Can't get permission set for my music drive in SAMBA. I have it set the
same as I did with pcP 5.0, using the music same drive, as it was. I can

I guess I just want to know if it is working in 6.0

Many thanks Man in a van. Some how I managed to miss that I needed to be
in Beta mode to configure the Dac. missed that. I saw the Dac listed,

it.

Also, apologies to all in this thread if I cross posted. Chalk it up to

Is there a way of seeing what the CPU load is at any given point within
PCP. I can see the CPU temperature (under diagnostics) but it would be
good to see how hard the CPU is working at the same point? I'm thinking
along the lines of Max2Play which shows the CPU load in conjunction with
the temperature.

It looks like we're on our own now with WiringPi. Gordon won't be
supporting it any more. His blog post 'here'
(http://wiringpi.com/wiringpi-deprecated/) makes his reasons quite
clear, and the 10,000 emails seem to be one of the main considerations.

He says he'll be posting the source code one last time, but then no more
public releases.

I don't think he ever did release a version that would have made sbpd
work on the RPi4, so it's great that Paul was able to take that on on
our behalf.

It seems to default to 1780 720 but I everything is a little too large.

When I alter it to 1920 1080 the resolution is fine.

I'm only seeingthis (see what I did there?) since the new rpi4b.

I'll check a 3b and 3b+ sometime soon.

Hi I use max2play for the LMS part of my network and it has always
worked well . I have always struggled to picoreplayer to work as my LMS
my issue I find it hard to get my USB HD mounted so that LMS can find
the music files . I know that this is just my issue and it could be
easily solved so please this is not any slight on your software just me
being a technical idiot.

SoMax2play issued a Beta download for Pi 4 which I used as soon as it
was available and have been running it ever since . The LMS runs really
well and happy , but I found issues with using max2play as the player
software. Player would be found and work initially then they would
dissapear as a player from LMS . Tried a few clean installs but the same
issue kept happening . This was both for a JustBoom Digi on an Rpi3 +
and an Rpi 4 2GB with HiFiberry Digi Pro .

In the end as i just wanted to listen to music decided to instead load
picoreplayer 5.1 for the JustBoom and 6.0 Beta for the Pi4 . Both loaded
easily using balena etcher (thanks Ronnie for this tip much easier) and
then it was just the case of setup the usual changing names for easy
identification , choosing the Digi cards etc .

Just to let you know in both cases this worked perfectly and both units
are instantly listed by LMS and play without a hitch . Sound is also
very stable and solid which is better now I am using RPi 4GB as the LMS
server contros for all things are much smoother and quicker at in my
view the same levels as very expensive stand alone streamers for a
fraction of the money .

So I think this is how I will continue going forward Max2play for LMS
and picore for the players . Thank you for your work and effort to make
this software available and to keep it working .

I think you'll find that Jivelite will not work OOTB, you'll need to
edit config.txt and set the screen resolution

Code:

  # uncomment to force a console size. By default it will be display's size
minus
  # overscan.
  framebuffer_width=1920
  framebuffer_height=1080

I have my rpi4b (4gb) connected to a monitor.

I thought to try Jivelite

The pi boots and seems to complete, I don't know if it is absolutely
finish.

The monitor screen displays the verbose output and blinks every 2
seconds or so, this blick, which is not on the screen long enough for my
old eyes to read says;

PicorePlayer
Squeeze-Audio Dev

I think.

It just stays blinking like this.

Goes on the kernel command line. cmdline.txt on the boot drive. Make
sure that when you edit it, it does not line wrap. cmdline.txt must
only be a single line file.

It is not a cli command but do these go into one of the 3 user commands
at the bottom of the tweaks tab ?

burn and image, and put a file called 'netusb' on the boot partition.
Although I have to say, I just tested this and saw an error message that
the mount failed to setup a loop device. I thought this was fixed in
the new mount but obviously not.

add max_loop=100 to the command line for now, that will make the kernel
create all of the loop devices at boot time, rather than dynamically.
(Of course if you need more that 100 extensions mounted, you can use a
higher value.

