Re: From Lori RE: [QUAD-L] Potassium
Dear Lori, I use vitamin C to ramp up bladder acidity. I don't have an indwelling catheter but it still makes me feel better even at 1 gram per day. With an indwelling cath I took 4 grams and mandelamine and had very few infections. Someone said it combines to create formaldehide in the bladder. I don't know if its true. It does make daily vitamins and minerals work better. john -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: quad-list@eskimo.com Sent: Sat, 8 Sep 2007 8:50 pm Subject: From Lori RE: [QUAD-L] Potassium See what's new at AOL.com and Make AOL Your Homepage. Besides sodium, it is the second positive ion in the body and extremely important for many of the vital organs. In 1997 when I got bronchitis… because I had such a hard time coughing …I was using my albuterol inhaler many many times a day. I finally had to go to the emergency room to get an x-ray to rule out and ammonia. As I was in the x-ray room… a nurse came running in with two of the biggest pills I had ever seen in my life (and by then I had seen plenty) saying that I had to take them right away. I asked her why and she told me that my blood work had just come back and I was very low on potassium. I guess it scares them so much that they could not even wait until the x-ray was finished! On another potassium related topic… I just had the strangest thing happen to me less than a year ago. I had been battling constant urinary tract infections for years and finally had some big boulders removed from the bladder itself a year ago this past May. My doctor and I thought that would solve the problem. Unfortunately, I kept having chronic UTIs. Someone here had suggested the medication Mandelamine (I think it was) as sort of a prophylactic against UTIs. Anyway, one day my husband and I were reading about the medication on one particular site and on that one site… a paragraph glared at us. It said that one could not take this medication if they could not get their urine pH to stay at a 6 or lower. More acidic in other words. Up till then I could not get my urine pH at that ideal number by trying cranberry juice, cranberry supplements, etc. etc. to get it that way. The more acidic the urine… the last chance for bugs to grow. I have always known that. Anyway, I had been eating a banana every single day for a long long time. My husband boinked himself on the forehead with the palm of his hand as he read that paragraph. To make a long story short… I stopped eating the bananas and I have not had a bladder infection since! Along with keeping my urine Ph around the ideal number 6. Who would ever have thought that too many bananas could contribute to increased bladder infections? But, when you do some in-depth reading about potassium… it talks a lot about potassium and the role it plays with kidney function, etc. etc… I told my urologist and she was also glad that we found an answer to my problem that had plagued me for almost 7 years. That is the second time that the Internet has helped me more than greatly when even the doctors were without answers. I love the program Mystery Diagnosis on the Discovery Health Channel. It portrays what had happened to me so many times over the years… having all kinds of symptoms and the doctors can help you either because of laziness or incompetence. Re: [QUAD-L] voc.rehab
I don't think you can judge a state agency by the quality of its politicians. The problem that is inherent with many state agencies is that most operate like a company that is run by a union. there isn't really any incentive for them to improve. It is like public schools with the vice president of the teachers union?is elected as president of the school board. It becomes a great place to work but don't expect the children to read. One of Ohio's elementary schools had 64% of the children on behavior modification drugs. The private school in?the same area only had 2%. I'm sure that many counselors at VR help a lot of people, but when they get a quad?as a client, they have to actually work.?? What I'm suggesting is that counselors be rated for competency, or lack thereof. I've heard the same stories about the same counselors over the years. I honestly don't believe Ohio's BVR would survive close scrutiny of how they spend there funding. I know their union would prevent them from being fired, but they can't do anything if a few are reassigned to more suitable jobs, say, repairing potholes. john, C-5,?31 years post -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; quad-list@eskimo.com Sent: Sat, 11 Aug 2007 7:01 pm Subject: Re: [QUAD-L] voc.rehab In a message dated 8/11/2007 5:06:42 P.M. Re: [QUAD-L] Steve
