I just downloaded SM 1.1.16 for the Mac, and am replying to your message using
that version right now. Nothing seems to be wrong with 1.1.16.

It sure seems to be working for me!
BTW, I clicked on Reply, not Compose. Choosing Compose gets me a fresh, empty

Most of these sites use the couponprinter.exe program, but it doesn't

This has happened with Epson and HP printers, and even using FinePrint

Any suggestions?

Sorry I don't understand this part.

yup, it seems they're browser sniffing. That means
they're sniffing to see what browser you're using, and
if you're using anything besides IE or FF, then you're
SOL. It just won't work with SM.

One way around this is to change you're user agent.
The UA tells the world what browser you're using, and
what operating sytem you're using. For example, your
UA is:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US;
rv:1.8.1.21) Gecko/20090403 SeaMonkey/1.1.16

This tells me you're using winXP [thats NIT 5.1],
you're using the US version of SeaMonkey, version 1.1.16.

If you install the UA Switcher, then you can change
your UA and pretend you're another browser, and a
nother operating system. You can get it here:
http://chrispederick.com/work/user-agent-switcher/

Another Question? SeaMonkey 1.1.15 and Windows Media Player Plug-in

2009-04-10 Thread John Reinders

Hi,

Wasn't sure I should add my question to the thread above, so I'll start
a new one. I have the new FireFox plugin installed and it appears to
work fine when I test it on the site:

I have Media Player 11 installed...

The problem I'm having is with my Dad's website and a piece of

fine in IE... and in fact works fine on his PC as he has Quicktime
installed. I don't have Quicktime and would prefer to use the Media
player plugin.

His website address is: http://www.songsofpraiseandworship.org/

Any thoughts on why it won't work in SeaMonkey. Here also is what
appears in about plugins on my PC:

Thanks for the suggestions... however the only malware in this case is
SM replacing mapi32.dll in C:\windows\system32. It's quite simple to
reproduce:

1. Put original mapi32.dll in system32
2. Reinstall SM 1.1.1x and watch SM replace the existing mapi32.dll with
it's own, and rename the previous mapi32.dll to mapi32_Mozilla.dll.

Doesn't get much simpler than that.

I'll pursue that one, thanks.

Re: Javascript

Raylee Cooper replied On 4/10/2009 10:17 AM

Hi,
I have just upgraded to Seamonkey. I have enabled javascript, ticked
every box in the edit section of the browser window. But I'm still
unable to view most pages, and more often than not, get a message on the
pages I open saying I need to enable javascript. So, I go back up to
edit, preferences, then advanced to check the settings, it's still
enabled and I still can't view the page. Do you know why this is
happening? I really like Seamonkey and I'd hate to have to revert back
to my old browser because this one doesn't work properly.

Thanks, Raye

Raye,

When you installed SeaMonkey did you enable Quick Launch, it places an
icon in your System Taskbar nest to the clock.

If Quick Launch is enabled then you have to close SeaMonkey down
completely, including Quick Launch, QL keeps some parts of SM in memory
to quickly launch the SM application, and this may be preventing you
form seeing your web pages with JavaScript.

see what browser you're using, and if you're using anything besides IE
or FF, then you're SOL. It just won't work with SM.

One way around this is to change you're user agent. The UA tells the
world what browser you're using, and what operating sytem you're using.
For example, your UA is:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.21)
Gecko/20090403 SeaMonkey/1.1.16

This tells me you're using winXP [thats NIT 5.1], you're using the US
version of SeaMonkey, version 1.1.16.

If you install the UA Switcher, then you can change your UA and pretend
you're another browser, and a nother operating system. You can get it
here: http://chrispederick.com/work/user-agent-switcher/

Thanks Peter,
I'm now pretending to be Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US;
rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061010 Firefox/2.0 and all seems to be working.

work fine when I test it on the site:

I have Media Player 11 installed...

The problem I'm having is with my Dad's website and a piece of

fine in IE... and in fact works fine on his PC as he has Quicktime
installed. I don't have Quicktime and would prefer to use the Media

John,

I clicked on the above web site and the home page automatically played
the background music file. I checked the Music page and noticed all the
music files are either .midi or .mp3 files. Your WMP is not set up to
play those file formats.

I clicked on one file from the Music page and my Crescendo mp3 player

Hi Michael,

I checked Windows Media Player and MP3 is selected as on of the file
types. I have midi unchecked because I still use Crescendo for that..

When I click on a MP3 links on Dad's music page -
http://www.songsofpraiseandworship.org/musicministry/our_music.html

Windows Media Player starts right up? That has always worked...