I fiddled around with spare hardware and tried to setup a set of pcp6
nodes separate from the working ones.
A cloned SD for the Pi4 started without any issues in the pi3Bplus, but
the boot seamed shorter, especially the wired nic initialisation.

But I failed to get a pi zero going with an USB wired nic.
I remembered to get net-usb installed to recognise the hardware but on
this 6.00.B1 attempt it did not work.
Perhaps the repository version isn't matching this build?
Can anyone remind me on the correct way to install USB nic support?

I have just performed the USB firmware upgrade on a rpi4b (4gb) just
running LMS.

The pi is on my desk, no case, suported by a BIC (other biro's are
available) just to allow some ait to circulate underneath the board :p

This is the temp chart with the pi at idle

27712

Steve I'm not sure if spaces are allowed in the name, check by expanding
the red word more at the top of the box.

Also make sure that you have installed the extra files (in the box above

If your usb is is formatted exFat then you need to enabled that as well.

Hi Ronnie.you call your "mounted" file Music (see photo), but if I
use a flash drive and call it my music file "steves mp3 player" so I
take it this is what I should rename it to on this file (see photo) or
should I rename my flash drive "music" like you, is there anything else
significant to do here ?

Greg - is there a file somewhere with the stored temperature data? I'd
like to visualise the data over a longer period than the 20-minute

I've got it working too. And old issue bit me in the xxx again;

You can not switch audio outputs reliably while you have the alsa
equalizer installed.
Best to uninstall the equalizer , reboot, set analogue, reboot, test
output, and then move on with another output.

Indeed that is fast at 2K songs per minute it is twice as fast as my
initial test;
6K songs on local usb3 disk @ 6 minutes => 1K songs a minute

But are we really using the all the new pi its potential ?
I just screwed up the SD as it had only a 200 MB partition, and had the
LMS cache still pointing at /mnt/mmcblk0p2/somewhere while doing the
first scan. It ran out of data, prevented any orderly shutdown, and
finally did only boot tinycore without PCP sauce.
With perhaps 3 gig ram spare it could have prevented the diskspace to
run out , and come up with some alternative like a reasonable message.

Just wondering...

Is there any way to make the HDD that's attached to the Pi visible on
the network?

i.e. when using a NAS as the LMS server, I can easily add new music to
it wirelessly across the network.

Is there any way to do that using PCP?

Otherwise I'd need some form of direct connection to the HDD in order to
add new music.

It will use more space during a scan. I would probably move the one
cache over to the usb3 drive.

Oh I'm sure - SSDs just fly...

I connected a recent backup to the Pi now - it's a 4TB WD red (7200rpm)
drive that contains about 130,000 FLAC files.

Complete, initial scan took just over 1hr - I could have saved 5 mins by
pointing to an empty "Playlists" folder instead of using the main FLACs
folder (i.e. it rescanned the whole library looking for playlists - when
I don't have any!)

Performance from the Pi is still really snappy.

With just LMS installed, no extras etc, PCP looks like it's using about
560MB of the 2GB partition I created for it.

Without having added/changed any files, a incremental rescan
(new/changed files) takes about 11 mins (2 mins of that was scanning the
whole library for playlists again though)

2019-07-14 Thread M-H

I've got some issue's to get my piCorePlayer v6.0.0-b1 on a pi4x4
connected to a BT speaker ( clip3 )
As it is my first attempt, I am not sure I am not making any beginner
mistakes here.
So please hint me in the right direction.

The set ( pi and speaker ) have worked before in Raspbian Buster, but
just converted the set to PCP.
Wifi is on , but not configured as I do run the set wired, and to lazy
to put a soft-ap on it.

