In Terceira, Ribeira Seca is (as said Helen) beetween São Sebastião and Fonte 
Bastardo.No XVI to XVIII centuries, Ribeira Seca was in Fonte Bastardo to the 
adminstratives problems. Now is in the circumspection of São Sebastião. But, to 
the parish, all the people went to São Sebastião, all the time (batism, 
marriage and obit). Ther is a little chapel founded by Gaspar Machado da 
Ribeira Seca no XVI century. But, no parish records. The records are in São 
Sebastião.
If you send the parents of Maria Felicia (and some date), perhaps I can help 
you.

João born with a brother (hum irmao). They are baptised the same day and the 
other (brother of João) died (o outro faleceo). João received "exorcismos" on

Andre Frs (Fernandes) :OK. But, Raposo doesn't seem correct. Look the name Roiz 
(Rodrigues). The "R" is differentt of the first letter.Perhaps a "B" like 
Bispado (4 lines upper), or Borges (2 lines upper) and Bernabe in the next 
mariage (in the "testemunhas", 2nd line from end).After the B, it's difficult ; 
Bis...  the final sign is probably a "v" (like Vigario of the priest 
signature). "Bisvo" ??? is not usual to me. It's need other text about the

 Is Maria Martins father named Andre FERNANDEZ RAPOZO?  I know the mother is 
Maria Goncalvez.  The Fernandez abbreviation does look different but not sure.  
I found this name on Family Search but it said Fernandez.  But then, they 
didn't enter the name Rapozo either.    Is is Rapozo after the name Fernandez?

Yes, it's possible. I have some cases in my data base. But, the mariage record 
would be mentionned  a "dispensa por consanguinidade de 1° grao em linha 
colateral" ou "1° e 2° grao de consanguinidade". It's not write, in your case.
Josefa Joaquina is a frequent surname. I have 12 Josefa Joaquina in my data 
base (but not yours). The most probable is the priest wrote tio maternos (would 
be a mistake), in place of tios paternos (I look that a lot of time).Then 
Josefa Joaquina, wife of Manoel José Coelho, is the sister of Antônio da Rocha 
Tristão and the paternal aunt of Maria.
Try to find the batism record of Maria do Carmo in São Mateus and , perhaps, 
there are the parents of Josefa Joaquina, mother of Maria do Carmo. If not, the 
godparents could be indications.

My conundrum, did Maria do Carmo marry her uncle
I can tell you, this one is driving me a little by crazy.  It's keeps going in 
circles and circlesI think Josefa Joaquina and the family were trying to 
hide something (or someone).
Any suggestions/comments/ideas appreciated.

record is a sentence of the parish priest who did it by request of Umbelina 
Jacinta. The sentence date is 1807, 14 march.The correct date of the marriage 
of Umbelina Jacinta with Francisco da Costa is 1807, 15 march (not 14 
march).Then, before her 2nd marriage, Umbelina Jacinta needed a sentence to 
confirm her 1st husband is died.

I think the obit of Manuel was on 1937, 3 April.The marriage was on 1923, 23
April.The the margin note was wrote on 1975, 5 April.
Why 40 years between the obit and the margin note ? Perhaps a certificate was
useful to a descendant in 1975.

This is my grandmother's first cousin (new to me). I think the top note was
written after the part on the next page. It appears to be dated 1937 but my
eyes may be wrong. Is it about his death?
On the next page I get the part about his marriage to Maria Amelia on (I think)
26 April 1923 but there seem to be other dates.
I don't need a word for word translation. I'd just like to know if I'm missing
something important.

Yes, I know this genealogy (It's a copy of the book "Genealogias da Ilha 
Terceira, Vol. III, p. 11-15).But it's too long to a reappearence of a surname 
3 centuries after. I confirm the suname of Pedro Gonçalves is "Barrancos". He 
is a end-line. Without others documents, we cannot know his parents.
Your Pedro Gonçalves is "Gonçalves Sapato" married with Maria Rodrigues and 
father of Beatriz Gonçalves married with Antonio Gonçalves Caldeira. It's not 
the same. 
Francisco Vieira and Esperança de Jesus had, at least, five children married, 
and a lot of descendants.

