Re: [Audyssey] rail racer questions
Hi, this is Che, the developer of rail racer, sorry for the delayed response, been busy with other stuff the past few weeks. Regarding multi player racing, you are given a list of tracks to race on, once you select a track, it is started on my server and is open for other racers to join. naming the race is not necessary, just let your friends know what track to meet on. We have tested races with 20 players at once with no slow down, although the average race is 3 or 4 players. as it stands, you cannot limit the number of racers. if you are used to top speed, rail racers MP racing isn't like that at all. instead of connecting to another players computer to race, you connect to my high speed dedicated server, which makes things much easier and more reliable, no looking up IP addresses and all that. as for a tutorial, i haven't done one, though I can if it is needed. however, i do include MP instructions in the online manual, which can be located at my site: www.blindAdrenaline.com From the feedback I have received from players, this is the best online system currently available to us blind gamers, due to the ease of use and reliability of the dedicated server, and will be the model for my upcoming games, one of which should be released in time for christmas, so keep up with the list here, as i will be announcing it here when it is ready for play. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask, I will be checking the list here more often the next few weeks. Re: [Audyssey] exciting free games - are there such things?
Hi. while there are certainly games missing from it, the audiogames.net database is being updated at the moment, and one thing you can do there is search for audiogames by license type. just go to www.audiogames.net and look under the "search archive" link, then select "freeware" as the license. You could also have a look at the games listed under "donation" sas those are games that are quite free to play in full form, but accept player donations to keep the games running and occasionally offer in game bonuses. hth. Re: [Audyssey] rail racer questions
Hey there Ok, so how do keys work? Say I wanted to get keys for 4 computers- how would I tell you that? And do I have to buy each key seperate? Ah, so when you select a track, that's how players know what to join- they just get a list of tracks? What if someone has, say, a gravitty puller, or super charger, and I don't? Do we get put in seperate classes? - it would be a bit unfair if that wasn't the case if I'm not mistaken? [Audyssey] News about the Sarah game
Hi Folks, I have been promising people an update to the Sarah game for months. I am planning a lot of changes, additions, and bug fixes. However some of the bugs were caused by the old game engine itself. Three weeks ago I got a new version of the engine from David Greenwood, but when I tried it out, there were new bugs in the engine that David would need to fix. Then David went to get a new guide dog and will be back in a week. This has delayed my working on the game. While I was waiting, I started writing a novel based on Sarah's experiences in the Hogwarts castle. I am about half way through writing the story and will include it as a separate text file in the next game patch. I plan to send the first chapter to Audyssey magazine to be included in the next issue. As a teaser to changes and additions, I am adding some Peruvian darkness powder, and a hand of glory. I will also be adding a hedge maze next to the Quidditch pitch. In the center of the maze Sarah will find a cup that will send her to another place. That's all I can tell you. Hi. was wondering, as i had sight when i was younger, and played the arcade style and the console based games, like Galaxian on the atari, mario brothers, 1942, asteroids on the seiger, nintendo , etc. so was wondering, would it be possible to have a external or internal text to speech screen reader on these consoles like the x box, play station 3, psp, nintendo wii, ds, etc. what do you think about this? cheers Marvin. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. [Audyssey] Accessible Game Devices
Hi. thought i would introduce my self. my name is marvin hunkin, 43, live in devonport, tasmania, australia. now, have been playing accessible games for a few years off and on. and before that, played general games at the local arcade and the roller skating rink in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia. like pacman, space invaders, galaxian, indonapolis 500, etc. and then also in the department store at John Martins in Adelaide, Australia, which is no more, would test the atari console with the latest games like ten pin bowling, pinball, space invaders, demolition dearby, indonapolis 500, galaxian, packman, etc. now, as a almost totally blind person, here's my question. was talking to some one last night, and they asked how i would play games on a normal console, which has touch screens. like the play station 2, 3, psp, playstation portable, nintendo ds, we, and the x box. and would it be possible to have any text to speech engines, built into the console or the games. always wondered about this, the game manufacturers could tap into another market, the blind and visually impaired. what do other members think, and could it be done, some sort of software or hardware development, or add-on? just wondering. cheers Marvin. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] HumanityMOO Temporarily Down
