Anything else to try - is the db stored somewher odd on the WHS, can I

 Any help gratefully received.

Hi,

Always tricky diagnosing db problems.. But.. Some thoughts:
* after unbinding, make sure you've rebooted your server machine just
to make sure mysql's restarted
* make sure you've opened 9092 on the server pc, not the moose pc
* check the mysql port is 9092 - some nas boxes use the mysql default
of 3306, but WHS should be 9092
* try the 'guess database details'..
* try using root as the db usr
* make sure you're using a numeric IP address in the Server tab

Hope something there helps.. if you're still getting problems, send me
a moose-log (misc tab) of
hitting rescan in the options and i'll see if i can spot anything..

Oh, and how recent is your 7.5.1 ? Small chance they've tweaked the db
schema and it's causing
problems, although i usually get a deluge of emails when this happens,
and havent yet.. :-)

I currently run squeezeslave in the background using Moose to fire it
up.  Moose shows up in the system tray, but squeezeslave runs w/o any
console window.  I don't seem to have issues with squeezeslave crashing.
I do, however, find this combination sometimes causes my computer to
not want to shut down sometimes - select shutdown, and the system just
doesn't.  If I kill Moose and squeezeslave it will shutdown properly.
My normal shutdown process currently is to manually exit Moose, which
also closes squeezeslave, prior to excecuting shutdown.

Does Moose always prevent the shutdown, or is it just when its running
squeezeslave ? If the latter, does stopping squeezeslave in Moose still
cause moose to stop the shutdown ? I'll see if I can sort this..

Re: [slim] Album Art?

2007-06-12 Thread Dr Lovegrove
Yup, as dwilliams01 says, you have to do a total clear and rescan
for slimserver to pick up new coverart properly. A rescan on it's own
isnt enough. In fact, if you play a newly added album before it's been
through a clear and rescan, slimserver will pick up the coverart and
display it, but it wont associate it with the underlying album.

In Moose, if you use the mysql scanning option, it should pick up
whatever slimserver's picked up. If you folder-scan it's slightly
more limited, but should pick up cover.jpg. Having said that I've
not really tested this much as I use folder.jpg in my libraries
too..

The download would have to include the .net runtimes, so be quite chunky,

It would be nice to be able to include the database connector, but I'm not

I'd love to see an album art downloader integrated into slimserver, but

Might not be integrated in SS but definitely to Moose (.NET as well).

I wrote code to do this a while back, but never got round to hooking it in

)
AND ( ( lastPlayed IS NULL ) OR ( lastPlayed '1161171000' ) ) )
ORDER BY RAND() LIMIT 1

If I strip out all the columns and just get it to sort the tracks id's
like this:

SELECT me.id FROM tracks me
LEFT JOIN genre_track genreTracks ON ( genreTracks.track = me.id )
WHERE ( audio = '1' AND genreTracks.genre IN ( '21', '26', '17', '22',
'18', '30', '16', '23', '29', '25', '27', '28', '20', '24', '19', '31'
)
AND ( ( lastPlayed IS NULL ) OR ( lastPlayed '1161171000' ) ) )
ORDER BY RAND() LIMIT 1

It now takes under a second, and you're left with the random track ID, which
should be all it needs..

Yes, they work fine.

If you're on the same machine, you can login as slimserver (or root)
with no password. The default port's 9092 and the database is called
'slimserver'.

If you're on a remote machine, you need to remove the bind-address
from the my.tt file (server/MySQL folder) and restart mysqld..

Any bit of network gear on a network can potentially send/block random

It's probably also worth turning off all squeezeboxes except 1 wired one
and getting that working first. Make sure there aren't any conflicting IP
addresses on the network and you've only got 1 copy of slimserver running

Also, when turning stuff off, leave it turned off for a good 5 seconds

report that it is working quite well for the most part. What a
fantastic program! Anyone out there who is looking for a nice GUI
front-end to Slim Server should try this out!

Excellent, glad you like it.. :-)

I did have one problem -- I'm trying to scan the Slim Server library
from a *different* computer using the SQlite mode. Every time I do
this Moose crashes! I worked around this by doing the folder mode.

Ah, yes, sounds like the standard SQLite problem.. Trouble with SQLite
is that each database only reliably supports one application at a time.
When Slimserver is running, that's the application, so when Moose comes
along and jumps in, it's just luck whether something happens.

