Not much chance of fixing the element. I've never seen anyone accomplish
that.

I've never seem mine do that. There could be scale build up or something
causing it or the element could be bad. It could be a loose wire but that's
probably not the problem.

I've had really good luck removing them by letting brew pressure push it
out most of the way. I put the portafilter on, flip the lever, and as the
pressure builds I remove the portafilter. Water usually gets under the
gasket and breaks it loose. A time or two I also screwed a screw into the
gasket
like the IMS, esp

Thanks for the tip on the gasket, I'll give it a shot.

I'm using an 8.5 and a 9.0 would probably work fine. I wouldn't go any
thinner.

I have a naked portifilter in mine too. Sorry it's been on so long I forgot
I changed it. I bought my BII in 2005 and got the portafilter at the same
time. I probably have a lot of wear on mine but it works great!

It's hard to tell. You could probably solder a wire to jump it but you
still need to find out what caused it to burn.

I think you're right on the switch. I had issues that were caused by a
faulty switch and pushing the button cured them. My button had broken but I
put a paperclip in the hole and pressed it and it started working again.
