Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: CastBridge = integrate Chromecast players with LMS (squeeze2cast)
Hi, I am running LMS on an ARMv5 NAS (Synology DS214) which works fine in all other respects. However, I have tried several times to install Chromecast Bridge with the same error each time. I install the plugin, restart LMS and go to settings. An error is shown "Configuration file missing". Pressing Generate does not make any difference, and neither does it make any difference whether the plugin is running or not. Do you have a clue what the problem is? I have two Chromecast Audio devices which work fine when selected and used from the family's mobile devices. Thanks for any help. A pity this. I always used to browse the schedules for something to listen to. Now I have to do that on the phone app and then go to BPA's iPlayer Extra app to find the programme to play there. Let's just hope that continues working! I remember last time we nearly lost the BBC iPlayer plugin we all commented vociferously on a BBC tech blog and we made the powers that be aware of the situation. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] For the brave only: the Spotty Spotify implementation
Don't believe everything you read on Wikipedia! A "Compilation" album is a much broader term than the narrow definition here. Compilation is a process, not a thing, it is the act of compiling. The compilation of musical tracks is the act of gathering them together in one recording. The compilation of poems or short stories is the act of gathering them together in one book. A "best of" is "compiled" from an artists previous recordings. "Various artists" albums are also "compiled" from those artists' previous recordings, either to fit a genre, mood or other theme. A seamless change, currently using it with the official app and all working well. I notice that the conversion is to PCM rather than FLAC. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Spotify-connect-web
Just found this thread - yet again Mr Herger to the rescue! Currently have two Duet's streaming to amplifier/speaker setups in kitchen and living room. I am using my Squeezeboxes for: 1. Library of FLAC files from my Synology NAS (where LMS is installed) 2. BBC iPlayer Radio and 3. Spotify. As a Spotify "family" member I have 5 users here all with a lot invested in Spotify so I would be loathe to lose it completely when Libspotify goes. Everybody here is quite happy with the Michael's current implementation of the "official" LMS Spotify app combined with the Spotify protocol handler, so if librespot can replace the SPH bit seamlessly then I will be very happy. Not bothered about the Spotify Connect thing - and not sure what it adds over the official LMS system. My fall-back position when Libspotify goes is to put a Chromecast Audio dongle on a second input into each amplifier, just for Spotify, but that would require physically switching inputs. Neither amp has a remote so that would be less than ideal and would require the use of a phone app. This family still mainly use the two Controllers for initiating existing playlists and saved albums and it is usually a touch quicker, strangely, than finding the phone, swiping, entering a PIN code and initiating the app. Matt SQUEEZEBOXES: TWO SB DUETS (LIVING ROOM AND KITCHEN) AND A *'PICOREPLAYER' (HTTPS://SITES.GOOGLE.COM/SITE/PICOREPLAYER/HOME) Server:* Synology DS214 (2TB) NAS running LMS 7.9 *Network:* TP-Link Archer VR200 router, Draytek Vigor 130 VDSL modem, TP-Link access point *Livingroom:* Receiver, Linn LP12, Naim 72/Hi-cap/110/Headline amp, B CM2 speakers *Kitchen:* Receiver, Topping TP20 Mk2 Class T amp, B 686 speakers TheLastMan's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16021 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=105968 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

At home that sort of time to fix it could take several weeks to > find. There is no "Linux system" to manage! You write an image to an SD card, plug it into the rpi, plug the drive with your music on it into the rpi USB port, turn it on, wait a couple of minutes, open a web browser and the max2play configuration screen, tick a few boxes to download and install LMS and that's it! The rest is done using the LMS configuration / setup page. If you can manage the settings pages of LMS you will have no problem with Max2play. The whole point of the package is to screen you from any Linux nonsense. It is preconfigured with all the software you need to run LMS. It took me about 15 minutes to assemble the rpi (I am a bit fat fingured), 20 minutes or so to download and write the image to the SD card. Once the rpi was powered up and I was in the M2P browser I ticked a couple of boxes to download LMS and set it running. To be honest most of the time was spent waiting for stuff to download. The whole process took less than an hour. There are more options if you want to use the rpi as a player but for server only duties it couldn't be simpler. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBCiPlayer with DASH support - test version
