Subject: [JAWS-Users] Taking word documents out of protected view.

At work, we are still using Windows 7, office 2010, but I have Jaws 17.

I guess this is really a Windows question, but am going to ask it here,
since I am a Jaws user.

On Windows 7, all I have to do is to press F6 and I have the option to take
the document out of protected view, which enables editing.

I'm finding in Windows 10, I no longer have this option. Is there a
short-cut key combination I can now use without going into the menus
hierarchy?

Thanks, as always for your help. I have been saving up my issues for such a
list as this. (smiles)

Judy

Good morning Jaws users list.

Using word 2016 to open PDF documents. Many of you probably already know you
can open PDF documents with word 2016. However I do not usually use PDF
documents. But I found a bible training site called, bibletraining.org, for
more advanced bible lessons. These lectures are many hours long and come
with PDS documents with many pages of notes. To use word 2016 to open PDF
documents, do the following.

1. Highlight the PDF document.
2. Press the applications key.
3. Down arrow to open with sub menu, right arrow, press enter on word
2016.
4. You will hear, word can open this in an editable readable document,
press enter on the OK button.
5. In about 5 to 30 seconds depending on the size of the PDF document,
word will open the PDF document in a protected view word document.
6. What I did for the large 200 to 300 page files.
7. I pressed control+a, to select all, followed by control+escape to
refresh Jaws.
8. I then pressed control+c, to copy all the text, followed by
control+escape to refresh the page.
9. Then I opened a note pad document, pressed control+v to paste all
the content of the PDF document into note pad, of course you lose the
formatting.
10. But this method worked very well for me, I just wanted the text of
the PDF document.

If any of you are interested in this bible training site that works
fantastic with Jaws, read below.

You need to first set up an account with the site.

Go to:

Bibletraining.org

Many of these college level bible courses. Contain audio lectures from about
10 hours to about 26 hours.

And many have hundreds of pages of notes.

Happy bible studying! Smiles.

I am in the same place as Justin, I read non-fiction where I may need to
learn how to spell proper nouns or Spanish texts where I need to see accent
marks. Will either of these do that?

I'd like to add that the experience is significantly different
between the books from Audible and Bookshare. Bookshare books which for most
part need your native device TTS robot to read can be far less relaxing and
pleasurable to listen to than Audible where most if not all books are
recorded by real live human voice actors. I tried to read novels and books
from Bookshare using my devices TTS and just did not enjoy the experience at
all. The same books for example, from Audible, or any other from Audible on
the other hand is far more relaxing and pleasurable as you are listening to
a live real human being who has all these speech inflections that a robot
TTS however advanced our current TS voices may be, just do not match.
Pl do consider this factor in your book purchase decision.

I've been using audible regularly for about 5 months now and find it's
great. There's some obscure titles it doesn't have, but that's not
surprising.

When displaying search results, They don't use headings, so I do a control f
for the word wish. Other than that, it's pretty straight forward.

Yes indeed, weather underground has changed, and not for the better. We now
get only current weather information, and no longer future weather
information, such as for the next day.

Who needs to know the weather for tomorrow anyway? I do.

Hi,
Yes, the steps I gave are for using Jaws & Openbook. But, if you're asking
if this could be done using Jaws only, then the only thing I can tell you is
try using the OCR funtion in Layered keystrokes. Press, Jaws key +
spacebar, then pressthe, question mark key, to hear Jaws tell you the
various options & keystrokes for using each function.
Take care.

You can also try Openbook for this. With the, PNG, file highlighted press,
Control + P, to open the print dialog, arrow down to, Freedom Import

It's not a built in function of Windows or Internet Explorer, it'sw provided
by another program, Avast anti virus has one, but I personally use
Sandboxie, except for one control, I've found it to be quite accessible, and
have since been in contact with the developer who is interested in making
sure it is fully accessible

Unfortunately it's also not free, I know I paid around $30 for a lifetime
license about 13 years ago. I don't know if the price has changed or if
lifetime licenses are still offered.

