 Hi Damien,

Yeah, I actually do see your point. It is for that very reason,
interesting enough, why I had never put up all of the PB Games, etc. I
personally feel something like Snowball War is simply not worth
hosting, but I've been asked time and time again to host it for one
reason or another so I put it up. However, I have a disclaimer on my
website that USA Games does not support those games in any way, shape,
or form. If people ask their questions will go unanswered simply
because I don't really see any need to keep some games like Snowball
War around. If you want it then use it at your own risk. So far no one
has really asked for help on any of the games I host so I don't have
an issue with hosting them. However, if I was getting flamed,
bombarded with questions, etc like you are with the abandoned games
then they'd be taken off my website faster than you can say pronto
 Tonto.

One thing you can be assured of I'm not going to cry over Danger City,
Self-Destruct, etc because the games certainly are not worth it.
Jason, I think it was who ran XL Studios, was not a very skilled
programmer to be frank about it. I remember back when we still had the
ag-dev wiki and mailing list Jason released the source for a couple
of his games as tutorials, and it was terrible. I suppose I'm a bit
bias since I was trained professionally, therefore I try to program
using professional standards, but all the same I didn't think it was
tutorial quality. I felt that for beginners it would teach them some
extremely bad habits, and do to Jason's inexperience I could see
mistakes he would be passing on to the next generation developer. So I
understand exactly why you don't want to simply upgrade the code, and
would have to rewrite it from scratch.

In fact, the only game on your list of games I might consider updating
would be the Savage Gambit. I think if it was rewritten, given some
better keyboard asignments, etc it could be a decent game. However, it
is pretty difficult to play in its current state.

 Cheers!

Hi Mich,

My personal recommendation right now is the Logitech F510. That's
probably the best USB controller on the market for the $25 to $50
price range. I guess it all depends on how much you are willing to
spend. Dark says the X-Arcade sticks are good, but those are in the
$120 price range. So I guess we kind of need to know more what you are
looking for in terms of buttons, number of sticks, POV hats, price
range, etc.

[Audyssey] Wrestling Game Updates/Decisions

2011-04-18 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi everyone,

Some of you may be happy to know I've reached some decisions regarding
the wrestling game I plan to make. I've reviewed all of the messages
on the subject and have carefully considered all of the suggestions,
ideas, and comments put forth on the subject. As this is to be an open
source project and something we will all enjoy I've decided to go
ahead and implament many of your suggestions and ideas as follows.

First, there was quite a bit of debate on what wrestlers should be
added, weather they belong in this game, etc. I've decided that I'm
going to go ahead and take the all stars type approach which would
have a full roster of old favorites like Hulk Hogan, Junkyard Dog, and
Andre the Giant as well as new top stars like the Miz, Rae Mystereo,
Edge, and John Sena, etc. Given the fact that this is an open source
project, a community project in a sense, it is only fair to include as
many stars as possible and let the user, you, decide how to play the
game.

For example, since I'm a big fan of the older stars like Hulk Hogan I
might create a card of only old wrestlers like Hulk Hogan vs King Kong
Bundy, Junkyard Dog vs Randy Savage, Tito Santana vs Greg the Hammer
Valentine, and so on. Someone who is more familiar with the 90's stars
might want to create a card with Stone Cold Steve Auston, the Rock,
Owen Hart, Sean Michaels, etc. Then, the complete fantasy gamer might
want to create fantasy matches like Andre the Giant vs Big Show or
formar women's champion, Rockin' Robin, vs current women's champion,
Eve Torrez. In other words customize and play the game however you
like.

You might ask why I changed my mind. Well, as I said I saved most of
the messages on this topic before we lost the thread to other
subjects, and Phil's arguments were very convincing. Phil pointed out
that when playing a game like Baseball most people weren't too
concerned about sticking strictly to baseball cannon, and chose to
play the game from a fantasy baseball point of view rather than a
strictly purest point of view. It was his belief that the same sort of
thing would happen to my wrestling game. People would not like it as
well if I chose to use only certain wrestlers I personally liked, but
left out newer wrestlers that maybe someone else liked better. He has
a good point.

Fact of the matter is I now think I was letting my feelings about a
purest game effect my decision making process in this regard. Yes, it
is possible to do both, and with a little bit more effort on my part I
can let the end user pick and choose what wrestlers they wish to use.
It doesn't have to be as one-sided as I think I lead everyone to
believe. I simply have to let you choose the wrestlers you want to
play from the main roster like Piledriver and Wrestling League Manager
does and you can play the game the way you like, and I canplay the
game the way I like. That's fair for everyone.