Are you using the FireFox Plugin?

I'm still thinking it has something to do with the javascript, although
that doesn't explain why it works in IE? Or could it be that there are
lines missing in Microsoft® Windows Media Player Firefox Plugin in about
Plug-Ins...eg

audio/x-ms-m3u m3u,* Yes
audio/x-ms-mp3 mp3,* Yes

I don't know, I just know enough about javascript to barely get by.

running WinXPPro (SP3) on a second machine to assist someone
troubleshooting a SeaMonkey issue. I've run into an issue with upgrading
from SM 1.1.14 to 1.1.15 and now 1.1.16 whereby I receive WinXP startup
errors due to SM replacing the MAPI32.DLL in the Windows System32
directory upon each upgrade. To add insult to injury... 1.1.15 1.1.16
required reboots.

If I leave the SM mapi32.dll installed, I received the following error
on startup:

WindowsSearch.exe - Ordinal Not Found
The ordinal 49 could not be located in the synamic link library MAPI32.dll.

If I move the SM mapi32.dll (Mozilla version 0.8.0.0) out of the way and
replace it with the original MS version (4.0.835.1374), I no longer
receive the error SM seems to continue to work just fine. Note: I have
to keep copy of the MS version in a temp/backup folder as SM keeps
overwriting the original - whats up with that?

The Microsoft WindowsSearch.exe is version 7.0.6001.16503.

I seem to recall some discussion regarding Mozilla interference with

If you copy the SM mapi32.dll file to the SM program folder, does it work?

Terry R.

I remember the old NS doing the same. I wonder why SM still does that
and yet FF/TB doesn't.

Hi,

Found the answer me thinks...after much searching.

If you came here wondering how to make Firefox use the Windows Media
Player plugin play a specific file type instead of Quicktime, then you
should know that the WMP plugin is hard-coded to only play the
proprietary Microsoft formats (.asf, .asx, .wm, .wma, .wax, .wmv, and
.wvx), and Windows Media Player provides no provision for changing this.
For the most common formats found on the web (like mp3, midi, mpg, wav,
etc.) you will need to install and configure Quicktime or Quicktime
Alternative.

I found it on http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=206213

I just find it hard to believe that Microsoft would go to all the
trouble to produce a plugin for FireFox and not include the most
commonly used audio extensions... Oh well!

I e-mail their support this morning and received a reply, see below.

Thank you for contacting us concerning Scotts products. As always, it is
our goal to make sure that our customers are completely satisfied with
our products and services.

I am sorry you are experiencing problems printing coupons from our
website. All coupons that are printed off the web require that you
download the software (unless that specific software is already
installed on your PC, as in if another vendor uses the same software).
Each coupon you print is unique and encoded by the software so that the
coupons can't be duplicated or used for fraudulent purposes. If you
install the software now, you can use the same software for future
coupon offers.

The Coupon printer is free, safe and easy to use. It does not install
any form of spyware or adware or collect any personal information about
you. Once it has been downloaded and installed, a process that only
takes a few seconds, you will be able to print coupons from our site and
from emails you might receive.

If this is not acceptable to you and you would prefer we mail the
coupon, please reply with your mailing address and I will mail you the
coupon via the USPS.
I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you. Please feel free
to contact us on our toll free help line at 1-800-543-8873 if we can
answer any additional questions or you are still unable to print our
coupons. Just a note, Home Depot and Lowe's do not accept our coupons.

Again, thank you for taking the time to let us know of your concerns.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if we can be of any additional help
to you.

You are correct in that there is nothing to prevent printing the first
coupon and then making 1000 copies and giving them to all your friends
and neighbors.

The purpose of a coupon is to entice people to buy their product at some
time in the future.

What should they care if they printed a 1000 coupons with their
software, or a 1000 coupons were freely distributed?

world what browser you're using, and what operating sytem you're
using.

If you install the UA Switcher, then you can change your UA and
pretend you're another browser, and a nother operating system. You
can get it here: http://chrispederick.com/work/user-agent-switcher/

Thanks Peter,
I'm now pretending to be Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US;
rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061010 Firefox/2.0 and all seems to be working.

Bob

if you're using the UA Switcher, then when you close
the browser, it will revert back to the original UA

Restore Seamonkey after OS Reload.

2009-04-10 Thread Antman008

Users,

What is the proper method to restore your Seamonkey setup after a full
disk reformat/OS re-install? I generally re-load my WinXP system once a
year or so to get rid of all the file gunk I collect over time. For
Seamonkey, I will save my full Mail folder, my bookmark file, my
preference file, and my address books to a separate drive. After I
reload WinXP, I'll re-install a fresh copy of Seamonkey.

