to the ATV will only restrict what remotes the ATV responds to. To turn it off
of your Mac, go into System Prefs, in the Security Privacy pane, unlock it,

No, iTunes doesn't need to be open to play content. There's a setting in the
remote app that lets you maintain a connection to which ever thing you're
connected to. Also, once you have the remote app connected to your apple tv,
there's a control tab, that will let you actually control the ATV