The way round this is either to stop slimserver whilst scanning, or to
make a copy of the db file, and point Moose at that copy. Neither are
ideal, but it's just the way SQLite is.

Other ways round are to change your server to use MySql or, as you've
found, the folder mode.

Other things that are non critical but would be nice would be to have
the option to be able to view all albums (currently you can only view
all artists and then by clicking on an artist you can see their
 albums).

If you type any character in the library filter control, then quickly
delete that
character so the control's empty, the album list will do a filter based on
nothing - the result is that it shows all the artists on the left and all the
albums on the right. I think this is the state it's in when you first open the
window.

It's not ideal though and Im hoping to add some more view modes shortly.

It would also be nice to be able to right-click on songs in
the library and choose Add/Insert/Play. Same goes for right-clicking
on an artist or an album... The current layout of the library makes it
very laborsome to click on a song way down at the bottom left of the
screen and then go way up to the top right to add it to the play list.
Minor things, but would be nice.

Indeed, it does need popup menus.. If you double-click items it plays
them without the need for clicking the buttons.. I think if you ctrl+click it
appends too - I've not got moose to hand though, so cant check that.

Hope that helps,

.NET 2.0 is a huge improvement. No impact on boot-up times and no

Yeah, I was quite suprised at the difference it seems to make.. The only
downside is Im going to need a faster machine to speed up MS's new
development environment.. Shiny but slow..

And Moose? Wow! What a cool app! Fast, efficient, clean, uncluttered
 UI, bug-free.

Cool, glad you like it.. Dont know about bug-free, but it's getting there.. :-)

I have a few minor niggles:

 1. Stop does not work. Pause does, but pressing the Stop button on
the bottom right has no effect.

Hmm, I'll check this out.. Those buttons just do the same as the ones
on the remote (in theory).. Things keep changing on the server, so maybe
something's broken..

 2. Changing players is not as intuitive or simple as other operations.
I guess this has to be done by the radio button in preferences?
Personally I'd prefer a simple button somewhere in the main UI.
Something that would call up a drop-down list.

Yes, currently it's a bit tucked away.. The original intention was to have
a Now Playing window for each unit.. Then you could drag/drop playlists
between them, etc.. I think a simple switcher - maybe just a submenu of
players - might be the simplest/quickest solution in the short-term..

Hmmm, testing could be a problem here.. If SD fancy donating a
few SB3's to the cause, dont be shy.. ;-)

 3. I couldn't get the external tagger to work (Mp3tag). It errored
out with a German dialog. I've seen this issue mentioned before, I
just have to look for the solution.

Ahh, just tried mp3tag.. Seems not to like spaces in its arguments..
Just fixed Moose to get round this, so should work in the next release..

 4. It waits a fairly long time for the server response when starting
up. 10-15 seconds. No big deal, but I thought there was a problem
 when I first started it.

10-15 seconds seems pretty slow.. Which server version are you
running ? With 6.5 nightlies and MySQL it takes roughly 2 seconds
for Moose to appear and show the playlist and album-art on my
machine here..

Yup.. BTW, if you're using SQLite, make sure you either stop slimserver
briefly, or point Moose at a copy of the db file - SQLite only likes 1 program
talking to it at a time.. If you dont, one in five times (ish) it seems to crash
the server or just not fully populate the library.. Not a problem with MySql
though..

About the only thing that's missing now is something with the
functionality of the SlimServer random mix plugin. I see where you can
add one random track at a time, but new tracks are not added
 automatically.

There's a bit on the website about assigning the blank 'popcorn' button to
launch random-mix.. Sadly random-mix and other plugins arent directly
accessible to the CLI, so control is a little limited.

* F5 refreshes playlist.

* Optimised redraw requests in Now Playing.

* Added 'Icon Pause' option in Tray menu to turn off the pause/play

* Tracknums now displayed on tooltips and in playlist window.

* Changes to some of the button text.

and the big new feature..

* Queued CLI requests - previously Moose tried to be nice to
Slimserver by sending out one CLI message at a time. Maintaining this
was becoming a bit of a nightmare and there were some instances,
particularly on startup, where often a couple would hit the server at
the same time. On a slow server machine this would sometimes take it
out. Not ideal. Enter the new Queued CLI Request feature which should
hopefully fix this. It also paves the way for multiple operations on
the playlist, adding album tracks in the correct order, and a whole
host of other features which need multiple CLI messages... Now, it's a
bit of a scary change, so I've added an option in the preferences

It's been a month, so quite a few tweaks and changes:

* Now supports MySQL databases. Works much better than the SQLite
support, but obviously you need to have MySQL'd your slimserver for it
to work (well worth it !)

