Question about transferring from wheelchair to a car without injury – 
chronically injured when transferring even by professional nurses because 
paralyzed limbs just flop around, and are impossible to control without being 
secured somehow.

I broke another toe yesterday and transferred from my wheelchair into the front 
seat of a car.

And I had a sprained ankle previously from the same maneuver.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make it easier for someone to lift 
me from the wheelchair into the front seat? The problem is my hands and feet 
just flop all over the place and get squished.

I'm looking on the Internet at mobile hoist cranes, but they are too large for 
convenience and mobility.

Please advise. I'm also thinking about a type of Velcro strapping to put around 
my wrists and ankles to try to stabilize the flopping appendages.

I am paralyzed from the neck down and bedridden because I am waiting to get a 
new power chair.

I figure that will be 6 months or a year before it gets made.

Anyway, I need something desperately to hold my knees together in bed or even 
in a wheelchair. I cannot lay flat on my back with my knees up in the air 
because I have already had a stage IV bedsore and cannot ever lay on my coccyx 
again.

Please tell me if you have any ideas. I

Vocational rehabilitation is going to buy me another PerMobile power chair, and 
in order for me to do my work, they are going to get me any tablet my little 
heart desires… But the rub is, I have to tell them what to order.

I have spent 2 days trying to educate myself about tablets because I have never 
owned one before and only use laptops, but I don't think a laptop would be very 
practical to be carrying around on a power wheelchair all the time.


Below is a 2 minute video showing Stephen Hawking's PerMobile, so you can see 
what I am aiming for.

I do not even know what the arms that attach to the wheelchair to hold the 
tablet are called.it is hard to search things without knowing the proper 
vocabulary.

If anyone can give me advice and tell me all the peripherals and goodies I 
should order, it would be so greatly appreciated. Because this will be my 
one-time opportunity, probably for a decade or 2, to acquire what I need to be 
able to get out of bed where I am currently stuck 24 7.

I am paralyzed from the neck down from multiple sclerosis, so I have to use 
Dragon NaturallySpeaking for absolutely everything; and I need to make certain 
the tablet I order can accommodate the Dragon software, because it needs at a 
minimum, 28 megs of RAM.

I am a bit fearful because from what I have read and can understand and I could 
be way off base, a tablet is nothing but an overgrown smart phone… That is 
worrying me if it is true..

Below is the message I am sending out my 9 children helping someone will be my 
companion for 4 days on a trip.I am sharing this with you because I am trying 
to figure out if $1000 is fair or if I should offer more money for 96 hours of 
having someone with me as a companion.that would equal about $10 an hour… Your 
opinion would be greatly appreciated.



I will be paying for airfare and the hotel room and I am trying to beg, borrow 
or bribe one of my children to go with me.Adrianna was scheduled to be my 
companion, but the little booger bear went and got a job.

I will pay anyone $1000 to go with me please; this will be the first vacation I 
have had an over 15 years and by dammit, if it kills me, I will get there one 
way or the other.

I will be in a room by myself, so I need to take someone with me to push my 
knees over once every 2 hours during the night.

My girlfriends going with me, need to have an uninterrupted sleep to be able to 
look after being in the daytime.

I use a regular old style wheelchair with each foot having an individual plate 
underneath the foot.

I have broken toes and injuries from banging into everything with my feet 
hanging off out in front.

Dragon NaturallySpeaking the box with CTRL pops up when I am trying to write an 
email, and it covers what I am trying to write. No matter what I do I cannot 
get rid of it or move up and down to read what is directly underneath it. I 
have right and left clicked on it trying to get rid of it to no avail. Please

[QUAD-L] Motorized wheelchair question

I am in a nursing home and need a motorized wheelchair to be able to not be 
stuck in bed 24 seven because I am paralyzed from the neck down.

The administrator says this facility is not equipped to have a motorized 
wheelchair.

Because I never leave my room in this place, I have no idea what goes on 
outside my room but I just assumed they would have residents tooling around in 
their motorized wheelchairs. Apparently no one here has one. At the two other 
facilities I was in, people had them.

I think everyone else here is completely demented because I am the only one 
here that uses a computer.

Anyway I'm seeking information about how they can legally keep me separated 
from the medical equipment I need.

Also on this computer I have to use the dictation box to be able to insert text 
anywhere. As was always the case, I would like to know how to stop it and if

whenever I return from someplace when I leave this facility using the 
wheelchair provided for me, I come back with bruised toes.


I need a   toe protector on the footplate, and also I have been injured when my 
elbow slipped out of the side of the wheelchair and got caught in the spokes 
and on July 4 I had a pillow there to hold my arm stand and the pillow slips 
out and the mud on the wheels rubbed all over the pillow. The bottom line is 
this wheelchair is a bit dangerous. It should have sides on it so no  body 
parts can get mangled  within the spokes and toe


please tell me if Medicare or Medicaid Will furnish me with a wheelchair or 
even a power chair for independence

who are you going to call Ghostbusters…… Who am I going to call for 
information? Or what should I search for on Google to arrange for 
transportation… I have Medicaid and Medicare coverage.


I desperately need to get to one appointment with vocational rehabilitation, 
because they will purchase the $40,000 Permobil power chair with a Puff and sip 
navigation system so I would not have to be in the bed 24 seven as I currently 
have been for years.


They have a rule that without any exceptions, a potential client must show up 
at their office for one initial appointment.