Second, there was a little bit of discussion on main events. Since I
am no longer sticking to any specific era, time, or place it has freed
me up to think about these other issues more clearly. In short, I
think I will eventually add all the Pay Per View main events such as
Summer Slam, Wrestlemania, Backlash, Night of Champions, Surviver
Series, Royal Rumble, etc which will be a huge improvement over
Piledriver as you can only enter those events if and when you become a
top tear wrestler. If your wrestlers standings are low you will have
to bring up your standings before he or she enters a main event
calaber match. This will make the game more like Jim's NFL were you
have to win several matches before even entering the main event
matches or get your first title shot. In otherwords a career/season
mode for wrestlers.

Third, there was quite a bit of discussion about user interface
elements. Well, I've decided for the time being to start with a
text-based game. One reason for that is I've been writing some text
games like USA Blackjack which appears to be fairly accessible with
current versions of Jaws, Window-Eyes, and NVDA. My wrestling game
should be as equally accessible provided you have a decent up to date
screen reader. If your screen reader has issues with the command
prompt Window that's unfortunate but I've got to think of what works
for most people here. Plus I've tested USA Blackjack with Speakup for
Linux, and the game is fairly accessible on Linux as well. So it is my
feeling that text is the most accessible option for all involved.

Another big up for using text is braille support. I know this often
doesn't get mentioned much, but deaf-blind gamers really don't get a
lot of games that targets their special needs. Over the last few years
the Audyssey list mainly talks about audio only games, I.E. games full
of sound and speech, but completely leaves out a community of
potential gamers who can't hear or have difficulty hearing the games.
By making it text and with a screen reader like Jaws, Window-Eyes,
orca, BrailleTTY, etc we can create a

Hi Mich,

Ah, well, I didn't know you haven't played the Windows 7 card games,
but now I know. Smile.

In either case I know what you mean about sounds. Of course, my
biggest complaint with the RS Games is you have to be online when
playing. Its great they have an accessible Linux client, but if you
are traveling somewhere and have your laptop with you its kind of hard
to get online and play. That's also part of my motivation of writing a
simple text only game with no spectacular features like network play
as I have no need for it. I just need a game I can load and play
wherever and whenever without an internet connection and is compatible
with Linux which is the default OS on my laptop.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] more sim game questionss.

2011-04-18 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Imbar,

Unfortunately, no on all counts. The fact of the matter is such game
sims are difficult to create given the mount of math and physics
involved, and I don't think just anyone can create such a game unless
they have a higher education than high school. Some people have been
able to play Microsoft Flight Simulator, which doesn't have any combat
in it, but its not exactly 100% accessible either.

For instance,a lot of the guys like Ron who is in to MS Flight
Simulator uses programs like Its Your Plane to add a copilot to the
game that will take off, land, and do other things for you. You might
instruct the copilot to take the plane up to 20,000 feet and it will
do it for you. While this makes the game somewhat accessible, makes it
playable, it doesn't allow you personally to take manual control of
the plane and fly it yourself. So its not exactly 100% accessible if
you are looking for something you can fly on your own.

There are similar problems with Microsoft Train simulator. Some things
are accessible and some things aren't. Its not a full proof 100%
accessible sim. Sometimes it is the miner things like not being able
to keep an eye on the boiler pressure gauge as you are rrolling down
the track that turn out to be big problems for us since we will likely
blow up the boiler without keeping an eye on it etc.

I guess what might be nice to do some day is if someone would take the
source for the open source sims like Flight Gear and modify them with
accessibility support. I've got them installed on Linux and I know
they have Windows versions too. So I imagine if someone were to add
Sapi support and a few other updates they might be accessible. I'd
have to look and see what needs to be done.

Cheers!

Hi Johnny,

Yep, that has happened to me as well. Most often though after I had had very

The game instructions do say that you can have good or bad luck. Like I have
been crashed out by a drunk driver, or run into a rock slide, or the

can take the entire trip with no weigh stations or tickets and make near $2,000.

Re: [Audyssey] jim kitchen's nfl football

2011-04-18 Thread Jim Kitchen

Hi Hayden,

Yeah my NFL game needs an entire playbook of plays, but there is no way that I
am going to do that. I play the defense mostly by how many yards the offence
needs. Like goal line if they only need a couple of yards. But if it is third
down and they need more than a dozen yards the short pass defense will almost
always get it done. The blitz can work great or be a disaster.