If I start that fresh copy of SM, it wants me to step through the setup
wizard, which I want to bypass and just start restore my existing
account. Additionally, SM has support for multiple user preferences,
but I have a single user system so I want to bypass this also.

(Q1) How can I restore my back-up files, select my account as the
default (and only) account, and bypass the set-up wizard.
(Q2) Am I missing any essential back-up files besides the ones I've
listed above that could help facilitate this?

Thanks,
Antman.

most people will find the QL a useless thing. With

Hi,

Wasn't sure I should add my question to the thread above, so I'll
start a new one. I have the new FireFox plugin installed and it
appears to work fine when I test it on the site:
http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/testpages/wmp9.html.

I have Media Player 11 installed...

The problem I'm having is with my Dad's website and a piece of
javascript I am trying to use that plays daily mp3's... The script
works fine in IE... and in fact works fine on his PC as he has
Quicktime installed. I don't have Quicktime and would prefer to use
the Media player plugin.

His website address is: http://www.songsofpraiseandworship.org/

Thanks, John

 clipped

John,

I clicked on the above web site and the home page automatically played
the background music file. I checked the Music page and noticed all the
music files are either .midi or .mp3 files. Your WMP is not set up to
play those file formats.

I clicked on one file from the Music page and my Crescendo mp3 player
plugin opened an played the song.

Michael

John

Hello John,

I am not using a FireFox plugin.

I am using the Crescendo Universal Max plugin developed years ago for
Netscape (Mozilla). The Universal will install for both SeaMonkey and
IE, but because SM was developed after the last upgrade to Crescendo you
will have to point the Crescendo installer to where you have the SM
Plugin Folder.

Try this version, the last on the list.

I remember the old NS doing the same. I wonder why SM still does that
and yet FF/TB doesn't.

sorry to say, but mine didn't do that

Your NS? Or SM? It was a big issue with NS.

Hi Raylee,

Please reply to the post, rather then composing a new message, and when

The way your replies come up as separate posts make an involved support

This support forum is actually a newsgroup mirrored as a mailing list.
The vast majority of helpers here see it as a newsgroup on the
news.mozilla.org server, with support questions threaded by the subject.

Actually, the best way to use these groups is to set up a newsgroup
account in SeaMonkey for news.mozilla.org. Firstly, it will not clog up
your inbox with posts in which you have no interest, and most important,
your own support threads will work much better for you.

Hrm, strange. As far as I see this, there are two places in the code
where mapi32.dll can be replaced with the SeaMonkey mozMapi32.dll:
 1) On install, but only if these two conditions are met:
299 // If Mapi_backup_dll *and* the default var of
 300 // HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Clients\Mail is set, then install
301 // mozMapi32.dll to the windows system dir as Mapi32.dll.
 2) When setting SeaMonkey MailNews as default mail client and the
Mapi32.dll file present is some old dll (as mentioned before) or another
strange version of the DLL. Here I wonder a bit: The Mapi32.dll I have
here on Windows XP has as version 1.0.2536.0 (5.1.2600.0 as product
version) and as description Extended MAPI 1.0 for Windows NT. You
mentioned as version 4.0.835.1374, what description does the DLL have?
I'm wondering if this is the original DLL from Windows XP or another
(3rd party?) DLL? Do you happen to have Exchange or Groupwise installed?

 Frank

The mapi32.dll is microsoft:
Description: Extended MAPI 1.0 for Window NT
Company: Microsoft Corporation
File Version: 4.0.835.1374

The system had Groupwise Exchange installed on it (since removed) and
is valid.

http://www.google.com/search?complete=0hl=enq=mapi32.dll+%2B4.0.835.1374btnG=Google+Search

However, it should not matter; SM shouldn't replace the file in
system32. What I can do, if I find time later this weekend, is to
completely purge SM and then reinstall first 1.1.16 (then purge that)
and then 2.0a3 again. That way I can determine exactly which one is the
culprit. I'm pretty sure that it was the update from 1.1.15 to 1.1.16,
but I want to be positive before adding to the bug.

Mark,
My point is that if the OP had Quick Launch enabled when the JavaScript
would not work on the web page, and he enabled JavaScript the Quick
Launch may have kept the original setting in memory and executed the
page with JavaScript from memory.