A lot of people believe a wound will only heal if you lay in bed awkwardly turning and never letting any pressure on it until it is gone. Clean wounds can often heal rather quickly after debrieding. I've had a clean wound heal in three months using trypsin. I didn't miss anytime in the chair. Let your doctor know that you would like to keep your job while healing it. Be careful not to sit on wrinkles and the roho isn't meant to raise you up in your chair. You should be immersed in it. I've seen some of the air mattresses over inflated too. They don't work the way you want if you don't sink into them some. It takes about 20 minutes to destroy the skin tissue from pressure. You need to be a little obsessive about avoiding sores. Once you have a sore, it can be a few weeks before all the dead tissue falls off or you get it off and you see how bad your hurt. Once it appears healed, treat it like a wound for another 4 - 6 months. New skin is real easy to damage. I wish I could brag that I never get them, but I do. Living with them seems to be the trick. Don't let it depress you and if you feel depressed, tell your doctor that too. good luck john -Original Message- From: William Willis [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: quad-list@eskimo.com Sent: Sat, 16 Jun 2007 1:18 pm Subject: [QUAD-L] Steve You are absolutely right, Steve. As others have pointed out, your wound could be far worse internally than what you can see on the surface, and you may be risking more serious consequences. Being relegated to bed for several weeks or even months is a dismal prospect, but time invested now should result in long term positive benefits. Think of what a relief it would be not having to continually care for your wound and worry about how much time you are spending in your chair. Dear Stunt, Roosevelt's agreement with the saudis was to not back the existance of a jewish state in the middle east. oops! guess that agreement was a pile of lies. I'm very aware that most muslim states only put up with America. It makes little difference if they are bathist or shia or sunni. They aren't ready for ww3. If Saddam took saudi arabia it wouldn't bother me. We could have promised to stay out of it as long as we get tankers at $7 per barrel. Saddam would have jumped at it and some insane saudis would have crashed jets into him and murdered his family. The saudi royal family is a joke as is the amir of kuwait. A hundred years ago they were nothing but bedouin looking for a stranger in the desert to murder. There isn't a country over there that is worth the lives of one American soldier. America can hurt them all badly by becoming oil independant. Let them eat their oil. Osama would never of thought about attacking the US if we had just left it alone. In fact, Saddam probably would have wiped out his family. Iran would be peeing in its pants worrying about another war with Iraq. If he turned on Israel, they would have nuked him. The Bushes have what they believe are friends in the middle east. The rest of America doesn't! We could have been so happy if we had never sent any military into that hell hole. We could have built an entire industry based on not replacing oil. It is going to run out anyway. I know that you probably will never agree with me, but I honestly believe America is much better off forcing them to try to please us than we are trying to make that miserable bunch happy. Hope your summer ROCKS, john P.S. If it were up to me, I'd pull every American soldier back to a position near Basra and Turkey to make sure we get reciepts for the oil sales and let them have their civil war. If the outcome is unacceptable, we just remove another regime untill they get it right. I had a tremendous amount of problems with my bowels constantly being irritated and tremendous amounts of gas about two years ago. In fact, it was so bad I was becoming somewhat depressed. I ended up seeing a psychotherapist and he suggested that I keep a food journal and speak with the VA dietitian. Using my food journal, the dietitian quickly identified most of my problems as being more lactose intolerant than I had previously believed and taking in too much fiber at one time. I really think seeing a dietitian and having a food journal in hand might solve plenty of your problems. I use lactose tablets in order to eat anything with dairy and I also use Beano whenever I eat something that causes gas normally (beans). This has helped considerably. My dietitian told me these are enzymes with help the digestive system work better. I have also started using probiotics (found in yogurt) and I've even found some tablets so I don't have to eat a tub of yogurt per day. Ok, osama bin Laden is a member of the Bin Laden family which runs a multi-billion dollar engineering company. They built and designed all the saudi palaces and Bin Laden's daddy is very close t the Saudi royal family and Bin Laden has worked all over the world building mosques, roads and pipelines. We never sold poison gas to any country! The US has been destroying poison gas and biological weapons unilaterally since 1971. We have sold nuclear weapons to the UK. I personally don't believe Osama was responsible for the WTC. He isn't that smart. With that said, I think he knew about it and it was an al qiada operation. He is guilty by asociation but it wasn't his idea and he was merely kept aware that an attack of some kind was to take place. Inteligence says there were to be 12 jets hijacked that day. The hijackers were mostly Saudi, Kuwaiti, and Egyptian. No Iraqi's were involved. In fact, Al qiada in Iraq was operated by a Jordanian. He is dead and it is now run by an Egyptian. In 1991 America sent 400,000 troops into Saudi Arabia. This is a country that beheads people for violating the Quran. It is considered by many Muslims to be holy ground. Christians are tolerated as embassadors and expected to behave with respect toward Muslim laws and not draw attention to themselves. Many Muslims, even moderates, felt there was no reason to have so many infidels in their holy land. They blame the Royal Family as much as they bame America for this violation. Most would have rather seen Saddam replace the royal family. Wy were we there? Was it our place to save muslims from muslims? How would catholics feel if Osama sent a bodyguard for the pope and dismissed his security people? Its a religous and emotonal hornets nest we stirred up. When the war was over, Americans didn't go home. We kept over 100,000 infidels in Saudi Arabia. We have managed to offend the sensibilities of the entire muslim world. Most muslims think we only went to Saudi Arabia to test our weapons on muslims and steal oil. Lower the air preasure in your van tires to 28 lbs.