hi.
Well I just completed the game on easy.
I must say the platform was a bit of a timing thing.
And the lamier.
I was able to hit it with my pistal then my shotgun.
But I got seriously malled.
By far the best thing to do it is charge with your sword if you are lucky
enough to have one.
I was able to charge and handle the lamier in one go without getting to
much dammage.

Ok I probably got hit heaps but I was able to cause serious dammage.

Hello,

I found a rather fun but quite serious pause bug in MOTA. It is possible
to

fire your weapon while the game is paused, and you will actually do damage
if you're pointing at an enemy. This makes combat extremely easy.

Hi,

Oh, can't let a bug like this slide. It makes it too easy to cheat.
Especially, with the more difficult levels and monsters. The entire
point of beta 17 is to increase the speed, challenge, and over all
replay value of the game.

Hi,

Exactly. In beta 17 items can end up on any level in the game. It
makes finding certain weapons, ammo, etc harder than before because
they can appear in just about any room on any level. As you say it is
the luck of the draw. I'm hoping this degree of random placement will
make the game more replayable.

Hi Nicol,

baseco2 is a commercial for Alka Seltzer which is a remedy for an upset

baseco4 is a commercial for two candy bars. Almond Joy has nuts, mounds don't.

baseco5 is a commercial for Cracker Jack. candy coated popcorn, peanuts and a
prize. All in a box.

baseco8 is a commercial for Shafer beer. An inexpensive light beer.

baseco12 is a commercial for a Texaco service station. You know where you buy

putting in numbers of the access code to go to next level, in fact I never
finished the game due to the random deaths.

Imho it was very cheaky of tdl games to attempt to sell the thing in the

 play.

Re: [Audyssey] mota

2011-02-03 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Hayden,

Well, I guess I didn't think about it much, but you are essentially
correct. Even though the Iliad and Odyssey were written in the iron
age the events contained in them happened during the bronze age. We
have plenty of archeological evidence that many of the battles and
travels discussed in the Greek mythologies happened more or less as
described. Troi was sacked in the late bronze age by Greek warriors,
and burned completely to the ground. An archeological dig in southern
Turkey has uncovered a semetary of hundreds of bronze age female
warriors, perhaps the legendary Amazons, who could have easily been in
contact with bronze age Greeks, and were later made famous through
Homer's Iliad and other Greek works. Haracles, better known as the
mighty Hercules, seams to have prefered clubs and weapons of that
nature suggesting the origens of those stories are from an earlier
time period than the one in which they were written down by Greek
scholars and story tellers.

All the same there are plenty of modern interpretations that place
events a lot later in history. For example, in the popular television
show, Hercules Legendary Jurnies, the show seams to take place well
into the iron age at the time Rome was ruled by Julious Cesar. The
popular television show, Xena Warrior Princess, also takes place in
the iron age and Julious Cesar often shows up as one of the villains
on the program. So one need not necessarily put all of the Greek
mythologies in a strict bronze age period.

For one thing there is some historical presidents for using a later
time period. After the Greeks were concored by Rome the Romans
naturally took all of the Greek classics and began to translate them
from Greek to Latin. As a result a lot of names of people, places, and
things got renamed. Instead of the Greek god Poseidon the Romans
replaced him with their god Neptoon. Instead of the Greek god Hades he
was replaced with the Roman god Pluto. Heroes like Haracles were
renamed Hercules. The Greek hero, Odysseus, was replaced by the Roman
hero, Ulysses. Monsters like Kerberos were renamed Cerberus. On and
on we can go. The point being the Romans weren't as interested in
telling the tails from the point of the bronze age, but more from a
more contemperary iron age time period.

In the end it could go either way. I mean it is true the bronze age is
the most likely origen of the stories passed down through to us
through a lot of the Greek classics. However, modern interpretations
such as movies and television shows seam to stick to the Roman
interpretation of events than the classic Greek. Certainly Americans
tend to use the Latin names more than the Greek names such as
Hercules, Ulysses, Cerberus, etc and there is no real reason not to
use the Greek names. I suppose it is a matter of preference.