It would be very cool if I could actually write a football game that was called
the way that Jim Donivan calls the Cleveland Browns games. You know how each
team is lined up, who is in motion etc. And of course with the entire playbook
thing. And then on another thread, I sure would love to be able to write a
Roller coaster Tycoon sim. But I do play the defense on a hunch with my
knowledge of the game of football.

Hi Thomas,

Yeah, I might be able to do it better now, but I delete the dat files once you
start the game so that one can not just quit the game if they are losing. I
think that I could now trap the alt f4 and send it to as if one pressed the

but either way the dat files would be rewritten the way that they are now with

Re: [Audyssey] Wrestling Game Updates/Decisions

Hi Shane,

Ummm...I'd rather you not answer these kinds of questions for me.
Especially, in light of the fact your answer was wrong. Please, don't
give people misleading information like this.

On the contrary the game will have both sounds and music. I am right
now compiling a huge library of official WWE entrance music for all or
most of the super stars I'll be using for 1.0 of the game. I'll
probably have a couple hundred MB of just entrance music compressed as
44100 KHZ 16-bit ogg files when I'm done.

In addition to the music I'm looking around for high quality wrestling
sound effects. Right now I'm confining my search to basic things like
croud ambience, bells, bodies hitting the matt, and things like that
but how many actual sounds depends on what I turn up. So it will have
sounds and music, but the user interface will be text.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] west front game

2011-04-18 Thread dark
Lots of interactive fiction though these tend to be far more based upon
puzles than roleplay and ganing skills and such, see
http://www.microheaven.com/IFGuide/IFGuide.pl?step=6c=0 for a great
beginners guide.

You can find accessible interpreters for such games on the audiogames.net
database, such as win frotz tts (which can output to sapi), standard
winfrotz, wintads, filfa and various others.

Rpg wise though specifically there aren't many unfortunately.

hi michael.

what do you mean a translator? if I remember rightly westfront was easier
enough to play by just reading the screen in the standard manner with your
screen readers' review curser.

If you mean playing in other languages besides english, I'm not sure.

I have westfront game and I know it's a interactive fiction game.
but I was wondering if thiere may be more I.F. game that don't require you
to have a translator to play the games. If somebody could give me a site
to find these kind of I.F. games that don't require the translator to play
that would be great.

Re: [Audyssey] Wrestling Game Updates/Decisions

2011-04-18 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Michael,

Yes, there most definitely is going to be sounds and music in the
game. What I'm basically thinking of doing is writing something like
the Smackdown vs Raw games produced by THQ, but instead of graphics
and things like that the game will use text instead. Right now I'm
looking at about 200 MB of music tracks in just entrance music alone.
I've got quite a collection of tracks ranging from 80's entrance
themes, 90's entrance themes, clear up to current themes for Edge,
Cena, the Miz, CM Punk, etc. So that part is covered.

As far as general sound effects I'm working on that. I have some
generic sounds like croud ambience, ringing bells, punches, kicks, etc
but not really enough to do the game justice yet. However, I'll be
adding new sounds as I find them, and if they are of a decent quality.

As for networking support I'm not planning on adding that to the game.
At least not right now. That's for a few reasons.

The first and main reason is I've never been much of a fan of
networked games. Even though I own some games that have network
ability like SoundRTS, Topspeed 2, Rail Racer, etc I've never found
network play all that apealing. Games with portable off line game play
are more my style. So, for me at least, there would be no personal
value in adding that feature right away.

Second, I travel a lot with my laptop. I like the idea of being able
to bring up a game and play it anywhere at any time. This means if
there is no internet connection a network game mode wouldn't benifit
me at all. I'd have to have a constant wireless access point somewhere
to make it worth my time in that case.

Finally, there is a technical reason I'm opting out of network game
play. While there are cross-platform network APIs like SDL Net it
isn't something that can be used without fully initializing SDL in the
process. If I'm going to do that I might as well go all the way and
use SDL for sound, music, input, networking, draw a game window, etc.
Besides being a lot of extra work we run into something of an
accessibility issue here.

As a result of SDL's cross-platform nature if you draw a window using
SDL's cross-platform renderer it is going to create a window that
screen readers like Jaws, Window-Eyes, NVDA, Orca, you name it won't
be able to see. So even if you print text to that window the screen
reader will see it as blank. It doesn't know what is there because the
window isn't tied to any native API like the Windows API, GTK+, Cocoa,
etc. That's fine if you are going to self-voice the game, but we
aren't. So that's why no network play from a technical standpoint.

