I don't get why Rush is being snarky here, but I'll give a simple, civil
response: I have little enough privacy already, without choosing to give up

For special applications. Fine.
But I tell people the 200W of solar panels on my EV's roof are only 0.1%
cost effective! The smaller cells cost TEN times the cost of home solar
panels per watt and my home has 100 times more surface area. Hence 1000
times better to collect solar for my EV from

This, and the creepy constant monitoring, are the main reasons I will never

Thanks for your insights Bob but your thinking is old and your numbers are way
off. It is possible to buy individual cells on Ebay for very reasonable
prices. I can make a 375 watt panel for under 500 dollars for my small trike
project(charges the 4kw battery in 10 or 11 hours) so charging

Interesting comment... I guess David doesn't have any credit cards, because
they are constantly monitored every time you use them and can be stopped
anytime, and I guess David doesn't have a cell phone, because they are monitored
constantly and can be cut off anytime. But David does use the

A "house style" 330 watt solar panel weighs around 50 lbs, so ten of
them would be 500 lbs, leaving 2500 for the rest of your vehicle.
Flexible or thin film panels weigh less, but require even more surface area.
If you use the solar panels "as" your roof you at least get to put that
weight to

Nothing 'snarky' at all David. Just pointing out that the reason you stated for
not buying a Tesla is pretty pointless in today's age of information exchange.
Which I might add is going to get worse with the new Internet deregulations
being signed into place.

You can't use standard heavy panels. You must use cells configured properly
and self encapsulate using special plastic heat shrink and a hot air gun. They
must be integrated into the roof of the vehicle. I've seen it done. This is
much lighter and makes for a working solar vehicle.