Getting back to the point if you think I should put the bronze dagger
back in that would be a quick and easy fix. It isn't a big deal to me
either way. No one has really said how old this tomb is or when it was
built. So it could go either way.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] commercials in jim's baseball game

Hi Hayden,

You got that right. I don't know what happened but television
commercials have really gone down hill over the last twenty years or
so. I still remember commercials from when I was a kid that had little
tunes and jangles that would stick in your head forever. Even now I
remember all the words to the Jucy Fruit bubble gum commercial,
remember most of the Coke commercials, remember several Pepci
commercials, etc. Over the last few years the commercials just don't
get my attention the way the older commercials use to. They've lost
something.

Hello,

I found a rather fun but quite serious pause bug in MOTA. It is possible
to
fire your weapon while the game is paused, and you will actually do
damage

if you're pointing at an enemy. This makes combat extremely easy.

Hi,

Yeah, enemies can miss. Just because a centaur shoots an arrow, a
skeleton takes a slash at your head, or a hharpy tries to claw you it
doesn't mean it will connect. Part of the reason for ducking,

Hi,

Hmmm...I don't think that would work. Besides bug fixes, which there
are a handful I just fixed, you won't get level 2 without installing
beta 18. So sticking with beta 17 will be, well, not that desirable
for anyone in the long run.

Re: [Audyssey] Super Egg Hunt 1.3 Preview

2011-02-03 Thread Kai

"More of an amateur recording than a professional one."
I'm sure such considerations weren't exactly at the top of his to-do list.
it was intended as an informal demonstration, not a professional
presentation. And honestly, if he's not getting paid to produce the preview
for a game which he's offering gratis, why does it matter whether or not the
recording was "amateur" or "professional"?

Back to relevancy:
The preview was indeed amusing, and nicely demonstrates the capabilities of
the upcoming release. The update concept is also a neat addition.

Small point, but for fluency's sake, you might make the game wait to finish
saying sending score, even if it doesn't take that long. Of course, others
would probably prefer speed rather than verbosity.

Point of curiosity: Did you rewrite Super Egg Hunt with BGT? I seem to
remember you having mentioned something to this effect. If so, was it
actually easier than with the old code?

Hi,

Thanks for the bug report. Unfortunately, you are the only person who has
reported this particular issue so I don't as yet have any idea what is
causing the issue. Understand I haven't experienced this issue myself so
something like that might be extremely difficult to fix assuming it is a bug

Hello,

I found a rather fun but quite serious pause bug in MOTA. It is possible
to
fire your weapon while the game is paused, and you will actually do
damage

if you're pointing at an enemy. This makes combat extremely easy.

Grin. You'll keep on looking then. There isn't one. The closest thing
is the enchanted weapons which are specifically designed to slay big
nasty monsters.

Cheers!

They've lost creativity. They've lost, in some cases, the art of speech.
There are commercials which have no speaking in them, which sell a lot of
merchandise to those who go to the kitchen, bathroom, or wherever else in
the house because they know that commercials are on. No longer will you
wonder where the yellow went when you brush your teeth with Pepsodent, and
you won't see the USA in your Chevrolet.

They've lost
something.

Cheers!

Hi,

In deed. Not only that but I am working on timed locks in beta 18. Not
only will you have to react faster, but if you don't open certain
statues and doors with in a certain time limit they will relock. This
is a classic puzzle element of the Tomb Raider games that drives me
crazy, but lots of fun too.

Re: [Audyssey] commercials in jim's baseball game

2011-02-03 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Charles,

Sad but true. I think one of the reasons commercials were better back
in the early days of television is simply because the major television
networks CBS, NBC, ABC, etc gave each company a 30 second time slot to
say there piece and be done with it. They'd stick maybe three or four
commercials into a comercial break and get back to the programming.
For that reason an hour long show ended up being 55 or 56 minutes long
with only four or five minutes left over for commercials. With such a
short time slot companies had to get really creative about what they
said and did in that 30 seconds of promotional time. Something like
"the best part of waking up is Foldgers in your cup" or "I'd like to
buy the world a Coke and keep it company" sticks in your mind the way
modern commercials don't. They always left you a sense of excitement
and joy about the product they were selling.

