you can do it, but you won't be able to install ITSM on it!
Besides the 2k records per form there is also this other limit: you
will only have one thread available on the server making it impossible
to operate complex applications.

already being surpassed by 7.6 or are my old eyes playing tricks on me?

I have had issues going from patch to to anything other then patch 4, since
some of the plugins were modified.
Can you try going to patch 4 first?