A Raspberry Pi, basic case, SD card and PSU costs about £55 here. Unless you have terabytes of high-res music a high capacity USB memory stick or portable hard drive will suffice as storage which will give you a very efficient server more than capable of running LMS for around £100. Install Max 2 play pre-packaged LMS server and wire it to your router to avoid WiFi problems. Hopefully BPA can get his life back and do something more fun - like listening to some music! We BBC fans are eternally grateful. I might beg, grovel and implore, but I promise not to complain ;) Your post above has made me think about an occasional problem that may give you another clue. When using DASH sometimes, rather than re-buffer, the stream will simply stop, as if the stop button had been pressed on the controller. Press start on the Controller and the stream will restart. This is a random occurance and less common than the re-buffering. The plugin works fine for me at the moment with HLS set as the first file type, but I am happy to switch over to DASH at any point if you want anything tested. HLS working flawlessly with both live and play-it-again content. Dash rebuffering randomly (every 5-15 minutes or so) but no longer constantly. Not sure what fixed things. I made no changes so I suspect the problems were mainly BBC, exacerbated by a slightly flakey network at my end. Hope I haven't made a mistake moving to Plus net. The router (rather than modem) holds the DNS server > settings, I will check that first. UPDATE: After constant buffering issues I have given up trying to use the plugin for live BBC broadcasts and reverted to the Tunein MP3 streams, which have not buffered at all yet. My live listening tends only to be speech stations or background music, so sound quality is not critical, and I have not come up against any "copyright" issues yet. "Play it again" content, which is my main use of the plugin, is very inconsistent. For testing I eliminated any WiFi problems by plugging a player straight into the modem / router setup with CAT5 cable. Sometimes it worked without buffering for whole programs (30-60 mins), other times it will re-buffer about every 30 seconds. I can only assume it is a BBC issue, or my NAS. I have a spare Raspberry Pi and might try running LMS on that and see if that helps. HLS suffers less than DASH, and I can stream over WiFi using HLS with only a couple of rebuffers every 30 minutes or so. Just to reiterate, I have 30 mb/s fibre internet and this problem only affects the iPlayer Radio plugin. I have no problems with either Spotify (at 320 kb/s) or other non-BBC radio stations via LMS and streaming video on other devices (Sky NowTV films and BBC iPlayer TV) is also no problem. As a result of all my investigations round this problem I am hoping to have solved another issue. VPN connections would drop randomly two or three times a day (my wife and I both work from home a lot), which we did not have with our previous standard ADSL broadband (at 7 mb/s). Looking at the logs in my router and NAS it became apparent that our external IP address was changing at least two or three times a day - the line is dropping and renegotiating regularly with a change in IP address. This would definitely be a cause of these VPN failures. There are no obvious phone line issues and EE cannot see any faults or noise on the line and have no explanation for the line drops. I get the maximum speeds I have contracted for and there is plenty of S/N headroom, so I suspect an intermittent hardware or power supply fault somewhere in the Openreach or EE equipment. A fixed IP address might help here, but EE do not offer this to domestic users. I had a special low price offer from EE which has now come to an end so I am migrating over to PlusNet who offer a fixed IP address for a one-off £5 fee. This goes live on the 30th September so I will report back if it helps with either my iPlayer or VPN problems. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBCiPlayer with DASH support - test version
Regardless of the length of buffer and timeout I have set, iPlayer is buffering every 5 seconds to the extent it is unusable. I have had a much milder form of this problem for a few months now. Most programs would not play all the way through without buffering to some extent and often would stop altogether with a "cannot find..." type error message on the Controller. If that happened I had to leave it for a minute or two and then restart the program which would commence from the beginning. I had assumed it was my network, however the iPlayer phone app would not skip and all other streaming worked fine on a 30MBS fibre internet connection. This occurred worst with DASH but also with HLS. Most owners of Squeezeboxes will have moved on by now, most to the likes of Chromecast and simple Bluetooth streaming. Although we all know the rewards for persistence with Squeezebox are great, very few people are that interested or have the patience. Those that don't will have bought something else yonks ago, those that do will already have found this forum. Sonos's days are numbered. As I said above, I think it is simpler than that. In the Spotify Windows, Android or iOS apps (not LMS), if you "save" an album, the artist on that album automatically appears in the list of artists, you do not need to "follow" the artist - they appear automatically. In the LMS app this is not the case, only those artists you have deliberately chosen to "follow" appear in the artist list. I never "followed" artists, only saved their albums hence none of my artists appeared in the LMS artist list. On reflection I prefer the LMS way, now I know how it works. Less clutter. Weird situation here. Had to reinstall LMS and BBC iPlayer. Using the new alpha