* I've moved Moose from .Net 1.1 to .Net 2.0.. Feels much quicker and
internally things are a bit nicer too..

* Re-jigged the NowPlaying UI again - added a menubar, removed some
buttons, tidied up the remaining buttons, added bitmaps, etc.. Oh, and
cover-art now resizes as you resize the window.

* Added an Amazon lookup feature which attempts to find the currently
playing album. It's a bit work in progress, but seems to work quite
well.

* Added SoftSqueeze integration so you can fire up SoftSqueeze without
hunting about on the website.

* Fixed some directory scanning problems and a few other bits and pieces.

Enjoy,

to move to .net 2.0 at some point, which'll help things a bit..

One question - often when adding albums (but not always) the tracks all
get added, but in the wrong order - any idea why that could be??

Currently the way it adds an album is to add the album itself, rather
than the tracks (so it's really a server issue).. Plan is to add the tracks
one-by-one, which should sort this.. Trouble is if I fire a load of messages
at the server, it just falls over in a heap, so I need to queue them my end..

How does the Fishbone skin do it? When I add an album through there it
 is played in track order.

Im suspecting the problem's with adding the album's path, rather than
database ID (but can't repeat the problem myself)..

If you add the problem album via 'browse folders' and 'browse albums'
on the web ui, does it do different things in each case, or do they both
work ok ?

'fraid so.. Actually it wouldnt be too tricky to add to folder scan, but I was

Aye, if you can narrow it down it would be seriously handy..

From 0.22 to 0.23 I changed the redraw code quite a bit and it seemed to
sort the occasional flicker and speed problems I was having on one of my

it reduces the number of transparent brushes used in the now playing

Flickery Loop ? Not seen this for a while.. Is it related to long (50 item)
playlists ?

After a re-scan it seems to be in a state of getting ALL album art for
all files as no artist is selected, think this isn't a great idea.

Yes, when no artist is selected (or if you type something, then delete it
in the search edit-control) it'll display all albums in your
collection. It should
only be requesting the artwork for the currently displayed albums though,
so at most 15 or so albums. Also these first 15 are likely to have been
requested before, so should be cached in the thumbs folder.. Is this not
what you're seeing ? Could be a bug if not..

I am also getting regular 'db is locked' messages the first time I try
and scan, then it goes through fine. And I still get the odd
slimserver crash for inexplicable and not consistently repeatable
reasons when using moose (usually just after a re-scan).

Ah, these sound related to SQLite databases being single user only.
If you copy the db file to another file, then scan that file instead of the
live one, it should work fine. An alternative is to stop slimserver whilst
rescanning. This should all be sorted with MySQL..

But overall it is working very well - multi selection in the play list
window will be great, good luck with getting that going properly, I
remember well when I used to be a programmer that could be tricky.

Good, good.. Yeah, should be sorted soon..

Playlists can be loaded, saved, refreshed, cleared, and edited via the

Sadly the list is only built when doing a 'Rescan DB', so any newly saved

The thumbnail folder is specified in the Moose options window. It
defaults to 'thumbs', so there should be a 'thumbs' folder alongside
Moose.exe.

Moose uses this folder to cache resized versions of your SS artwork.
There's no indexing, so it's safe to delete individual files, or the
whole folder.

Yup, it's mainly a front-end for SS, so ideally SS needs to be
running.

However.. You can view the contents of your library and launch
external apps like winamp to play the files.. The now playing

The only think stopping me trying it out is .NET.
Last time I put it on my system I found it
pretty invasive - it added 15 seconds to my boot

 automatic login.

Indeed, Moose currently uses .NET 1.1, which is much more efficient
than the original 1.0.. I'm thinking of moving to .NET 2.0 at some point
which should help performance a bit more.. I've not noticed it slowing
windows startup down too much, but I tend not to shutdown that

Would be great to have one click access to a pause feature (while
minimised) as an option (for answering the phone!).

Good point, and I like the pause idea.. I was going to put basic controls on
a submenu of the tray menu too, and maybe an option to turn global media
player keystrokes on and off.. I'll see how it goes..

