Mountain Lion and banking
I have done a clean install of Mountain Lion. Sadly, I no longer seem to be able to access my bank account on line. Of course, Java is used to give a secure connection. I used to get a log in page where I entered my password etc. Now, there is nothing. Has anyone else experienced such a problem, and, if so, is there a way around it. apple TV and iTunes?
Okay, 1 of the reasons I shied away from apple TV before because I was told that everything had to go through iTunes. That you couldn't stream content from NAS servers. So how do I point my apple TV to my iTunes library? I've spent the last 2 days importing everything media in to iTunes, in anticipation of my apple TV arrival, and want to make sure I know how to set this thing up. Thanks. For all Uk members Lloyds Tsb app
Hello all Uk members. Yesterday I downloaded the app for my bank, Lloyds Tsb, onto my iPhone 4. It is very accessible and allows me to for example review my accounts, transfer money from one account to another, etc etc. I should say you do need to be a registered internet banking member in order to use this app since you need to log in with your information. But it's certainly very handy and saves going onto my banking website on my Pc or mac. The app is free and can be found in the Apps store. Search for Lloyds Tsb. mac commands for the rsgames client.
Can anyone give me a list for these? I looked for them in the documentation, and can't seem to find them anywhere, and the ones I did find, for the most part, aren't working. I can't get the chat commands to do anything, which is frustrating if someone types me a message and probably thinks I'm ignoring them. So if someone could please give me some more info on these, or where to find it I'd really love it, sense I enjoy playing these from time to time. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. Drag and Drop into tables
Hello everyone, I have somewhat of a frustrating issue when attempting to drag and drop into tables of various programs or locations. First, I highlight the items I want to move, then press the mouse-down feature. Then I mark the set of selected items for dragging. Next, I go to the table I want to move the items to and hit the mouse-up release feature. This has worked in the past, but generally it takes a couple of passes before it works. It is slightly frustrating because the process is not definite upon the first attempt. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I am not doing correctly? P.S. The tables in this case are generally within different programs for batch conversion. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. Re: apple TV?
If I would have known what I know now, I would have had my fiancé purchase us the second-generation. I am into modifying my Apple devices, such as the iPhone, Apple TV, et cetera. And as of the time of this writing, there is not a stable release of the jailbreak for the AppleTV three. So, as I stated previously, if it was up to me we would have gotten the second addition, as there is a stable jailbreak for that one as well. Additionally, on Black Friday at Best Buy, the price difference was only $10 between the second addition, and third edition. Therefore, I advised her to get the most recent one. I don't know what the price difference is on mine, but as you were previously advised the only big difference is the 1080 P HD video debt upgrade. Re: please can some one recommend an accessible alternative to iTunes that will allow me to mannege my current iTunes libary and iPod?
That is because your tracks are not correctly identified as far as iTunes is concerned. Yu can fix this by doing cmd-i in iTunes on each track and changing the track number but if you have a lot of misidentified or not-identified albums like I do, that is easier said than done. I think I would wholeheartedly love iTunes had I been able to predict the future and waited a few years to rip all my albums and give away the originals. If track order is your only problem, there might be a program or script out there that could redo them if you put them in the right order. -- Cheryl May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to You, Lord, my rock and my Redeemer. Prior to updating to Mountain Lion, I had no difficulties with banking. Now I cannot do it on my Mac, despite following some suggestions with respect to Java. Re: Mountain Lion and banking
My bank is glacier Bank, a small bank in Montana. However, glacier Bank web banking utilizes a popular outsourced web banking software, called net teller. This system utilizes job in order to successfully authenticate users. To be honest with you, I Jennettes have to do anything special in order to use it. It just worked on ML. Additionally, they have a application for the iPhone that I use at least once or twice a day. And finally, I utilize the pausing function in the iPhone contacts In order to enter my banks phone banking phone number, my account number, and my pin number all with one press of a contact. Obviously, with an obscure name of that only I and my fiancé know, so no one goes to try to find my banking information. However, this way is very insecure, and they do not suggest it for most individuals. You can now call toll-free: 855-898-2582, extension 7301 To reach me. Re: please can some one recommend an accessible alternative to iTunes that will allow me to mannege my current iTunes libary and iPod?
Hi all. Kim: I'll have to look into syncing iCloud with my documents, I have Pages for iOS, but not the Mac. I'm quite new to the Mac world, so I'm still trying to get on my feet from that perspective. I love how you can use braille displays to essentially control the entire computer, without ever having to lay a finger on the keyboard. I use iTunes because I must. As for me being an Apple hater, well, I would think that someone who owns an iPod, iPhone, and a Macbook Air would be far from an Apple hater, but what do I know? LOL. I'm simply voicing my frustrations with iTunes, and trying to help clerify why some people wish to have alternatives to this software. Am I an iTunes hater? For sure. Am I an Apple hater? Absolutely not. I like some things they do and not others, just like with any other company. I suppose there are some companies I could be labeled as a hater of, FS and HW spring to mind, but I digress. (smiles). Scott On 12/12/12, Cheryl Homiak cahom...@gmail.com wrote: That is because your tracks are not correctly identified as far as iTunes is concerned. I understand that iTunes is suppose to make it easy to organize your library. I agree, if the library is 5000 songs. But if I just want to add 1 song to my iPhone, I have to go through the lengthy process of adding it to iTunes, then sync it with my iPhone, and then wait 5 minutes while iTunes checks everything else. But for the moment, I will continue using it until something better comes along. On Dec 11, 2012, at 4:29 PM, Pete Nalda lpna...@gmail.com wrote: I don't think this question was all that bad. I want more of my music library on my iPhone 4, and the iPhone 5 is not on any prepaid carrier, and the sim card is a different size, so I can't even buy an unlocked 5 and put it on my carrier. This doesn't mean I hate Apple myself, only that I'm wondering about the way things are headed. Also, they only give you the option to switch iTunes to classic mode at installation, so there's no switching once you've chosen unless you do some sort of hack. Apple isn't always right in its' decision making. Don't even get me started on the Maps ordeal on iOS. Hi Martin. I have had exactly the same issue, and I have fighted a big war to get this fixed, and I hate Java for doing that. I have wann the war which makes me happy, but we'll fase big issues in the future, if Java still won't care about accessibility. I am so tired to fight that accessibility war each time Java updates their app, and for me, I just want a system to access my bank which just works. I don't wanna sit there in more than 5 hours, trying to find a solution to access my bank, but Java want us to do so. :) Java has simply chosen, once again, to not care about accessibility. Apple has stopped working with Java, so therefore we have this issue now. For those who don't have any issues at the moment, I can tell you that you'll get the same issue when you update to the newest Java version. Re: EBook reader for Mac?
Adobe Digital Editions works on the Mac but it still doesn't automatically scroll pages which does slow things down some. If one really hates that, it is possible to copy and paste each page into an editor like Text Edit and then either turn it into audio or read with the editor. Just remember that to copy from Digital editions you have to use the copy phrase (vo-shift-c) instead of the usual copy command. Admitedly this is also time-consuming but does work. -- Cheryl May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to You, Lord, my rock and my Redeemer. Hello Brianna, Adobe Digital Editions works for reading ebooks, but not iBooks, on the Mac. As far as I know, there is no way of reading iBooks on anything but an idevice. Adobe Digital Editions can read quite a number of DRM protected formats including Kobo and Nook. Re: EBook reader for Mac?
Yes, this is correct; I apologize if you were asking about iBooks. IBooks with an i and ebooks with an e don't sound the same on my computer but the one with an i does sound like ebooks with an e should sound. Guess i'll have to fix that in pronunciation. -- Cheryl May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to You, Lord, my rock and my Redeemer. If people are having trouble getting the game to work, then I'm glad I didn't waste money. Re: Drag and Drop into tables
It seems like you're doing an extra, and unrelated step. You say you highlight the items which I assume means you select them. Then you say you do the mouse down - okay so far. Then you say you mark the items for dragging. This is where I think you're doing something wrong. Pressing VO comma will mark an item, or possibly multiple items I suppose for dragging. It's an extra step because you've already decided to use the mouse up/down keystrokes for dragging. So, when you arrive at the drop location, either do a mouse up, or a VO period to do the drop, but don't mix up the two. That is, either drag and drop using the VO comma and VO period method, or use the mouse up/down method. For that matter, you could probably use the good old cut and paste method. I'd say then, either eliminate the VO comma step and, or eliminate the mouse down/up keystrokes and do a VO period at the drop location. I've found that if one method of moving items doesn't work, then one of the other two will. And, if none of them work, then the software is crap and I don't use it. Hope this makes sense - Original Message - From: Emilio Hernandez emilio.s.hernan...@gmail.com To: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com Sent: Wednesday, December 12, 2012 9:30 AM Subject: Drag and Drop into tables Hello everyone, I have somewhat of a frustrating issue when attempting to drag and drop into tables of various programs or locations. P.S. Re: Changereaction: A new game from Draconess intertainment for blind in the Mac app store
The alert letting you know that this is an audio game, etc, only appears the first time you launch the game. it is possible that VoiceOver did not correctly put focus on the initial dialog box. If this is the case, one of the following may fix the problem for you: • Command-tab into the ChangeReaction app • Use VO-F1 twice to bring up the list of apps, and choose the alert dialog window from the ChangeReaction app • If the ChangeReaction app itself has focus, use VO-F2 twice to bring up the list of menus and choose the dialog box window, which is called Open Your Ears. Applications are tested very rigorously by Apple, and they will not accept non-working apps into the App Store. The Learn to Play option from the main menu will teach you how to play the currently selected game. We recommend that if you are not already familiar with ChangeReaction from the Windows days, and it is probably a good idea even if you are. Stacey, If you continue to have problems, you may wish to delete the app and re-download it from the App Store. Perhaps your download was corrupted. Before doing that, however, we do recommend trying the solutions outlined in my previous email. The game does not download any extra components. It is entirely self-contained. I am not having any issues here with it. I'd like to make a friendly suggestion. Instead of looking for refunds right away and such, please wait until things get sorted. It is a great game and worth the money. Like anything else new, there are sometimes problems and issues that were unforeseen. I am sure that whatever problems may exist will be addressed by Draconis Entertainment. I've seen this sort of thing happen with several apps, and there is nothing like rumors quickly being spread like wildfire through the blindness community that an app doesn't work or is not worth the purchase. Re: Changereaction: A new game from Draconess intertainment for blind in the Mac app store
One other thing to keep in mind is that, if you do not have a system voice set, or if you have system speech turned off for whatever reason, you may not hear anything, and the app will launch in the background. It just occurred to me that this might be the problem with thinking it's not open. In my case, it just took a while to gather itself. • Mark BurningHawk Baxter • AIM, Skype and Twitter: BurningHawk1969 • MSN: burninghawk1...@hotmail.com • My home page: • http://MarkBurningHawk.net/ -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. Josh, I'm finding it hard to believe that that app is self-contained in a 5MB download. The audio must be incredibly, incredibly horrible if that's the case. Re: Changereaction: A new game from Draconess intertainment for blind in the Mac app store
Audio's excellent, and if the Draconis game engine hype is to believed, the engine itself will allow audio game play for other games. *I* personally want to see a first person shooter like AudioQuake for Windows, because I can tell you from PAINFUL experience that the AudioQuake for Mac client sucks donkey bum vigorously. But with 130K lines of code, 5MB is just NOT enough. The audio is at least on par with all of our old games. Technology has come a long way int he last ten years, and it is not necessary for audio games to be huge anymore. You can hear a sample of the game audio here: http://dracoent.com/audio/trailers/CRTrailer.mp3 It is very possible to use compressed audio that decompresses on demand these days for desktop machines. iOS devices are another matter, as they aren't quite powerful enough for that yet. I thought Chrome auto updated and kept up with the latest version? Is there something I can do to get this update going? Re: EBook reader for Mac?
Hi, all, Stanza seems to have reappeared on CNET. Here's a link: http://download.cnet.com/Stanza/3000-2056_4-198177.html The first heading on the page is Stanza for Mac. VO-right once, and the download link will appear. It says download now secure download. Stanza won't display Nook books, but Adobe Digital Editions will. You can't review by word or character in it, and Braille doesn't display properly, but it is possible to read Nook books this way. Digital Editions is free. Here's a link: http://download.adobe.com/pub/adobe/digitaleditions/ADE_2.0_Installer.dmg With Nook, you have to register Adobe Editions to open the book. Once you open it, you may be asked for your username and pin. In most cases this is your full name and credit card you use on the Barnes and Noble Nook site. Also, you only have to authorize once, upon opening your first Nook book in ADE. HtH, Teresa Visualize whirled peas. Yes, that makes it 64 bit. Email me at overl...@lioncourt.com, and please send the text of the error message you are getting. Re: please can some one recommend an accessible alternative to iTunes that will allow me to mannege my current iTunes libary and iPod?
Scott, I hope that you realize that the Apple Hater comment was not from me nor any part of my responses to you. My intent was to understand where you were coming from with your iTunes frustrations and to provide any assistance and/or clarifications that could help you with the use of iTunes. Good luck with everything and don't be afraid to keep sending any questions to us here on the list. There's always someone who can help in some way. Later... Well, I am the only blind one in the house. So I'm sure my sited family will enjoy the 1080P. Since we have been using a set top box that already provided it, and connects to our NAS. I just got the apple tv for the accessibility. So what does jail breaking apple tv give you? So, as I stated previously, if it was up to me we would have gotten the second addition, as there is a stable jailbreak for that one as well. Additionally, on Black Friday at Best Buy, the price difference was only $10 between the second addition, and third edition. Therefore, I advised her to get the most recent one. I don't know what the price difference is on mine, but as you were previously advised the only big difference is the 1080 P HD video debt upgrade. Re: Changereaction: A new game from Draconess intertainment for blind in the Mac app store
Hi. Wow, what a huge topic I made just before I went out from my house just a few hours ago. :) Regarding people who can't get this game to work, you should check what system voice you're using. If you use a big voice which use lots of resources, it might not work. And, if you use a system voice which isn't english, it might not work as well. I haven't tried that, so I can't make sure yet. Just something which came to mind. I didn't had time to play the game before I went out, but I opened up the game and read the tutorial. I had some issues on turning off VOiceover after I launched the game, because the system voice took over so Voiceover was kind of crashed. That got fixed after the system voice has stopped reading, and it all worked fine for me. I bought it many years ago then I was a kid. That might be a year after it got released. I bought a game pack from ESP Softworks which included Monkey bisness, ESP Pinball and Changereaction. My english was really not that good this time, so I never understood the rules in change reaction. I still don't fully understand it as I write this, but I'm sure I'll do after I've tried the game a few times. There is just one thing which confuses me: Where are the details of the other game modes mentioned? If they are mentioned in the tutorial, I just read too fast. :) Anyways, thanks for a nice game guys. I've looked so much forward to this moment, and I'm sure next year will be the gaming year for the blind community. Keep up the awesome work, and if you need more beta testers, I'm very interested. I'm very active on the Audio games forum, and I've played most audio games which has ever been released. Keep up the good work. that'll open up to a new world for many gamers. iBooks on the mac (was EBook reader for Mac?)
I once read an article that put forth a theory for this. Consider that a great deal of Apple's iBooks are textbooks, and that people who read books (text or not) often do it while out and about, or on the couch, or at the table, or other places that aren't in front of their computers. Now consider what they will buy to do all this mobile and classroom reading: iOS devices. So, Apple would not want to lose part of their reading market to macbooks when people will go out and pick up an iPod or iPad to do their reading, selling more mobile devices. I'm not saying I agree with the idea, but that's how it was explained, and I suppose it does make a kind of sense. Yes, you have a 64-bit Mac. If you are running Lion or Mountain Lion, this isn't even a problem you need to worry about, because those versions of the OS only run on 64 bit. For those interested, we've gotten the error report from Stacey, tracked down the problem which only occurs on some older Macs running Snow Leopard, and are in the process of preparing an update to submit to Apple. Hi Josh. I'm sorry if I've missed anything, but I can't find any descriptions of the different game modes in the tutorial. I only find the objective of the classic mode. I had never heard of it for windows, but I just got it for my mac today, and it's very interesting. I'm still not sure I understand it completely, but I see potential for it to become a very adictive game. Not quite as fun for me as Super Egg hunt, but then again, I've only had it for a few hours. It seems to work very well on my mac, provided that I use Alex or one of the Nuance voices as my system voice. It doesn't seem to work at all with my acapella voices, but I don't blaim the game for that; the acapella voices have been behaving very oddly since the last update. If I didn't have so much money invested in them, I'd just uninstall them altogether as I tend to use Alex most of the time anyway. My point is, the game is very interesting, and if you can afford it, I'd say it's definitely worth checking out. I found this article to be a very interesting read. It makes you wonder what could happen with the future of the household appliance. How far in depth does Apple want to become involved with our at-home lives? As well, how possible would it be for everything to be able to communicate seamlessly. Interesting things to think about. As I brought up on the HTB two.com podcast, The iPhone has only been around for approximately 6 years, and of those six years, we have only had accessibility for approximately 4 of them. Granted, I do stand to be corrected, but it makes you wonder. Quite a bit of changes in the past 10 years. You can now call toll-free: 855-898-2582, extension 7301 To reach me. RE: APPLE TV, VERSION 2 OR 3, plus remote?
