OK, it may not be a problem after all. I rebooted my computer (shuts
down VAC) and now all seems to be working OK. Windows. Go figure.

What soundcard are you using? I had this happen when using a Delta 44
and the issue was that some other windows program changed the variable
signal levels to a value that the SDR didn't like. P14 does an auto set
of the signal levels for the Firebox and Delta 44.

I am one of the first to report the CPU increase issue. I am using a
NVIDIA GeForce 6200 (latest drivers DirectX).
Turning off write combing made little difference. Eliminating hardware
acceleration made CPU utilization go higher.

It looks like the C3 CPU (With SSE support and a larger L2 cache, which
is better suited for the PowerSDR) is x86 instruction set clone, but no
where do I see where on their web site that indicates that they are
Windows 2000/XP supported. They are Win98 and NT supported, but

I tried it. I got it to decode, and somewhat encode with MixW, but the
levels were very low. Lots of pops and skips in addition to the ladies
voice saying trial every 5 seconds.
I don't see any reason I am going to upgrade to 4.00 since I have had
3.x less than 3 months and there is no discount

VAC 4.x is not supported by PowerSDR yet. Bob says there some bugs that
need to be fixed. Version 3.12 is the one supported by Flex.

I made changes to how the SDR1K was wired and used isolation
transformers to achieve that goal. There are several great web sites
describing how to do this (NU9N K4QKY just to mention two).

Do you have a sound scheme turned on?
Check Control Panel-Sounds and Audio Devices-Sounds.
The Sound Scheme should be set to No Sounds to eliminate the
possibility of Windows oriented QRM.

Yep, That was me who reported it. There is a little too much back
pressure generated between the fan and the vents. You can trace a nice
octagon around the air intake holes by drawing tangents on the existing
holes.
5 minutes with a Dremel tool and a cutting wheel and you are in
business.