Cheers!

Hi Tom.

I'm deffinately liking the sound of this, I've not tried usa blackjack
(mostly because I don't have the python bits needed and am unsure of
downloading components just to run blackjack), but I've never had issues
with turn based textual games and Hal.

One question. given that the game is now entirely text, and that your
including fantasy wrestling match ups, your including more wrestlers, is the
possibility of users creating their own wrestlers stil completely out?

or, at the very least, the user creating their own wrestler with customized
name, moves and genda to play in career mode up against hulk hogan, jake the
snake, ray mysterio etc.

This is a feature I'd rather like myself, sinse I like the idea of inventing
my own wrestlers for amusement value, or playing as someone personal to me
rather than a superstar I may or may not be interested in taking on the
character of, and obviously if your not including background music this
might be more possible.

On the other hand, if your writing some wrestler specific outside match
stories for interviews and the like, or perhaps some complex ai for various
wrestlers which would be harder for a user to replicate even by just
suggesting the wrestlers' stats and then altering the percentage chances of
what moves they do when, then fair enough.

Either way, it'll be fun.

Beware the grue!

What's the problem with the interpreter? really using something like
winfrotz is pretty much the same as playing westfront, though myself I like
westfront because it is more rpg than standard puzle based interactive
fiction.

There are some others kicking around, but not many sinse most people write
in an if language like zcode or tads, and thus you need the correct
interpreter to play them.

Re: [Audyssey] jim kitchen's nfl football

2011-04-18 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Jim,

I don't know the CFL rules either. From what Jason described it sounds
like they are pretty different. Even something simple as three plays
to make a first down instead of the usual 4 in American football could
drastically change the way the game was written. You'd have to write
the game in such a way that you could toggle this or that rule set
based on league etc. Sounds like a lot of work to me.

Even something like the NFL and college football would be pretty
different over all. Maybe not so much in the way the games are played,
but how you figure the season and instead of something like the Super
bowl you would have to add something like the Rose Bowl. Again not
easy to do considering you have more teams and season standings to
track and so on. It couldn't necessarily be a simple on/off switch.

I must confess Tom I got this wrong as well, sinse I assumed that as the

Hi Jim,

that wouldn't be such a bad idea. I think given the fact that alt+f4
is such a common keyboard command some of us use it without thinking
about using escape or something else first. So having alt+f4 forfit
the game the same as the escape key would be a nice safety net to
avoid bugs like runtime error 13 from happening. I've had to add a
similar keyboard trap in my own games to over ride the window closed
event to first properly shutdown DirectX, unload sounds, before
calling the WindowDestroy() function to actually kill the Window
properly.

Cheers!

pressed the escape key and thus you would need to return to the game or
forfeit the game, but either way the dat files would be rewritten the way

Re: [Audyssey] jim kitchen's nfl football

Hi Jim,

Smile. Yeah, there are a lot of plays missing. That's for sure.

I remember back in the 1980's I had this old football game for the
Apple II-E, and it would litterally give you a list of something like
23 plays for the offense alone. While that might give you probably
every play you can think of at the time I was maybe 6 or 7, not that
up on football plays etc, so it actually got to be too confusing
because you had to have an in depth understanding of what all those
plays were to effectively use them. Even then th e game would screw up
and intersept a screen pass treating it as a long pass and other weird
bugs. Lol!

On 4/18/11, Jim Kitchen j...@kitchensinc.net wrote:

Yeah my NFL game needs an entire playbook of plays, but there is no way that
I am going to do that. I play the defense mostly by how many yards the

it is third down and they need more than a dozen yards the short pass
defense will almost always get it done. The blitz can work great or be a
 disaster.

It would be very cool if I could actually write a football game that was
called the way that Jim Donivan calls the Cleveland Browns games. You know
how each team is lined up, who is in motion etc. And of course with the
entire playbook thing. And then on another thread, I sure would love to be
able to write a Roller coaster Tycoon sim. But I do play the defense on a
hunch with my knowledge of the game of football.

Re: [Audyssey] Wrestling Game Updates/Decisions

2011-04-18 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Dark,

Well, basically what I'm going to do is give someone the option to
either create a new wrestler, I.E. one that doesn't exist in the
database, or select a preexisting wrestler. I've decided to do this
for two reasons.

