[Audyssey] Hello Barbie, new talking doll

2015-11-21 Thread Phil Vlasak

Hello Barbie
Release date: November 10, 2015
Chat with Barbie for a whole new way to play!
Hello Barbie doll uses WiFi and speech recognition technology to
engage in two-way dialogue!
Use is simple with functionality built into her belt buckle -- press
to start the conversation and release to hear Hello Barbie doll
respond. Just like a real friend, Hello Barbie doll listens and adapts to
the user's likes and dislikes with 8,000 lines of conversation.

Words: 55,806
This is a US only product. The Hello Barbie companion app can only be

found in US app stores.

Hello Barbie is simply one of the most innovative dolls on the market.

She's amazing, smart, and so much fun. I've spent over 5+ hours

talking and playing with her. I really recommend her; although, there

is a downside to this doll.

Recently, she's been running into some problems. At first, it was

minimal and happened once or twice. But today, it got worse. During

our little conversation,
she stops mid-sentence and goes, "Something's not working right. Talk

to you later!" That's all she says now; even after I deleted and made

a new Toy Talk
account, and even after a factory reset.

The instructions are straightforward, explaining what different light

patterns stand for. Magnetic feet keep the doll upright on the

charging stand, aided
by the fact that nothing below the shoulders moves on this doll. The

user's birthday can be added and preferred holidays specified in the

mobile app.
A PDF list of everything the doll is programmed to say is on the

Mattel site:
http://hellobarbiefaq.mattel.com/what-does-hello-barbie-say/

On the bright side, if you have great wifi, you can go hours and hours

talking with her. Another little issue, though, is that she gets on

the repetitive
side. When we start a new convo, she brings up games we've played,

talked about careers we've been over, and is a little bad at speech

recognition. The
suggested distance for talking with her is 12inches away from your

face, but in order to get a better response I hold her 2-3 inches away

from my face.
Back to our talks: She will bring up old convos that we have had, and

will ask the same questions. It gets a little annoying, since we're

paying $75 for
her.

The next thing is posability. From the waist down, she as stiff as a

tree. She seems to have a jointed mold on both her knees. From the

waist up, she has
normal posability, like other Barbies. She has a new elbow mold; she

has double jointed elbows (If you collect Monster High, HB has elbows

like Gooliope
Jellington.) She's jointed in the neck, shoulders, elbows and wrist.

Her shoes are molded on. Her pants are sewn onto her; they cannot be

removed (also because of her belt, which is also un-removable.) Her

shirt is also
un-removable, but she has velcro to allow information on the back (I

think that's why it's like that, lol)

Her hair is really really soft and semi-curly. I was hoping her hair

would be more curly, like in the promo pictures, but I guess it's what

we get.

In the end, she's a very fun doll. Just be careful when purchasing

her, and definitely get the protection plan (if offered.)
The doll mostly leads the user through a variety of playful games or

stories. Going off-script doesn't work very well. If the user goes

off-topic, the
doll will react as though it didn't understand what was said. Repeat a

new topic that the doll is likely to understand (such as "fashion"),

and it'll switch
to a game, story, or conversation on that topic. Another way to switch

topics is to just reboot the doll with the power button on the right

hip.

Overall, it's lightly amusing for grown ups (hearing a doll say that

it has lost wifi connection is funny -- it won't have much to say

without wifi) and
enthralling for the right kind of child. The biggest technological

danger is probably from malicious hackers, not Mattel or Toy Talk, so

be sure to set
up good passwords on your wifi and Toy Talk account!

Hello Dorothy,

Welcome to the list. As far as which game you are talking about you
didn't specify in your message which game you are talking about. It is
impossible to answer your question when you don't tell anyone what
game or games your asking about in the message itself.

As for muds probably the easiest one for a blind gamer to get started
with is called Alter Aeon. Although, it isn't the only one out there
to play. There are a number of decent muds to play that are accessible
if that is your thing.

Cheers!