By lifetime I mean that my license is good for all future versions of the
program.

Hi,

I am running JFW 18, Windows 10, and MS Word 2016.

When I open a document when another document is already open I have a lot of
trouble getting Jaws to focus on the newly opened document. Jaws+T says
that I am in the new document. However, Jaws will not read the document and
focus returns to the previous document.

Sometimes I can move the Jaws cursor to text in the newly opened document
and route the PC cursor to the Jaws cursor. However, this only works part
of the time.

Sometimes I can resolve the problem by alt-tabbing to another program and
then alt-tabbing back to the newly opened document. But, again, this works
only part of the time.

Sometimes I can resolve the problem by restarting Jaws.

I have tried going back to the default user settings (control+spacebar, Z).
That does not resolve the problem.

Does anyone have any ideas?

That does not resolve the problem.

Does anyone have any ideas?

This must be a problem unique to Windows 10 because I've never had a problem
setting a shortcut key for an application, including setting alt
+ control + shift + J for JAWS. I'm using 32 bit Windows 7 Home Premium.

Cheers!

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 18 shortcut on desktop

2016-12-16 Thread Justin Williams
I just tried it. I het alt enter, then alt k for shortcut. I hit the
letter j, then alt a for apply. Here is what I got.
Access denied. I have to provide administrative access before I can do
that.
I hit the continue button and this is what I got.
 "C:\Program Files\Freedom Scientific\JAWS\16.0\jfw.exe"
So, how do I get past administrative access; as far as I know, I'm the
administrator.

You'll probably need to contact Microsoft support instead of Freedom

If I understand your question correctly, put your focus at the beginning of
the sentence and press either of two key combinations. Alt-delete will give
you the position in terms of inches. JAWS key+3 on the numpad will give you
the position number in relation to the margin.

Another way is to press the key combo control-e. This is the toggle for
centering and un-centering text. Press Listen to what JAWS reports. If the
first press of this combo has JAWS verbalize "align left," you'll know the
text wasn't left-aligned. You'll simultaneously fix the problem. But if JAWS
says "centered," press the key combo again to left-align the text.

Hi Adam!

If I recall correctly control + page up and control + page down will switch
tabs.

I rarely use them as I configured Excel to only create one worksheet in new
files. I figured that if I needed more, I could always create them.

Also, while you are in Excel, you can press the JAWS key + F1 to get Excel
specific JAWS help, though come to think of it, the control + page up or
down are Excel's own hot keys, not JAWS' so they may not be in the Excel
JAWS help.

I'm in an email and it has a graphic Jaws will read graphic 4565435643234566
that's just an example I'd like to know where to turn that berbosity setting

this particular program at home. I've checked out some of the free webinars
but need to figure out a better way or place in the help menu with jaws to
look up stuff like this lol.
Thanks. I sure appreciate being on here to ask these questions.

You can get Captcha Be Gone from here:
https://captchabegone.com/

Since it is written for the visually impaired, it is fully accessible via
screen readers, including JAWS.

A couple of things to know.

It is not free, they use a subscription model, the program is fairly new so
they are offering introductory pricing, either $3 per month or $33 per year.
You can solve an unlimited number of captchas as long as your subscription is
up to date.

I myself would have preferred a per use model, since I don't very often
encounter captchas. But I'll take something that works over anything else any
day.

It is available for Internet Explorer and Firefox. Chrome may be supported
later on.

For the internet Explorer plug in, the Captcha solved window doesn't have any
obvious way to dismiss it. You dismiss it using Alt+F4.

They say most Captchas are solved in 15 seconds, however, I've found that 30 to
60 seconds is more accurate.

hth

Cheers!

I, too, find cursor placement frustrating. Have you ried tabvbing instead of
arrowing?

The audio captcha is, well, audible but I find cursor placement a bit
frustrating. Practice makes perfect, I guess. I resist having my kids read me
the captcha!