First, there are hundreds of wrestlers who have wrestled for the WWE
and other promotions. It would be litterally impossible for me to add
each and everyone of them to the game myself. So the best solution is
to take maybe the top 50 or top 100 stars, and if your wrestler isn't
listed add him or her yourself by going through the custom wrestler
wizard.

Second, I realise that not everyone is a huge wrestling buff. Some
people will, shall we say, just see this as another game to play.
Maybe they don't know who wrestler x is, and just want to make up
their own male or female star. Again, best solution here is to go to
the custome wrestler wizard.

Finally, I realise there will always be someone out there somewhere
who is just dying to add himself to the game as an actual WWE super
star. So be it. They'll just have to add themselves to the custom
database.

As far as music goes the game will definitely feature entrance theme
music for many if not all of the super stars. However, what I'll
likely do for custom wrestlers is create a CustomMale.ogg and a
Custom_Female.ogg file to stand in for entrance music. If you want
something else to be your theme music just overwrite said files with
an ogg file of your choice, and custom character creation is complete.

In fact, all of the music in the game can be replaced the same way.
For example, if someone wanted to play Trish Stratus but didn't like
her default music, Time to Rock and Roll, you could just drop in a
music file called Trish_Stratus.og and presto. The theme music is
changed. However, since Time to Rock and Roll is her actual entrance
theme that's naturally the default for that particular super star.

As for story modes etc that's on a very distant to do list. I've got a
lot more pressing things like building the game, balancing the game
mechanics, etc to worry about things like storylines and who is going
to kick someones butt for whatever at the moment.

Cheers!

One question. given that the game is now entirely text, and that your

possibility of users creating their own wrestlers stil completely out?

or, at the very least, the user creating their own wrestler with customized
name, moves and genda to play in career mode up against hulk hogan, jake the

This is a feature I'd rather like myself, sinse I like the idea of inventing
my own wrestlers for amusement value, or playing as someone personal to me
rather than a superstar I may or may not be interested in taking on the

 might be more possible.

 Either way, it'll be fun.

panning, virtual 3d positioning, and so on. It offers lots of
cross-platform DSP effects such as echo, low pass filters, pitch

number of file types such as wav, mp3, aif, flak, wma, and ogg out of

supported on Mac, Linux, and Windows that's the ideal compression to
use for large sound files like music and background ambience.

Basically, we've decided to begin using and licensing FMOD Ex for our
future titles for this reason. Streemway is nice, but its not
cross-platform. FMOD litterally has everything we need and supplies
top quality audio for every platform we can see developing games for
in the future. Plus saves us time writing a library that wraps OpenAL
with similar features to load and decompress mp3s, ogg, wma, etc. FMOD
has got it all already. No need to duplicate the work ourselves. So
the next generation G3D engine as well as our free open source
projects will be based on FMOD Ex for audio.

Subject: [Audyssey] Wrestling Game Updates/Decisions

Re: [Audyssey] interactive fiction games

2011-04-18 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi,

Right. There aren't that many interactive games that are stand alone.
Most require an interpreter. I'm personally glad for one very big
reason. In most cases interactive fiction games are completely cross
platform. Want to play an Adrift adventure download scare for Linux.
Want to play an interactive game written in Form use frotz for Linux
or one of a couple other Linux inform interpreters. There is even a
tads interpreter, but I can't think of the name off the top of my
head. They are all accessible and if I put my interactive fiction
library all together I'd say I have something like 150 cross-platform
games.

On 4/18/11, dark d...@xgam.org wrote:
What's the problem with the interpreter? really using something like
winfrotz is pretty much the same as playing westfront, though myself I like
westfront because it is more rpg than standard puzle based interactive

There are some others kicking around, but not many sinse most people write
in an if language like zcode or tads, and thus you need the correct
 interpreter to play them.

 Beware the grue!

Re: [Audyssey] more sim game questionss.

2011-04-18 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Imbar,

Well, I guess that would all depend on what type of application or
area of accessibility you are asking about. For instance, as far as
games goes there aren't that many accessible games just because nobody
has really developed that many accessible Linux games for us to play.
Although, there are plenty of free text adventures that are accessible
for Linux gamers which does help offset that issue slightly.

However, on the plus side Linux has some huge accessibility advantages
over Windows when it comes to software installation. If you were to
grab a distribution like Vinux you could completely install Linux from
scratch using speech and braille. You can't exactly do that with
Windows.

As far as general accessibility apps like Firefox are more or less the
same as Windows versions. There are a few things that could be
improved such as Orca doesn't have the cool little command to put
links in a list like Jaws and Window-Eyes does, but over all Firefox
is pretty much accessible otherwise.