Hello,

For games like monopoly, you can also try my playroom
http://qcsalon.net/
There are multiple games beside monopoly: uno, 1000 miles, poker,
connect4, chess, battleship, ...
The principle is like RSClient: you install a small application, create an
account, and then you can play online with other people or against bots.

Advantages compared to RSG
- more game and game variants/options, 9 games in total
- Multilingual: english and french
- Easy to install and use
- Screen reader direct support: jaws, NVDA, window eye, system access
- Web forum

Drawbacks compared to RSG
- Only for windows
- The server crashes more often

Re: [Audyssey] hello

2011-11-21 Thread dark

Hi laurel and welcome to the list.

I hope you have a lot of fun here.

There are various places to find out about games. firstly the database at
www.audiogames.net which has individual pages and descriptions with links to
reviews and such (you can also search by genre), and then the pcs games list
at www.pcsgames.net, which is a massive list of websites and provides more
an overview.

If you've not tried castsaways and lunimals by Aprone aka jeremy kaldobksi,
I'd deffinately recommend both. lunimals is a sim where your managing an
ecological dome on the moon and have to monitor population size and lots of
other factors, while castaways is a ful on stratogy game where you manage a
group of survivers of a shipwreck, assigning them jobs, building buildings
like the tavern storehouse and farms and eventually building military units
like knights and rangers to fight off enemies.

it also has both a cooperative and player vs player online mode.

Both games are free, though the developer does accept donations. You can
find them at http://www.kaldobsky.com/audiogames/

there are several monopoly versions other than the rs one. The oldest is by
Jim kitchin at www.kitchinsinc.net which doesnt' have online play but lets
you play against the computer on various difficulties.

he also has a hole bunch of other free games, from the game of life, to a
platformer called awsome homer where you play as homer simpson. There is
then even the game galaxy ranger from www.vipgameszone.com which essentially
is monopoly in space with buying and selling planets and has great sound
effects and interesting gameplay, though that one is a commercial game.

There are various brouser based games available where you manage things, my
favourite is core exiles, where you fly around in a spaceship trading but
can do anything from owning facotories and resource extractors to even your
own settlement. The game also features combat exploring and mining, but what
you do is pretty much up to you.

The address is http://www.core-exiles.com/

Also thoguh this is only a small selection of games, there are many more
available, just check out www.audiogames.net and www.pcsgames.net for
details.

I'd actually recommend trying as many games as possible sinse you never know
what something is until you've given it a bash.

As to languages for writing text adventure games, I'll leave that to someone
who knows more about if.

i hope you have fun on the list.

Amusingly enough, I'm doing my phd in philosophy at durham university, and
have (only a couple of weeks ago), got my first guide dog, a black lab
retreaver cross called reever.

Re: [Audyssey] hello

2011-11-21 Thread shaun everiss

hi.
its good to get a newby on here.
I am known on the audiogames forum as crashmaster.
you should join the forum at forum.audiogames.net.

Bgt is the toolkit for games its an engine made by blastbay at www.blastbay.com
If all you want to do is make games then this should cover you.
It costs 35 or so to compile free games and a bit more to licence 1
or more games depending on what you want.

Running games from source is always free and a lot of us use that system.

Then there is autoit, you can't really make anything bar simple games
with that but its a basic scripting language.
Then you have python which is also good though I don't know much
about doing that.
Then there are things like c sharp and c++ visualbasic dotnet and
vb6 which is quite old.

If all you want to do is text based games maybe stories on
www.kaldobsky.com/audiogames there is dark grew which I have not
bothered with fully yet but still it exists.

Thats most of the main ones.
There is the quenton c playroom but I forget the url for that.
Now www.kitchensinc.net has a load of games like monopoly football and others.

Allinplay.com and www.blindadrenaline.com have some stuff to.

http://www.audiogames.net and www.pcsgames.net have game lists.
I think thats about everything.

all of you.

1, I'm interested in learning the computer language necessary to write
a game. I study French and Russian, so learning codes and such is not
hard for me. Would anybody be willing to kind of menter me and help me
sort of learn how to get started? I'm not even sure which programs I
can use that are compatible with my JAWS screen reader.

