Open your schematic document, highlight the compone
it, which is to delete the part, close Protel
to clear the cache, and then reopen and replace the component, but this is
a little long winded, and should I have to do a few in the future, it would
be nice to know a simpler method.

Has anybody see or heard of this before?

No, Protel 99SE does have layer specific keep out tracks. You can either
place a track on the keep out layer, in which case it will affect all
layers, or a keep out track on a specific layer, in which case it will only
affect copper on that layer.

If you use a keep out track perimetering the area you want clear, you will
get the same effect, providing there are no points the polygon can net onto
within that area.

Thanks to all who replied.
Though I never really found the problem, I have managed to cure it.
I reduced the hardware acceleration on the graphics card by a couple of
notches. It effectively disables all advanced features.
Not really ideal, but it has not had any detrimental affects.
Thanks,

Has anybody seen this problem before, or have any ideas how to stop it?
It ran fine on my old 95 machine, and runs fine on my collegues 2k
machines.

There is a way around this bug.
Open the Client99SE.ini file with a text editor (windows or WINNT
directory), find the entry DisplaySplashScreen=True, and change it to
False.
Protel will not show the logo on startup, and the minimise bug will
disappear.
Mike.
Oddly enough, I found that the copy and paste from PrintPreview nearly
always caused problems with arcs becoming circles.
Thats why I resorted to the slightly lower quality way of using the screen
capture method.
Mike.
This is one thing that I have never found a good solution to.
The best I have been able to come up with is this:
Set the screen resolution to maximum.
Ensure the PCB is suitable for landscape printing, rotating if necessary.
Proceed to Print Preview and setup view as you wish it to look.

Hello all,
Does anybody know how I can do a global change to the part field titles of
all components in a library?
I don't fancy the alternative; do them all, one by one.
Thanks,
Mike.

Hello all,
One thing has been bugging me for a while. Is it possible to change the
PCB defaults?
Every time I start a new PCB, I have to go round setting rules and stuff.
Is there a way to get round this?
Thanks,
Mike.

Hello all,
Does anybody know how to change the output order for the BOM generation
from schematic?
Currently it outputs in component value order. Can I change this?
It would be beneficial if I could sort by component type for instance.
Thanks,
Mike.

librbary just put it on the layer listed, and upset the
design. It took ages to fix.
I haven't come across a problem like this since the days of AdvPCB 2.8,
when you could generate a library component on the wrong side.
Any ideas?

The startup window can be disabled by editing the client99se.ini file in
your Windows directory.
Find the entry - DisplaySplashScreen=true, and set it to false.
This will enable you to minimise Protel on startup.
Mike.
Dave, I have just tried creating a simple design using tracks in arc mode,
as a test.
Got to print preview OK, but as soon as I hit the print button, bye bye
Protel. Locked solid.
Most odd.
Mike.
There are two ways to generate a BOM. It can either be generated from the
schematic, or the PCB.
If you are using the CAM-Manager, it sounds as though you are generating
from the PCB.
If you have changed the schematic, without transfering the changes to the
PCB, you will get the old value.

All sorted. Admin priveliges were set.
It seems the designer in question turned on the autoplacer, and then didn't
realise it had to be turned off.
Once it was turned off, the components stopped wandering about.
As for the libraries that would not load, that was because the network
drive he

Hi Steve,
I have tried changing the default printer. It had no effect.
I have also noticed that Protel has slowed down considerably, especially
when opening documents.
Just in case it was of use, I noted the details of the illegal opeation.
There is a general protection fault with a driver c
program, but I cannot get it to work.

I had a similar problem recently when my company changed its name, and
therefore the email address.
I sorted it by emailing the List Manager (address in message footer), and
he removed my subscription, allowing me to re-subscribe under my new
address.
Hope this helps, and good luck.

Hello all,
A collegue of mine has come across an awkward bug that we would like to
find a way round if possible.
He has tried to produce a colour print out, using colours that would give a
real type view, eg. the tracks are light green, the multilayer is light
grey, and background fill is dark g
Thanks for that pointer.
It seems that when somebody opens a PCB file on any computer on the
network, and has a library file added that is in the library database, the
.ldb file appears showing admin access for that computer.
Under these circumstances, if I open, edit, and close the library da
Now that is bizarre! I opened the database this morning, closed it, and it
has now dropped in size from 25MB, to 7MB.
The compact on close facility was enabled the whole time. Eh?!
I get the feeling I will never know the answer the that little mystery.

Hmm Doesn't sound like thats it.
The recycle bin is empty, and the backups are not stored in the main

I don't know what else could have filled up that file.

Hello all,
Could somebody please shed some light on this matter for me.
I have a database which consists solely of libraries and templates.
On Friday the database size was approximately 10MB.
Today, I did a couple of additions to two of the libraries. This was minor
data compared to the datab
In my experience, I have found that Protel does not care what is in the
number field. I have used a1, b1, etc, before, and it works fine.
I have also used numbers like can1, can2, etc, for tuners.
As long as your schematic footprint pin numbers match your PCB footprint
pad numbers, Protel is