Same goes for office. Open Office is fairly accessible with Orca for
the most part. At least for what I do. There are things they are
working on improving such as table support etc, but I don't really
notice a huge difference between screen reader accessibility for MS
Office 2007 on Windows and screen reader accessibility with Open
Office 3.3 for Linux.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] Wrestling Game Updates/Decisions

2011-04-18 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Shane,

Actually, the game will be more or less menu driven. You might be
given a list of general catagories of moves such as arial, brawling,
submission, technical, etc and then you would select the actual move
you want to attempt. For instance you might select brawling and then
select uppercut to deliver a nice uppercut to your aponents jaw. This
was the only practical way I could include all the possibilities in
terms of moves.

For example, submission holds. There are a lot of them and variants.
Something like the figure four leglock has three or four varients I
know of. One of Bret Harts favorites, the Sharpshooter, is basically a
reverse figure four leglock with a fansy name attached to it. There
are a couple of others as well, but can't think of there names off
hand.

Plus I've played games like Piledriver, and it misses a lot of moves.
I can think of several classic moves like the powerbomb or Fabulous
Moolah's favorite flying snapmare that don't even get a mention. I'd
like to fill in the gap and add a lot more wrestling moves like that
to give your wrestler several options and plays. Although, the flying
snapmare, popularized by Moolah, is more a dirty female wrestling
move as it involves grabbing the other woman by the hair and then
flipping her over your sholder. Ouch!

[Audyssey] Anyone tried Dragonball Z on psp?

2011-04-18 Thread Tom Randall
Hi all.

Well I am looking to expand my psp library and I saw that there are a couple
of the Dragonball Z games out for it. I've never played any of these myself
but I understand they are pretty playable on some other systems. So has
anyone tried them on the psp and if so how did you find them? If nobody has
tried them I may take a chance or I may just play it safe and get Soul
Calibur Broken Destiny for the psp, it'd be fun to be able to do some
hacking and slashing on the bus on my way home from work.

Game on.

Re: [Audyssey] Wrestling Game Updates/Decisions

2011-04-18 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Michael,

Well, given the fact that this will be an all stars type game I don't
think the destinction between the Raw, Smackdown, and Tough Enough
brands will matter that much here. Although, if you look up a
wrestlers bio in the game it will tell you if that wrestler currently
belongs to the Raw, Smackdown, or Legend brand. Legends of course
proceeded the split between Smackdown, Raw, and Tough Enough brands so
get their own brand or catagory here.

As for a dedicated ring announcer there currently isn't one. Not
unless someone is willing to come foward and offer there services for
that deuty. I'm certainly not going to try and get all the actual WWE
ring announcements by recording them as it would take me ages to
record, edit, not to mention even find all the ones I'd need. So it
would be better if someone with a good announcer type voice could do
that job.

As for Divas they definitely will be in the game. When you select your
season mode, select a super star, you can choose if you want to play
as a male or female star. Rookies are the male stars and the divas are
the female stars. My roster is currently being rewritten from scratch
right now so I can't say for certain who will make the final cut for
1.0, but you can be pretty sure the most famous stars from the male
and female devisions will most likely be on it. Guys like Steve
Auston, Hulk Hogan, Edge, Randy Savage, Jake the Snake Roberts, the
Miz, etc are definitely going to make the cut. As for the divas I
haven't figured out a final list but most of the current divas like
Eve Torres and Michelle MicCool as well as past champions like Trish
Stratus, Rockin' Robin, and Wendi Richter will definitely be there.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] Wrestling Game Updates/Decisions

2011-04-18 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Dark,

Well, keep in mind here when I say you can add wrestlers at the moment
my plans only allow you to add one custom wrestler. Its not like
Piledriver where you can add 50 or 100 new wrestlers to the game. So
in that light is it really that necessary to rename one file
Custom_Wrestler.ogg to something else like The_Rock.ogg?

And before anyone asks or flames me for only allowing one new wrestler
to the game at the moment its because of technical reasons. I was
thinking about writing this game from a single wrestlers point of
view. Basically, you select a wrestler, and you will be him or her
until you decide to start over. This will make it easier to write,
maintain, and debug.