2, My favorite game in the world is Monopoly. I have the RS Games
version of this. If any of y'all know where I can get other versions
of this, please let me know! I also play cyber nations, which is a
text based internet browser game. www.cybernations.net. My favorite
games are like monopoly, risk, any kind of battle/war game, and I love
text based games too. Especially like nation building games and empire
games. What are some of the games, free or paid, that you all would
recommend?

I also love sports, but I've never found an accessible sports game
like football, so if y'all know of any, let me know!!

If you would be willing maybe to menter me and teach me some about
computer language and game writing, please email me privately.
Thanks all! Have a great day!

Re: [Audyssey] hello

2011-11-21 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Laurel,

Well, as far as Monopoly and sports games I'd highly recommend
checking out Jim Kitchens website. If you go to
http://www.kitchensinc.net
you'll find a large variety of board games like Life, Monopoly, Yatzi,
etc. He also has a Baseball game and a Football game. So you can
pretty much find a lot of what you want all at one place.

As for strategy/empire building games there is Castaways by Jeremy
Kaldobski found at
http://www.kaldobski.com/audiogames/
and there is a game called SoundRTS which I forget the website address
off hand. If you want something comercial, but is extremely good,
there is a game called Time of Conflict from
http://www.gmagames.com
which is probably the best empire building/strategy game out there right now.

P.S.

In the future could you please use a better subject than "Hello." Its
considered good list practice to give messages a subject that gives
the reader a indication of what the topic is about.

Cheers!

Hi Spensor.

If you go to http://audyssey.org/ you can logue into your account with your
E-mail address, and set a lot of list options, including whether or not you
recieve mail. This is better than unsubscribing sinse you don't have to
resubscribe when you get back, just go to the site, logue in and change the
option back to recieving mail again, it's actually something I've used
in the past myself when I've been away from my computer.

Hello,
My name is Tristan Bussiere. Most of you if not all of you, have seen me
before on this mailing list. I would like to introduce you to a new MOO
(mud object oriented) that I and my devoted team of staff have been
working on for the passed few months.
It is called Cosmos. As you may have realised, it is space-related, and

Re: [Audyssey] Hello and some information.

2008-11-11 Thread Andy
I think its @reroll. If I'm wrong about that, then I am wrong, but I
believe it's @reroll.

If anyone has seen the Miriani ManualNavigation help file, compare it
to Cosmos's file and tell me what the difference is. Absolutely no
difference. Come on, try it. It's pathetic what Cosmos is. However,
keeping it up that long Tristan is definitely an achievement. I have
some suggestions:
1) Getting the system so people can actually log in fixed ASAP.
2) I was on once, and saw there was no ship repairing; if that was
added great, if not why not add it.
3) How about building in starships?
4) Fixing the manual navigation help file so it's your own :-p

That's all I've got to say. This was meant to be constructive, not a
flame; so don't take it in that direction.

Regards,

Andy

Re: [Audyssey] Hello and some information.

2008-11-10 Thread Michael Forzano
Hi,I Was only answering questions that players have asked. On the matter of
Cosmos, I have already said what I have to say. Since the game is made up of
copied/stolen code, I feel that the future players should know so they can
make aneducated decision about what muds to play.

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike,
Isn't this getting a bit off topic? It wasn't about humanity-moo, it was a
post meant for Cosmos, and referring to my return to the list.

2008-11-10 Thread Tristan B

Hi Mike,
Isn't this getting a bit off topic? It wasn't about humanity-moo, it was a
post meant for Cosmos, and referring to my return to the list.

Hi,
This game is a HumanityMOO/Miriani clone. Miriani in ideas/content and
HumanityMOO in code. For example, when you go there you get a receiver
only
communicator, just like Miriani. You also have a similar creation
system.

Just the areas are different, ship classes, and stargates instead of
jumpgates, but the only activities are salvaging and deliveries (both
copied
off HumanityMOO). I'd advise not going there. Miriani has much more
content
if you want a game like that.