version with updated BBCXMLParser file for listen again. Did not get the file permissions right to begin with, and tested using R4 FM. Corrected file permissions and tested R4 FM listen again and still not working. However, all other BBC stations are working fine on listen again except for BBC R4 FM. R4 LW is working so no biggie, but just a bit odd. Could there be some file stuck in the cache from the when I tried to make it work without the right file permissions? If so, which cache file should I delete? I have tried simply restarting LMS but that does not work. Thanks for any help. I play an iPlayer "live" or "play it again" stream for a few minutes fine and then it suddenly stops. I press play again and it says it can't fine the stream. Repeating this immediately makes no difference. After a couple of minutes the problem rectifies itself and I can carry on streaming. How frequently it happens varies. Sometimes it will stream for 30 - 40 minutes without a problem and other times it will happen every 5 minutes. I have no problems using the Tunein radio streams or streaming music files from my server. I did notice once that the indicator light on the front of the Reciever flashed blue for a second when it cut out. For anyone that's not a party to such license terms, there's nothing to stop them from hot-tapping into the streams, but they can't look to the BBC for support. I'm just speculating, but it would explain why RTMP is a topic the BBC won't discuss.I think you are spot on. Part of the BBC's unwillingness to communicate is that they know in the real world people are busy getting round all their restrictions and there is little they can do about it. They don't want to be forced by third parties to change things yet again. They are probably under an obligation to use reasonable endeavours to prevent use of the streams, and provided they have done that, it is not their problem if others are trying unreasonably hard to get round their blocking tactics. If Squeezeboxers want to have a continuing LA service, they should probably keep their heads down on the BBC forums. Stirring things up may force the BBC to change tack again. Thanks to BPA et al I now have Listen Again providing 320 kbps AAC HLS via RTMP using the original hacks. I even have BPA's Extras plugin working again. I am afraid there is no easy fix at the moment. There is an alpha of a new plugin available, but it is very early stages. You will have to wait for a fuller version, but one will probably be available eventually, depending on how much time Triode has to spend on it. You can hack some Linux files to get the streams back, but I am afraid the hacked files don't work on the latest Synology NAS models (any with an Arm7 chip). I have a DS214 and gave up trying. This might lead to demands for the sacrifice of a secondary (or tertiary) amp, power amp, tuner, cassette deck etc if you get my drift (looking at the gear on your signature, you probably do). It's very irritating that the Nas is the problem as running LMS on it to have access to BBC LA programmes was what swung it for me. However, next week, I have an Intel Nuc arriving as a replacement for my desktop and if it's as quiet and cool-running as they promise I suppose I could run LMS on that 24/7. Would it be easier to tweak and get access to listen again on LMS I wonder? Thanks for your reply. Good grief, ditch the cassette deck! The RPi would be much more useful. Have you any idea how small and inconspicuous the RPi is? Mine just sits in a small black case in the tangle of wires hidden behind my PC looking like just another wall wart. If you are getting a NUC anyway and are prepared to run it 24/7 then that would be your most straightforward solution. I have a backup version of LMS on my PC for the odd occasion when the NAS was down. It ran as a service with an icon that sits in the notification area and was quick and reliable. My PC is a large Intel i5 monster with three 2TB hard drives and a hot graphics card - so consumes about 7 times the power of the NAS. Not something I would want to leave switched on 24/7! Just for comparison, my PC is about 100 watts, a NUC is about 28 watts, my Synology is about 15 watts and the Raspberry Pi is 2 watts. So although the NUC would use less electricity than one incandescent light bulb, you could run 15 Raspberry Pi with the same power! Besides, I really don't need to plug yet another device in. Looks like I'll just have to wait for the dust to settle and buy whatever device eventually works. Very upset to lose the Squeezebox Radios. I had a Pure Evoke flow before that, which I loathed. I'll probably go down the Roberts/Sangean route if that looks like a goer. But I'll keep checking in here on the off chance. Thanks to all of those dedicating hours trying to fix this. Synology is the problem, not Arm7. I was of the same mind as you regarding yet another device, that was one of the attractions of the NAS as it could do it all. But there is no sign of Synology fixing it, so the cheapest and quickest option was to try the Raspberry Pi if I wanted to alleviate my BBC withdrawal symptoms! If you follow the instructions and use Squeezeplug / Max2play it is the work of about 30 minutes to put the Pi in a case, connect it up and install the software. If you are clever you can even copy over all your settings and plugins from your Synology installation (the locations of the files are on the last tab of the LMS settings browser page). You can use WinSCP for that. The Max2play bit is a web based user interface for Squeezeplug and is very simple, so if you can manage LMS and the Synology configuration pages you can easily manage Squeezeplug with Max2play. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: PlayHLS Plugin - plugin to play Apple HLS m3u8 stream
