Hi I've tried and tried to subscribe to the sound rts group at:
soundrtschat-subscribe@googlegroups.combut my emails just bounce back.
When I try through google it won't accept my details and the site isn't
very accessible because of the audio capture thing where you have to enter
the numbers or visual picture you hear or see. Is this group still
running? Thanks from Lori.

Not sure if anyone's played this yet... it's another game madness
production... the same folks who brought you battle zone. This is another
fun game, but there seems to be a bit of a glitch... there'll come one
point during the first level or the second one where an enemy will be on
the screen, but you won't be able to shoot it. Dunno why that is... but
there you go. Also, does someone happen to know where this game's music is
from, those who have played it? Because I know this music... from either a
game or a movie, and that's going to eat away at me until I find out. lol.

Re: [Audyssey] Star Wars Game Thoughts/Ideas

2011-05-11 Thread shaun everiss

hmmm I played prey once.
Obviously I can't give you sfx, but the sounds for organic weapons
were fleshy noises when loading, sometime charging but mostly standard hums.

Firing could sound as normal lasers or missiles or whatever.
The hits were fleshy and the amo usually ate their enemies so you
probably get the idea.

At 01:22 a.m. 11/05/2011, you wrote:

Hi Clement,

While I agree a game based on the Yuuzan Vong war would be cool I
don't believe I could come up with any sounds that would fit. Its one
thing to read about organic weapons etc in a book and quite another to
invent sound effects from scratch to try and emulate what the books
describe.

Besides as I said I'm personally getting just a bit tired of the main
characters. I grew up with Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Leia, and they
have been the main focus for over 30 years. I'm finding the Old
Republic series etc a nice refresh from all that because there are all
new characters and situations available to read and write about that
take place thousands of years before Luke, Han, Leia, etc were born. I
think this apeals to my historian side. I like exploring what life
might have been like thousands and thousands of years before the
modern era.

As far as your suggestion goes basically what you are saying is start
small and think bigger. That makes sense, but it also has to be
something I have to be happy with too. Something I'll commit too for
the long hall.

For instance, I've never been completely happy with MOTA. Its not a
bad game, but my principle complaint is it wasn't written the way I
wanted it to be written. I wanted a full blown FPS like Tomb Raider
not a side-scroller. As a result of this I'm now having to split my
time between writing the side-scroller the community wants and the FPS
that I want. Its taking a lot out of me physically, emotionally, and
financially and you can see it has been a month-and-a-half since beta
18 just because I'm spending time with essentually two games instead
of one. I'll never ever do it again for anyone. From now on I'll
decide on a single format and run with it when it comes to game
projects.

Basically, what I'm saying is I'll certainly listen to suggestions
etc, but in the end I'll be making the final calls on format etc. I'm
just finding out where the lists interests are right now. Which styles
etc people would prefer before I start into this projectin the future.

with cutsceens to explain a basic plotline and see how far you cfan
go with that. Then, once you've done everything possible with that
beat em up, move to a different genre. As an avid star wars fan I
like all your ideas... and although it would be hard to find sound
effects to fit, I would really, really like to see a game based in
 the NJO timeline.

Re: [Audyssey] anyone else get direct x seven registered?

2011-05-11 Thread Jeremy Kaldobsky
Navigate to the command prompt using the start menu. It is located in Start,
Program files, Accessories. I don't know the keyboard shortcut for it, but you
must right-click on the program and you'll be given options. The 2nd or 3rd
option down is the Run as Administrator option. There is probably an easier
way to get this mode to run, but this is the only way I know.

[Audyssey] updated gg sounds.

2011-05-11 Thread Darren Duff
Ok guys... just a few additions.

1. the music for the hotel now has a crackling fire sound behind it I
thought that would make it a little more cozy. hahaha.
2. The sounds of the outlaws in the old mine that I forgot to update in the
last batch.
I have removed the old zip file link and replaced it with this one. This zip
file includes all of my changes except the horse sounds. IF anyone needs
them let me know. Once again just extract the files to the sounds folder
making sure to overwrite the old ones.

First off... the fatalities you listed are from Kano's moveset... at

Re: [Audyssey] anyone else get direct x seven registered?

2011-05-11 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Geremy,

You are right. I didn't think of that. I'm so use to using the context
key and selecting run as administrator it is easy to forget new
Windows Vista/Windows 7 users aren't aware of how to do that yet, and
just because you have a super user account doesn't mean it will allow
you to do everything without specifically launching an application as
administrator. Its a concept I am quite familiar with as I use Linux
most of the time, and Microsoft Windows is just now beginning to
introduce some of these security features to Windows users as well. It
is easy to forget people migrating from XP haven't realized how much
things have changed regarding admin rights and accounts yet.

Cheers!

On 5/10/11, Jeremy Kaldobsky jer...@kaldobsky.com wrote:
Actually I don't believe this problem has anything to do with it being DX7
rather than DX8. Even though your account is an administrator, you have to
specifically open the command prompt using the feature Run as
Administrator for the registration to work. Many people make that mistake
because they assume just using an administrator user account is the same
 thing.