Something must have change in the Jaws-users mail commands, I still use the
insert + shift + R to reply back to the sender,

If, I'm correct control + R use to replied to the entire group.

Hi,

I'm not sure if it's by luck, or outlook 2016, or the jaws version I'm using
which is 17. Heck, I just don't know. In any event, those using outlook
2016, since that's the version I'm using, could someone (and you can use my
email here to test it if you'd like) evoke the keystroke insert shift r to
see if the reply directly to sender works for them?
I don't think this mailing list replies directly to the member when replying
like other lists but I do remember the above keystroke not working in the
past, and again, I'm not sure if it's jaws 17, or outlook 2016. If it is
outlook 2016, awesome as smile that keystroke never worked for me in
previous versions which got me in trouble quite a bit.
I bring this up as I was talking to a buddy about this and how I can reply
directly to a sender without opening up notepad, coppying, pasting etc. I
just went to five different emails on different mailing lists and insert
shift r indeed replied directly to sender, which rocks.

Respectfully,

Kimsan Song

George, here's what I think. I think that I am replying to you directly. To
do this I pressed ctrl R.
If I wanted to reply to the whole list, I would press ctrl shift R.
So I think that if you want to reply to an email directly press ctrl R. If
you want to reply to the whole list press ctrl shift R.
So if this email appears on the whole list I have got it wrong. Try it.

Control alt and the arrow keys, so right goes one cell to the right, left
goes one cell to the left and up and down arrows go one cell up and down.
Use control alt arrow keys.
You can also use the table layer keystroke which is insert space bar t.
That will liet you use just the arrow keys to navigate the table.

Hi Jerry.

You can use the tab key to move from cell to cell, and here you will go from
left column to right column, and so on from the next row, and if you
continue when reaching the butttom of table and pressing tab, you'll add one
more row to the table.

Hi Adrian,

Thanks for the idea. However, I have changed my plan for this project because
the workarounds I have are just too prone too error. I wanted to compile
recipes with each section being a new recipe. Then, have a footer for each
recipe, plus, if the recipe went to more than one page, a continuation footer
for that recipe. Page numbers continuous. Plus a front section of Roman page
numbers with a generated table of contents.

Honestly, I find so much that Jaws isn't reading in the various dialogues to do
this. I am struggling with section breaks, page numbering, and especially the
footers. So many steps backward in accessibility in my humble opinion.
And I'm supposed to pay for a Jaws upgrade SMA now. Just wondering why. How
many more things can they screw up or not keep up with? It always seems that
once past the basics, accessibility is somewhat lacking.

Sorry everyone for the vent, but I hate dumbing something down just to make it
work. I used to be able to do all of this with no problem. Now, not so much.

Hi, Jean.

I notice that no MS Word 2016 user has responded. As a 2010 user, where I know
footers worked fine for you, I can offer only the suggestion that you type the
text you want to appear in the footer in a separate document and paste it into
the footer field. Hardly elegant, but it might be a workaround.

I’m using Word 2016 and Jaws 17.0.2619.

I want to create documents with page footers. Each page needs its own unique
footer. I know how to get to the footer dialogue, but Jaws doesn’t read any of
the text in the dialogue as I type or as it appears. Outside of the dialogue, I
can use insert F1 to hear document info, but this is a tedious way to check
footers, and doesn’t allow for editing, etc.

Is there a solution for this? It used to work in previous versions of Word and

Jean,

In fairness, didn't you say you used to be able to handle footers in previous
versions of Word? So maybe it isn't so much that JAWS went backwards, but that
it hasn't kept up with Office 2016. Also, you indicated you're using JAWS 17.
Maybe 18 has caught up.

Of course, having to keep up-to-date with JAWS via SMA is an added biennial
expense, but I find that FS makes improvements beyond those it publicizes,
perhaps because as it fixes one way of interacting with applications and the
Internet, other nagging problems go away.

