I use a G450A with my steppir three element and it works great. I purchased the
aftermarket MDS RC1 controller and Condrut's PST rotator program and it gives
me computer control either direct or remote. Condrut's program is excellent and
you can integrate it with DX Cluster in HRD for bearing
I have recently decided against installing my KX3 in my mobile as I cannot seem
to provide it a stable enough environment for it to operate. My Silverado seems
to have issues. I have decided to instead install my K3 1391 as my mobile and
over the past couple days it has been operating
Thanks for sharing this information as I would like to send up my KX3 serial
847 to Elecraft for this modification. I must be living under a rock because
this is the first I heard of this mod.

I would be careful with the RM Italy amps. I have not been able to get mine to
operate properly with the KX3 in my mobile. Lots of spurious RF issues and we
are super well grounded with ferrites/torroids everywhere.
For now I am putting in an older Icom mobile until the 100W amp from elecraft
I use some $30 skull candy ear buds with my KX3 for receiving only and they
work great. Very sensitive. I would use them with the K3 but I like having the
microphone built in so I am using a Yamaha MDE-100 and they work great. Very
light on my head and as one person mentioned about another
I operate my K3 with compression of 14 and mic gain at 34-38 depending on
conditions and environment (contesting, DXing or ragchewing). With the Yamaha
MDE-100 microphone I get good audio reports. Guess each microphone has slightly
different settings for optimum Audio quality.

I second the notion of a combined unit. My noise floor is low on 6m and 10m in
most directions (except when i aim my antennas (steppir three element and stack
of sevens for 6m) south towards Tijuana - i live four miles from the border)
nevertheless I would buy a combined unit in a nanosecond.
I am using a Yamaha HPE100 microphone on my K3 with great results. I like how
it sounds and always seems to provide ample punch. I want to get another one
for the KX3.