(don't drive fast with tires mildly deflated and they will wear faster) or replace your shock absorbers with the cheap shocks. You can even lower tire preasure on your wheelchair to get a more comfortable ride. I like when whoever is driving goes slow. If a permobile is bouncing, it may have the frame over torqued. It is just darn near impossible to get the Invacare vendors to do what they say they will. I have also given up on the idea that Peachtree will come out with a headdress that is close to the one be used to produce. I happen to see a young man driving a Permobile using a chin control (with one of those new, less cumbersome bibs) and he was able to function real well. The reason I paid attention to him is because he is extremely active like I am and has about the exact same return. Since I have come to the realization that I will have to go to a different drive system (no more Peachtree), I am leaning toward the new small chin control with the bib. I have heard that Permobiles bounce around in the van almost uncontrollably. Does anyone have any experience with this problem? The young man I talked to said he didn't have that problem, but he may just be accustomed to it. I used to think it was normal for me to bounce around in my Van, but I later learned that if I sat upright (that is of course if my blood pressure would let me) I rode much more comfortably. Stunt, should you ever want to discuss the complexity of developing a nuclear bomb program, let me know? We didn't need to fight Iraq in 1991. We could have made a deal with sadam to get 7 dollar a barrel oil for 40 years. Instead, we went to war to save a country that believes Americans are better off dead and giving their money to them. Why should we get involved in arab problems that freighten our enemies, (Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia)? Remember all the arab nations that joined us in pushing out Saddam? They didn't like us, they just hated Saddam. Now we are teaching arabs how to train competant armies and loosing soldiers at a rate of 3 a day and a billion dollars a week. He was paying off Kadafi with money scammed from the Oil for Food instead of feeding the Kurds and Sunni. The UN was considering lifting restrictions set by the 1991 ceasefire treaty that Sadamned violated too many times to list. People might remove it if it got uncomfortable, especially those with Alzheimer's, who might not understand why they should wear it. Bracelets could also label people as mentally ill, whereas an implanted chip is much less obvious, says Rick Rader of the Orange Grove Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The centre, which cares for children with Down's syndrome, cerebral palsy and autism, was in the media spotlight two years ago when it considered using VeriChip's device in a similar study on its patients, a plan that has since been put on the back burner. At the time there was an outcry from those who saw an implantable RFID as reminiscent of the mark of the beast, as described in the book of Revelations. As explained on Albrecht's website, the Bible states that people who take the mark of the beast - a mark on the right hand or the forehead that contains a number or a name that is required for buying and selling - will receive a grievous sore as well as the wrath of God, while those who refuse will be rewarded. It is something Albrecht, a Christian, takes seriously. I don't think anyone is arguing that the VeriChip implant in its current incarnation would meet that definition, she says. But the concern for many people is that this would be a necessary precursor to getting to that point and therefore probably should be objected to. Ants are easily treated. I spread diazanon around the house and in the drains. I hate the damn centipedes that bite. I'm ambivelent about mice since they eat insects. I do hate waking up with mice on me. I do put out mice and rat poison. I think it keeps them healthy. Re: [QUAD-L] Morphine withdrawal
I've been taking hydrocodone for a few years and uhm, no! I wouldn't go cold turkey for nothing. If you had a pump inside the doctor should have helped you taper off. It will be a few weeks of hell the way your doing it. I wish you the best but I wish you would have gotten something to help you taper off. This could easily cause you to go into autonomic dysreflexia. You are just beginning. Call your doctor and ask about some methadone to help you quit. One mg. isn't a lot but if your addicted to it, You are addicted to it. Doesn't your Doctor like you? (Btw, miralax works for the tummy trouble.) I wish you the best of luck. I wish you a few hydrocodone to taper off with, too. john -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: quad-list@eskimo.com; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Mon, 7 May 2007 11:00 AM Subject: [QUAD-L] Morphine withdrawal Curious if any of you with pumps ever requested the morphine be taken out? I did that this last Thursday and it was an