Still, JAWS is far from perfect, and it's maddening when what worked in one
version of JAWS or in a program it used to support suddenly doesn't. this is
why those of us who keep up with JAWS but don't go out and buy the latest
version of every other application can get annoyingly smug.

We knew how to identify vertical tabs. What we couldn't do was perform a

term, but as Brian and you point out, the correct code is ^011. I just
tested a search-and-replace with the 0 added and immediately got rid of 24

Hi Adrian & Jorge,

Try the following:
From: Brian Lee
The following steps should work:
1. Press JAWS key with D to bring up the dictionary manager.

2. Use CTRL with Shift and D to load the default dictionary manager.

3. Tab to the tree view and press E for English.

4. Expand the English option by using right arrow key.

5. Use down arrow key and find the appropriate synthesizer. You can
also press E for Eloquence, V for ?Vocalizer, V until you find Vocalizer
Expressive, etc.

6. Use right arrow to open the appropriate synthesizer item.

7. Press a backslash key until you find a backslash followed by 011.
JAWS should tell you that this equals Vertical Tab.

8. Tab to the Change button and press spacebar.

9. In the Actual Word field should be the \011. Tab to the
Replacement Word field and press spacebar one time.

10. Tab to OK and use spacebar.

11. Use CTRL with S to save changes.

12. Close the window using Alt with F4.

13. You might or might not need to restart JAWS.
The above worked for me using a Vocalizer Expressive profile.
Take care.

Hi, Mike. The only thing I would add to this post is that if the value
beginning with the backslash is not in the default dictionary under english,
and under your particular synthesizer, you may need to press the Add button,
instead of the Change button, add the \011 value in the Real Word field,
then tab to the replacement field and type the space character as the
replacement word. The other steps are valid.

I have the same problem and same inadequate workaround. The ASCII code is
11, and so a search-and-replace for ^11 should do the job, but it doesn't.

How about verticle tabs and how you get rid of them when re-editting a

I been deleting them manually one at a time, I think I tried the control + H

Tom, I typically encounter this problem when the message consists of tables.
Regardless, my workaround is:

select and copy the entire message not with control-a,-but by placing focus
at the top of the message and pressing shift-control-end.
Paste the copied text into Notepad,
Select and copy that result with control-a, Paste the result into an empty
Word file.
Then I search for the passage I want and go from there.

If I paste from the email to Word, the confusing table format is retained.
As I write, I'm wondering if I've tried the control-alt-v paste special
method to paste as unformatted text. You might try that in order to skip the
Notepad step.

Hello, everyone.

Recently, I have been having problems with selecting, copying, and pasting
e-mail message content in Outlook 2016.

In many instances, the text I select does not correspond to what I later
copy and paste either into a word or notepad document.

I have tried routing the PC cursor to the Jaws cursor, but this does not
solve the issue.

The only way I can get the copied and pasted text to correspond to the
selected text is to select the text character by character, and then go
through the usual copy and paste process.

I believe this is a Jaws issue.

I'm using Windows 7 and Jaws 17 with Outlook 2016 here.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

No, that is for horizontally centering a line.

He got the reply earlier that to vertically center a page, you need to go to
the page layout area of MsWord.

Yes, you can [Tab] to several of the above mail app functions. Would be more

Also the spellcheck facility needs to be improved on greatly. This is one
accessibility thing I wish could be imported directly from the Outlook 2016

Something like playing a sound or saying “misspelled” when a spelling error is
found would be very helpful.

I’m using the latest build of JAWS v18 with Samantha Compact Vocalizer voice as

Hope the above helps someone.

After you hit the enter key to start a new line then just press the let

in the number you want and it will start numbering again every time you

David,

I have seen many responses to your earlier message and wanted to add my own.
Every time I have a Jaws issue, I try to find the answer here. This is a
good list and a very helpful one.

I'm sure that you are getting tired of it after all of these years but don't
give up on us, David. I, for one, need a resource for serious helpful
information about Jaws.