Sean, This is just me, but IMO you don't release a game for alpha when there's so many bugs. Get a select few people to test the small things, and run from there. If you just say hey, it's open, come on in, the first appearance is going to kill things. If I log on and see 10 bugs it's not going to give me a very good idea of the game, actually I'd be more likely to quit and never return again.:) Thanks, Tyler Littlefield email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] web: tysdomain-com Visit for quality software and web design. skype: st8amnd2005 - Original Message - From: "shaun everiss" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Monday, October 27, 2008 3:22 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] HumanityMOO Temporarily Down On the subject of dissaggreeing with games there are games that I really don't like. Re: [Audyssey] HumanityMOO Temporarily Down
hello matheus, If there is some interest, I can set up an announcements list for messages to be sent across with updates on vv, but I'll give you a bit of a rundown on what's going on. For the past few years, I've been experimenting with a mud, which was called Vertigo. It switched themes a few times, and even code bases, in my attempt to find somewhere where I could start developing comfortably. I would add bits and pieces, and then end up rewriting them because I didn't feel good about the way things were written, and how they were put together. I've finally found a builder who I can work really well with, and we've turned vertigo into VV, (Violence and violation). I'm copying some code from vertigo, but the biggest part of it is being rewritten to fit the scheme we're trying to put together. Currently, I'm rewriting main frameworks such as mobs, etc. Currently there isn't a whole lot of anything to test--combat is being worked on as we get ideas, and frameworks are being built for the game. I will post a message here, and on the announcement list if interest is shown about when it's going to be open for public. The mud I'm developing will more than likely end up creating it's own player base. With the builder I have, lots of thought is being put in to it, so I expect it will spread via word of mouth, and as our actions as an admin, and not off some other list with angry people. As for the player base, I'm not cadering specifically to the blind. I am making it a playable game, and won't be relying on maps and etc, but I don't expect it to be a blind-only mud; I will work for other player bases, and incorperate ideas that will gain more players. As a result, if people decide not to connect because of my comments about humanity, that's their perogative. I probably shouldn't have said everything I did, but it was said anyway. There is a difference here, and off-list. Here, Mike is the civilized human being that others would like him to be. Off list, he's threatened me with tons of stuff, like being hacked, etc. I'm not particularly worried about it, as apparently my internet connection still stays. His antics extend to flaming me (with massive amounts of chars on other games) etc etc. Now that that's out of the way, and I'm sure we'll get messages from all his friends denying it all, what was said was more out of anger than an attempt to kill off another coder in the community. That's all for me on this thread. However if when it does come out people are continueing to spread negative comments about your project with no feedback given to improve your project how would you feel? Also how do you suggest you attract players when you are making one of the player bases upset at you? Everyone has opinion of a lot of things. However why bite the hand that feeds you? You need this community and we need developers even if it means you dont like or disagree with the project they are working on. The negativity is so old and ridiculous. Re: [Audyssey] sArah game./
Hi Charles, I hate to correct you as you are so smart, but I developed the game and Draconis sells it. I would sell it myself if it didn't cost so much to get a credit card system. I was quoted that the cost would be $100 for the setup then a charge of $50 per month so without selling a single game I would have to spend $700 in the first year and $600 every year in the future. As Draconis already has a credit card system I didn't want to do the same when they were willing to sell my game for a percentage of the price of each game sold. For some reason I could not keep it straight as to side, direction and possession for the punt return. I tried and tried. Just couldn't get it. I have a feeling I would run into the same problem with an on side kick. My Nephew rented a game system and a college football game. He brought it over and I recorded it as he played it. Re: [Audyssey] scifi moo
GWSE was good, but there were parts of it that were broken. The host who developed Slipgate though didn't like a lot of things about it. He wanted to essentially take GWSE's space system, improve it, and build his own plotline around that. I don't know what Miriani's doing with their copy of the GWSE base so I can't say, but like Star Conquest, if and when it does open up to the public I don't expect we'll see too too much different from the original. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Michael Forzano Sent: November 2, 2008 9:36 AM To: 'Gamers Discussion list' Subject: Re: [Audyssey] scifi moo Why take down GWSE, and have the same host try to make an equivalent. Instructions are included with the game, and for PAC Mate users and PM Omni users JAWS scripts are automatically installed during program setup. This program runs on the following devices: PAC Mate 4.1 and earlier PAC Mate Omni 6.0 and later Other Pocket PC and All Smartphones You can download the game from BrailleSoft.net. Look under Either BrailleSoft's PAC Mate Software for all PAC Mate specific games, and under BrailleSoft's Windows Mobile Smartphone Software for all of our Smartphone games. Re: [Audyssey] exciting free games - are there such things?