Hi,
First off, I don't make accusations, etc, without at least some
probable cause. Here, we have hard evidence. I was a programmer on
your moo, enough to see that it's all stolen code. As far as Miriani,
I've never played it, so I wouldn't know. Let's not subject this list
to a, 'I didn't take code, 'Yes you did, we have evidence' argument,
or any argument at all for that matter.
Thank you.

No, it was coded by me. And I don't give you permission to run it, because

And, thanks Sean. To answer your questions I remember that you asked, when
you die your corpse ends up where you died, you'd have to find it. If you
jumped out of the copter, you'll land and see a place before you die.
However, the death system has been entirely rewritten since you last played.

well I wish there were more scifi moos around that one could play that did not
shut down for no reason what so ever.
I know this sounds like a grumble which it is but oh well.
Mike you should get a mail explaining why I can't play currently on your mud,
Its probably due to my msn times and yours not fitting as I don't go on much
unless I have something to do.
otherwise its a good mud, I actually will play seriously once I get my issues
sorted and not monky ie not jump out the copter, and not leap off the roof of
the cafe although it was a rather lol thing.

Hi,
I agree. Although Tristan refuses to admit it, Cosmos, is a code clone
of Humanity Moo. The coding is exactly the same, no coding style
difference what-so-ever, not even variables are different. There is a
difference between learning and downright stealing.
I don't want to start a flame, my intentions are not, and I don't see
how it would.
Even though he stole everything he could, I do give Tristan credit for
running a Moo, and keeping it up as long as he has. I know I couldn't
have done that.

2008-11-10 Thread Michael Forzano
Hi,
This game is a HumanityMOO/Miriani clone. Miriani in ideas/content and
HumanityMOO in code. For example, when you go there you get a receiver only
communicator, just like Miriani. You also have a similar creation system.
Just the areas are different, ship classes, and stargates instead of
jumpgates, but the only activities are salvaging and deliveries (both copied
off HumanityMOO). I'd advise not going there. Miriani has much more content
if you want a game like that.

Hi there:

Welcome to the list. I'm Jal and I am tucked in the Pacific Northwest.

My first mud was discworld and I frequent Miriani, but I have tried Legend
mud a few years ago. I found myself very impressed but rather confused on
starting out, but I enjoyed it. If I get some time between courses, I'll
have to stop by.

Welcome and I know what it's like to be totally entrenched in a mud.

2008-09-02 Thread Kirstan Mooney
Hello Mike and everyone who has welcomed me! I am a biig Legend mud
player and wrote a review 2 or 3 weeks ago, about it, on another list.
Perhaps, if people want to read it, I could send it here, or maybe I might
be able to put it in the Audessy magazine once I track down where they are
and how I get articles in there. But I am Legend through and through and
spend far too much of my time in there.
Thanks for asking.

What muds do you like the most? I am playing dark legacy and ancient anguish
and also a little miriani and something dreams. Dark Legacy is working on
making their mud more accessible for blind players. I worked with the
developer for 3 hours today trying to assist in that endeavor.

Welcome to the list.

2008-09-02 Thread mike maslo
Kirstan:

What muds do you like the most? I am playing dark legacy and ancient anguish
and also a little miriani and something dreams. Dark Legacy is working on
making their mud more accessible for blind players. I worked with the
developer for 3 hours today trying to assist in that endeavor.

Welcome to the list.

Hello everyone. My name is Kirstan Mooney and many, many moons ago, I was
on this list and involved a little bit, with the magazine that used to be
sent out. Luckily, I stumbled upon this address again, so here I am. I
doubt if any of you remember me, but I wanted to say hi anyhow. My very
main focus in games is Muds and I hope to be involved in any and all
discussion especially about them.
Okay well take care all for now and I can't wait to start getting posts and
into the discussion about everything.

Hi Kirstan,
Welcome back to the list. By the way the Audyssey Magazine is still
being published more or less on a quarterly basis. So if you have been
away I would suggest getting the passed few issues from some of the
other gamers and read up on the news, latest game releases, games being
developed, game reviews, etc to get back up to speed with the community
in general.
Cheers.