unbelievably overwhelming and rough weekend. They didn't 'actually' warm me of the withdrawal symptoms but having been a patient this long common sense told me there would be some. I was on 1mg for 24 hours, not a lot for most, but 88 pound body it apparently was! Anyway the morphine wasn't doing anything but causing major tummy troubles so I wanted to decease it. Friday was fine. Friday night turned into hell. My legs were twitching uncontrollably, not caring who or what they hit. There was excruciating leg pain, as if my muscles were literally contracting more each second. Around 6 am after being up almost 18 hours, I had my first sneeze attack, weird I know! 11 TIMES! I got out of bed and the legs quit twitching because of the pressure. I was extremely weak, nauseated and sleepy. Nothing seemed to keep my mind busy enough. So I went outside and the sneezing took over, 12, 15, sometimes 8 in a row. Heart rate and blood pressure were elevated and no appetite at all. Now I know why coke addicts are so thin! Every other sip was coming up. If I hadn't had left over oral baclofen i may not have made it. Moods were up and down and weird too! Saturday night wasn't any better. My legs were even worse on jumping. I was hot then cold, my nose was stopping up. Everyone thought I might end up in the hospital as no one was getting sleep. I was up every 20 minutes until I finally just let my legs jump until they stopped. Sometimes an hour would pass and I would settle down and sleep. Sunday morning didn't come fast enough! Those of you who know me KNOW i don't get out of bed early and I was in my chair by 7:30am. So I laid in my chair around the house, yard and anywhere there was someone awake! Around 11am I laid down on the bed and my legs hardly moved! WOHOO! But after a fast 45 minute nap, I woke up with the worst headache Ive had since they put my halo on in 98! Right back up, and it settled with Tylenol. So I repeated Saturday on Sunday with a stopped up nose. Then bed time at 7, hopping from beds, hard one to soft one...my legs laid there and cramped but no twitching. So it was peaceful. This morning I was awake at 6am again but in chair by 830am. I'm really weak today, very alert and doing better. Plan on giving my doctor's office three shades of hell on Wednesday! So word to the wise, be well prepared if you go off morphine without slowly decreasing it. Sorry to babble just want to warn anyone heading that way! AOL now offers free email to everyone. Re: [QUAD-L] Drug curbs bone loss after spinal cord injury
I wonder what it does after 31 years post injury. john -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: quad-list@eskimo.com Sent: Mon, 7 May 2007 12:51 PM Subject: [QUAD-L] Drug curbs bone loss after spinal cord injury Drug curbs bone loss after spinal cord injury Mon May 7, 2007 11:36AM EDT NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - The bone drug Fosamax (also called alendronate) given soon after spinal cord injury prevents bone loss associated with the injury, a study suggests. People who've suffered spinal cord injury are at risk for rapid bone loss occurring below the level of the injury due to an increase in the harmful process of bone resorption as well as impaired bone formation, thereby predisposing them to osteoporosis and bone fractures. In their study, Dr. Nigel L. Gilchrist, of The Princess Margaret Hospital, Christchurch, New Zealand, and colleagues randomly assigned 31 spinal cord injury patients to Fosamax (70 milligrams per week) or placebo, within 10 days of injury, for 12 months. The team measured bone mineral density (BMD) at various sites including the lumbar spine, hip, femoral neck (the area where thigh bone meets the hip) and total body at the start of treatment and at 3, 6, 12, and 18 months. The researchers observed significant changes favoring the Fosamax group for five of six total body BMD measurements across 18 months. In this study, write the authors, preservation of BMD with alendronate was clearly demonstrated. Whether such treatment prevents lower limb fractures in the longer term remains to be investigated, they note. SOURCE: Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, April 2007. Re: [QUAD-L] drugs
Excuse me, but I'll do drugs till I die. Manby of us are surviving because baclofen reduces our muscle spasms to a degree that helps us to live with some comfort. Many quads are living with profound pain caused by the long term irregular flow of spinal fluid post injury. Many of us have pain caused by near constant UTI's from internal catheters. There is no reason why quads should live in misery because someone else can't feel the pain that has become a constant companion in life. I agree it is wrong to abuse drugs, but no doctor would ask a patient to just grin and bear it. pain will kill you if you don't treat it. Your blood preasure shoots up, you stroke and your heart goes down and you die. Most quadriplegics can actually prove the medical value of marijuana as a short term nerve pain medicine. Re: [QUAD-L] relationships and being a quad
