The Acadian was with several Red-eyed Vireos and a Least and “Traill’s” at
the S end of Salmon Point Road. It was slowly moving N through the tree
line, on the W side of the road, when I left the site. I took five or so
documentation shots, which I’ll include in an eBird checklist later this

Just had a grey morph Gyrfalcon on Wolfe Island. 7th concession, about 150
meters south of Bennett Road. It was exceptionally large to the eye; even
slightly larger than a Red-tailed Hawk. It hunted a Canada Goose, taking
several stabs at it!

I have a bird that is very promising for female Tufted Duck at Shirley’s
Bay boat launch. It is about 200 meters out and slightly east of the boat
launch. Heavy snow isn’t helping viewing but I noticed very promising field
marks including a short tuft at the rear of its head

I have just found a (presumed male) Western among the Semi-sands. A much
more subtle, shorter-billed individual, with notch near the tip. A fun ID
challenge for visiting Birders! Beach 2 continues to be the spot to view
shorebirds. I will post photos of the short-billed WESA when I upload my
eBird
Just a lil heads up that the Western continues at Presqu’ile Park as of
noon today (3 September). Hundreds of shorebirds are concentrated between
beach 2 and 3, providing great study. A Merlin is making the occasional
pass or two, but the shorebirds return in little time.

For anyone birding the Windsor area today: just had a YTWA among 16 other
Warbler species along the “Savanna Loop” of Objibway. I am standing along
the trail where it passes over a swamp. The flock is slowly moving north at
this time. Also had a singing male Cerulean and a silent female in with
The WEWA continues at Westside Marsh. We parked and took the leftsife trail
into the woods. About half way around the loop, with a small marsh to our
left and the woods to the right, we took to a seasonal trail which cut into
the woods themselves. The WEWA is about 100 m along that trail, probing

copper-topped millet feeder at Denise's neighbour's place (the neighbour to

flying WNW from Salmon Point lighthouse, past my vantage at Lakeshore
Lodge. It continued NW to the North Beach area. Additionally I have just
redound the Black Vulture. It is with Turkey Vultures at the S end of
Outlet
I just flushed a Black Vulture from Outlet Beach where it meets the
rivermouth of Outlet River. It soared right above me. It’s still here now,
coasting in the strong west wind.

At 1108 hrs I had a PALO following the contour of the shoreline, approx 400

On Sunday, September 30th, a few of us birded along LaPasse Road in search
of Sandhill Cranes. Norm Jones of the Pembroke Field Naturalists mentioned

The Avocets returned and landed within 100 m of us while we were on the
beach. Took a bunch of photos this time around. They flew NW and were quite
flighty as there are still many beach goers. Outlet Beach near the outlet
rivermouth is almost clear of people, so I’m hoping they return and settle
I drove to the NW end of Outlet Beach and scanned the gulls with my bins.
No Avocets, unfortunately. Further along down the private beach I saw a few
shorebirds which I think were Sanderlings, but I don’t have a scope. We are
on the beach for the day and I’ll update if the Avocets reappear.

While swimming at Outlet beach, quite close to outlet river, two American
Avocets flew literally right over us! They were flying NW and seeking shore
to land on. The beach is packed with swimmers, so they couldn’t land. After
a while, I lost sight of them (was in the water, using my naked eye to
An update on the continuing Marbled Godwit
We observed the bird at the location mentioned by Jeff Skevington at 1240
PM. As we were walking away we observed the bird fly past us, flying toward
the bridge at Hazeldean Road where it crosses the Carp River. It appeared
to land near that bridge.
It’s been over 25 minutes since it’s been seen. Last observed heading E
along river, near north end of Champlain Bridge. May in fact be a first
summer bird (essentially adult body plumage with black and white mottling
throughout the hood; not a deep, clean-black hood). On that note, photos

nearly 1000 Brant while driving from Ottawa to Napanee. All skeins were

Just past the VC, walk the sandy path to the beach Lookout. The Neo was
straight out from the path, bobbing in the calm closer waters. The bird was
very dainty in build (short and thin bill, small skull, thin neck); had a
dark face (I couldn’t detect any orange as in DCCO); and the clincher was a

I have just located a first winter drake Barrows among Common Goldeneye. A

Red-shouldered Hawk along Howe Island Ferry Rd. On 23 November 2016, Andrew

This is an update for those considering traveling to Ottawa this weekend.
The Razorbill was last seen just before 5:00 PM on Wednesday, November 1st,
drifting/flying eastward. I spent some time scanning the Ottawa River this
afternoon, from Bate Island to the east to Andrew Park to the west.

No further updates to report. Multiple observers birded the river from 1:30
PM until sunset. As an FYI, my brain quickly "set" on Thick-billed
Murre/Razorbill when I first observed it, but that doesn't mean much given
the distance to the subject, the very strong west winds shaking my optics

flying from east to west, first seen near Britannia Pier then straight out
from Andrew Haydon east (ie the "fulmar spot") It landed in the surf and I

Prothonotary Warbler that he and Sheila Craig observed and photographed at
Mud Lake in Ottawa. They saw the bird at approximately 11 AM this (Sunday)
morning
The juvenile Long-billed Dowitcher found by Mike Tate, Michelle Martin and
Paul Martin continues at the Strandherd Road Storm Sewer. Regarding
lighting, morning light is best when approaching from the Home Depot
parking lot side; late afternoon light is best on the opposite side of the
bank.
The adult light morph Parasitic Jaeger continues at Andrew Haydon Park
east. Intermittently harassing Ring bills then resting on water.
Directions: Accessed from Carling Ave. park in eastern parking lot and walk
N to Ottawa River shoreline.

Today (24 April) at 1:00 PM, I observed a Yellow Palm Warbler (hypocrysea)
along a trail within Maple Hill Park. I have X'd the spot on the trail
where I observed the bird. All-round good spring birding throughout the
trail system and along the adjacent Rideau River: Yellow-rumped
