aka direct x, frameworks, etc, right on the download page,
or if not on the download page on the games listing in their product catalog
or something similar. From there, installing is pretty simple what with the
windows installer and such that we have now, and winzip. Does take a little
looking around before you download, and generally once you've got the
requirements for one game, you've got the requirements for a bunch more,
especially if you pick a popular one. Anyway, I'm saying nothing more on
this subject.

I find this very strange in a way, but installation instructions are
generally found in the user's manual that comes with the games you
download. The reason I find this strange is this: In order to read the
user's manual, you have to install the game. Now, if you have already
installed it, do you need to know how? The manual is found in the folder
into which the game was installed. I think that, in the case of a CD from
which you install the game, the user's manual should be a separate file
that you can read before installation. If you download a game from a
site, the user's manual should be available on that site to get you
started correctly. JMO

Hey Tony,
Actually, the .NET Framework is only required for newer games such as
Rail Racer, Mysteries of the Ancients, 3D Velocity, and some other games
built using the Microsoft .NET platform. You will find many older games
by GMA, Jim Kitchen, BSC, and others are written in Visual Basic 6 and
can be installed and run on XP without any additional components to be

Hope this helps.

Hi Tony,
I'm not Dark but I can give you some ideas of games to try out. I have
no idea if these are of any interest to you, but installing these games
should be easy since they should install and run without requiring any
upgrades.
Perhaps my favorite games are developed by GMA Games. Some games are
free, some are commercial, but I've never had any problems with their
titles. They make free games such as Solitare, Mine Buster, and some
commercial action games such as Shades of Doom, Tank Commander, and
Lonewolf. There web site is

http://www.gmagames.com
Another game company I like is BSC Games. They make games such as Pipe,
Troopenum, and Hunter. Their web site is

http://www.bscgames.com
Finally, there are some games that were produced by DanZ Games. Dan Z is
out of business, but you can get the files as well as the game patches
from my web site

http://www.usagamesinteractive.com/games.php
and I think you might like these games. Chainlink and Super Deecout can
get quite adictive.

Re: [Audyssey] I give!!!!

2009-03-28 Thread Thomas Ward

Hello Shadow Dragon,
While I certainly understand your position, your frustration, etc I
think it is better in the long run if we try to help Anthony rather than
attacking him.
In my conversations with Anthony on and off list I discovered we are
dealing with someone who isn't a very skilled computer user to begin
with. Just a few days ago Anthony had a problem selecting items using
the combo box on the audiogames.net web site. After talking with him off
list I discovered he wasn't aware he needed to press enter on the combo
box to get Window Eyes to disable MSAA/forms mode so he can use the
combo box on a web page. To some that sounds like a very stupid mistake,
some might think of Anthony as an idiot, but he simply has not had the
same level of training that some of us had. Therefore we have to walk
him through this not assuming anything, taking anything for granted, and
when giving instructions give him detailed instructions to him as a
totally new user to the computer.
Let's put it this way. If you knew someone recently whent blind, gave
him/her a new computer with a screen reader on it, would you expect him
or her to know how to use the screen reader, browse the web, install
games, whatever the first day? Probably not. I know I certainly didn't
learn all I know over night. I did however work hard to learn all I
could about computers, and years later I am very skilled at using them.

Hi Charles,
No. Most of the libraries such as DirectInput, DirectSound, etc are the

I find this very strange in a way, but installation instructions
are generally found in the user's manual that comes with the games
you download. The reason I find this strange is this: In order to
read the user's manual, you have to install the game. Now, if you
have already installed it, do you need to know how? The manual is
found in the folder into which the game was installed. I think
that, in the case of a CD from which you install the game, the
user's manual should be a separate file that you can read before
installation. If you download a game from a site, the user's
manual should be available on that site to get you started correctly. JMO

Not all games need the net framework, and many require
different versions of direct X (though if you get the latest one
you'll be fine).

Any given game should tell you what you need on your pc to try it.

Many games can for example be run without the net framework,
I know this sinse for a while I couldn't get earlier versions of
net framework to run on my pc so was restricted in my selection of games.

I suggest you give some of them a try, particularly those by Bsc,

[Audyssey] Training and tutorials was: I give!!!!

2009-03-28 Thread dark

Hi Tom.

Interested to read what you said about training sinse to be perfectly
honest I never had any, I just worked things out as different things
involving computers came up which I wanted to do.

It started with brousing a Cd rom for the DD 2nd edd rules when I was
finishing secondary school, sinse up until that point I'd only ever
used ms word and my documents.

Then, when I got to uni, I started on outlook express and using the
net, and I oh a lot of debt to the Hal version 5.1 manual for letting
me know about basic concepts like list boxes, buttons, page refresh etc.

In my second year in 2003, I discovered legend of the green dragon and a
couple of other online games, as well as using winamp to play various
formats of music and in my third year (in 2004), I discovered interactive
fiction and mucked about downloading, installing and playing those.

It wasn't really until 2006 that I started on audiogames, which also got me
into the habbit of installing programs and components and such, not to
mention finding out the background information about said programs by asking
on forums, reading on the net, and having chats with some of my computer
science studdying friends.

the point of all this, is I wonder if it would be worth having a basic
tutorial on audiogames.net, --- or another site, detailing some of the
essentials of computer knolidge necessary to play audiogames, to answer the
qu3estions of people like Antony, and indeed myself three years ago.

just a thought.

Well a very good day to you to Mr. Shadow Dragon,
Your note demonstrates a lot of arrogance for someone who uses an
alias instead of their own name to represent themselves. I
suppose when you by an item that needs assembly you hope the
instructions/directions are in some foreign language you have to
guess at, or maybe have no directions at all so that you can

Hi Tony,
I'm not Dark but I can give you some ideas of games to try out. I have
no idea if these are of any interest to you, but installing these games
should be easy since they should install and run without requiring any
upgrades.
Perhaps my favorite games are developed by GMA Games. Some games are
free, some are commercial, but I've never had any problems with their
titles. They make free games such as Solitare, Mine Buster, and some
commercial action games such as Shades of Doom, Tank Commander, and
Lonewolf. There web site is
http://www.gmagames.com
Another game company I like is BSC Games. They make games such as Pipe,
Troopenum, and Hunter. Their web site is
http://www.bscgames.com
Finally, there are some games that were produced by DanZ Games. Dan Z is
out of business, but you can get the files as well as the game patches
from my web site
http://www.usagamesinteractive.com/games.php
and I think you might like these games. Chainlink and Super Deecout can
get quite adictive.

[Audyssey] Vip gameszone?

2009-03-28 Thread dark
Does anyone know what happened to Vip gameszone?

Their obviously stil around sinse their stil selling games, and indeed
last year they upgraded all of their games to run under vista, but it seems
ages sinse we've heard any release information from them, -- or seenany game
content updates.

This imho is a shame, sinse Lords of the galaxy has some of the best sounds
I've heard in an audiogamee, and if some of the game balancing issues like
the exchange cash option and using space trucks to transport anywhere were
removed, or at least tweaked, it has the potential to be a really
interesting multiplayer game.

Ditto with Galaxy ranger, though in the case of that game, I'd just like
to see some improvements, such as actual features on the map, and maybe some
different units or the ability to build extra bases.

While I know we've got Sound Rts for serious stratogy, I stil do like the
stratogy/action mix of galaxy ranger, and would love to see some upgrades to
the game.

Beware the Grue!

Hi Phil,
Yeah, but the only problem with that method is it is way too easy to
jump on accident. You might be pushing the mouse foward to climb a rope
and if you accidently move left or right suddenly you will jump off of
the rope. The mouse handling in such a case is tricky and a bit

Hi.
You could probably just use, what's his name, Michael Fare, though it might be
spelled Fair, or some other way, personal power thingy.

  Beware the Grue!

  Dark.