Money is an issue that every couple has to come to grips with. handicapped or not. We all find middle grounds that suit us or we argue a lot about it. You got to decide if you love that person. If you love them and your alone now, you made a mistake. I have a sister that controls every freakin dime her husband brings home. Somehow they own 15 houses and appartment buildings and he gets a new truck each year. She gave me a $4500 mattress. Some people are gifted when it comes to money. He never made more than 55g in one year and she gets money by the truckload without going on a long drive. I think it is hard never getting on top in bed. Drives me crazy watching all the crap a woman has to put up with being around me. I thought those expences sounded reasonable. Were you upset because she didn't consult you first? Do you begin every responce to spending money with a sharp No!? Honestly, for those of you having a tough time in a relationship, you need to consider being alone. Control is important, but when your alone, just what is it that you control? Having been alone my entire crippled life I can tell you that I'd let a lot of little money arguements go and just be glad she said the car was from both of us. You can tell her you'd enjoy doing some of the shopping, but if your the guy that sulks everytime you sign a payment agreement, think how much pain and suffering shes saving you. I do wish you luck. hope money doesn't cripple your relationship. john -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; quad-list@eskimo.com Sent: Thu, 19 Apr 2007 2:17 PM Subject: Re: [QUAD-L] relationships and being a quad Good choice Ron for not married that Lady. I'm going to have my 25th wedding anniversary in June but my wife left me last October but we're still married. As for control, you have every right to fear the loss of control. I came home from rehab in October of 2000 and from that day my wife took control of everything and I had no say or little say from that day forward. I would ask her about finances and she would tell me not to worry about it and I would try to discipline the kids but she would tell them that they did not have to listen to me and she would not take me out very often until I was able to drive my own van. She was even really upset because she needed to take a day off from work to go with me to pick my van up and from there it just got worse. She did not discuss the purchase of a $6000 entertainment center or the $2200 washer and dryer or even the $5500 car that she just bought for our daughter without telling me so either myself or my friends could check i! t out. Re: [QUAD-L] relationships and being a quad
I was suggesting you try to work out something, but you got it figured out. I haven't been married because I like control, I had to learn that about myself. You obviously don't have a control problem. You have mastered the situation. If its any help, you can hire a woman for the night. Please don't come back with she ripped you off, cause you're in control now. If it makes any difference, you don't have to marry someone to have a relationship, and a marriage isn't proof of a relationship. Sorry I pissed you off with that namby pamby bullcrap about getting help to save your marriage. You didn't say you were divorced. I assumed you still talking and trying to make it work. I should be grateful that my wife told my daughter that the car was from both of us! She never even told me that she bought the car until I found out three days later and that she paid for the dam thing out of my daughter's college fund and I'm supposed to be grateful that I'm not alone! Didn't you read the whole post especially the part where I mention that she left me last October. No, I am not 100% alone because my 24-year-old son is still living here but I might as well be alone because he is not around here that much due to work and spending time with his friends. Also, from having a 60K+ paycheck a year to living on SSDI, married couples need to discuss finances together because making house ! payments and utility payments and putting food on the table are a little bit more important than having a $6000 entertainment center when we already have four perfectly functioning TVs and spending $2200 on a washer and dryer when the ones we had worked just fine. You might want to remember that if most of that list ever said they didn't believe they would have been tortured and burned at the stake. Einstien said that where he grew up it was important not to offend people so he often tempered his public statements for fear of controversy. He attended various European universities, and became a Canon in the Catholic church in 1497. His new system was actually first presented in the Vatican gardens in 1533 before Pope Clement VII who approved, and urged Copernicus to publish it around this time. Copernicus was never under any threat of religious persecution - and was urged to publish both by Catholic Bishop Guise, Cardinal Schonberg, and the Protestant Professor George Rheticus. Copernicus referred sometimes to God in his works, and did not see his system as in conflict with the Bible. 