Now, about cover art - how does this actually work? I had it working
fine when I was scanning the files, but now I am scanning the db and it
has stopped working. I do not have slimserver scan for artwork as I'm
running it on a NAS, but I can change that if necessary, however I
didn't think Moose needed that? I presumed it went and got the
 thumbnails directly.

Album art.. I presume you mean for the library rather than the now playing
cover, which just (as previously) grabs the image from the url:
http://servermusic/current/thumb.jpg?player id

So the library album art...

Firstly it looks at the 'thumbnails' setting in the options dialog.
If this is set to an empty string, it doesnt display thumbnails in the
library window.
If this is set to a valid folder, it looks in the folder for a file named:
thumbnails folder\artist - album - 100.jpg,
thumbnails folder\artist - album,
thumbnails folder\artist - album.jpg,
thumbnails folder\artist\album\folder.jpg,
thumbnails folder\artist\album\thumb.jpg,
thumbnails folder\artist\album\cover.jpg,

If none of these are found, it asks the server for the file:
http://sServer/music/AlbumArtworkID/cover.jpg

This should be the same image as displayed on the artwork view webpages
I think.. This'll be where the server thumbnail settings come in and you'll
probably need to be scanning for artwork, etc..

Anyhow, if it finds an image, and it's bigger than 100x100, it does a
bicubic resize down to 100x100 and saves the thumbnail as:
thumbnails folder\artist - album - 100.jpg
If it finds an image and it's already 100x100 or less, it saves it as:
thumbnails folder\artist - album
(note the lack of extension - this is so it works with pngs and stuff..)

Ah, not noticed that, but I guess it makes sense.. Moose queues an
album via a single CLI playlistcontrol command. As far as I can tell,
there's no way of specifying an order here. Perhaps there's a slimserver
option tucked away somewhere ? Not sure..

On the subject of adding albums though I'll shortly be re-coding
Moose a bit to add each album track, one-by-one, rather than the
whole album.. Doing this would fix quite a few problems:
* it could use file-paths rather than ID's, so not being totally in-sync
with the ss db wouldnt matter so much..
* if an album's in flac and mp3, you could just make it add the flac
files, etc..
* custom track orders
Other than extra traffic, I cant think of any downsides at the moment..

I may as well add a couple of requests while I'm here :)

May we have track number added to the /now playing/ screen?

Good idea.. Should be in the next release..

If I modify the width of the columns in /Now Playing/ it forgets my
changes after I've closed and re-opened Moose. It would be nice if it
 remembered my changes.

I'll pop that on the list..

I suspect I've done something daft.

When I load the program it sits there 'Awaiting server response'. If I
open the Library page the display at the bottom says 'Connected to
 server.. logging in.. please wait'.

Local details: This is on Win XP Pro SP2, SlimServer is sitting on
another machine and there's no security on it so username and password
are blank, clicking the browser button brings up my SlimServer web page
correctly, server IP contains the same IP as the server url, CLI port
is at the default 9090 (I've no idea how to check it on SlimServer so I
assume it's OK, I tried turning off the SP2 firewall and that didn't
make any difference... I don't know what else I can tell you.

 Any ideas?

Excluding firewall issues, it could be an invalid setting in the options page.

The value in Server IP should just be a numeric IP address of the form:
xxx.xxx.x.xx
(no https or port numbers, etc)
CLI Port should just be 9090
And Username / Password should both be blank (no spaces, etc)..

They're the only settings which would cause this I think.

Ah, good stuff.. Gotta love firewalls.. :-)

Moose is rather a nice and useful of piece of software - thank you.

Thanks, you're welcome..

May I make a suggestion? I'd like to keep this running all of the time so if
 it
sat in the system tray when minimised (perhaps defaulting to minimise to
 system
tray when I accidentally hit close!) and, when I put my mouse pointer over the
Moose system tray icon, it displayed the details of the currently playing
 tracks
for the selected player that would be rather excellent!

Well, scarily, I spent a bit of time this afternoon implementing a
tray icon. Seems to be working quite well, so expect it in the next
release..

If you did that perhaps the RMB button on the system tray icon could contain
 'now playing, library and exit?

Yup - currently trying to get the tooltip to display the current playing song..

I think I may have a minor bug. The selected player is currently playing Alien
Afternoon by Genesis from Calling All Stations. Moose is showing the filename
under Track (which may be WAD), Artist is shown as 'G' and Album is showing as
'Genesis'. The display is similar for any track it plays. The Slimserver web
page is showing 'Alien Afternoon by Genersis from Calling all Stations'.

Yes, there are two display modes - paths and tags. In paths mode it
assumes the parent folder to the currently playing track is the album
name, and the parent to that is the artist. If this isnt how you have
your music arranged, click on the 'Viewing:Paths' button at the bottom
and it'll show you the tags instead. I dont think it remembers which
mode it's in for next time yet though..

NB: It also toggles these two modes when you click anywhere on the now
playing background. I should probably disable this now..

New option - Background - which controls the background of the

Beware of the crazy and insane modes.. Just a bit of fun.. ;-)

New option - Enter Key - which controls what the enter key does in

Just tried Moose for the first time.Pretty good start - I like it, but I've found some problems (I think):
1. Main Window - if I click on the album artwork, it disapears for a couple of seconds then gets redisplayed.

Aye, this is actually an intended feature.. It re-requests the current artwork.. In the early days Moose would be told that a new song was playing, so it requested artwork, but the server would randomly return the previous songs artwork.. So, clicking the artwork fixed the problem.. Doesnt really make sense anymore - clicking the artwork should probably either cycle the jpgs in the album folder, or maybe jump to some info on the album or something..

2. With a player configured with a blank MAC address, click on any label (eg. Artist), and a lot of the text is made invisible.Click again to redisplay it.I think this is equivalent to clicking on the Viewing: button. In fact, this seems to happen if clicking on most blank form space.

Clicking the viewing button, or on the background of the now playing window switches the display between tags and paths. Clicking the larger track, artist or album text switches between 'tidy-text' and 'normal'.. Tidy-text strips spaces, removes leading 'The's and capitalises the first letter of the larger text. When I sort right-click menus out, this'll all be more intuitive hopefully.

3. Library - I'm not seeing the artwork thumbnails, just yellow circles instead.

Theare problems with these thumbnails if you use the 'rescan folders' way of populating the moo file. 0.17 added a fix if your files are set up with the following folder structure: artist/album/tracks (and accessible via the audioroot path) (and have the file
folder.jpg, cover.jpg or thumb.jpg)
4. Don't know what I did, but after bit of use, the playlist wasn't displaying any tracks, and I couldn't add any from the library.

This doesnt sound good.. If you see it again, and can repeat it, let me know..
5. I can't get the tagger app (Mp3Tag) to work.Perhaps the current working folder needs to be set to the Mp3Tag install dir when launching?

With folder scanning, the tagger, open folder and album thumbnail options all require your music to be accessible via the audio root path. Also, they must be organised artist/album/tracks.

With SQLite scanning, the tagger and open folder features dont currently work, but the album artwork should be less of a pain.
7. Would be nice to be able to drag slider bars - eg. to change volume or track position (eg. visual update when dragging such as display volume/track time as hover text, commit when mouse button is released).

Yes, good idea..
8. Is the Play button (bottom left) required, as there is a play button bottom-right?Nb. the bottom-right button could toggle between and || when play/pause.

The bottom left button shows the status of the player. I need to add graphics to those buttons to neaten things up a bit. Changing the play button to pause is now onthe list.. :-)
9. Would be nice if it could be minimised to task tray.

Coming soon..
10. Open Folder doesn't do anything.

Yes, I should probably remove that enter key option now we're dealing
with playlists a bit better.. When you press enter it does the same as
clicking the play button at the to right - ie, clears the playlist and
plays the 'most sensible' item, which is often not the most sensible
in reality..

 8. As far as I can tell this just shows the state of the player i.e.
Play / Stop / Pause, I can't get it to do anything.

It should toggle between play and paused when clicked, but with the
bitmap buttons, it makes little sense anymore really.. Actually, when
it says 'player off', if you click the left of the control - where the
'play' button would be - it'll turn on the player..

file names, does it really need to be there?

Yes, why did I enlarge this font.. Oops.. But, no, it doesnt really
need to be there, although it can provide useful information about
socket problems there..

 - I am having issues using Moose over a remote desktop in that it
constantly refreshes and flickers. It is fine on the host computer but
not when I access it remotely. Not a huge issue I just don't understand
 why.