Hi Lindsay, Can you define what exciting and full of action means to you? It is difficult to answer this question because exciting and full of action is pretty subjective, and is pretty much defined by personal preference. That said I do have a couple of suggestions. One you might head over to my web site http://www.usagames.us and download Super Deecout produced by DanZ Games. It is a great little time waister, and is now free once you apply the official unlock patch for it. Another free game I like that might meet your requirements is Dark Destroyer. It is a modern day Space Invader clone and is also free. I haven't yet managed to put the links up for it, but you can download it direct from http://www.usagames.us/downloads/games/pb-games/DD-Setup.exe Other than that I can't think of any others off the top of my head that meets your requirements. As you have realised most of the free games are along the board, card, or Bop It lines. The really cool accessible action games such as Shades of Doom, Tank Commander, Lone Wolf, Sarah, Packman, etc cost cash. Hi Jim, Speaking of Mach1 do you have plans to add it to the self-voicing games? It remains to be one of my favorite games you made. I'd like to see it eventually have self-voicing ability with Sapi 5 like most of your other games have now. Smile. Jim Kitchen wrote: Hi Lindsay, All of my games are free. Games such as Puppy1, Homer on a Harley, Pong and Mach 1 are all live action games. Like I said, they are all free, so why not check them out. Re: [Audyssey] News about the Sarah game
Hi, Oh, shucks. I had hoped this would be the news the patch has just been released. You want your spanking now or later. Lol! Phil Vlasak wrote: Hi Folks, I have been promising people an update to the Sarah game for months. Re: [Audyssey] Accessible Game Devices
Hi Marvin, That is a good question. Technically the operating systems that are used in those game consoles are fundamentally able to run a screen reading device. However, since the version of Linux used in the PS3 and the version of Windows that powers the XBox are extremely stripped down and are so customized to the point no existing screen reader for Linux or Windows will currently run on those proprietary versions of the consoles operating systems. While I think it is technically possible for Microsoft and Sony to add screen readers to the consoles they produce they never will. First, there is not enough demand for it. A few hundred or thousand blind customers doesn't mean much when they sell to millions of sighted people each year. Second, a screen reader wouldn't work anyway. This is going to get a bit technical, but there is a total difference in the way a standard Windows application like notepad, Internet Explorer, Word, whatever displays text and the way a vidio game displays text. In vidio games often times the text is graphically drawn to the screen and is an image of text and not text like in applications. That is why if you go out and buy a PC game like Tomb Raider Anniversary Jaws, Window Eyes, and NVDA just say blank, blank, blank, or graphic, graphic, graphic even though you are in a game launcher dialog. That is because what is displayed isn't text but graphics saying launch game, load game, exit game, configure settings, etc. The only way to solve that issue is to rout the text directly through to the screen reader through its API such as the Jaws and Window Eyes API, or to inbed something like Sapi into the game which will announce what graphical text has focus. So bottom line what we need is not a screen reader per say, but a TTS engine that all games for those consoles would include into their games. I know of some engines like Cepstral that could be ported easily to those consoles, but lack of demand and licensing costs makes it pretty much unlikely. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. Hi Liam, Truer words have never been spoken. I have heard a lot about the Linux Geeks that were putting Linux on there game consoles like the XBox, but it ended up just being totally pointless in the end. After they did that the only games there could run were the games made specially for Linux such as the open source version of Quake, Pengwuine Command, Ice Breaker, Asteroids, KDE Packman, whatever. If I remember correctly you could install linux on a Xbox and still switch to playing xbox games. I think you had a boot screen at the start up. Problem was, you had to get a mod chip and then find the flash for the chip and software to make it all work. At the time the Xbox came out I was already out of the Video Game biz. I used to Mod PS1's and other systems for people. To be able to play out of state games and other things. I have every system that was made since Atari up to the 360, only system I don't have, and will not buy is the PS3. I love playing my Neo Geo. Street Fighter rocks. Re: [Audyssey] rail racer questions