2. Sir Fancis Bacon (1561-1627) Bacon was a philosopher who is known for establishing the scientific method of inquiry based on experimentation and inductive reasoning. In De Interpretatione Naturae Prooemium, Bacon established his goals as being the discovery of truth, service to his country, and service to the church. Although his work was based upon experimentation and reasoning, he rejected atheism as being the result of insufficient depth of philosophy, stating, It is true, that a little philosophy inclineth man’s mind to atheism, but depth in philosophy bringeth men's minds about to religion; for while the mind of man looketh upon second causes scattered, it may sometimes rest in them, and go no further; but when it beholdeth the chain of them confederate, and linked together, it must needs fly to Providence and Deity. (Of Atheism) 3. Johannes Kepler (1571-1630) Kepler was a brilliant mathematician and astronomer. He did early work on light, and established the laws of planetary motion about the sun. He also came close to reaching the Newtonian concept of universal gravity - well before Newton was born! His introduction of the idea of force in astronomy changed it radically in a modern direction. Kepler was an extremely sincere and pious Lutheran, whose works on astronomy contain writings about how space and the heavenly bodies represent the Trinity. Kepler suffered no persecution for his open avowal of the sun-centered system, and, indeed, was allowed as a Protestant to stay in Catholic Graz as a Professor (1595-1600) when other Protestants had been expelled! 4. Galileo Galilei (1564-1642) Galileo is often remembered for his conflict with the Roman Catholic Church. His controversial work on the solar system was published in 1633. It had no proofs of a sun-centered system (Galileo's telescope discoveries did not indicate a moving earth) and his one proof based upon the tides was invalid. It ignored the correct elliptical orbits of planets published twenty five years earlier by Kepler. Since his work finished by putting the Pope's favorite argument in the mouth of the simpleton in the dialogue, the Pope (an old friend of Galileo's) was very offended. After the trial and being forbidden to teach the sun-centered system, Galileo did his most useful theoretical work, which was on dynamics. Galileo expressly said that the Bible cannot err, and saw his system as an alternate interpretation of the biblical texts. 5. Rene Descartes (1596-1650) Descartes was a French mathematician, scientist and philosopher who has been called the father of modern philosophy. His school studies made him dissatisfied with previous philosophy: He had a deep religious faith as a Roman Catholic, which he retained to his dying day, along with a resolute, passionate desire to discover the truth. At the age of 24 he had a dream, and felt the vocational call to seek to bring knowledge together in one system of thought. His system began by asking what could be known if all else were doubted - suggesting the famous I think therefore I am. Actually, it is often forgotten that the next step for Descartes was to establish the near certainty of the existence of God - for only if God both exists and would not want us to be deceived by our experiences - can we trust our senses and logical thought processes. God is, therefore, central to his whole philosophy. What he really wanted to see was that his philosophy be adopted as standard Roman Catholic teaching.

The separation of Church and State came from a letter between Jefferson and supreme court of one of the states. It is not a law and the supreme court has never treated it as a law untill 1960. I'm guessing it had to do with Kennedy being Roman Catholic. i always thought it was a misunderstood part of the constitution. No law respecting, doesn't that mean they shall not make judgements, pro or con, respecting religion in America. It is always interpreted as the government will always be antireligion. People say the courts are walking a fine line. To my understanding, the courts are dancing all over and with the important problems we have, who cares where someone puts the 10 commandments. Obviously, nobody reads them. john -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: quad-list@eskimo.com Sent: Mon, 16 Apr 2007 5:42 PM Subject: Re: [QUAD-L] Wow, Whoda Guessed This ?? The only guarantee is that Congress (a body of legislators) shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof... Re: [QUAD-L] after death
I will probably offend someone else as I seem to do quite often but If you need proof then you have no faith. You can't sit and question a faith. The big differences come in what you have faith in. The questions aren't simple, like, will your faith tolerate embryonic stem cell research? They are complex like, will your faith allow you to tolerate the existance of someone who studies embryonic stem cells? Does your faith really respect the rights of people who have a different faith? A lot of us know that Christian history doesn't have much tolerance for other Christians, let alone people that worship non-Christian faiths. For alomost a century we have allowed our leaders to discuss how tolerant we are. I don't think we are tolerant. Maybe we are but I don't see it. We preach tolerance. We seem to want to be tolerant. Most of us (able-bodied and handicapped) hate large groups of people for all sorts of reasons. My grandfather use to say the second amendment made people tolerant. The other doctor said: “clear” and my body jump up from the bed. They were using the electricity paddle over and over, but the doctors couldn’t get my heart started. Each time they used the paddles my body arch up and full to the bed, but I wanted to go with the Angels. All at once I was by a river. It was beautiful on the other side it was like looking into the Garden of Eden. I saw a man surrounded by a golden light. He held out his arms and said:” If it is to pain full come across.” It was JUSES! Oh how I wanted to go to him. I turn my head, and saw the doctors still working to save my life. I looked at Jesus he told me that he had so much more for me to do on earth. I was asked if you can not take the pain just cross the river! I said:” Yes I could take the pain.” All at once I want back into my body and was in a coma. Later I found out I was dead for five minutes. The doctor told my family that I was in Gods hands. That is when she ran to get the doctor, I was upset because I wanted to go back to see Jesus! When the doctor came in he to was surprised to see me awake. Re: [QUAD-L] Six Stem Cell Facts