Raspberry Pi (version one, model B) with Max2play / squeezeplug (LMS 7.8) installed. Connected by Cat5 to my ADSL router. 80GB of FLAC music files held on a Synology NAS and read by Pi using NFS. Squeezeplug came with ffmpeg and Lame preinstalled so all I needed to do to connect to the new streams was install BPA's HLS plugin and the new menu.opml file. BBC iPlayer live streams started OK, but quickly developed symptoms of 5 seconds of sound followed by 10 seconds of buffering. If I then rebooted the Pi and started one radio stream it would stutter a bit to begin with but then play with only the occasional glitch as long as I wanted. If I stopped it and started another stream it would get worse. After three or four changes of station the buffering would be about every 5 - 10 seconds. After a couple of abortive attempts to install the sigpipe.patch file I eventually got it to work using Ralphy's instructions above. Rebooted the Pi and after that I could switch stations with no deterioration in the buffering. After some further experimentation I found that increasing the radio station buffer to 30 seconds under the LMS settings page (advanced networking) removed all further stuttering and buffering and it now plays fine. Now waiting for the proverbial S to hit the F when the BBC get round to screwing up the play-it-again section of iPlayer, which works very well at the moment. However, I have a feeling the BBC may have under-resourced the bandwidth needed to serve these high bit-rate streams on every station and you may be suffering at the times when everybody is using them at once. Hi Richard, how do you apply this patch? richardsk wrote: I've been looking into why avconv/ffmpeg doesn't stop after playing the HLS stream, and have discovered that it's a problem with the servers' handling of SIGPIPE. The server sets the IGNORE flag on the pipe trap, and the POSIX spec requires the flag to be inherited by any child processes. This is what causes the problem with avconv (some versions of) ffmpeg, as they never see the SIGPIPE when their output is closed. I've patched the trap code in /usr/share/perl5/Slim/bootstrap.pm (7.8.0 build) to use a local function to ignore SIGPIPE and this does not effect any child processes. I've run this patch for a day or so, and it all works correctly for me using avconv as the converter. It needs more testing, but looks good so far. Here's the patch if anyone wants to give it a try. I have checked the plugin has installed OK. I have tried two ways to get ffmpeg installed. I already have IPKG running and simply installed ffmpeg using that. No joy. Uninstalled from IPKG and found a Linux version and dropped it into the @SqueezeCenter/Bin folder (where sox and flac reside) but still no joy. I imagine I have similar issues as Klammer. Has anybody out there got it working on a Synology NAS yet? I understand that your players do not support HLS natively, but it should be possible to transcode the streams using a Server plugin - in which case you need to get in touch with one of the two masters of the art, Triode and BPA. You could then forward them the URLs for the new streams and they can build the appropriate plugin(s) if they feel so inclined! The problem with the Shoutcast streams is the BBC have turned off AAC and left us only with the low bit rate 128kbps MP3 international streams. These are OK for low-fi devices but a sharp reduction in quality compared to the AAC streams that went before, particularly the 320kbps Radio 3 stream. Also, being international, the Radio 5 sports channel cannot now play many live commentaries because of copyright issues. They have also stated that the Shoutcast streams will only be available for 1 or 2 years at which point they will be shut off too. As it stands your SqueezeBox players are practically the only ones with the capability to be adapted (via LMS) to play the new HLS streams. Owners of Sonos, Reciva, Roberts and Cambridge Audio - among others - cannot do this because they lack a server. They seem to have cut off all routes for making suggestions or polite requests. You have to go down the complaints route if you want to communicate with the BBC these days, which is a real shame. Triode and BPA will be very protective of their contacts. They have asked about the listing problem but clearly had no useful answer. If they can't get one the rest of us have even less chance. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: BBCiPlayer Plugin (UK only)
Thanks. My system is two Duets and one Squeezelite (Raspberry Pi with piCorePlayer). Server is a Synology NAS and I am trialling a Squeezeplug on Raspberry Pi server using the NAS to hold the music files. The BBC iplayer plugin worked flawlessly via the NAS server for over two years on standard settings. About 2 months ago the service deteriorated with missing programmes and artwork in the listings and around the same time I started to get the rebuffering. Nothing on the network had changed. The artwork and missing progs improved after some work by Triode but the rebuffering remained. It is very intermittent. Sometimes it will be fine for a couple of hours. At other times ot will rebuffer every minute or so. I suspect either BBC or ISP. The fact that I can stream Spotify without issues to my Squeezeboxen, or iPlayer video to PCs then I strongly suspect the BBC have reduced the resources for this Radio service or demand has risen beyond its current resources. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: BBCiPlayer Plugin (UK only)