'Scan' does not find anything ( and I made sure at least 2 never
connected phones were visible at the same time )
pair , select and forget falldown menus are empty.

bt log shows:

Code:

bcm43xx_init
  Flash firmware /usr/local/lib/firmware/brcm/BCM4345C0.hcd
  Set BDADDR UART: **mac**
Set Controller UART speed to 300 bit/s
  Device setup complete
  RPi Bluetooth Hardware Address: **MAC**
  Powering on the BT controller
  Success.
  Device /dev/mmcblk0p1 could not connect
  Last message repeated 70 times.
  Device /dev/mmcblk0p1 could not connect
  Last message repeated 200 times.

The odd thing is /dev/mmcblk0p1 is the block device or partition that
was not mounted at first, and after I mounted that manually it continues
to warn about it.

Is this an error in the software of is the error between the screen and
chair ? Anyone got it up and running on this beta and a pi4 ?

You're a star!

That's exactly what it was.

I resized the pCP partition from (I think) 200MB to 2GB, re-installed
LMS and re-scanned everything and it's working!

Thanks so much for replying with that suggestion...

For those who might be interested, the Pi 4 scanned 8000 MP3s (full
initial scan) in about 7 minutes.

It's super-fast and responsive in use.

Later today I'll connect up a drive with the full library and see how it
handles that.

Update: it seems that it's once LMS has done it's full scan that
everything stops working.

The library is only about 8000 MP3s, I'm sure that's not "too much" for
the Pi4 to handle? (I hope not - my eventual plan is to give it the
full, c130k track library to manage)

But having run the initial full scan, when I click on (say) "Albums" on
the main LMS page, that's when everything hangs/stops working.

I just updated to the latest nightly build (just in case that helps) and
the same thing's happening...

Many Thanks ! got my Pi4x4 up and running in no time.
Funny detail; Restarted my Pi with pCP from a working raspbian buster
setup with squeezelite running , and the running LMS recognized the
'new' player with its MAC and resumed audio in synch with the others
playing . Defaults of output through audiojack of course.

Feedback to the team: The default wired 1 Gig NIC seems a bit slow to be
recognized .
0 sec - power on
18 sec - most relevant software in RAM and starting network (screen
output : waiting for network )
30 sec - link led turns on
44 sec - network initialised: ( screen output ... Done (59).
45 sec - first audio

The delay between 18 and 30 seems to be the nic driver that needs to
complete the initialization
The delay between 30 and 44 seems the DHCP, and I will see if I can find
any delay from my DHCP server response.

Anyhow, it is not a complaint :-) just feedback.
Thank you for the quick start on the pi4 development.

I have no idea what happened. It was a 1TB 3.5" disk from an old NAS
that was sat in a USB3 dock thing, one of these:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Inateck-Docking-Station-Function-Tool-free/dp/B00LN0GX4I

Anyway, I got another HDD, stuck the MP3 library on it and tried again.

Seemed to be working (installed the NTFS file system support for the new
drive) and got LMS up and running.

The first scan seemed to be very quick (think it just found the folders
again, no music). Manually ran another scan and that seemed to find
everything.

However, LMS seems unresponsive now - e.g. the main LMS main page never
seems to finish loading.

I can click "Settings" (bottom right on the LMS main page), and that
loads. But the main page doesn't.

I've tried powering it all off and on again, starting/stopping LMS etc
and same thing happens.

Also, when I stop/start LMS or reboot the Pi, LMS seems to "forget" the
mount point. It's still there in PCP config, but when I click on
"Configure LMS", it makes me pick the mount point again...

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] BETA: piCorePlayer6.0.0 - PI4 support

2019-07-13 Thread PugRallye

Not quite sure what's happened here, but any help welcomed.

Got piCorePlayer up and running on my RPi4, installed LMS and created a
mount to an external USB disk

Went into LMS and got it to do a scan

It found c350 folder, but no MP3s

Tried various different things (reboots etc) and then PCP started saying
something about the mount point had changed?

Anyway, the external HDD is now totallt borked - can't mount it in
Windows etc - constant "device not ready" or the disk format is RAW,
can't do anything with Windows Disk Manager etc.

Windows Disk Manager sees the disk (i.e. it's "Disk 1" and it's "not
initialised") when I try to initialise it, once again I just get "The
device is not ready" again.

Looks totally screwed.