That's weird, because version 2 doesn't support 1080P. DO you have Xcode on your mac? And, apparently, your mac is responding to the remote, which means you have an IR port somewhere on it. You need to pair the remote with the apple TV so it will only respond to that, rather than the computer. Go to settings, general, remotes, and blick pair remote, on the apple tv. Re: APPLE TV, VERSION 2 OR 3, plus remote?
Hi, I would also turn off the I-R Receiver on your Mac as I believe that Pairing it to the ATV will only restrict what remotes the ATV responds to. To turn it off of your Mac, go into System Prefs, in the Security Privacy pane, unlock it, then uncheck the I-R Receiver item. The Remote app on the iPhone/iPad will sync with whatever is going on with your ATV once you get to the Now Playing option as long as you are asking it to control the same Library. Later... RE: APPLE TV, VERSION 2 OR 3, plus remote?
Okay, I got the remote controlling the Apple TV, or so I thought, it took me through my library, and when I pushed play, it played it on the mac, not apple tv. When I select the apple tv to be controlled, my remote app doesn't give me the same structure of the remote that the physical app does, it only says certain things, and there is no enter button. Re: APPLE TV, VERSION 2 OR 3, plus remote?
Hi, When using the Remote App, double-tap on an item you wish to play. Once it starts to play, the Now Playing window should present itself on the iDevice and there will be Previous, Play/Pause, Next and Volume buttons you can manipulate. The layout is not exactly the same as what the ATV presents when using the physical remote but you will have access to most media. You will not have access to the Settings and other things such as NetFlicks with the Remote App. You will, though, be able to control Play/Pause and such if you're playing media that you originally started playing with the physical remote via the ATV interface. Hope this makes sense. Later... I cannot figure out a few things in Calendar
Hello, Currently, I am using Calendar on my mac and iPhone syncing via iCloud. Is there a way to customize reminder alerts. I would like other options, such as 12 hours before an event. I also cannot figure out how to schedule a repeating event to occur the first Saturday of the month. I found the option for an event to repeat every month but I don't want the event to repeat every 5th of the month but every first Saturday of the month. Thanks ahead of time :) Sincerely, Christina -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. No, iTunes doesn't need to be open to play content. There's a setting in the remote app that lets you maintain a connection to which ever thing you're connected to. Also, once you have the remote app connected to your apple tv, there's a control tab, that will let you actually control the ATV menus with the touchscreen, as well as enter in passwords, etc. From: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com [mailto:macvisionaries@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Kliphton Sent: Wednesday, December 12, 2012 8:03 PM To: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: APPLE TV, VERSION 2 OR 3, plus remote? Hi, I would also turn off the I-R Receiver on your Mac as I believe that Pairing it to the ATV will only restrict what remotes the ATV responds to. To turn it off of your Mac, go into System Prefs, in the Security Privacy pane, unlock it, then uncheck the I-R Receiver item. The Remote app on the iPhone/iPad will sync with whatever is going on with your ATV once you get to the Now Playing option as long as you are asking it to control the same Library. Later... It supports 1080P, but says version 2 on the box. Also, does it have to open up my iTunes library every time it plays something? Cause when I'm pushing buttons on the remote, it's playing music on my mac. Also, it is not showing me the same screen, the phone app is not showing when what the apple tv remote is whne I move around with both. You need to make sure home sharing is enabled on the apple tv. As far as hardware, I honestly don't know what you got, without finding out what the model identifier is. Finding that out requires Xcode, though.