Thanks for the help. What puzzles me is why it worked so well for so long and only recently developed problems. There was no change in the system. The two RPi devices post-date the problem. Will the no transcoding option remove server differences and so the player ends up playing the highest form it can cope with natively? In my case that would be WMA for the Receivers and AAC for Squeezelite. I could live with that if it stopped the rebuffering. I would still have the delayed listing issue with WMA would I not? Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: BBCiPlayer Plugin (UK only)
Right BPA, have done some testing. I am using the Squeezeplug as that has a hardware FPU which is better for transcoding. Although the Synology lacked a hardware FPU it would still transcode to most formats except MP3, although Ralphy found me a program that I could install which even did that. MAIN BBC IPLAYER APP The delayed listing issue seems to affect BBC iPlayer whatever option I choose for the transcoding - but you probably already knew that! I find that the programs tend to go on the list in lumps, mid-morning, mid afternoon and late evening. With the allow transcoding option in the iPlayer settings not ticked the Duets play in 96kbps WMA and the Squeezelite at 128kbps AAC. With the option ticked both Duet and Squeezelite are playing 128kbps AAC with the Duets converted to 705kbps FLAC No rebuffering with either option yet. The big test will be at peak listening time in the early evening. IPLAYER EXTAS APP With transcoding ticked there is no change from the situation with the main app, both playing 128kbps AAC with transcoding to FLAC for the Duets. With transcoding un-ticked the Squeeezlite player still plays 128kbps but the Duet falls back to 96kbps WMA, as you would expect. The surprising thing is that it works fine for every program on the list that is available. It seems that on the Extras national listing in the UK there is no delay in getting the WMA stream, it is there at the same time as the AAC one. I am able to play a program that was on air just an hour ago whereas with the iPlayer listing I might have to wait half a day. So there does not seem to be any logical reason why the XML listing couldn't be as up to date as the one the Extras plugin uses (AFAICT). Anyway, thanks for the pointers BPA. I will be using the iPlayer Extras National stations listing from now on. I will keep the transcoding ticked for the time being to see if the rebuffering occurs, and if it does I will disable it and see if it makes a difference. I still strongly suspect that this is a BBC or ISP issue. For a while last week I was using just WMA to all three players with transcoding unticked (almost accidentally, I was trying everything!) and was still getting the rebuffering issue, albeit reduced in severity, so I really don't think it is a server issue. Perhaps it is Orange throttling media streaming at peak times. I would not put it past them! bpa wrote: I feel if rebuffering is frequent and nearly predictable - then it on the user side. Something on the user server, player and/or network needs to be fixed. My litmus test would be playing a live WMA stream through mysb.com on a player hardwired into the router which connects to ISP. Regarding the server, I would agree if the rebuffering were -consistent- as well as predictable, but it isn't. Most of the time it works fine, just at peak times that it has an issue. And occasionally at random other times. Maybe somebody else in the house is using the internet that I am not aware of. We have an au-pair who Skypes back to France regularly which might have an effect. I am on my own in the house at the moment. Since my last message I have been listening to the Radio 3 live 320kbps AAC stream on a Duet transcoded using the RPi SqueezePlug without a hitch for over 30 minutes. I really think we can discount the server side of this. The Synology has been happily transcoding and steaming this high bitrate stream to my Receivers for over two years with nary a glitch until about a month ago. The SqueezePlug / RPi is also doing this fine without a hitch -at the moment-. Maybe if I were transcoding different streams to different players simultaneously then I should consider a new server, but that almost never happens at the moment. I also doubt it is my WiFi. Each Duet is served by a different AP and the system will happily stream different FLAC files from my library to each of my three players. I am sure the problem has something to do with t'interweb somewhow. Either my 9 meg download speed is insufficient for the demands of two adults, three teenagers and an au pair (quite possible) or my cheap and nasty ISP is throttling at peak times (more likely), or the BBC is not resourcing the iPlayer radio service properly (also possible). When changing LMS server - personally I would look for a one with more one than more core and decent amount of memory. Pi is too minimal for my liking - something like Wandboard dual would make a better LMS server. Also I'd use Arch to avoid unnecessary processes/overheads.I agree that a more powerful server would be nice. I have LMS installed on my Quad Core i7 Windows 7 machine with 16GB memory - the one I do all my recording and ripping on - so if I want more power I can always switch to that. Perhaps I will try using it at peak times and see if I still get the iPlayer rebuffering. If I do I think we can discount server issues! Anyway thanks for all your help, I now have a much better clue about how this brilliant plug-in works. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: BBCiPlayer Plugin (UK only)