Thanks for the info.I thought I would share the information I have on the other 
Barrantes from the 1300’s: She was Dona Maria Fernandes Barrantes (in my book 
from Joao Ventura on page 433) married to Joao Lourenco do Amaral. Dona Maria 
and Joao have a daughter Dona Brites Anes do Amaral who was born about 1410. 
Dona Brites (pg 397-433) marries Vasco Cardoso and they have a son named Luis 
Vaz Cardoso born about 1420 (pg 397). Luis married Leanor Rodrigues de 
Vasconcelos and they have a son named Joao Vaz Cardoso (pg 397). Joao marries 
Dona Maria de Faria and they have a son who appears in my tree twice. Their 
son’s name was Martim Anes Cardoso (reference number 164, page 397, 407-397). 
Martim with unknown woman has Ines Martins Cardoso and Henrique Cardoso. Ines 
Martins Cardoso (pg 407) was born about 1475 and she marries Alvaro Martins 
Homem. Henrique (pg 397) marries Beatriz Afonso Homem. I’m wondering if the 
1600’s and 1300’s Barrantes/Barrancos lines will connect and if I should change 
the name of the other Barrantes in my database to Barrancos. What is the proper 
method for handling this new information?  Additional I have a Pedro Goncalves 
(pg 171) married to a Maria Rodrigues and they have a child named Beatriz 
Goncalves who was born in Biscoitos. Beatriz marries Antonio Goncalves Caldeira 
from Biscoitos in 1654. They have a child name Margarida Goncalves born 1606 in 
Biscoitos and marries Manuel de Avila from Agualva in 1699. Margarida and 
Manuel have a daughter named Beatriz dos Reis born 1707 in Agualva who marries 
Manuel Fernandes Vieira of Biscoitos in 1727, Beatris and Manuel have a son 
named Francisco Vieira born in Biscoitos who marries Esperanca de Jesus in 
Altares in 1775. After this couple the line stays in Altares. The name seem to

february 25); 2nd book, fl. 20v. It is his 3rd marriage. The 2nd is in Altares

and native from Ilha do Pico.

Yes. Thank you. It was my faul.t I was looking at two records at the same time. 
I posted a correction but Rosemarie responded without reading it.  I was 
reading the word widow as a last name Vieira for the bride and then thought it 
was her father. Once I looked at it again I realized it was widow. In a reply 
to the original post I posted the link to Rosa Marie first marriage. I need 
help reading that record.

 It says Sebastiao Soares de Melo, son of Joao Soares de Melo and Ana Maria, 
married Rosa Maria, daughter of Manuel Goncalves Fialho and Benedicta do 
Espirito Santo. I question if I have the correct groom’s father’s name. Could 
it be Sousa? Also does it say what village they are from because I can not find 
then in the marriage index for Altares? This is why I question my reading of 
the groom’s father’s name.

I think Rosmarie is right about the bride's parents in the lower right record.  
However, that is the marriage of Manuel Francisco da Silva and Maria Isabel 
rather than the couple in your subject line.  Your couple is the top left 
record and the bride's parents are not listed; she is listed as the widow of 
Sebastiao Soares buried in this same parish of Sao Roque.

No indication where Pico he is from. But Ursula is died in N.S. da Conceição of 
Angra. perhaps her obit said where she is from.Beatriz is widow of João Coelho

where?) then it says something about Angra?

from Pico?)

I think Rosmarie is right about the bride's parents in the lower right record.  
However, that is the marriage of Manuel Francisco da Silva and Maria Isabel 
rather than the couple in your subject line.  Your couple is the top left 
record and the bride's parents are not listed; she is listed as the widow of 
Sebastiao Soares buried in this same parish of Sao Roque.

No indication where Pico he is from. But Ursula is died in N.S. da Conceição of 
Angra. perhaps her obit said where she is from.

Beatriz is widow of João Coelho (de Ornelas) died in Altares. This mariage is

another day, because my bdd is on another computer forbidden of internet (hi

But, I search more about Francisco Correa Romeiro e Maria Augusta.On the batism 
of Maria, her maternal grandparents are Francisco Coelho Pinheiro and Gertrudes 
Candidad do Coraçao de Jesus. I have a Francisco Gonçalves Pinheiro and 
Gertrudes Candida married in Altares on 14 june 1835 ((img 36). This Francisco 
have a Nicolau Borges Coelho (3th grand father). Perhaps, he is the father of 
Maria Augusta.
Paternal grandparents of Maria are Silvestre Correa Roeiro and Francisca de 
Jesus. Their marriage is in Altares on é& junes 1845 (img 17); The parents of 
Francisca de Jesus are José NUNES do COUTO (like Francisco sometimes). 
Silvester is widow of Maria Vicência, and i Don't found this marriage. Maria 
Vicencia died on11 march 1845, with 23 years old. Then she married a littel 
time before 1845.I searched a Silvestre in Altares, name no frequent. And in my 
bdd I have a Silvestre born in Altares, on 31 december 1809 (img 114). His 
parents are Filipe Romeiro and Maria de Jesus. And his paternam grandparents 
are José CORREIA ROMEIRO and Maria Josefa. Then, this Silvestre is probably our 
Silvestre CORREIA ROMEIRO.All of them I have ascendents until the 6th or 9th 
generation.

de Melo Machado and Isabel de Jesus.

Now the adding of the “do Coito” to Francisco Nunes seem likely since I saw 
that surname on Amelia’s baptism as her godfather Manuel Nunes do Coito. Also I 
have been trying to track the Jose Coelho Berbereia for year now who seems to 
change his name to Jose Coelho de Melo and Jose Coelho de Melo Machado. This is 
very confusing because I believe this Jose is the son of Jose Coelho de Melo 
and Isabel de Jesus, which is the son of Jose Coelho de Melo and Isabel de 
Jesus, which is the son of Jose Coelho de Melo and Isabel da Conceicao who also 
uses Isabel de Jesus( my 2nd Great Grandparents, who is the son of Francisco 
Jose Berbereia and Joana Antonia. 

This change in their name continues through the rest of their children:
