Hi all,

This may be old news to everyone, but I haven't seen
anything (info) on the T-4XC 4PDT TR relay.

When I had the TX apart, I wrote down all the info from
the relay itself.

I was looking thru my Mouser catalog (#608)and found
an equiv. relay with just about the same part number...

My orig relay is PB R10-E1-Y4-V2.5K @ 48 VDC.
the one I found in the Mouser catalog is
   PB R10-E1X4 V2.5K @ 48 VDC.
Mouser # 655-R10-E1X4 V2.5K
 (4PDT 48V 5A Contacts) $15.30 ea.
Pin-out on both are exactly the same
This has probably been beat to death before, but allow
me one stupid question: Whats the difference between
the Y4 and X4? The only diff. I can see is the X4
has a 6-32 mounting stud on one end, in addition to the
3-48 stud on the bottom of the relay

If this is all useless info disregard it, I'm a bit slow at times.
But, I like to try to find equiv. parts for my older radios..

73 and sorry for the BW,
John K1RC

I'd vote for the B line as well. I've got the blank line, A, B and C line
on line, and am most fond of the B.

Regardless of the way you go, you'll not go too wrong!

better...the B line is complete as is..there are mods to improve audio and

I'm interested in adding Drake twins to my station and I was hoping the
List
here could point me in the right direction. I operate 70% CW and mostly do
weak signal work on 20M.

I'm thinking B line or C line but I don't know the merits of each. I'd
also
be interested in common mods and aftermarket enhancements that I've seen
mentioned here and in other classifieds.

What would be your ultimate Drake CW station?

[drakelist] T-4XB Tyco Filters

2003-09-21 Thread John

Anyone have an idea when Drake used USB and LSB crystal filters manufactured
by Tyco in the T-4XB transmitter (early/mid/late production)? (The two
T-4XB's I've owned up to this point have used CF International filters)

Thanks,

Hi Garey,

Thanks for the tip! I don't know the serial number of the rig the Tyco
filters came out of, but I'll see if I can obtain it. I purchased the
filters for a T-4XB that isn't acting like it should right now.

I don't know the answer to your specific question, but you
might compare your unit serial numbers to the Serial Number

 http://www89405.temp.w1.com/DrakeSerialDatabase.htm

You should be able to place them in the production.

Re: [drakelist] T-4XB Tyco Filters

2003-09-21 Thread John

Thanks Gary -

That makes sense!

My Tyco filters (no mention of C-F Networks) with a 1971 date code of 1971
came from T-4XB S/N 18237. The filters in my S/N 16,959 T-4XB are labeled
C-F Networks with no mention of Tyco (1969 date code).

I knew Tyco sounded familar to me. Aside from the T-R
 relay that is!

 I have a T-4XB with blue C-F Networks - div of Tyco
filters and a 17k serial number. So that puts it right
about in the middle of the run. A later B has Network
Sciences silver filters and a 19k serial number, or pretty
near the end of B production.

Guessing earlier units had C-F Networks filters before
Tyco bought them out. (Like they did Potter Brumfield and
a hundred or so other companies.!)

As Garey points out, it would certainly take away from its value.
It's easy to accomplish the same thing by making an adapter
with about 8 of wire, a female jack on one end, and a male on the other...
bring the connector out via this cable to a jack below the front panel.
RS has the female 1/4 jacks w/housing to do a neat job of this without
breaking out the (cringe) drill bits... :-)

the receiver, between the receiver and speaker, to try and

By the way, the front panel phone jack is not exactly
wonderful either, since you then have this long phone plug
backshell and cord sticking out between the AF Gain and
Function switch. This can be a problem, depending upon
whether you are right or left handed.

As for selling it, the value would depend upon whether the
prospective buyer wanted a receiver to use, or one to sit on

The two line is one of the most undervalued (this auction notwithstanding!)
rigs around. Triple conversion, variable passband tuning (B model)...
an outstanding CW receiver in a compact box. I've got representative
versions of the A , B and C editions, and the B is the cream of the crop.

 Hi Baz

Did the first 140 countries back in the late 60's to early 80's with home
brew receiver and filter type SSB rig with many long nights were spent
constructing, when a bunch of guys used to gather on 80m after tea at night
to help each other solve problems, about the time Warren Robinson was
constructing the WR300's (which I acquired one of in recent years). In
those days I used a 40m V beam at 50' east west beaming with open wire feed
line on all bands. But could never work an African ? Hence the Quad, a 2el
boomless tribander, described in May 1983 Break-In which was totally
rubbished by the ZL Antenna Intelligentsia in spite of still remains up
there 25 years later with only a rotator change and the addition last year
of elements for 17m. 1982 Gary ZL2SO picked up in the USA a pair of near
new Drake C Line twins for me for US$500 and they have not been out of
action for more than hour since. Four years ago I picked up the late
ZL2BT's L4B which I run in the tune position with a lot of ALC when
occasionally used. In the SSB position the shack lights blink but in a
pile up they seem to come back on the first call, can't understand it ?

2004-09-16 Thread john
Hi Bruce,

There's quite a bit of info on the web regarding this comparison (DRAKEmods,
on Thoms page is a good one). A lot of it runs to personal taste.

Unmodified, most folks prefer the B... and I think I'd agree.

On the other hand, I own several stations of each of the A B and C lines
and they all are darned fine radios. Regardless of which you pick, they're
all going to provide lots of fun.

Welcome to the list!

I find the 2B a better receiver, though both are darned good.
I think the filters in the 2B and the passband tuning put it

[drakelist] Advice sought in troubleshooting L7

2005-03-06 Thread john

john [EMAIL PROTECTED] made an utterence to the drakelist gang
--
I'm just firing up a long dormant (and nearly new ) L7 for the first
time. I purchased it from the original owner who said it was used
only 6 hours before his condo neighbors complained about the TVI
and he put it in the box, which is where it was when I bought it a few
months ago.

I formed all the caps in the supply (most were quite good yet), and
installed the tubes in the sockets. I had the unit in CW mode, per
the manual, and fired it up for the first time. I can hear the fan and
there was no smoke, but the plate voltage sits at only 1500V and
begins to drop after about 5 seconds. I've turned it OFF again, after
no longer than about 10 seconds, as the reading (no load, not in
transmit) seems way low. There does not appear to be any plate
current flowing during this time.

How to proceed in trouble shooting?

Restart, without tubes in sockets?

I'm afraid to leave it on longer, for fear it'll toast something.
There's no unusual smells, noises, etc.

All hints appreciated.

The Drake R-4(a/b/c) seems universally regarded as a file
receiver. It seems bets regarded by CW and SSB users, and
less so by AM users. At 4.8kHz max IF bandwidth it is usable
for AM, but does not seem to lend itself to current practices
 of AM users.

This is not true of the R-4C. It uses crystal filters in the 2nd IF, and is
not an L/C filtered radio like the 4/a/b. A 6 Khz filter is available as a
standard item. The C radio isn't a bad AM reciever. The others aren't

Van,

I don't belive there is any service manuals for most of the Drake radios.
I realy like Drake radios, use B twins regularly, however, their manuals
are the worst. Try to find parts in the chassis from the pictures
supplied. They only point out tubes and maybe a couple of transformers.

It you are talking about the pointer on the pass band, it (carefully)
pulls straight off. I havn't worked on a 2B for a couple of years, but I

I'm beginning to think there isn't a service manual, Only the Drake
Instruction Book commonly referred to as the Owners Manual. There are
alignment procedures in there for the radio. There are specific
warnings on adjusting the Passband Tuner - Selector adjustments. The
manual is on BAMA and Link was sent to me by another person on here.
I'm unable to find anything regarding front panel removal. I have all
the knobs off, but can get the Passband Selector indicator off.

Thanks for all the replies.

Here is a bit more information.
Cable is labeled CZ connector and cable micro 8U. It was bought a Dayton
many years ago. It is used around the shack for jumpers.

The sticky stuff is most likely plasticizer. It has not caused the
center dielectric to change that I can tell. It is however a pain because
I can not get it clean enough to get a good solder.

Since there seems to be no black, I am guessing it is not normal
contamination. It may have caused issues with the cable, but I will have
to figure a way to test it. Ideas on testing solicited.

For testing, I have an MFJ antenna analyzer, Transmitters, watt meter, DVM
and freq counter. Not the best selection of test equipment, but along
with a R10 receiver, normally enough to get me by. I am thinking of
testing power loss on 10 meters as a potential test of the coax?

Last month at our clubs monthly breakfast the ham sitting next to me
asked if I knew anyone interested in a Drake 6 Meter radio. I told him I
was and that I had been looking for one for some time that I could
afford. He said that he had one that he bought a while back and had
never even tried out and that it was in storage. I asked how much he
wanted for it and he said I could have it for what he had paid for it,
$50.00. He said he just wanted to get rid of it because he had too much
stuff in paid storage. I of course told him I would buy it even though I
had not seen it. Well today we went over to his storage unit and I
loaded it into my car and gave him the $50 for the rig. I had originally
thought I was only buying a TR-6, nothing else. I haven't tested it out
yet but here is what I got for the $50. The TR-6 in very good physical
and cosmetic condition sn.#570 with the noise blanker.
The RV-6 in very good physical and cosmetic condition sn.#065 with the
AC-3 power supply. The original Drake manual for the TR-6 with the
purchase date of Oct. 18, 1974 and the serial number written inside the
front cover. I don't have a lot of money and can't compete with the guys
that can just write a check for just about anything they want.
Sometimes we just get lucky. I just wanted to share my joy with the rest
of the group. This will pretty much complete the major Drake items I
wanted for my Drake station and will compliment my R-4C, T-4XC, R-4B, and
AC-4. The only other semi-major item I need is the noise blanker for my
R-4C. I am hoping I can locate one this next year.

I wish everyone a happy and prosperous new year.

I agree. I have had only two very bad tranactions (out of about 600+ ).

One I made sure PayPal repaid me per their agreement (they did)

The other ...I spoke to a very helpful detective, who made a personal visit
to the scammer, told him he had a choice (make good on Ebay transaction, or
get served) resulting in my goods being shipped the next day (after 4
weeks incommuncado).

It works if you make it work ...like most things in life.

A good example is car collecting. Older (model T/A ) cars have dropped in

And for good measure, asked about passband tuning.

When the spokesman for the company never answered, I sent a copy of the

Funny thing, no answer...so I can only assume, since the message to the

Hi Thom,

We'll agree to disagree on this one. Elecraft is a fine outfit... given
that there appears to be mail flying off their keyboards over at the
Elecraft list, Im not sure what the issue is with your question.

All I know, is that I like most other Elecraft owner/builders have great
luck with them regarding any kind of product support. Cant find a part? An
email sends it on the way free. Dont understand a part of the manual? Gary
Surrency beams you an answer (or Don Wilhelm does via the list). I built
numerous Heathkits, and Elecraft support is faster and more complete than
Heaths (and I *really* liked Heathkit).

Sowhat the heck did you ask, anyway? :-)

A really top knotch outfit answers correspendence.

Since Elecraft has not done either of the above, I can assume that they

[drakelist] Drake amp conversion....

2007-06-10 Thread john

john [EMAIL PROTECTED] made an utterance to the drakelist gang
--
I may not be fast, but I'm stubborn. I just finished an amp conversion
...which really was more like use the variable caps, meter , transformer
and case, and trash the rest. The patient in question was a $40 junker
GSB1000 Dentron amp. These were sweep tube jobs that weren't that great to
start with, and this one had been scrapped , taken apart and put in a
box. The good news was, the bits I needed (case, transformer, meter,
variable caps) were all good.

I added a tuned input circuit built on FAR circuits boards, rewound a new
tank coil, since anode Z of the replcement tube (a Russian GI7B ceramic
triode) operates at 2X the voltage of the original sweepers, built a
voltage doubler, built an air chamber to provide forced air cooling of
the PA tube, added a power sequencing circuit (again , a FAR circuit board
) using a 555 and a small DIP relay, and built and painted a new panel out
of .050 aluminum sheet.

The GI7B is good for 500W out, and this will do it, with just 40 watts in,
so perhaps my plan for using this on the output of my T4X is not a good
one! The GI7B is a bargin...less than $25 for a 500W out tube.

In any event, I've uploaded pix here:

http://old-radios.com/Temporary/amp2.jpg
http://old-radios.com/Temporary/amp1.jpg

if anyone's interested. The indicated voltage is V/2 .

I learned a lot, and didnt kill myself! Two important outcomes!

A couple questions come to mind: is this still the preferred way to do
this or is there a better way to run AM on the T-4, and I suppose the
obvious question is this even possible on the T-4 (i.e., should I perform
this on my T-4XB instead). I really don't want to cut around on my T-4XB
and the T-4 is primarily a CW rig for me so a little modification on it
doesn't bother me.