For example, I can remember being about three or four years old, and
there was this Coke commercial where everyone was dancing on the
screen to the music. No matter what I was doing I'd get up and dance
to the music and try and imitate the dancers on the screen. As I
recall the words went something like "The stars will always shine and
the birds will always sing as long as you got the real thing. Always
Coca-Cola."

That's not quite right, but close enough. The thing was the music and
commercial was interesting enough to draw me away from whatever I was
doing eating, playing, etc to watch that particular commercial. Now,
days I could care less what comercials are on. I usually leave the
room to do something else rather than watch the comercials because
most are pretty boring.

Part of that is that the networks, always interested in getting more
money, give us less programming and more commercials. Most of the
commercials are 60 seconds long or longer giving the companies more
chance to talk about the product, and to make longer skits. The only
problem is with there new approach is I usually don't remember what
the commercial was about by the time the commercial break is over.
There wasn't anything that really captured my attention. Lol!

Cheers!

The reason I don't have it wait to finish saying sending score was both for
speed and to kind of show off how fast the process is.
Yes. I've rewritten it using BGT, and I'm honestly glad I did. There are so
many things I did better such as classes and stuff that vb made trickyer.

Two questions, possibly related. First, how do I access mouse support for
BGT? You also mentioned monsters that can follow paths. (Thanks, by the
way for the tutorial. I've been looking it over, and even if I don't use
BGT it'll help me understand all the "new" stuff introduced by vb.net.)
Yeah yeah, it's what? Six years old now? Oh well...

Second, (and I'm not sure what language I'm going to be programming this
in,) I was looking at Air Hockey and I thought, "Shuffleboard--that would be
cool!"
So I need an equation to find out how one circle impacts another upon
collision. Collision detection itself isn't a problem for me--you basically
just subtract the distance from the center of one circle to that of another,
and if it equals the circles' radii, they collided. But there's that little
matter of what happens next--does the putt go straight, diagonally, right or
left, and how far?

Any thoughts would be helpful.

Re: [Audyssey] MOTA beta 17

2011-02-03 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi,

No, not necessarily. Usually, in the Tomb Raider games if you get
locked out of a room or something you can just walk back to the
correct pressure switch, lever, whatever the case might be and repush
it again. Then, run back to the door, statue, gate, etc and open it.
It is usually a case of being locked out rather than locked in.

In the few caseswhere a door or something locks behind you it is an
area of the level you never have to revisit anyway. So don't worry
about being locked in. I wouldn't do that, and most of the Tomb Raider
games never did that either.

Cheers!

Hi,

In deed. Not only that but I am working on timed locks in beta 18. Not only
will you have to react faster, but if you don't open certain statues and
doors with in a certain time limit they will relock. This is a classic
puzzle element of the Tomb Raider games that drives me crazy, but lots of

Re: [Audyssey] commercials

2011-02-03 Thread Charles Rivard
Then again, listen to the game promos that have been produced to sell games
for the blind. Hearing a game being played entices you to buy. Pointing
out some of the neat features of a game through a commercial, of sorts,
hopefully gets sales. A game beta does even more, plus it helps to develop
a better game. But I'll bet, as an example, that a lot of people who
haven't already paid for the game that is now MOTA, after working with the
betas, will buy it.

Re: [Audyssey] my ramblings about programming: why I use vb

2011-02-03 Thread Ken the Crazy
We usually don't get that much snow, but over the last couple days we've
been getting hit very hard.
You know, I've kind of been thinking about a roller coaster game. We could
start simple--one coaster that you rev up by mouse movement, then click a
button and off it would go, moving through 3d audio space--and if you revved
it too high, crash--off the track it would fly! (This, of course, would be
merely a sim in later games to determine the top speed at which a coaster
should travel.) Of course, if your theme park became very famous, you could
improve the coasters so they stayed on track no matter how fast and how
sharp the turns. That kind of game is way beyond my limited skills though.
I'm much better at coming up with ideas than code.