Hi Tyler, The game is smart enough not to let you race on atrack that is to difficult for you. All of the various tracks have a class rating. If you are only a class 1 or class 2 racer it won't let you race on tracks that are rated class 3 and above. It is as simple as that. As far as not having something all I can say is save your earnings from the races you win. Do a lot of practice off line so that you can purchase all of the upgrades you can before going on to a multiplayer race that requires a certain upgrade to race a difficult track. Now, as I recall if you are say a class 5 racer with all upgrades and you play a multiplayer game with a class 1 racer some of your upgrades will be disabled so you and the class 1 racer will have somewhat of a fun and fair race. Rail Racer won't let a class 5 racer play with all upgrades enabled on a clas 1 track with a new class 1 racer. It is smart enough to even it out so the race is fair. It will be your skill and experience that will give you the advantage on that track and not all kinds of upgrades. Now, Che can correct me on this because I am really not sure. I believe if you want to install and play Rail Racer on 4 computers you must purchase a key for each system. Che is using a hardware key system so that his games aren't being abused and pirated. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] rail racer questions
Hmm blah--does this mean if I had a desktop at our cabbin I'd have to buy a key for that one as well? As well as this laptop? Right now I don't really have the money for 2 keys- so I'll leave it at one. So I can play offline- my desktop has dialup internet and not really wanting to use that to play online, unless of course its possible? thanks contact details: email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] and others msn: [EMAIL PROTECTED] skype: the_conman283 system details: Hp pavillion dv5220CA notebook pc AMD Turion(tm) 64 Mobile Technology ML-37 2.0 GHZ, 1024 mb DDR ram, Fujitsu 100 gb 4500 RPM Hard Drive, connecsant AC-link audio - Original Message - From: "Thomas Ward" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Sunday, November 02, 2008 1:15 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] rail racer questions Hi Tyler, The game is smart enough not to let you race on atrack that is to difficult for you. That's all I can tell you. hmm free games with action. Hmmm. there is puppy 1 by jim kitchen if you call that action. there is the tourniment game bpc has, thats action, and the 10 min 3d verlocity game. There is treasurehunt which is free to an extent. Even though its a demo. Re: [Audyssey] Writing monopoly boards.
Hi Lisa, I really don't see there is a need for a Monopoly board maker. Making your own boards is very straight forward and easy. All you do is list the properties on the board in descending order in a text file and then save it in the Kitchensinc folder. For example, here is a copy of my Lord of the Rings board I made a couple of years back for Monopoly. Bag End Farmer Maggots Farm Bill the pony Buckle Berry Ferry Winter Top Bree Ford of Bruinen Staff of Gandalf Rivendell Caradhras Asfaloth the horse Mines of Moria Lothlorien Falls of Rauros Gap of Rohan Helms Deep Edoras Brego the horse Fangorn Forest West Fold Staff of Saruman Isengard Osgiliath Pelennor Fields Minestirith Shadowfax the horse Barad Dur Mount doom I then took that list of properties and saved them in a file like MonopolyboardLord-Of-The-Rings.txt and put it in the Kitchensinc folder. As I said you should get the hang of it really quick. It isn't very difficult. Re: [Audyssey] Accessible Game Devices
Hi, Probably. The Linux boot loader, Grub, is pretty good about detecting other operating systems and adding them to the Grub boot prompt and allowing you to select between Linux or the pre-existing operating system on the computer. I figure since the XBox OS is basically a Windows Mobile os Linux wouldn't have a problem ddetecting it as a Windows variant and loading it via Grub if needed. K. Matthew wrote: If I remember correctly you could install linux on a Xbox and still switch to playing xbox games. Re: [Audyssey] exciting free games - are there such things?
Hi Chris, Dan himself created a patch to unlock all of his games last May and announced they were all going freeware so I can say for sure they are all free. Apparently Dan's web site is still up and if you look on the main page, about half way down there is a notice that DanZ Games is closing and there are patches for all of his games that turns them into ffully registered versions. My DanZ Games mirror page has all of the games and there patches as well. So if anyone is actually selling the games they are ripping somebody off, because they all went freeware about 6 months ago or so. Chris Hallsworth wrote: They can't be. Phil Vlasak wrote: Hi Folks, I have been promising people an update to the Sarah game for months. Re: [Audyssey] A spacific chess question
Hi ron. I've seen a fair few tactile chess boards in my time, the majority have raised black squares and indented white squares, which seems to be more of a standard with them (the one I myself bought in July expressly for playing computer chess with certainly does). i have however, --- in one make of tactile board seen one which was the other way around though, so while it's less likely, it stil might be possible. So, assume the black squares are raised, and if that turns out to be wrong you've obviously got one of the less standard ones. sorry I can't be more deffinate. Beware the Grue! Hi, Sorry, I don't think I made it clear in my previous post , (getting a bit dsoft in the head in my old age), I try to be generous with folks that have multiple computers, as I do myself, and it just isn't feasible to buy a separate license for each, or really fair for that matter in my opinion, so I allow an extra license for those with another computer, but you will need to email me directly after purchase to receive it. Also, I hope to have a new tournament started in the next couple of weeks for all those that might be interested.