And the final question is how does one tune the unmodified transmitter for
optimum AM operation? The last time I tried it I was able to reach peaks
of nearly 100W output but that doesn't seem realistic (guessing I had a
lot of flat-topping).

The 6GJ5's will work fine on 10M. Try and get Sylvania, Zenith, RCA or GE

Check the meter resistor, and also check the screen and cathode resistors

Yes, that would be CR5. It is a Germanium diode (1N270), which is
difficult to find these days. A Schottky such as 1N5711 should work ok if
it is bad.

You should have ~ 1 - 1.5V p-p at the INJ jack, and ~ 3.5V p-p at the
collector of the Band Oscillator.

were a number of rice boxes (IC-726, TS-450S and DX-70TH).

The previous owner was a smoker and the radios all smell of such. Some

The question is.any idea on how to clean this stuff? The smell of

For covers, etc., just put it on and rub in with your fingers, then rinse
off. Where you don't want water, just wipe off with soft rags, Q-Tips,
whatever to get into the tight places.

Interiors often respond to storage with clothes dryer softener sheet(s)

Hi
I am new to the list and making a rusty 2B
presentable as my boatanchor receiver.

The chrome rings on all knobs were really rusty.
Replaced the DC filter caps
Replaced 4 of the 6 paper capacitors
Repaired rust on the case and front panel
Chassis is almost entirely oxidized and pitted.

Had the radio playing absolutely super last night but
this morning heard a loud buzz (not exactly a hum).
Will see if works OK tonight.

And someone must have banged the receiver down on the
main tuning knob which bent the tuning shaft a bit.
The dial cord slips in one spot as the knob is turned.
 Not serious but annoying.

The set now looks OK and performs (at least it did
last
night :-) wonderful !

If anyone is interested in a quick rusty ring knob
repair and what I used to lube the moving parts,
and how I repaired rust that formed from past 20
years in a damp basement, let me know and I
will post something.

The radio does not look absolutely original,
but I really enjoy looking at it and listening
to it.

If the chassis were not completely pitted I would
meticulously restore it. But it is a rescued radio,
not restored 2B, but a user and a keeper.

Never thought it would look as good as it does.

Hi Jim,

All sounds good! I always advise against cleaning screened dial glass (for

match for the cabinet.

White rubbing compound or turtle wax does a nice job on hardware heads AND
knobs / trim rings and the ivory dial backgroundand cabinets!
Essential stuff. I've got some polish... Finish re-nu thats like a finer
white compound in liquid suspension that I use on lots of things from

2B slide switches are perpetually bad...de-oxit from the back (at least

They're great little radios!

Hi John - K5MO,  and John, W1JA;

Nice to hear from you... Turned on Tubie (My name for
the 2B) and it worked fine tonight. Here at the
cottage, am surrounded by HV AC wiring which is
sometimes very noisy. Wonder if the AC line is used
for other things besides power (BPL) ?

I am staying at a beach cottage and my fun project has
been the 2B and a TS-430S and I must say that the 2B
is a lot more fun to fix.

Don't know where to start...

Let everything dry well between stages (hair dryer OK)

For the the front panel, remove it, wash gently with
soap and water, rinse and dry.
sand rust carefully to get rid of loose rust.
Apply Rust Converter from Walmart.
Converts rust to a black, paintable, sandable primer.
Fill in the pits with Bondo Glazing Putty (Walmart)
and sand. Repeat till smooth.
Mask then spray with Krylon semi-flat #1613, and/or
apply with q-tip or toothpick.
(I used flat black and it is not a very perfect match)

*IMPORTANT: Lettering on rear of glass faceplate
is protected with clear spray that
will cloud up if you disturb it.
CLEAN CAREFULLY ! WARM WATER ONLY
AND DO NOT RUB. I found that out :-(

Front panel screws: Sand, pick out rust, and paint.
Punch holes in bottom
of yogurt cup and stick screws in to paint. Glossy
black #1601 really looks good
on screws.

I had to sand and use concentrater on bottom front,
sides and back of chassis.
I then painted halfway up the rear of the chassis.
Looks kinda macho, and
better than rust. Replace all rusty screws and RF
connector with shiny ones.

Case..I had to straighten front edge with a big C
clamp.
Will have to re-touch up case again with
semi-flat this time :-(
Q-tips were used and If it comes out looking
worse than the panel,
will repaint it. It looks easy - no lettering
:-)

Knobs: Soak over night in Fantastic.
Scrape rust with a small screwdriver.
Apply Rust Converter with a toothpick.
Purch. chrome washers, metric size cost more but look
better.
(ACE Hardware around here, bring knob with you and
pick a good size)
Washers are twice the width of chrome ring but look
100% better than rust.
Super glue washers to knob. Center carefully.

Red fingernail polish spruced up the little plastic
faceplate do-hicky.

Dial backround: Walmart Krylon Satin Touch #3510
Ivory Satin.
Flip the dial pointer up and out of the way.
Wash, Lightly sand, wash again, mask carefully and
spray the visible section.
Looks spectacular and matches the meter almost
perfectly.

Lubricate moving parts with (expensive) Tri-Flow
teflon Superior Lubricant.
Liquid dries up leaving a teflon coating on bearings.

Buy replacement Capacitors from Unique Radio Parts,
LLC...Look it up on Google.
Save the old Capacitor can. You might want to cut it
to replace caps on a
mint 2B.

I think that is it.

Let me know what you think.
Hard to make a silk purse from a sow's ear
but fun (and only about $90 worth of stuff) to make
the 2B presentable
and worthy of a spot on your bench or in your mind.

I will be on the lookout to upgrade mine if a better
one magically appears.

[I posted on this a while back but am just getting around to it.]

My T-4XC has been intermittently hanging in transmit mode on CW.
Everything runs along fine but periodically when I stop sending the
transmitter doesn't seem to drop out of TX mode and normal bias current
is registered on the TX meter. During these episodes there is no RF
output (unless I hit the key again then I get normal RF out).

If I then send a long string of dits when I stop the T/R function
usually resumes normal operation - for a while.

Today I pulled the AC-4 out of the MS-4 and measured the various
voltages:

High B+ 683 VDC with 0.4 VAC ripple
Low B+ 278 VDC with 0.12 VAC ripple
Bias-59.5 VDC with 0.022 VAC ripple

Which all seem a bit high but mostly nominal. The bias range is from
-45 to -95. The ripple figures are peak to peak as measured on my
'scope. I poked around underneath the AC-4 and I don't see anything
that looks 'wrong'.

I was able to reproduce this problem this morning but I am unable to
reproduce the problem now that I've fooled around with the AC-4.

For the life of me, it *feels* like the T/R relay is simply hanging up
when transitioning from transmit to receive. But, I'd rather develop a
theory based on something other than what I *feel*..

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I oughta be looking at?

Tnx and 73,

The 6GJ5 is the ONE substitute that I have found to work just fine in all
the four series transmitters. It is an _identical_ tube to the 6JB6
with the single exception of the suppressor grid being tied internally to
the cathode in the GJ, while the suppressor grid is brought out to Pin 8
in the JB. Pin 8 is hardwired to ground in all the Drake transmitters,
while the cathode is at RF ground and DC ground via the 2 ohm meter shunt
resistor. Since the Drake transmitters are Class AB1, grounded cathode
finals, there is absolutely no effect on operation of the final
stages. The same caveats about brands apply, i.e., some brands will NOT
neutralize without modification, but otherwise the GJ works just fine.

The TR4 having 6GJ5 transmit tubes could be your first real
problem. The transceiver uses the 6JB6 tube for final tubes, or the 12
volt version in the very old TR4's and TR3's. There is a tendency
because of cost and availability to use like replacement tubes, but doing
so brings other problems to the table. I have experimented with
several so-called 6JB6 replacement tubes, and have found there are no
replacement tubes.Granted some substitutes work better than others
but none performed well across all the bands as compared to using the
6JB6 tube.

Many of the side effects of using substitute tubes include erratic
tuning, max output not at resonant plate current dip, neutralization
issues on the higher bands, filament string current unbalance, and the
list goes on and on.The bottom line the substitute tubes will give
you problems, and typically they get worse the higher in frequency you go.

If your pulling out your hair fighting a problem like this, just make
sure the problem is not being generated by using the wrong tube.

Did get to the problem, my procedures and the antenna relay.

Two clean out rounds later with the antenna relay got it (it had
already had one) ...had to do a bit of tweaking too. Open frame,
little plastic cover that clips on RF choke in the way, and I
noted it needed a new SO239 so it got a lot of things done.