I have begged for someone from my family to provide transportation for me to 
one appointment for quite a while now, and it is become painfully obvious no 
one is going to step up to the plate and assist me in this endeavor, so I'm 
asking you guys what can I do to hire somebody like a taxi for wheelchair 
people and an attendant, because I'm paralyzed from the neck down so I cannot 
possibly use my arms to wheel myself around to even get into the building.


I don't even know what to search for to find out how to do this so please 
explain it to me as if I knew nothing, because I truly don't know anything 
about this. Since my arms became paralyzed, I've only been out of my room at 
the nursing home on Thanksgiving and Christmas when one of my children would 
come take me home each year.


And to sit in the horrible wheelchair they provide for me at the nursing home, 
is so uncomfortable I cry even though they line it with bed pillows underneath 
my bottom and back and feet. And when I had my power chair, the chair was fully 
articulating and was much more comfortable than being in bed. Whenever I needed 
to I could reposition myself in the chair without having to wait for somebody 
to come assist me, which is a constant dilemma in an understaffed nursing home.


As an aside, I need someone to come stretch my legs and arms every day to move 
them because I get unbearable cramps which I did not get when I had a volunteer 
coming to stretch me every day, but she had to go back north. Please advise me 
as to how I could hire someone to do this or get someone from Medicaid to 
provide this service for me.

The microphone icon  turns to red completely off. I had someone come in and 
click on it, and it went green thought I was okay and let them leave thinking 
everything was copacetic, and the damnable thing turned itself  red again the 
minute they walked out.


I searched Google and the only thing I could find info about it On Was 
Knowbrainer. And the guy had to eventually completely wipe out the hard drive 
and reinstall Windows and everything to stop it. Obviously not an option for me 
with no hands to use.


Please please assist if you know what's going on. Is happening on my slave 
laptop and not my master blessedly.

My smart TV is changing channels by itself now. I suspect this all started when 
I had someone pushing all the buttons trying to get the remote to work properly 
a few days ago. Perhaps a timer was set somehow?


Anyway please tell me what to do to stop this since I cannot change the channel 
back to where it is supposed to be.

channel to 139 at 4 AM and 106 at 9 AM every day?

Over bed table question

As an aside, this item would be great for anyone who likes to eat or work in 
their bed; Telephone, laptops & office supplies and a lamp all right in front 
of you.

I am planning on ordering this, but my only concern is will I have room to put 
my two laptops on top of it side-by-side. They are both Dell products not two 
years old.



I need the little drawers, because I have a roommate that is demented and she 
just loves to peruse my belongings, which is no problem except she has the mind 
of about a three-year-old, and will sometimes remove items and of course never 
remember where she took them to and left them.

The table has drawers on it, and she cannot figure out how to open them. One of 
my daughters put a little childproof plastic thing on my closet door which 
requires squeezing to open, because she was always into my things.

I am incarcerated in a nursing home, and I am the only person in the building 
as a resident that has the mentality to be able to use a computer. Apparently 
dementia is at epidemic levels these days. I have read articles that claimed 
the dementia problem is so pervasive because of vaccinations. I tend to believe 
that , since that is what caused my brain disease, injecting viruses and 
bacteria directly into the body are the only things that will cross the blood 
brain barrier.

[QUAD-L] FROM 5 AM UNTIL 9:30 AM, BOTH MICROPHONES WERE TURNED OFF ACCIDENTALLY… Confirmation option needed to turn off the microphone

from 5 AM until 9:30 AM, both of my microphones to my master and slave laptops, 
were inadvertently turned off. The slave got turned off, when I was trying to 
say "microphone on" to turn it back on on the master, and somehow it  caused 
the slave to turn off also. I have the speech start program installed, but 
somehow it got corrupted and no longer works on either of my laptops 
unfortunately for me, because it is a lifesaver if you're arms are paralyzed.


I didn't realize the mouse pointer was on  the microphone icon, and told it to 
click. I thought it was someplace else, and inadvertently shut down the whole 
voice control system.


does Dragon NaturallySpeaking offer a delete confirmation box option, to avoid 
accidentally turning off  my microphone  by voice???


My Facebook friend Laurie called the medication nurse and had her bring me 
ibuprofen at 5 AM, and she refused to click on the icon for me and my CNA would 
not do it either, to turn it back on, which would've taken at least 20 seconds. 
So I had to wait four and a half hours,as I was stewing in my own juices;

when Marie arrived with my breakfast,  my stomach was in a knot preventing me 
from being able to eat much.

I had my call light on at 7 AM, but Marie had 11 people to wake up, get dressed 
and get them to the dining room so I did not see her and tell 9:30 AM.

No one is ever available between 7 AM and 9 AM, because they are all occupied 
already. And if those people are not dressed and ready to go, they will miss 
breakfast and go hungry.  I call those hours the dead zone. Going into cardiac 
arrest   Or choking to death during the dead zone is not recommended.

[QUAD-L] voice-activated remote control for a smart TV needed, or a way to control the TV through the Nexus cell phone?

My smart TV is on dish network, and it resets itself about once every day. No 
problem, except after the reset it tells me to push any button to watch TV. 
Obviously I have no way of doing that so I wait a couple hours until someone 
shows up in my room and miss the show I was watching.


GRRR…


Is there a way I can control the television by voice? It would be wonderful to 
be able to change the channels or turn the volume up and down myself also.

I only change the channel twice a day, and four in the morning and nine in the 
morning at breakfast, so as not to drive the nurses crazy, Or to alienate them 
where they would not change the channel for me at all. It would be great to be 
able to watch something else besides TV land and TBS.

I have searched the Internet and am unable to find an article specifically 
pertaining to this problem;

there are lots of articles out there about how to cope with anxiety and stress, 
such as exercising and moving away from  whomever is causing the anxiety, 
things to do, which a paralyzed person stuck in an institution does not have 
the option to do.the bottom line is having to be dependent upon the mercy of 
strangers with chronic lack of natural affection as the norm in the world today.

My biggest fear daily is that a nurse will not come when I need care for hours 
which inevitably leaves me in extreme pain just from needing to be repositioned 
once every two hours; babies are so fortunate they are not aware of what would 
happen to them without their caregivers. Makes you wonder why doctors are 
prescribing antidepressants for  toddlers and babies these days, no we know 
why… The profit margin. Always follow the money.

how would I do it and what would it cost me to have some kind of taxi service 
pick me up in my wheelchair and take me about 30 miles to a meeting with 
vocational rehabilitation plus I would have to arrange and pay for a companion 
to attend to me while I was at the meeting. IF I COULD JUST GET TO ONE MEETING, 
they would purchase the Permobile power chair I need to be able to not be 
bedridden 24 seven.

An inquiry about using multiple microphones with Dragon naturally speaking.



I have two laptops in front of me and I figured out how to put one microphone 
to sleep and turn the other one on, by keeping one headset on my head and one 
lying on my chest in front of me with the microphone positioned on top of my 
left arm. If I turn my head away from the microphone and whisper very softly 
into the one on my head, I am able to leave one microphone on while the other 
one is off. I just taught myself had to do this a few days ago out of 
necessity, because I'm not able at times to even get a nurse here to take my 
headset off my head and put the other one on my head. Sometimes I have to wait 
many hours before I see a nurse.


What I am inquiring of you is if you know of any way I could control the 
microphones on three different laptops consecutively. I have a new laptop but 
it is not installed with Dragon yet, but when it is I would like to have all 
three of them in front of me. For years I have asked people if there would be a 
way to turn one Mike off and the other on and I've always been told I would 
have to physically be able to toggle a switch.


I'm certain I am not the only paralyzed person in the world that is using more 
than one laptop at a time, especially if someone is writing and having to do 
research on one and transpose the information to the other while they are 
reading it, which is what I am doing because I am writing a book using the 
Bible as reference & it requires reference and research constantly between one 
source or the other.. Thank goodness for computers or I would have to have 10 
or more volumes of materials open in front of me on the table constantly 
looking from one to the other.

It is Christmas, well technically Christmas Eve, and if you are offended at 
what I say, perhaps you will read my whole post and know my story a little

Okay, I’m one of those that believe that Donald Trump is doing a fantastic job

 Now, I’m going to say what I intend. I'm free, live in the United States of 
America, the greatest nation on earth and at the moment have free speech. I 
have been on the quad site most of 12 to 14 years, if not more and enjoyed the 
posts that came across, found many helpful and I was able to help other people 
that posted. I’m proud of who I am, what I’ve accomplished in my life and 
scared of the road that I need to travel. I have this road close to my house 
that I call my Prayer Road. When I have an issue I will travel this road to 
think and pray. I was traveling that road in 1996 praying for an answer to 
prayer because of a decision I needed to make. My mother was put on a 
ventilator and a decision needed to be made to continue. Being the only 
surviving child the weight fell on my shoulders and that was the issue I was 
praying about. I know the spot that an audible voice told me “don’t worry she 
is already with me.” That is something I will never forget.

 I still travel that road when I have an issue to think or pray about, but I 
look at the road a little different. About two thirds of the way on this road, 
I look back. What I see is a stone road that I traveled many times. This road 
is now paved, but in my mind I can still see a stone road and small concrete 
bridge. This road I traveled hundreds of times on the way to “the old swimming 
hole”. Oh yes, the old swimming hole, many of us have areas like this, many of 
the kids that swam there also tried their first cigarette or other first. Mine 
was a small corncob pipe, tobacco was cherry blend half-and-half. As I look 
back the road I treasure the memories of the swimming hole and probably the 
best hunting for small game in the area. I took many a rabbit and squirrel from 
that road. Gone is the stone road, much of the trees and brush, remaining sweet 
memories.

 Today on that same road after I have looked back, I look forward. The road 
goes up a small hill and bears to the left. If you are new to that road wonder, 
what is ahead, what will I need to go through.

 I know what I find for I elected to follow that road many years ago. However, 
the thought of what is ahead and how will I handle it is the million-dollar 
question.

 A few months ago someone made the comment about ending their life, but stated 
that they probably would not have the strength to go through that. It is not 
srength to end your life, I know that all too well. Yes, it is going to end 
your suffering and Lord knows I’ve suffered too. I’ve also gone through pain 
when a brother committed suicide and I know firsthand what it does to those 
around you. My nephew to this day has to be on medication for depression. If he 
does not take his medicine they may find him laying on

is I certainly need to correct it quickly, because it can take an hour or two 
or more for me to have a nurse come check on me and give me assistance.

since I am in a nursing home, when this happens it is a disaster for me because 
I have to wait hours sometimes before someone will show up in my room to reload 
Dragon for me. And half the people here will not touch my computer.


A few times a month, I will say something and Dragon will unload. When I check 
the history recognition, it is always an utterance, so I have no idea what I am 
saying that is unloading the program. Needless to say, I am dead in the water 
with it turned off.


Do you have any idea what words I could be saying? I want to make sure I'd 
never say those words. I trained myself never to say microphone off already.

I have a master laptop and a slave for backup which I am dependent upon for all 
my communication needs.


The headset I am not using is hung on the top of the screen of the back up 
laptop, but the microphone still hears my voice even though it is about 18 
inches away and behind the screen.


Is there any way I could turn off one headset and turn on the other using my 
voice only? I have made this inquiry before and been told I would have to be 
able to touch a toggle switch, which would be impossible for me.

I was using Dragon 13, and I had to purchase again Dragon 12 because 13 kept 
crashing my computer about once a week for 6 months, and I'm in a nursing I was 
so I had sometimes to wait 8 hours to find someone willing to restart me, 
because I had to use their hands.


Now I would like to upgrade to Dragon 15, but I'm having a heckuva time trying 
to figure out how to actually do it.  A couple hundred dollars does seem a lot

[QUAD-L] Question about Facebook that I cannot figure out using Google

It seems my Facebook account is corrupted on my old laptop but it works alright 
on my new one. I'm using my old laptop now and I need to do something to fix 
this problem. I am unable to use my new computer any longer because it crashes 
about once a month and without hands I am unable to get it working again 
without waiting sometimes for half a day for someone to show up  that is 
willing to assist me. Am not in a position to be relying on an unreliable 
laptop. If I had hands it would not be an insurmountable issue.


I'm thinking maybe I need to remove Facebook from this computer and reinstall 
it, but I don't know if I would lose my information if I do that. Facebook is 
important to me, because it is how I keep track of my groups and my children.


I'm hesitant to do anything without researching  the procedure and consequences 
first because I don't want to lose my information I have stored on Facebook and 
especially being connected to my friends.

I tend to jump from the frying pan right into the burning fire when I attempt 
to delete and reinstall things on computers.


Please advise if you know what to do.

I purchased the most powerful Dell laptop eight months ago in order to run 
Dragon 13. A couple of weeks ago I had to reinstall Dragon 12 on both my 
laptops, because the program was corrupted irreparably.


My difficulty is now with both versions, I have had to create a new profile 
nine times in eight months, on both my laptops.

Please tell me if you have any idea why this is happening and how to circumvent 
it in the future, because being paralyzed  From the neck down, when the 
computer crashes I can wait half the day to find someone available to reset me 
at times. And being immobilized as I am, the computer is my whole life and I go 
crazy without it from boredom.

Dragon has unloaded itself twice in the last two hours without me telling it to 
unload.


In 20 years I never had this happen before and I looked on Google and cannot 
find anything about it. It causes me big problems because I am a tetraplegic, 
living in a nursing home and I wait about an hour to get someone to come reload 
the program. And because I have no telephone, it cuts me off completely and no 
communication to the outside world which terrifies me.


Both times I checked show history recognition, and it gave no indication as to 
why it would unload.


Please tell me if you know anything about this occurring.and is there any way I 
could get it to gave me a warning first, as it does when I try to close Windows.

[QUAD-L] I had to unload Dragon 13 and go back to 12.5, and now text-to-speech will not unload

In 20 years this is the first time I've had this happen to me using Dragon.  
And it is only happening on one laptop and not the other backup one.


Everything I try to do the text-to-speech program is reading it back to me and 
it's driving me nuts!  The only way I found get rid of it is to turn the volume 
down to zero, which is a problem when I am using YouTube or Skype.


I tried to unload text-to-speech five times and it will not unload although I'm 
following the directions explicitly.


So now I'm calling in you guys for advice, you are the big guns!  If anyone 
window the answer to this, paralyzed people would.


Oh BTW, I had to delete Dragon 13 on my fancy new computer I bought just to be 
powerful enough to run it properly, and reload Dragon 12.5.  I had my new 
computer five months and at least once a month, Dragon would crash and could 
not be revived until I had my laptop taken to a computer shop, where they went 
take a week to fix it and it cost me a couple hundred dollars each time.


Finally I found other people on the Internet that were having the same problems 
with 13, and they all had to revert back to a previous program also.  They're 
all lamenting that Nuance was the only game on the block and had a monopoly, 
and how they would all like to get away from Dragon if there was only something 
else available.  Obviously Nuance did not put the effort forward to test the 
program thoroughly before releasing it, and they certainly are not going to 
admit to their negligence because it would cost them money to replace the 
programs.


It is so wonderful to have you guys to bounce things off of.  It is great not 
to be isolated without access to information from warm bodies.

I'm looking for advice about headset comfort.


I googled and searched this thoroughly and cannot find what I need,Earphone  
Sennheiser "PC 31-II" cushion.


I am paralyzed from the neck down and so I keep my headset on 24 seven and even 
though I bought the most recommended headset for comfort, it has made  a sore 
in my right ear that bleeds. Under no circumstances do I want to be without the 
headset because it is my only way to contact the outside world, and I am in a 
nursing home and with strangers, not family; to be helpless and not be with 
family but strangers is a very insecure way to be, if you are absolutely as 
helpless as a baby. Absolutely scary.

Bleeding is a small price to pay for security, and not to be fearful.


if anyone has a suggestion for a solution please tell me because I'm absolutely 
unable to figure out what to do myself aside from stick a piece of foam between 
the earphone and my ear and then I probably would not be able to hear. 
Currently I have them pushed forward in front of my ear, which is not ideal but 
it does keep the earphone off of the sore except that somehow it manages to 
wiggle back onto the sore spot every now and then. Very unpleasant. And being 
in a nursing facility, I could wait an hour or 2 for a nurse to come move it 
off the sore.

[QUAD-L] Problems with Dragon NaturallySpeaking 13… I just had to reinstall 12.5

I bought the fastest Dell computer I could about six months ago to be able to 
run Dragon naturally speaking 13 optimally, and at least once a month it was 
crashing so badly I had to have a computer guy come fix it will.  Aside from 
the fact that I could've bought another computer for the money I spent on 
repairs, I finally got the brilliant idea after reinstalling Windows and 
everything else repeatedly that that was not the problem and I suspected 
something was wrong with the Dragon 13 program.  So although they had my 
computer for over a week, I finally got it back last week with 12.5 reinstalled 
and so far no crashes.  The only difference I can tell in the two programs is 
that with Dragon 13 trading the profile was not required, but that only took me 
a few minutes anyway so that's really not an issue to me.  I never had 
recognition issues with either program unless the profile was becoming 
corrupted and then all I did was make a new profile.  Not a big deal.


I just wanted to share this with you guys in case you were not aware of it.  
Obviously Dragon has a monopoly and they do not care about their customers 
satisfaction any longer.  It would've been very graciously polite they would 
share the news about their newest release not being so hot, and saved us a lot 
of difficulties figuring out what was going on.

[QUAD-L] Taxicabs for wheelchair users??? With an attendant? Info needed please

I desperately need to get to one appointment with vocational rehabilitation, 
because they will purchase the $40,000 Permobil power chair with a Puff and sip 
navigation system so I would not have to be in the bed 24 seven as I currently 
have been for years.


They have a rule that without any exceptions, a potential client must show up 
at their office for one initial appointment.


I have begged for someone from my family to provide transportation for me to 
one appointment for quite a while now, and it is become painfully obvious no 
one is going to step up to the plate and assist me in this endeavor, so I'm 
asking you guys what can I do to hire somebody like a taxi for wheelchair 
people and an attendant, because I'm paralyzed from the neck down so I cannot 
possibly use my arms to wheel myself around to even get into the building.


I don't even know what to search for to find out how to do this so please 
explain it to me as if I knew nothing, because I truly don't know anything 
about this. Since my arms became paralyzed, I've only been out of my room at 
the nursing home on Thanksgiving and Christmas when one of my children would 
come take me home each year.


And to sit in the horrible wheelchair they provide for me at the nursing home, 
is so uncomfortable I cry even though they line it with bed pillows underneath 
my bottom and back and feet. And when I had my power chair, the chair was fully 
articulating and was much more comfortable than being in bed. Whenever I needed 
to I could reposition myself in the chair without having to wait for somebody 
to come assist me, which is a constant dilemma in an understaffed nursing home.


As an aside, I need someone to come stretch my legs and arms every day to move 
them because I get unbearable cramps which I did not get when I had a volunteer 
coming to stretch me every day, but she had to go back north. Please advise me 
as to how I could hire someone to do this or get someone from Medicaid to 
provide this service for me.

I think I ordered the wrong one, because I've had it on my bed for 48 hours now 
and cannot get it to be comfortable.. I keep having to  put a bed pillow 
underneath my derrière..



It doesn't have an adjustment asking for the patient's weight, only a  way to 
adjust the pressure up and down. And I would like it to rotate me slightly as 
often as possible  to relieve the pressure points, and I felt absolutely no 
movement at all  and there is no way to tell it  the time intervals between the 
movement,, such as every 20 minutes, etc.

[QUAD-L] Msearching for bug solutions…margaux, please talk to Patty about the bugs in my room in needing traps for them… They sprayed for ants already and it sseems to have only increased their popula

Margaux, please talk to Patty and ask her to put traps for roaches and ants in 
my room ASAP because I have ants crawling on me again , every day, and a 
gigantic 2 inch roach was crawling around my walls and by the time I got 
someone in here to help me they could not find it. The little anole lizards 
crawling around the walls about once a week are totally harmless, so I don't 
want to hurt them and hopefully they are going to eat some of the ants which is 
what I'm sure they are in here looking for. I never see one larger than 2 
inches, though,, and I wonder why I only see babies in my room.


I told the nurses that if the roach had started flying, I was going to start 
yelling hysterically. I have never touched a roach before, and the idea of one 
landing on me and crawling around my body is quite unpleasant. I wish I could 
just scratch an itch or brush away an insect.


Oh I forgot, I hadd a visitor and she picked a spider up off my covers above my 
knee. Ignorance is bliss, and I wasn't even aware a spider was crawling on me. 
I'm terrified of brown recluse spiders.

aa friend of mine on Facebook  told me her father's trailer burned down  
yesterday  and his girlfriend had multiple sclerosis  that he has lived with  
for many years and ttaken  care of her.  They live in Washingtonsstate out in 
the country. The father escaped unharmed  but his girlfriend was killed.  This 
is the reply I sent back to her…

tetraplegia victim from multiple sclerosis as I am? A few years ago a power 
strip on the ffloor next to my bed caught fire and would've burned me up in my 
bed except that mmiraculously a nurse walked in and saw about a 1 inch flame 
coming out of the power strip and disconnected it from the wall socket..if the 
bed and caught fire,, I would not have been able to do anything to get away 
from it. Rather unpleasant thought.it must be horrible for your father and I 
know lots of people will be praying for him..by the way,  the power strip  
under my bed was  a very expensive good one  but the nurses were stepping on it 
with their toes when they would be next to my bed and I wasn't aware of it  and 
of course  eventually shorted out as any electrical appliance would do that was 
abused.  I still haven't figured out  how to get the power strip off of the 
floor.

I Timothy 4:2 "Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with 
a hot iron;"

"Hypocrisy" is the claiming something to be very religious and of God, when in 
fact it goes completely against God's Word. The one that holds that "hot iron" 
is Satan, and he though his seducing spirits and doctrines of devils will catch 
the unsuspecting minds of God's people, and sear the conscience of their minds 
to where they can't tell the difference between what is from God, and what is 
of the devil Satan.

When someone was wounded, you sear their wound over with a hot iron, and it 
sterilizes and prevent impurities from entering the wound. When Satan seared 
with his hot iron, just the opposite happens; it seals the wound of their mind, 
and prevents the truth with understanding from entering into their conscience 
mind. It causes the Christian that has been seared from understanding the 
truth, and they accept the lies of Satan's seducing spirits, and those 
doctrines of devils and think that it is truth. The searing over by the hot 
iron leaves a scar to where the wound is not as sensitive. When that hot iron 
hits your conscience mind, then your mind is not as sensitive to leading of the 
Holy Spirit of God as well.

Each time you feed your children with the trash from television, it causes 
their minds to be less sensitive to the point that many times they have trouble 
separating what is right from wrong, what is truth from what is a lie, and 
reality from fiction. What happens to your children and yourself when you allow 
this to happen, is that they become branded in their minds, they take on a 
brand or seal, which is also a mark in their minds of Satan who controls the 
beast of these latter days.

This is why we should train ourselves to hold a thought, watch a subject and 
object that is being taught in God's Word, whereby we can judge man's doing by 
it. Therefore we can know if we are getting involved with someone that has been 
listening to seducing spirits or not.

Amazon echo and smart phones…they are saying these devices will take away our 
liberty, and if you are a tetraplegia victim it gives you liberty because you 
have an option to protect yourself against abusers and molesters. Sadly I've 
had a few experiences in nursing homes

that I believe would have been prevented if I had some voice activated device 
calling the authorities for me and they could hear what was going on on my end 
of the line. Unless a perpetrator was a complete idiot,  when I said to call 
911 to the device I would hope that would scare them away, and get them off of 
me. I was yelling my head off  , but nursing homes are full of demented people 
who yell all the time so no one pays attention.

Nationwide, one-third of nursing home residents suffer serious, often 
permanent, injuries due to neglect, according to a federal inspector general 
report. It needs to get prayed about  please..the article says infection  is 
the deadliest problem,,  and the place I'm living in now is 80°  every day in 
the day time and 77° when the sun goes down..  The building is old and has no 
insulation or adequate  air-conditioning compressors obviously.. And no 
tthermostat in the room.. Such warm temperatures  encourage bacteria to grow  
and that is why  in hospitals they keep the temperature so cold..  In my case I 
have hheat pparalysis so it is extra miserable..the home I'm in has a  2.2 
rating,, and I'm trying to get relocated to a five-star  facility..and not all 
nursing home residents  are elderly,  I was in my forties when I was put in

the more you read into this article, the more horrific the deeds become. All 
the perverts always go to wherever they can find easy victims. The child 
molesters donate their services to Sunday schools and ddaycare centers for 
children. So of course the perverts would be attracted to nursing homes where 
they have access to lots of helpless people.and you know the majority of the 
patients who are abused never had the opportunity  to make a proper report, not 
only because of their mental and physical incapacities but also because the 
facilities want to cover everything up, so it doesn't  ruin their precious 
reputation. One thing I've learned after 17 years of being in a facility as 
their priority is always  "go in to cover your butt mode". Any reported 
incidents can only cause headaches for the facility.


I have still been unable to get my records from the Pavilion and that should be 
no difficulty because they were all computerized. Obviously they do not want me 
to have my records because of the oxycodone overdose incident..and I was never 
able to get my records from the neurologist office where I was injected with 
radioactive iodine when I was 3 days pregnant  either.  They told my attorney I 
had never been there. And they got by with it, even though I had an attorney 
requesting the records.

I have a good report about the new computer  since it's been back from a A+ 
computer repair shop; I haven't had to do one reset of the computer or of 
Dragon NaturallySpeaking since I received it, and I'm so grateful to my 
daughter Margaux for taking the bull by the horns  and sending a computer man 
to repair it. I'm almost afraid to say something because it seems too good to 
be true. this is the 2nd computer repair person to work on this computer, and 
I'm so grateful this time they seem to have solved the problem with whatever 
was corrupted.. Windows had to be reinstalled along with Dragon 
NaturallySpeaking and my other programs. I wish I'd had the knowledge to know 
just enough to realize the programs were corrupted somehow and needed to be 
reinstalled so I could have had the original computer repair guy to do that 
because tthis computer never worked properly from the get-go; we were whipping 
a dead horse . that is one thing I have to be grateful to Richie for, because 
he observed me struggling to use the programs, and diagnosed that everything 
needed to be reinstalled right away. And he's the only person that made that 
suggestion and of course I latched on to it because it was valuable information 
that I had never even considered; he is so knowledgeable because he owned a 
computer store and was repairing them since the 1st Apple Macintosh wwas 
produced. The man Ritchie is a patient  here , and he wanted $600 to do all the 
work and Margaux had a computer repair shop come pick it up and work on it,  
and the total was  $350. I'm so grateful for her looking out for me.. Being 
isolated here without a telephone  makes it very difficult to make certain 
decisions intelligently, and obviously Richie was just trying to take advantage 
of the situation because he thought my family is not around watching. It still 
amazes me that even being in my position, people still managed to  take 
advantage of me and not that rarely either.. I should not be surprised I 
suppose, because we know was the ruler of this world is ,, but a person without 
a seared conscience, I would have the oobviously incorrect and naïve 
expectation, they mmight have some hesitation about taking advantage of a 
helpless person but they just look at that as an invitation to do whatever  
nefarious things they can dream up in their morally corrupt intellect. Very 
disheartening, especially being without my family around physically for 
protection. they are like a hungry lion looking around for something to eat 
that is easy prey…

I Peter 5:8 "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a 
roaring lion, walketh about seeking whom he may devour:"

To "be sober" is to be sensible, and to be "vigilant" is to be aware and 
sincere in what you are doing. Be ready for those things that could come 
against you, and not stumbling around in a fog. It is to have that alarm set 
and ready to go off when the world would come against you. Remember that our 
adversary is Satan the devil, and his sole mission is to trip you up and accuse 
you before the throne of God. The "adversary " is one of the names of Satan, 
the devil. Job tells us that Satan is right there in heaven before the throne 
of God accusing us of the things that we do. However When you repent in Jesus 
name, you have the power over Satan and all his realm, so take that power and 
use it. He has to go when you tell him to go.


So many people today have an evil Satanic spirit that they succumb to whenever 
they think no one is looking to witness their evil deeds. And the ones that 
proclaim the loudest about how holy they are and how much they love the Lord, 
scare me the most because I found they are  just setting me up to be vulnerable 
to whatever it is they have on their mind. As Mahatma Gandhi said,  "I would be 
a Christian except that I know too many of them".

I just wanted to share something with you that I was reading about another 
quadriplegic named Mark Smith. He had a website called the wheelchair junkie 
and it was his advice that told me what was the Cadillac of power chairs in the 
nineteen nineties  so I would know  which one to buy. Mark would get 
demonstration models of each power chair and use them for a while to figure out 
which one was the best. I would never have known what to buy without his advice 
 and he was certainly right on. I just discovered he died at 40 years old from 
cerebral palsy. I just wanted to show you a line from the website that someone 
wrote… At the deceased’s request, no service will be held, as he “has a better 
place to be that day” – presuming that The Pearly Gates is wheelchair 
accessible, and Saint Peter lets him in.


How wonderful that he knew he had a better place to be that day..

replacement now is $40,000 and I'm trying to get another one. It was fully 
articulating so you can sleep at night in it if you're so desired. I was more 
comfortable in my chair then I was in my bed. I purchased it because Mark 
Smith, the wheelchair junkie, said it was the "Cadillac of power chairs" and 
that was in the nineteen

When you call Invacare Customer Service, be prepared to lay it on thick.  Let 
them know you love their chair and would not want to be stuck in another brand, 
 start crying if you must.  Let them know what the vendors are doing to

I have been injured almost 19 years (Thought it was 20 but I was wrong) and I 
am getting ready to get a new chair.

This will be my 3rd chair and and my 1st two were Invacare Action Arrow Storms. 
They are no longer making this chair :(

I hate change! I went to an evaluation appointment and was told the chair I 
want (Invacare Torque 3) is considered a Group 4 chair

And it would be difficult to get. They recommended a Permobil C350 or Quantum 
Rival.



They told me that an Invacare plant had been shut down by the FDA ( I think 
that’s right) and their concern is if I got the

Invacare they might quit making parts for it.



I feel they probably make more $$ off the other two chairs (I just really have 
trust issues with them)

. I have had incredible luck with my Invacare chairs, obviously since 2 have 
lasted 19 years.



What would you recommend?

I ordered a new headset to use with Dragon and it was delivered four days ago 
and I had to wait until today that have someone come visit me to plug it in and 
eexchange it for the one I currently use  on my hhead (good luck getting anyone 
who works  in a nursing home to take the time to help). .


We could not find any place to plug it into the computer because instead of an 
USB socket.. It has2 prongs.


after three hours of messing around the Internet, I finally figured out why 
this headset does not have a USB socket.I had to order an older model  (though 
I wasn't aware it was an older model)  in order to get one without an in-line  
volume control slider. The in-line slider was iinadvertently changing the 
volume  to mute  when the nurses would handle me sometimes, which would be seen 
as a  modernization and upgrade  to a person whose arms wwere working, but not 
serve to  a paralyzed person  dependent upon caregivers

[QUAD-L] question about contracting muscles atrophying, etc.

my arms and legs are contracted at about a   45° angle,, which makes sitting in 
a wheelchair rather awkward with my legs..



I've seen pictures of long-term paralysis patients, aand eventually their knees 
are touching their bottom and there hands are touching their chin. Looks very 
uncomfortable and like a pretzel. Years ago I inquired about what could be done 
 to stop the progression, and I was told they would have to put braces on me 
that are very bulky and uncomfortable, so I  decided not to do that. It's hard 
enough to maintain comfort now without that, on top of it.


My life expectancy is about another 20 years, and I really do wonder what's 
going to happen to my body with these contractions  of my muscles. Please share 
whatever knowledge you possess about this.  And I wonder if I had physical 
therapy, If it would have done anything  to make me more comfortable.  I have 
one CNA that moves my arms  ggently to open them  and it does feel good while 
she is doing it.  I had physical therapy for a few months, that my insurance 
stopped paying for it quite quickly  (Medicaid).. Is there any way to force 
Medicaid to provide for physical therapy?

unfortunately, as I was opening the message, I saw the subject and said move 
down nine and for some reason, Dragon misunderstood me and my email 
disappeared, and whenever this happens, it disappears forever because I've 
looked through all my folders  and it it does not move the mail into any 
folders. I do check recognition history whenever that happens, and it always 
has a bunch of question marks. My appologies

Glenn, which version do you have? I use Dragon 13 and 12.5, and so far I like 
12.5 better because 13 keeps crashing the computer. I have two laptops 
side-by-side on my over the bed table and when the new one with Dragon 13 
crashes, I just switch back to the old one with 12.5. I've had the new one 
about five months, and it completely crashes about once a month. Right now it 
is in the computer shop and they are reinstalling Windows and Dragon 13. At 
$150 an hour. Of course. C'est la vie.


Whenever my recognition gets real bad that I am so frustrated I must do 
something, I make another profile and make sure to delete all the profiles you 
made previously, or they will conflict with each other (LEARNED THAT THE VERY 
HARD way and another quad was kind enough to tell me what to do).

a quad name Lindsay in England wrote, and it is wonderful because it covers all 
the places Dragon forgot about that make it difficult for quadriplegics to use 
it independently, such as doing an independent restart when necessary and 
having it reload completely.

 Lindsay charges nothing for other handicapped people to utilize his program. 
It really is qquite amazing. Both of these programs you can use without cost.

 hello all,

I have seen many post concerning voice recognition software. I have been using 
it for quite a while and like it.

I do have one issue I would like to ask if anyone has been able to correct. 
When I dictate it will put the wrong word into a sentence, then I say a request 
to correct this word, the menu comes up with the suggestions. Let's say the 
third item is the correct entry that I want to make and I say "
"choose three" and instead of putting the correct word it will put the word 
choose three.

Anybody know how to correct this?

sometimes, the narrator comes on, and I have no idea why, but I cannot use my 
computer when it happens because it interferes with my  voice commands.

[QUAD-L] comparing Dragon NaturallySpeaking 12.5 to DNS 13

I bought a new fancy laptop with Dragon 13 on it about half a year ago and it 
has given me nothing but headaches. About once a month. the computer would 
completely crash, and that was a real problem for me because it could take me 
eight hours to get someone to come help me do a reset,  even though it took all 
of two minutes. and then I read in the directions that it was supposed to be 
restarted once a day, which is terribly impractical for me. I have to have 
someone reload the profile manually and sometimes I've had to wait eight hours 
to get someone to touch the screen one time to reload the profile for me.


It got so bad I had to switch back to my old laptop with Dragon 12.5. I'm so 
glad to be back with 12.5 because at least I know it's not going to stop on me. 
Dragon 13 always had me worried about when it was going to quit again.


Apparently I don't know the proper words to search for, because I cannot find 
any information about if other people have this difficulty with Google; so I 
figured I would see if any of you had any difficulties with Dragon 13. Please 
tell me your opinion of Dragon 13..


The took my new computer to a computer shop where they are going to reinstall 
completely Windows and Dragon NaturallySpeaking 13. They are charging me $150 
an hour to do that.

[QUAD-L] the case of the sliding pillow

I'm looking for a way to keep my neck pillow from moving out of position.



 I'm hoping one of you  will have a better suggestion,then I am capable of 
coming up with.


I use one of those U-shaped neck pillows behind my neck to hold my head up so I 
can see my computer screen and television.  Unfortunately, if I mmove my head 
from side to side,, even in the slightest amount,  the neck pillow moves 
backwards until little bit, but it is just enough to cause my head  to bend 
backwards uncomfortably.



I Already put a piece of the rubber sheeting that is used on trays in 
restaurants to keep the dishes from falling off underneath it to no avail.


Because I ccan not support my head, when it shifts backwards  Even the 
slightest amount ,,I am looking at the ceiling and cannot see my computer 
screen or TV or anything for that matter. And I am in a nursing home  and it 
could take hours for someone to bother to come help me;; And when the pillow 
moves backwards,  I am unable to reach my nurse call device, which requires me 
to touch it with my chin to turn it on. Another difficulty is whenever my head 
is bbent backwards,,It is very uncomfortable.


A regular bed pillow and pillowcases, is underneath  the rubber pad and neck 
pillow.


If any of you have a solution to this, I would certainly appreciate your advice.

I am requesting prayer or from my agnostic friends, good vibrations because one 
of my daughters yesterday picked up my papers from this nursing home and is 
taking them to another nursing home to attempt to get me in there. The place is 
called Morse life in West Palm Beach, Florida, and it has a five star rating, 
Whereas the place I am currently residing and has a 2.2 rating. It is also the 
only a few miles from her home and now I have about 40 miles away from my 
hometown of Jupiter, Florida.