Disabling Quick Launch and closing SM then opening SM starts a fresh
instance of SM with no instructions kept in the Quick Launch memory.

errors due to SM replacing the MAPI32.DLL in the Windows System32
directory upon each upgrade. To add insult to injury... 1.1.15 1.1.16
 required reboots.

If I leave the SM mapi32.dll installed, I received the following error
 on startup:
 [...]

 Try deleting the registry key
 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mozilla\Desktop\Mapi_backup_dll (if it
 exists, that is :).

No key; I even did a registry search.
 [...]

OK Frank, here is what I've done (it's Friday night I'm going sailing
this weekend so figured I'd better test now):

Note: all of the following with the WindowsSearch.exe program installed.

1. Used fixmapi.exe to replace the mozilla SM mapi32.dll in \system32\ -
that version is MS 1.0.2536.0.
2. Purge SM - all (Windows 'Add or Remove Programs) deleted the
\mozilla\ folder in 'Documents and Settings'.
3. Rebooted installed SM 1.1.16 (complete - no quicklaunch). I only
ran a cursory check - browser works accepted making it my default
browser. Checked mapi32.dll - no change, it stayed the same.
4. Created a newsgroup account (news.mozilla.org) and accepted making SM
as the default mail application. Checked mapi32.dll - no change, it
stayed the same.
5. Purged SM 1.1.16 \mozilla\ folder and rebooted.
6. Installed SM 2.0a3 (most recent as my copy was a 'pre' version).
7. Repeated 3 above w/2.0a3 - Standard + all Optional Components
(interesting license agreement): Checked mapi32.dll - no change, it
stayed the same.
8. Repeated 4 above: Checked mapi32.dll - no change, it stayed the same
(MS version).

If I get time later I can try with the 4.0.835.1374 mapi32.dll to see if
that makes any difference + try with my old \mozilla\ data to see if
there is something in that causing the issue.

yeah, thats one option. Another is your zip program,

know win98 had one, but I can't find it in xp.

Thanks for the suggestions... however the only malware in this case is
SM replacing mapi32.dll in C:\windows\system32. It's quite simple to
reproduce:

1. Put original mapi32.dll in system32
2. Reinstall SM 1.1.1x and watch SM replace the existing mapi32.dll
with

it's own, and rename the previous mapi32.dll to mapi32_Mozilla.dll.

I remember the old NS doing the same. I wonder why SM still does that
and yet FF/TB doesn't.

sorry to say, but mine didn't do that

Your NS? Or SM? It was a big issue with NS.

 Hi,
I have just upgraded to Seamonkey.

 Michael
Are you sure you have to restart SeaMonkey in order for the Enable
 JavaScript
option to be recognized? I've never had to do that.
Only if he had Quick Launch enabled and turned it off.

 Michael
The OP was talking about enabling Java Script. I've been able to enable
and disable Java Script and have it affect the web page (after re-loading
 the page) without stopping/restarting SeaMonkey.

 Mark,
My point is that if the OP had Quick Launch enabled when the JavaScript
would not work on the web page, and he enabled JavaScript the Quick
Launch may have kept the original setting in memory and executed the
 page with JavaScript from memory.

Disabling Quick Launch and closing SM then opening SM starts a fresh
instance of SM with no instructions kept in the Quick Launch memory.

 Michael

However, I am consistently able to enable and disable JavaScript while a
Web page is currently being displayed. If that page has scripts, they
work or don't work according to whether JavaScript is enabled or
disabled. The change of status for JavaScript is indeed effective when
I make that change. There is no remembering of a prior status.

Occasionally (e.g., with Web pages for the Vanguard Group at
https://personal.vanguard.com/VGApp/hnw/home), I find scripts within a
page that load external scripts. If JavaScript is disabled while
loading such a page, I must reload the page after enabling JavaScript in
order to get the full functionality of the page, part of which is
supplied by the external script. (I find this really annoying because
SeaMonkey temporarily freezes while the external script is requested and
downloaded.)

I disable and enable JavaScript so often that I have a PrefBar checkbox
to do it. I never have to terminate and relaunch SeaMonkey when
changing the JavaScript status.

I agree in general - I use linux. However, that doesn't negate the fact
that the SM mapi32.dll causes issues with quite new recent MS
applications. I'd much prefer to find a fix so that SM doesn't interfere
with other applications. Further, if you read the bug provided by
Philip, there are other, more critical applications that this affects
(Groupwise Outlook for example). I think it better to spend some time
resolving the issue rather than having new users experience issues with
applications that they chose to install on their systems.

From what I know using TB, this isn't an issue any longer. It was when
I used NS, and I don't have SM installed.

You were talking about the first 2, then later added