Finally, perhaps one explanation of why the list is quiet is that Jaws is
behaving itself for the most part. However, Jaws 18 is coming and if
Freedom runs true to form, there are bound to be glitches, bugs and errors
which will require correction. Hang in there, David.

Thanks, Justin. That does the trick. It does one more thing that I find
useful. When I escape out of the search results, focus is set at the message
in the regular message list that is the same message I had focus on in the
search results. This can be useful when you want to look at other messages
posted around that time even though they don't relate directly to your
search. I always figured the control-e search was identical to the
shift-control-f search, but no.

David,

This is the method I also use. There's one more point. After pressing
shift-control-f, you can type the word you're looking for in the subject
field (as you say) or tab to the edit boxes for the "from" and "to" fields.
What isn't obvious is that you can also type a term to search for in the
message field. the way I get there is as follows:

Shift-control-f
Tab once
Down arrow once
Shift-tab.
Now you're in the edit box for a message field search.

If you've found a simpler way, I'd be curious.

Sorry I can't give the keystrokes.
1. First launch any Office program such as Microsoft Word and then press

2. Now go to Options
3. open Options window. Now find on "Trust Center" tab given at the end in
left-side pane and then enter on "Trust Center Settings" button.
It'll open a new window to customize Trust Center settings.
4. Click on "Protected View" tab and in right-side pane, you'll find following
options ◦Enable Protected View for files originating from the Internet ◦Enable
Protected View for files that are located in potentially unsafe locations
◦Enable Protected View for Outlook attachments 5. All options are enabled by

Just paste the link of your youtube video in the edit field and shift tab once

they don’t seem to impose a limit on length of the video.

Justin, no criticism intended, and I worried about my post for that reason.
I did note your second post. I hate to admit it, but I've also posted errors
that other vigilant listers were good enough to catch. Promise, I'll do it
again, and then again. But I will try not to. I just thought it would help
in this case to ensure the right information appeared in a single post. JAWS
requires incredible attention to detail. This list is really good about
minimizing misinformation, which is almost always inadvertent.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Tables in MS Word 2013

Hi everyone,

I am using JAWS 16 with Windows 10 in my workplace. We have been given a
word document containing a single table for us to complete each month. When
I press Insert F1 to get the information about the table JAWS announces it
is a simple table with 7 columns and 45 rows.

The problem is that if I use table reading commands, either Control + Alt +
an arrow key or layered commands, JAWS seems to get stuck in certain
columns and won't move across the row. So, for example, I begin by moving
down the first column, no problems there. Then I decide I want to move
across a given row. When I press Control Alt right arrow JAWS announces that
I am at the end of the row. However, if I press TAB it moves me to the next
column. Again, if I try to move using my table commands I am told I am at
the end of the row. Press TAB and I am moved to the next column.

I am assuming this has something to do with the way the table has been set
up or formatted, I have never come across it anywhere but at work. Any
suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Kellie

Re: [JAWS-Users] Tables in MS Word 2013

If you want to at least be able to take the table and convert it to text, go
to the table layout, go to the data group box, then find convert to text
button. You can hit enter, then arrow down to when you hear - -. You can
type space and it will replace the table ones with spaces. The other soluton
would be to see if they'll give you the table in excel.
That is what I'd try.

Will that center it vertically? I thought that Control e was for horizontal
centering.

Does anyone know if that is a common occurrence with acrobat reader if you
have win ten and jaws 17? With jaws 16 and win 2007, alt tabbing away, could
also have acrobat reader crash the system from time to time.

Hi David,

Since I don't run Windows 10, I'm asking this for future reference. You
said to use the keystroke, Control + R, to open the Run Dialogue. Has the
Run Dialogue keystroke changed from, Windows key + R, to, Control + R, in
Windows 10?
Take care.

Hello;
To access the run command, just use the keystroke, ctrl+r=run,

Yes, you can use either,
Control userpasswords2 or, netplwiz in the run command dialog.