Well, since my earlier postings I have had Triode's BBC iPlayer plug-in running almost solidly through the SqueezePlug and Duet. I have been picking programs from Radios 3, 4 and 6 and interspersing with a few FLAC files from my library. I particularly concentrated on running iPlayer in the 5-9pm slot. Transcoding was enabled to stress the SqueezePlug as much as possible. And you know what? Not a single glitch, dropout or rebuffer the whole day, as far as I could tell. Clearly, if there still is a problem, it is very unlikely to lie with either my server(s) or my home network. Perhaps everybody is away on holiday so not using their broadband? I found a web site that collected reported problems called downdetector that reports when people get problems with web sites and apps. iPlayer Radio issues rise from about 4pm through to about midnight in a nice bell shaped curve peaking between 7pm and 10pm. Now there is nothing to say this is caused by the BBC itself, these could all just be people with poor broadband connections. However, whatever the cause I am clearly not alone. Oh, and it was great to listen to Guy Garvey on Desert Island Discs. Elbow are my favourite band at the moment, and possibly of all time, and I do try and listen to Guy Garvey's Finest Hour on 6 music when I can. That man is a poet. Bones of You, Lippy Kids, Sad Captains and New York Morning - just some of my faves. If you are wondering why I am posting at 3am it is because I fell asleep in an armchair listening to some Joni Mitchell and have just woken up and thought I would post before I turn the PC off. Frustrating stuff this internet malarky. Perhaps I should go with Fibre broadband? It is available around here but hellishly expensive. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: BBCiPlayer Plugin (UK only)
Triode, I know you are a busy man - but would it be possible to have another look at this app? Not sure what is wrong, or if it is fixable, but the app now shows only between a quarter to half of all the programs broadcast during a day and then often not for several hours after the official iPlayer web site. It is now 5pm and the Radio 4 listing ends at 11:30am and it does not list the four major programs between 7:00 and 11:30 including Today and Saturday Live. Even after a day it frequently does not have the major news programs, with the exception of PM, which is usually there. This is a real shame, as it is the main use that my Squeezeboxes get. Currently I have resorted to streaming the audio from iPlayer from a PC using a Windows application called Jamcast - far from ideal. If you are more used to Android Apps generally you would probably prefer Orange Squeeze. On my phone (Samsung S3 mini) the official Logitech app is actually the fastest and more responsive of the two by some way. The more attractive interface is Orange Squeeze, and I like its integration with SqueezePlayer. It has a more flexible interface that is laid out much more like other Android apps. In practice I use the Logitech App when I need stuff quick and know where it is, but if listening via the phone's headphone socket or when browsing music in a more leisurely fashion I will use Orange Squeeze. Previously they put up a list of all broadcast programs whether or not they were actually available to stream. You only found out when you clicked on the program and it either streamed or gave you an error message. It usually took between two and three hours for a program to be available, but sometimes even longer than that. So if, at 7pm you tried to stream the 6pm news it would usually produce an error message. From my experience this is the same with the BBC iPlayer extras, and in fact their own Radio iPlayer app. On my Android phone it just says coming soon rather than giving the error. With the latest situation with Triode's plugin you now you only see the available programs. So if you are looking at 7 or 8pm it is not unusual only to see programs up to 3pm. At $60 it is not cheap, but extremely powerful and configurable. It can detect file changes in real time and copy them over and it can do scheduled syncs (which is how I use it). When you overwrite or delete a file it can archive the old version so you can go back to an earlier version when you screw up. The main advantage is bi-directional synch which means you can make changes on either drive and it will synch the two. It can do all sorts of types of backup too. As well a synching various folders between PC and NAS I also use it for synching my laptop between work network and home. I would not bother with the reduced price version of the program as there is plenty of other freeware out there that will do 90% of the job. Sorry I cannot make any more suggestions as I have not really used anything else.