My key concern with having an unlimited number of custom wrestlers is
it will be harder to debug, it will ad lots of extra work to create,
and of course they'll all have to use some bog standard A.I. since
they are an unknown talent as far as I'm concerned. I won't know what
moves, specials, etc you have in mind which leads to another issue.
That is if we want a completely custom wrestler than that means we
have to add the ability to have custom moves/specials not necessarily
included in the game. Plus as I've mentioned before I'm not happy with
just a handful of different generic bots. I want character specific
wrestling A.I. or it isn't worth writing or playing. That's the purest
in me talking again.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] Wrestling Game Updates/Decisions

2011-04-18 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Dark,

I don't remember saying that, but I might have said something about
SDL Mixer not being as good as Windows or Mac. That's certainly true,
and SDL Mixer is only a free cross-platform mixer though. That's the
difference. FMOD is a comercial library that costs any thing from $150
for a shareware license to $6,000 or more for a comercial
redistribution license. Depends on your needs, but they obviously have
a superior product for the price. So maybe you are refering to my
comments that the free, open source mixers aren't as good as DirectX,
FMOD, etc.

Cheers!

My guess here is since Jim doesn't use datatyping himself what he did

Same here I usually use goal line or end run at times at times I do use

Yeah my NFL game needs an entire playbook of plays, but there is no

yards. But if it is third down and they need more than a dozen yards
the short pass defense will almost always get it done. The blitz can
work great or be a disaster.

It would be very cool if I could actually write a football game that
was called the way that Jim Donivan calls the Cleveland Browns games.
You know how each team is lined up, who is in motion etc. And of
course with the entire playbook thing. And then on another thread, I
sure would love to be able to write a Roller coaster Tycoon sim. But
I do play the defense on a hunch with my knowledge of the game of
football.

[Audyssey] Any Night Football and World Series Baseball

2011-04-18 Thread jason
I think the game that had 23 plays for offense and lots of plays for
defense was the Any Night Football game, I am surprised that no one has
tried to convert that dos game to windows version even though it didn't
have many sounds at the time it was clear cut at that point time and it
was a good game even Jim Kitchen's dos football game was good for that
time in Dos. I am also surprised that World series baseball didn't go
to windows either I know there is stratomatic games out there however I
don't like playing games with flash, it's too bad that Stratomatic
games, couldn't makea client like RSGames and Quentancy where everyone
could play on a server and you would just have to download the client to
play them just like Quentancy playroom and RSGames.

Hi Kevin,

I have never gotten that error myself, but this seems to fix it for those
who do.

1. uninstall the game by running the uninfoot.bat file.
2. install the game again from my web site.
3. make sure to enter a valid name for your coach.
4. never use alt f4 to exit the game.

I do believe the alt f4 is what causes the error most often. The game does
not recreate the necessary dat files with the coach name etc and thus it
does not have the data to pass to the variable the next time the game is
played.

I hope that helps.

Ouch!

On 4/18/11, Shane Lowe shanel...@insightbb.com wrote:

I like all these ideas!
And trust me that something unuaasual for me.
I have one question though, How would you enter your moves?
Do you type them or cellect them.

Cheers!

going to be tag team title and women title division.

Re: [Audyssey] Old Titles Removed

2011-04-18 Thread Dakotah Rickard
Oh, I think that's a great compromise. MOTA and Danger City are really
quite different in many ways, though both are side scrollers and both
involve beating the crap out of your enemies. I see the points, by the
way, in your arguments. I think that your wish to keep ownership so
that you can point to the old titles as basis for new ones is valid,
but I have to be honest. If I write a side scrolling fight and shoot
game, I'll probably thank you guys, as side scroller developers, for
the inspiration to put together a game like that. I view that as
honesty, as I'm not ripping off you guys, only creditting you all for
brain juice. I say that you could probably do likewise, if you didn't
just make a new Danger City but took an idea like Gang Wars and
brought it to fruitful completion. If you did change the name, then
you could, reasonably, just drop Danger City into the public domain.
I also understand the annoyance of not having a developer to contact
about issues, but that really is what forums are for, community
support, that is. If you're working on a new title, inspired by an old
title, then you don't really need to keep ahold of the old one. Just
let it lie and caviot emptor, let the buyer beware, about the old one.
I look forward to the beat-'em-up you come up with, and even if you
don't public domain Danger City, I don't mind or begrudge it at all,
it's just food for thought.

Signed:
Dakotah Rickard

PS: I really can't wait to be an honest developer. I want to see the
perspective clearly from both sides, and I know I'm not completely
there yet. Still, one thing I'm glad I haven't seen much of at all in
this argument is the We're developers and you're not so you just
don't get it, thing I've seen sometimes in the past. I don't program
yet, but I'm in the midst of making several board games, which I hope
to program at some point, and I face the developers' vicious circle of
asking for suggestions and being overwhelmed or misdirected, and only
the truly mindless have never created anything in their lives, so I'm
glad I haven't seen any of that in this debate. You guys rock.

