If someone is in the Amsterdam area, maybe they can go pick the machine
up, take it home, and see why it got to be so unreliable of late--it's
actually still up, and ping-able, but most of the useful services are
unresponsive.

Apart from the human user accounts, the package database scripts ran as
a "pdb" user--but I don't happen to know what other groups that user was
a mem

Bootstrap worked for me, too (having applied the changes noted in issue
# 86)--I made sure to use a shell session where my regular fink was
deactivated.