Re: [Audyssey] Hello Everyone Happy Thanksgiving

2007-11-22 Thread jason
As I said earlier I was able to log in into Soccer manager then comes up a
list of options for example, history, club, matches and players, etc.
However when you click on the match that's where it isn't accessible. For
some reason I don't here any sound and I guess with flash animation you have
to see what is going on. That's not good for me since I can't see what's
going on with the screen. JAWS doesn't speak when the match is going on
either. However I can read the match report, but the reason why I signed up
for it because I thought it was going to have comontating in the game and
give you play by play,I thought you can here sounds for example crowd,
kicking the ball, and may more, but I don't here those things so like I said
before if some one knows more then I do then tell us what to do with Soccer
Manager.

sincerely,

Hi Thomas,

Yeah, actually the real Browns have never been to the Super Bowl and the post
Art Model Browns have only been to the playoffs once. This year they did not
look good against the Steelers, but did beat the Ravens and the Bengals and
only a blocked field goal with 3 seconds left on the clock stopped them from
beating the Raiders. It is early, still 12 or more games to go.

Hi,
Oh, that bites. I've had games like that in the passed. I've had a
couple of games where every play seamed like a fumble, interception,
sack, or otherwise a screwing coming and going.
I haven't played for a while, but as it stands I am still 7 and 0. I'll
let you know how week 8 goes once I get back into the game.

Well I hadn't either until I was looking for startrek Tng info, - though
for some reason now I see links to it all over the place.

Sinse the articals are user created, what content you get can vary, but
these days I'll use Wikipedia as sort of a general reference guide of
everything, -- from the life of Henry morgan to the history of
computers.

as regards your games in particular Jim, I deffinately enjoyed the wikipedia
articals for Monopoly, the game of life, hang man and battleships, and
there's a fairly extensive artical on the history and ractice of golf as
well. As I said, I'm something of a wikipedia addict! They've even got an
artical about Audio games, - though it's not really as extensive as it
could be.

Re: [Audyssey] Hello

2007-06-03 Thread Dark
Hi Jim.

These days, my usual reaction to coming up against something I don't know
about is to go and look it up on Wikipedia.

While I've heard of Parcheesy in various books, films etc, I don't really
know about the game and certainly haven't played it, - another Us vs Uk
thing I think. So, here's the wikipedia artical, which did tell me a bit
about the rules and history of the game:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parcheesi

There also seem to be external links knocking around on the page as well, so
I might check those out.

as to looking around the board, if the squares were numbered 1-68, and each
players pieces were marked A to D, then the usual style short cut scanning
keys and a bit of logic might hopefully be enough.

Beware the Grue!

Hi Dark,

Yes, Clue would not work out unless it was like an over the Internet type game.
Much like many card games because you would not want all players hearing all
of the cards and information in the game of Clue.

Parcheesy might work, but would have to figure out a good way to look around at
the board so that you could plan your strategy for your move.

May I ask, what is the Wiki article?

Re: [Audyssey] Hello

2007-06-02 Thread Dark
Hmmm, Parcheesy certainly looks interesting given the Wiki artical, it
actually seems to require a fair amount of stratogy, unlike it's much
simpler English litle brother Ludo, (and that goes for Mr. bagman as well).

I'm not sure about Clue (cluedo as it's called here).

Looking at Wikipedia again (I should start a Wikipedia anonimous society),
it seems that a lot of the stratogy in Cluedo comes from deception, -
particularly when showing one player a right answer on his/her card
secretly. doing the game in audio though, it doesn't seem you could make
these things secret, thus all players would know which guess was right and
it would seem to me that the game would devolve into a glorified version of
mastermind, -- though considerably easier sinse there are only three
objects and fewer possible combinations.

I'm also not sure about how computer Ai would work in Cluedo either, -
though as everything I know about programming is theoretical this probably
isn't saying mucch.

Beware the clue!

Hey Jim,
I am a baseball nut, so I would like to play all of the 162 games, but I