Ah, probably the background cycling. I need to add options to turn this off..

 - Would it be possible to select multiple tracks in the tracklist and
delete/move them on mass. This would be very useful.

Yup, on the list.. I need to implement some kind of CLI message queue
first.. This'll be good for other stuff too though..

 - The losing playlist thing is very annoying for me and one of the main
limitations. I do not want to spend a signifcant length of time
compiling and tweaking a playlist to lose it by accidently not pressing
CTRL to add a file (and hence playing it and wiping the playlist). I
think it would be great to either have an option so that clicking adds
and CTRL plays and deletes or have a way of recovering your playlist
(like media player). I know I could save at regular intervals but who
 really wants to do that.

Yes.. I'll make the enter key 'insert' rather than 'play'.. Hmm..
Actually, might make more sense having an option - play, append,
insert, do nothing.. Yeah, I'll do that I think..

 - Are there any plans to have internet radio linked for anywhere, I
could really do with accessing LastFM from somewhere on Moose.

Yes, it would make sense.. Maybe radio stations should appear in the
load playlist window, at least initially..

Hi Kyle,

Firstly, by Softsqueeze, I presume you mean the SlimServer itself ?
Softsqueeze is a Squeezebox emulator, although you can use it
to alter Slimserver settings..

Moose doesnt play music itself, it just controls what your
Squeezebox(or Softsqueeze) plays. Its functionality and aims are very
similar to those that the web-based front-end provides. In theory
Moose puts less burden on the server machine, and hopefully is
much more snappy since it's a native windows application.

There are two scanning modes. The first mode scans files and folders.
When using this mode, no tags are read from the files, so it's super-fast.
This is the mode which saves you doing slimserver rescans, but you must
have your music organised in artist/album/tracks type folder structure.

The second scanning mode scans slimserver's database. This is a bit more
fiddly, but is much more versatile as it's tag-based. Again, this rescan is
quitefast as it's using the information which slimserver has already
gathered from the files.

The moose website explains things in a bit more detail, but it's more of a
manual than an explanation:

I'm sure you have billions of ideas and plans and don't need anymore, but just wanted to thank you for a very nice piece of work.

Cool, glad you like it.. Ideas always welcome.. With any luck, slim might
even promote it from being a plugin on the wiki.. ;-)

BTW, just wondering.. Would anyone be interested in a WinCE pocketpc
port ?

Some comments so far:1) The length info shown is more or less faulty. Most tracks are shown as 00:00, a few have very high numbers like
418:08 (though the web interface shows the correct time of about 4minutes).For the tracks shown as 00:00, when playing, a length of-214783648:51 is shown. Are there maybe problems with embedded lyrics and artwork?

Ooh, not seen this.. Which server build are you on ? Are these mp3 files ?

I've not really tried embedded lyrics, but embedded artwork should work
the same as with slimserver..
2) Though I have a thumb.jpg and cover.jpg in each album folder as wellas cover.jpg embedded in each ID3 tag, Moose shows no cover art in the
library view. In the now playing view however, the current albumcover is shown.

Hmm.. They use the same bit of code, so this is weird.. Have you altered the
defaults for the thumbnail settings at all ? May well be a server version thing..

MP3Gain should do what you want.. If you use the MP3GainGUI app in
windows, and use the 'Album Analysis' button rather than 'Track Gain',
it analyses the files and just writes the replaygain tag info into the files
without touching the audio streams. It'll write both track and album gain
values to the files. You can then choose to use them or not in
SlimServer..

Ah ha.. Seems the database schema's not as fixed as I thought..
I was prepared for column indexes to change, but not the actual
column names themselves ! Yikes..

New version up which should handle things a bit better (if a bit
slower).. It now checks the schema version and uses non-hardcoded
strings to map to the column names.. Guess I'll need to keep my eyes
open for more name-changes..

0.15 should hopefully work ok with 6.5 now anyhow.. I've put
some logging in too if not.

Ahhh, databases...

Hi Chris,

What are your 'Server IP' and 'CLI Port' fields set to in the options
page ?

Also, if your slimserver's password protected, is the
Username/Password correct. If it's not password protected,
these must both be empty.

Oh, also the library window sometimes gives verbose
diagnostic help in its status-line for connection problems..

If all the above are correct, it's possibly a firewall type problem.
Can you telnet to the server from a command line ?

Hope that helps,