Hi Ken,

Not actually close enough to Cedar Point to hear a trumpet. I'm just the
other side of Cleveland. I love Cedar Point though. You know the best
roller coaster park in the world. I sure do wish that the Roller Coaster

They often call Chardon the buckle of the snow belt east of Cleveland. We
often get the brunt of the lake effect snow. Been lucky this year. The

They've lost
something.

Cheers!

Yeah, a good third of the time allotted for commercials is now
1/3rd on some stations. I was watching Smallville with a sighted
friend, because he would describe the action to me. While he was
sitting there, telling me what was going on in the show, I was still
watching commercials, the station I was watching having chopped a good 7
minutes out of the program. After that, I simply stopped watching,
wrote a nasty letter to the station, and never looked back. Now I don't
watch TV at all.

the house because they know that commercials are on. No longer will you
wonder where the yellow went when you brush your teeth with Pepsodent,

They've lost
something.

Cheers!

Hi,

Hmmm...I don't think that would work. Besides bug fixes, which there
are a handful I just fixed, you won't get level 2 without installing
beta 18. So sticking with beta 17 will be, well, not that desirable
for anyone in the long run.

Hi Guys,
I understand all concerns regarding the Acefire cheat codes, although this
game has been thoroughly tested and we have found no such issues as of
yet.
If you still experience difficulties with the cheat codes please send us a
fully detailed bug report which may enable us to analyse the problem.
I may also remind those of you who are uncertain how to obtain the cheats
that you do need to collect 30 points on any levels above coward to earn

Thanks for the bug report. Unfortunately, you are the only person who has
reported this particular issue so I don't as yet have any idea what is
causing the issue. Understand I haven't experienced this issue myself so
something like that might be extremely difficult to fix assuming it is a bug

Hi again,

I am really not sure. Isn't it fair to demand that if people want to use the

though I am giving away too much, since people can use the engine completely

Hi Philip,

While I do understand your problem I do feel it would be wrong to
restrict someone from using mouse and joystick support, and force them
to purchase a more expensive license to have access to those devices.
One thing we are seriously lacking in accessible games is decent
quality support for joysticks, racing wheels, gamepads, mice, etc. I
just feel these features should be included along side keyboard
support.

As for pathfinding perhaps make that a pro feature. After all, it is a
more advanced feature of the engine and could reasonably considered a
Pro option. That's how I'd view it if I were in your position.

Cheers!

Hi Hayden,

Agreed. When I release an FPS version of Mysteries of the Ancients I
plan to use the same general layout as the Tomb Raider games. In that
sense the alt key will be asigned to jump. Here is the default
keyboard layout I have planned for the 3d FPS version.

Climb Down: control+down arrow
Climb Up: control+up arrow
Crouch/Crawl: c
Jump Backward: alt+down arrow
Jump Forward: alt+up arrow
Jump Left: alt+left arrow
Jump Right: alt+right arrow
Look Down: page down
Look up: page up
Perform Action: enter
Run Forward: up arrow
Sidestep Left: shift+left arrow
Sidestep Right: shift+right arrow
Step Backward: shift+down arrow
Step Forward: shift+up arrow
Turn Around: down arrow
Turn Left: left arrow
Turn Right: right arrow

As keyboard commands goes this is pretty par for mainstream games. I'm
sure it might be a bit weird from those coming from games like Sarah,
Shades of Doom, etc but as a long time mainstream gamer the keyboard
commands happen to be very natural to me, and what I'll be using. I'll
most likely have to add a few extra turn commands like control+left
and control+right to do right to next 90 and some things VI games
have, but over all the layout above is probably the best possible
layout for an FPS game like I have planned.

Re: [Audyssey] asefire cheats request

2011-02-03 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi,

And that's exactly why you fail. Keep telling yourself that, and you
will never succeed at anything. Part of winning a game, being
successful in life, or anything else is simply how you view it. If you
believe you will lose from the outset you probably will lose simply
because you don't have the grit, desire, and determination to do it.
You just give up before you start.
