I find this extremely odd as the M4A format or AAC has been in use for a decade
and all modern music players have no trouble with the format.

I really love the way the "Auto" mode works and it should be good enough
for most situations people are likely to come across.
The recorder sets the level and if the level is quieter the recorder

Tascam make something similar to the Zoom F8 but the configuration is

Firstly you can only record 2 inputs at a time even though the recorder

as Tascam likes taking shortcuts in build quality and design these days,
yet another case of one "Big Boy" company just trading on what once was

I have been trying to get hold of the Olympus LS-14 recorder but sadly
the model has been discontinued so the Australian supplier offered me a
swap of machines in my order, the Olympus LS-P4.
The P4 look a rather nice machine but I did note two features of
interest that others may wish
Unfortunately I'll only be using 2 channels to make a stereo recording,
I only have so many microphones you know .

Thanks to the list member who recommended the Zoom H6 recorder, I’ve had mine
for a month and to say I’m pleased with this recorder is indeed an
understatement.
The Zoom H6 is the best field recorder I’ve ever owned for so many reasons