Your wrong about organ donors always being dead. Often, organ donors are kept on life support until their organs can be harvested in a timely fashion so that the most people will benefit. I could believe that all life is a miracle, but after meeting quite a few lawyers, politicians and religious leaders, I'm quite certain that life is not miraculous and very probably a mistake. Most children and mothers survive birth because now we believe in germs. Did god make germs? Do religions believe in germs? Should a doctor be allowed to study a human body while in med school. Ok. Not your doctor. If penicillin (which was denounced by many religions) be with held from people in those religions? It cures syphilis and we all know that syphilis was a curse from god on people that don't have sex the way god wants them, too. I do believe Jerry Falwell shouldn't have sex and just going by his proportions, I don't think he could have normal sex. I think he is a masturbator and should be stoned until he finds a new drug. Kidding?? We don't need to kid. I have neighbors that can't pay bills but go to every execution to protest against the people that think the death penalty is wrong. Trust me jim, they took thousands of eggs and fertilized a hundred at least. The ones they show on tv are always so perfect. Most times the egg gets messed up and is useless. Each time she tried, I guarentee they injected between 6 and 20 they thought had a good chance. If they only had to prep one egg the price would drop a lot. If they aren't paying for storage then the other embryos are probably in a local sewer. john -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; quad-list@eskimo.com Sent: Sun, 8 Apr 2007 2:01 PM Subject: Re: [QUAD-L] Six Stem Cell Facts I am against the whole IVF process that creates excess embryos to begin with. The frozen embryos can continued to be stored indefinitely. What's wrong with that? Are you concerned about the energy being used to keep them frozen? The embryos that are unfrozen eventually die a natural death, just as every other living thing, then cremated. That is quite different then killing it by removing stem cells to use in someone else. Even organ donors are declared dead by some standards before there organs are removed. # S.5—Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act of 2007 doesn't even do that; it just states that the embryos were in excess of the clinical need of the individuals seeking such treatment. and would never be implanted in a woman. I want my spinal cord repaired so I can breathe without a ventilator and possibly move independently, but I don't want it so badly that I will end another human life just for the possible improve my own life. I don't understand how those wanting to use stem cells from embryos can't comprehend that. An embryo is a human life, and put into the right environment, will continue to develop and grow. I'm not so self centered that improving my life should come at the cost of another life. There are other sources of pluripotent stem cells, sources such as umbilical chords and amniotic fluid. There is also somatic cell nuclear transfer (therapeutic cloning) which I don't have a problem with. On a side note, my cousin just gave birth to a son last week. He was the result of IVF from her egg and her husband's sperm. They had 8 viable embryos. The first 7 she did not carry full term. I'm happy for them that the last one she was able to carry to term and mom and son are doing fine. Re: [QUAD-L] life begins
I believe life begins the moment you can sight it in a 4 power rifle scope. How can you tell a sperm and an egg joined? Why are men who father children called dads by lawyers? Why are women that give birth called mom's by lawyers? Are babies that develope from IVF damned by god? Why do people have to interpret the bible after it has been rewritten in english? Was it done wrong? Does god hate people in wheelchairs? Does god hate gays? If God hates rich people then why do Americans keep electing them. I think everyone just picks the part of religion they like and ignores the rest. If god even gave mankind a second thought he wouldn't have allowed nuclear bombs to work. The real problem with stem cell research is if it is allowed then any woman that wants IVF will get it paid for by the gov't. pretty soon men are not needed. Most men are bad fathers and woman can do any thing men can when it comes to work. A 13yld boy with a cup could provide enough sperm for the next 20 years. Stem cell research is the next step toward a society that doesn't need men! Lets face it guys, I'm a quad and women say I'm more fun than most guys. We are being phased out. Re: [QUAD-L] sins...pfffffffft