Right now output is about 120 W but I am probably doing it
wrong. Gotta find a local Elmer with Drake experience to go
through the tune up procedures with me..until I can get it
correct.Beverages offered

Yep, I've seen that guy too. Some people will stoop so low as to pimp
working radios just for a buck. Sad, but there's always folks who take a
mercenary approach.

The best bet is to not buy from the guy, and hope he stews in a sea of
chopped up radios.

Hi Kevin and Howard,

Yes, you're right Kevin, about the multiple purchases from the same buyer and
its effect on Ebay feedback.

Howard, I think you'll find that most folks on this list (like in any
population) enjoy Ebay, although like any form of sales, it has its plusses and
minuses!

 Howard,

I think that you will find that where a buyer makes multiple purchases
from the same seller, only one feedback from that buyer gets counted in
the total feedback score. So a buyer may have had 8000 sales from
customers who gave positive feedback, but if some customers made
multiple purchases so that there were only 5000 individual customers
then, assuming no negative or neutral feedback, the maximum score would
 be 5000.

I am watching a Drake AC-4 being sold by Radio Mart (whom you have
  mentioned
before). After his name, I see the number
  5909

  then it says
Feedback score is 5,000 to 9,999)
This would indicate to me that his rating is very low in that range. But
  then it says
  Member is a PowerSeller
  Feedback:
  97.6% Positive

'tseems to me that in a range (rough) of 5000 to 1, 6000 would be about
  20%. but if they say 97%, ???

I'm looking for an AC-4, so I would bid on this thing; but reading stuff

Can somebody suggest what I should think?

What I found taught me a lesson and has me confused. After rechecking the
PS, and reconnecting to the TR4C, I realized I hadn't tried bias
adjustment on anywhere other than 20m. The bias acts normally on all
other bands, but on 14Mhz, the bias won't go below .25 amp, the rf tune
control has no effect on output, the plate current won't dip, and when the
mode switch is ccw, as on LSB, the PA output is still high. This has me
totally confused. The rig acts correctly on all other bandseven gives
me 140 watts on 28Mhz. Any ideas?

OK. The specified load for the Bias supply is ~ 30k, so a load of this
value would emulate the load of the transceiver.

The bias goes to the PA via the _middle_ feedthrough on the side of the
PA shield under the chassis. These feedthroughs are fragile and easily
cracked if too much force is applied to the terminals. The other
points in the transceiver that are tied to the Bias supply are all very
high impedance, so a short on one of those is unlikely to cause as big a
difference as you are seeing.

Another unlikely fault would be a Grid-Cathode short in one of the
final tubes.

I measured the bias while disconnected from the transceiver, and when
swinging the pot from stop to stop it seemed to vary the minus voltage
linearly with no spikes, but of course the Fluke may dampen such a spike
if it's a fast one. I'm thinking it may be one of the two resistors
opening up under heat or current (6.8K and 10K). The pot measures
correct resistance from one end to the other. When connected to the rig
the current was either very low or very high, but when disconnected, the
voltage seems vernier as it should. I thought that -52 volts or so may
be too high a bias voltage, especially if that's as low as it will go.
Thanks for you continued help.

I just re-read your message..

If the IDLE current is either Zero or 0.4A, with little adjustment, I'd
suspect the potentiometer has a break or bad spot on the resistive element.

That behavior indicates that the Bias voltage is either some high
value, such as 70-80 Negative volts, cutting the final tubes off
completely, or somewhere around 30-40 Negative volts, allowing some 400
ma of idle current, depending upon which side of the break the wiper is on.

Maybe you guys can direct me a little. My AC3 has been showing signs
of bad caps, especially in the bias section ( one of the bias caps
measured at 700MFD). I replaced all the caps in all sections, using
33MFD 160 volt caps in the bias section, and while I was there did the
diodes. After reassembly the bias was adjustable from 41 or so to 80
volts. TR-4C was running well. Today after operating for an hour or
so, the transmitter started to show very high plate current, so I
checked the bias and found that it was either zero or above .4 amps,
without much adjustment between the two, and of course when higher the
xmit relay was engaging. Reducing xmit gain would not reduce the
plate current. I measured the voltage at the plug and the bias is now
only adjustable from 52 to 94 volts, which I think is too
high. There's not much else to replace in the AC3 except the bias pot
and two resistors, both of which measure within tolerance
statically. Any thoughts?