Re: [Audyssey] Wrestling Game Updates/Decisions

2011-04-18 Thread dark

Hi tom.

well if technically a single wrestler is easier that makes sense, and I
admit I'd like the idea of the career mode being from the perspective of a
wrstler I create.

However, there might be a compromise. For instance, instead of letting the
user create custom moves for their wrestler, let them choose only from the
number of moves already in game (if your creating so many wrestlers, this
should give lots of choice).

ditto for Ai if the ai is based on basic probabilities and stats, --- either
that or as I said one must fall did, create a number of ai styles someone
could choose for a custom wrestler, for instance if I remember my wwf
correctly, sergeant slaughter most often fought very aggressively and with
use of submission holds like the cammel clutch, where as someone like texus
tornado relied more on fast movement and agility, with lots of ground based
attack maneuvers like the irish whip and his own tornado move.

If a player wanted a custom wrestler who fought like sergeant slaughter,
they could select ai type aggressive submission, where as if they wanted a
fast wrestler like texus tornado they could select the ground based agile
style.

if this goes beyond technical considderations or what you'd like in the
game, fair enough, though i'm stil glad you'll be letting us create at least
our own main character as the case goes either way.

Beware the grue!

When will this game be out for download?
Looking forward to it.

navy, the tax office, the office of fair trade, the European commission on
dodgy computer game sales, the president of the united states, the head
magician in charge of the magic internet gremlins, the board of grue
control, the flying saucer people and (just for good measure), complaining
loudly about it on list!

so tom, I hope that game gets finished, with no pathetic excuses about
other things, such as nuclear war, a zombi invasion, attack by aliens
or the appocalypse getting in the way, lol!

I will expect my copy promptly! afterall there's an official release date

Re: [Audyssey] USA Blackjack

2011-04-18 Thread Charles Rivard
That sounds like about half volume. Heh heh heh. Actually, that sounds
like it'll work. While you're at it, can you add a feature that saves the
options? That's one small annoyance I have with some games that don't save
them. You have to set the volume every time you start the program. Thanks.

Hi Charles,

Not a problem. I have a couple different casino background ambiences,
and loads of card sounds to pick from. I think as for adjusting the
background ambience what I'll do is add a hot key like v which will
ask you to enter the volume and if you want it to play at 50% volume
you would type 50, press enter, and it would readjust it. How does
that sound?

However, if we absolutely have to use something like page up/page down
then I'm going to have to modify the game to use LibSDL and make it
self-voicing. That's not a bad idea, but that's just an example of how
a simple suggestion can magnify the work load to 10 times what it
needs to be just by adding something like a volume control.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] code factory

2011-04-18 Thread Bob Montowski

Here is what I was able to figureout with Private Detective School...
there are 3 important files..
a .CCD a .IMG and a .SUB file.
a Search on google told me these 3 files were created with..
Slysoft Clone CD program.
I downloaded the 21 day demo of the program from
www.slysoft.com
and installed it..
I then started the program and browsed to the folder with these 3 important
files.

I opened the .CCD file and told Clone CD to burn this image file.
a few minutes later it was done.
I uninstalled the Clone CD program.
I rebooted the system.
I inserted the Detective Cd and waitid for it to start.
it did not start.
I explored to the CD and clicke don the start.exe program.
'something installed'
it then asked me to reboot.
I then had a reboot and found some sort of protection program running in my
task bar.

I tried to start the detective game up again with no luck.
the game went to the internet and told me I did not have a legal copy of the
game.

My final ideas on this program?
I did my best to un-install everything I had just put in.
I took the CD I had burnt and put it into my shredder.
I will do a virus scan tonight before I go to bed to be sure I was not
wacked with some sneaky sort of virus.

This did not seem to me to be a great game.
too much work to get it up and too much grief after it was all done and said
with.

just my personal opinion here.

[Audyssey] tarzan questions to Philip bennfall

2011-04-18 Thread NIcol
Hi Philip
You said some time ago that you are planning a new tarzan game.
Are you planning to add a Jane character to the game?
IN the real tarzan movies, Jane is one of the main characters.
p.s that song that phil Collins sings:
you'll be in my heart.
Did he sang it for Jane in the tarzan movies?
Happy gaming.