If you ever play russian roulette, risking a life and taking a chance is exactly the same thing as willfully terminating a life. You can't equate IVF with shooting craps. Everyone wants their sin to be a little sin. I've heard of folks that destroyed hundreds of embryos trying. They don't want to adopt now that everyone can find birth parents, (thank you phill donahue, oprah and sally jesse for making american kids unadoptable)nobody wants to do anything about the millions of kids in south and central America. Nobody wants to be bothered with kids that aren't theirs. We are all part of an unforgivable sin that has nothing to do with unborn children. People spend millions on IVF while millions of children die of neglect all over the world. People are starving on our border and we are afraid they might get in. We just built 4 stealth bombers for 100 billion dollars. We have spent a trillion dollars in Iraq killing people and we pretend we are worried that using an embryo for! its cells is a sin. Compared to what we allow to happen in this world, its just a teensy weensy lil sin. If your not giving every spare cent to poor children in America, then your moral sins are too great to even give stem cells a second thought. john -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; quad-list@eskimo.com Sent: Sun, 8 Apr 2007 10:54 PM Subject: RE: [QUAD-L] Six Stem Cell Facts At 05:50 PM 4/8/2007, Dan wrote: At 05:29 PM 4/8/2007 -0700, Jim Lubin said something that elicited my response: Risking a life and taking a chance is not the same as willfully terminating a life. If you aren't having any luck with DMEs and doctors writing perscriptions and you can afford to go outside the system, any electrician can combine your plug fasteners with a new 24 volt charger and set you up. My brother saved today and he was able to come out and somehow get the connector to work but it seems to smell a little bit after the discharge so I have not charged for two days as the bars did not go down. I don't know what I do if he would not have come because my back up wheelchair will not work, because my aid did not charge regularly and the batteries are now dead, which my brother just bought last year at $188. I wrote my wheelchair company several times and calls them but just got voicemail. She would not even tell me how long it's going to take to get the batteries and if she had received by doctor order. She e-mailed me to not write her or call the voicemail anymore. I could not believe that. If my brother would not have been able to get the connector to work, I'm not sure what I would be! doing.and I'm not sure what he did. I would be sitting in a wheelchair without any power. The Permobil is almost impossible to push. I wonder if they are all that way. I don't like to be in my back up wheelchair, because it causes pressure on my rear as it only reclines and slides you down each time you recline.. I had to stay in bed a week after the last time I tear was repaired when it took three weeks to get the part because of the pressure although it was not open. We are told that we are responsible for our own arrangements if our wheelchairs are not working. No one will cover repairs to keep a backup functioning.. The company I deal with is Apria. It seems like they have only one person to repair anything and getting parts is so slow. They claim they are looking for someone, they probably don't want to pay anyone and make us wait. It seems really unfair. We don't have a lot of companies to choose from like able-bodied persons do with cars. Does anyone else have this problem, when their wheelchair is down. It seems like things will get worse with the new policy of waiting till the wheelchair repair costs are as much as a new chair. We will be having repairs all the time and not at once, so we cannot get a new chair for a long time. The repair people told me that it doesn't matter whether you have insurance or Medicare that the insurance pretty much follows the same rules as Medicare . What does anybody know about that or is it make a difference on what kind of insurance you have I wish it was that easy and I hope that its still that easy. DMEs are hiding behind their counters everytime someone rolls in. Many are requiring their customers to pay up front and then receive a rebate when CMS agrees to pay and finally DOES pay. Often, payments are slow due to code errors and refiling of the paperwork. And more denials. General policies have gone out the window with across the board approval. Most don't realize how bad it can be until they need a new chair or have to have their chairs repaired. Best Wishes W In a message dated 4/5/2007 4:39:42 P.M. If your chair has gel cell batteries you won't be going for 14 mile rides between charges. If you have U-1 batteries you are essentially driving a barbi car. Yes definitely get a urinalasys and the entire lab job. UA and CS. Anytime your urine is dark, smells bad, or leaves build up in the line, its almost always your urinay tract. You should have a lab where you could drop off a sample. Ask your Dr. about a permanent order cause he will get the results anyway. Re: [QUAD-L] Caffeine and protein
I have heard doctors discuss soda pop as being as big a threat to good health as cigarettes. The big part of the problem begins when we let children drink it instead of water. It has been cited as causing decalcification of bones and contributing to osteoperosis. Some sodas contain more cafiene than 30 cups of coffee. One nutrition book I read years ago described soda pop as an anti-nutrient. If your skin breaks down easily, you may want to take more B vitamins and vitamin D. You can get enough of these in a one a day vitamin. I've never met a doctor that didn't take vitamin supplements even though many food supplements have been proven to do nothing.