Any thoughts on a) what might have happened, and b) if there's anything
I can do to recover the disk?

Thanks,

First impressions: Running LMS and Squeezelite seem to provide only a
very light load to the 4B. CPU temperature seems to be dominated by the
ambient temperature and limited airflow inside my amplifier enclosure.
So with the amplifier powered up and playing music from Squeezelite, the
CPU sits in the mid- to high-60s. I can easily get it into the low 70s
by doing something more demanding, like transcoding a FLAC album with
oggenc, but for the majority of the time when it's just being a server
and a player the temperature seems under control.

I realise this is not an ideal environment for a device that may be
marginal on heat, and I may end up swapping the 3B+ back in, but the
extra responsiveness of the server, quicker library scans, and even the
faster reboots are all nice to have. I suppose I don't really need the
server to be running on this device, so I could even put an older Pi in
there and just run Squeezelite on it, and run LMS on the 4B externally,
but my target was always to have an all-in-one integrated amp.

I've figured out what stops my sbpd command line from working, but not
why. When I add the command line parameter to specify the address of
the server, the command fails, and none of the buttons work. I've tried
'-A 192.168.1.47' and '-A 192.168.1.47:9000'. Is that the correct
syntax? Adding the MAC address with '-M dc:a6:32:03:82:22' works, and
I've got the -A parameter immediately after the MAC address parameter.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] BETA: piCorePlayer6.0.0 - PI4 support

2019-07-12 Thread chill

A heads-up for anyone who uses a push button to toggle their pCP on and
off: there's another new feature in the RPi 4B. The halt command
apparently puts the device into a very low power state, from which it
can no longer be woken by grounding GPIO3. One of my front panel
buttons is dedicated to doing a safe shutdown (using the pCP shutdown
overlay), and I had used GPIO3 for this specifically so that the same
button could be used to wake the device.

There is a way to reinstate this behaviour though. 'This post'
on the Raspberry Pi forum details how to tweak the on-board bootloader.
The downside apparently is that after this tweak the 4B will draw more
power once halted than the 3B does, but in my case I felt that the
benefit of being able to toggle the 4B on and off with the same button
outweighed this extra current draw, since my 4B will rarely be halted
like this. So I went ahead and applied the tweak, and now the old
behaviour is working again.

drop the verbose output on the command line, unless you are specifcially
debugging.

Just put the line into a file. Make sure you set the executable flag
(chmod 755 name-of-scriptfile)User commands get ran as root, so no
need to use sudo.

It's also good practice to put the required interpreter as the first
line of the script file

#!/bin/sh
/home/tc/spbd-script

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] BETA: piCorePlayer6.0.0 - PI4 support

2019-07-12 Thread chill

I've now configured the 4B to replicate my 3B+, ready to switch it over
into my amplifier enclosure. I have 9 buttons, each with a short and
long press, so I have quite a long string to define all the button
commands in sbpd:

Code:

sbpd -v -d -f /home/tc/sbpd_commands.cfg b,27,POWR,2,0,RSRT,2000
b,23,PREV,2,0,PLAY,500 b,22,MIX-,2,0,MUTE,500 b,24,PAUS,2,0,STOP,500
b,25,MIX+,2,0,VMAX,500 b,12,NEXT,2,0 b,19,PRE1,2,0,PRE4,500
b,13,PRE2,2,0,PRE5,500 b,16,PRE3,2,0,PRE6,500

This turns out to be close to the maximum length of string (255) that
can be accommodated in the User Commands section of pCP. So it doesn't
allow me enough characters to define the player's MAC address for
instance (which I'd like to do to guarantee that the buttons on the
front of the amplifier only affect the player connected to the
amplifier's DAC).

I've tried to get around this by putting the sbpd command string into a
script file and then executing that script file from the user commands
section, but I haven't been able to get that to work. I'd like it to
run as a daemon, exactly as the above code, but I found I needed to add
an ampersand to the end of the command in the script file (otherwise
pCP/LMS ran very slowly), and even after doing that the buttons did not
seem to work, even with a 'sudo' before the command. The command
configuration seemed to be set up correctly according to the on-screen
messages, but the buttons didn't work.

