kitchen chair types, - back to back, and then place the skein around the
back of the chairs, and separate them, until the skein is firm around them.

I always understood that it was thought the difference came about due to the
English worker watching someone work while they, - the watcher, - was
standing in front of the pillow - so of course, the footside would look like
it was on the opposite side to what it really was.

very 'white' colour, - for my thoughts. I have some old bobbins passed down
through the family, and they are mostly a deeper creamy colour.
The lettering on my bobbins is less sharp - this looks more like newer

Up in the Top End (of Australia), some 25 or more years ago, a lady got
herself a copy of rosemary shepherd's Beginners book, and taught herself
from that book. She then found some other like-minded ladies, lent the book,
and helped them learn from it. There is now a thriving Lace Group in the
I forgot to mention that I am self-taught for tatting, and also for the the
start of Needlelace.
I was lucky to have a nice lady,- now sadly passed on - who helped and
encouraged me at various Lace Days where we would meet every 2 months.
I had been struggling on my own for a couple of years,
I made 3 Beds hankies from Springett patterns, - but I used a fine silk
thread not cotton, - and a couple of teachers went Yuk when they saw
them - as they were soft and 'floppy not stiff and crisp, laying over the
hand. Which is what Beds lace is supposed to do - according to them.

I bought some Filet net from Lacis, last year. They had free postage within
USA - so I had it sent to Helen, and then collected it when we visited.
There are different sizes of mesh - I usually use the 9 count. The net is
wider than normal dress fabric, but you buy it by the yard .
What very sad news. Please pass on my condolences to her son and family.
I never met her, of course, but know the name, and know of her vast
knowledge of our craft.

excellent and the batteries last Ages. I have a fold of firm fabric that I
pin to the pillow, and then clip the light onto that, as there are no holes

Firstly. - ANZAC Day greetings to all Aussies.
I went to the Portland convention in 2010 - as a student, (the other 2 I
have been to I was a teacher), - and I had a ball there! Loved every
minute! The hotel was very helpful, and class rooms were very good. I have

supermarket - in with the pens paper section. School kids use it, and

panel on the Ruff was the same as on the dress, but when enlarged I could
see that the central panels are different, but the edges appear to be the

I have a lighted magnifier that screw onto the side of a table, like that
one shown in the Daylight company link, - except mine is not a round
fluorescent tube, but a normal light bulb. However I found this too bright
for my needlelace, and too hot on my hand, so I use just an 11 or 15 watt
So sorry to hear you have lost the sight in one eye, Chantal, and have had
to give up lacemaking.