So two questions.
1) How can I put that string into a script file? Or,
2) Is there any chance that the limit of 255 characters could be raised
a bit? I guess that's coming from the pCP interface, but is there any
limit to the length of the sbpd parameter string?

Off-topic I agree - I was planning to post photos etc in the pi-based
players thread if I ever get the front and back panels finished! It's
an integrated amp with 6 channels of Hypex UcD400OEM, a Hypex DLCP DSP,
and an internal Raspberry Pi (with panel-mounted push buttons) occupying
the USB input to the DLCP. The enclosure currently has a hardboard
front panel and no rear panel at all. Just needs a final push to order
the panel customisations, but this is supposed to be a winter hobby!

What kept you? :-)

Excellent, thanks Paul. I updated to your version 2.53, and the basic
checks with the gpio command worked ok.

Code:

gpio -g mode 24 in
  gpio -g mode 24 up

...sets the value to 1

Code:

  gpio -g mode 24 down

...sets it to 0

With it set to 'up', shorting pin 24 to GND via an attached button
changed the value to 0.

So then I tried my sbpd command string and my button PCB, and it all
seems to work correctly as it used to on the 3B+, i.e. the intended
functions are being triggered with each short or long press.

So thank you Paul, that seems to have fixed it.

For some reason I can't now get LMS to start on this device, so haven't
been able to test the final step, i.e. that the commands do what's
configured.

I know nothing about perl, but that error doesn't look like it could
have been caused by the new version of wiringpi, so I'll reload the

Essentially though, if the cpu remains 100% busy and you are not

thread suggests that wiringpi has been updated to suit, so either that's
not completely correct or I'm missing something.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] BETA: piCorePlayer6.0.0 - PI4 support

2019-07-10 Thread chill

I did a few more tests with wiringpi. From my perspective everything
points to there being a problem with the current version (2.52) on an
RPi 4B.

What I've done:
1) I tried my fully configured pCP6.0.0 beta1 SD card in a 3B+
(configured with LMS, Squeezelite etc, plus Paul's repackaged wiringpi
version 2.52). Setting the pull-up or pull-down resistor on an input
pin will result in the pin taking a value of '1' or '0' respectively.
This is as it should be I believe.
2) With the same SD card in a 4GB 4B, setting the resistors has no
effect on the pin value.
3) I also tried it in a 1GB 4B - same result, i.e. the pin value does
not change in response to setting the resistor.
4) I then tried a Raspbian Buster Lite image, and updated the wiringpi
package to 2.52 using Gordon's instructions 'here'
Same result on the 1G 4B - setting the resistor has no effect on the
pin value.

So the wiringpi version in pCP seems to be behaving the same way as it
does in Raspbian, which is to say that I cannot setup an input pin so
that shorting it to GND will change its value.

Hi,

there are reports on network issues concerning rpi4, maybe there is a
bug in Ethernet/PHY driver; see:

https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/issues/3034#issuecomment-507378119

best wishes pbg4

2019-07-10 Thread d6jg

Just to advise I have now experienced NFS mount issues - not many but
enough to indicate that there may be an issue that needs addressing.

My Pi4 is wired.
My NAS is also wired (obviously).
I am using a standard NFS mount - no vers= declared as default is
working.
The NAS is mounted by a number of other network devices with zero
issue.
On some Pi4 reboots the mounts fails on others (most) it is fine
I think the Pi4 is trying to mount before the network is fully up.
While testing the Pi4 is DHCP but of course as an LMS server I would
reserve or make static so it could be the DHCP server (my Draytek
router) taking too long to issue an IP.
Perhaps the boot sequence needs to be altered or more checks put in
place before the mount command is run?

Confirmed. I went back to the raw pCP6.0.0-b1 image, and am unable to
write a value to an output pin. But after the update I can. Same
version number (2.52) but different behaviour, and still not working for
input pins.