Make sure, when you ran the command prompt to register, that you told it to
 run as administrator.

[Audyssey] MOTA 18 bug and question

2011-05-11 Thread Dean Masters
I have not been following all the talk since I am just now getting to try
the beta. I can climb the rope and go to that level and get to the lever. In
the previous beta to get back down to the original level I could climb to
the top of the rope and then jump to the left. That doesn't work in this
beta. so I end up in the same room. And every time I jump off the rope and
go to the end of the room the lever is there.

Is the lever only supposed to appear once or is that a puzzle in the game?

How can I get back into the room below the rope?

Thanks,
Dean

Subject: [Audyssey] MOTA 18 bug and question

I have not been following all the talk since I am just now getting to try
the beta. I can climb the rope and go to that level and get to the lever.
In the previous beta to get back down to the original level I could climb
to the top of the rope and then jump to the left. That doesn't work in this
beta. so I end up in the same room. And every time I jump off the rope and
go to the end of the room the lever is there.

Is the lever only supposed to appear once or is that a puzzle in the game?

How can I get back into the room below the rope?

Thanks,
Dean

Ok guys... just a few additions.

 1. the music for the hotel now has a crackling fire sound behind it I
thought that would make it a little more cozy. hahaha.
 2. The sounds of the outlaws in the old mine that I forgot to update in
 the
 last batch.
I have removed the old zip file link and replaced it with this one. This
 zip
file includes all of my changes except the horse sounds. IF anyone needs
them let me know. Once again just extract the files to the sounds folder
making sure to overwrite the old ones.

Re: [Audyssey] Star Wars Game Thoughts/Ideas

2011-05-11 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Clement,

Yeah, that's true. There have been a number of new side-scrollers
coming out of late. I think a lot of it has to do wwith the nostalgia
factor of these games.

For instance, I myself use to play Megaman etc rather heavily until I
lost my vision. Now, that I'm older, a parent, etc I'd love to pass on
those same kinds of games to my kids. When I go out and buy a PS III
or an XBox 360 I want to have games equal to what I played on my NES
or Super NES back in the day as well as any new games that came out.
These remakes and new side-scrollers help bridge that gap.

Not only that we need a wider variety of family friendly games. I've
noticed a trend towards teen and mature rated games which are fine for
people in those age groups, but my son is only 6. I like to find games
more age appropriate for him. Somethinglike Megaman is more age
appropriate for him than Grand Theft Auto or MK 9 in my opinion.

Cheers!

Hi Dean,

In case you haven't read the changelog all of the levers, switches,
and locks for the statues are timed. If you don't reach a statue and
open it in time it will relock and the lever will reset. Diddo for the
doors. Then, you have to go back and pull the lever or switch again.

As far as getting down the rope thats easy. Climb to the bottom and
jump a little ways off to the left or right. You will end up in the
room below the rope.

HI Lori,

Unfortunately, if you are talking about the Scansoft Real Speak voices

Re: [Audyssey] Scansoft voices

2011-05-11 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Charles,

No, the Scansoft voices Nextup.com sell are not Sapi 5 compatible.
Those will work with, and only with, their products like Text Aloud,
Weather Aloud, News Aloud, etc. There is no such thing as a generic
Sapi 5 version of the Scansoft voices any more. For whatever reason
Nuance has decided to change the way those voices are licensed and
they are now sold with or designed for a specific product like Jaws,
Text Aloud, etc and that means if you want to use Scansoft Tom, for
instance, you have to buy a copy for each and every software product
you use. You can't just buy a generic version of Tom and use it with
everything any longer. Unfortunately, if someone wants a generic Sapi
5 version he/she has to obtain it illegally via a torrent etc.

Re: [Audyssey] Scansoft voices

2011-05-11 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Charles,

Yeah, I think you kind of did. Last time I checked the Nextup.com site
all of the Scansoft voices they had for sale said specifically for use
with Text Aloud, Weather Aloud, News Aloud, and so on. I wouldn't want
someone to buy that version thinking they could use it with game x
only to figure out it doesn't work because they aren't strictly
speaking SAPI 5 voices, but are proprietary to those specific
products.

In fact, I made a similar mistake last year. I purchased Accapela
Heather thinking I could use it with Window-Eyes, Jaws, as well as my
games and e-mailed Nextup asking why it wasn't working. They explained
I had purchased the version specifically designed for Text Aloud not a
Sapi 5 version. I ended up having to pay quite a bit extra to get
Accapela Heather v2.2 for Windows that wasn't proprietary. So now I am
a lot more careful of what voices I buy from Nextup.com now and check
if voice x is Text Aloud specific or is actually a SAPI 5 voice.

Cheers!

My reply. You can not download it legally. Bavisoft has not released this

you will need the v6 run time libraries, but you can get these from
installing MODA beta 18. That's what fixed my grizzly gulch running under

Re: [Audyssey] updated gg sounds.

2011-05-11 Thread Desiree Oudinot
Hi,
I want to say thanks for adapting these sounds so it adds a freshness
to a game that's obviously never going to have a sequel, much less be
updated.
I do have a suggestion though. The gun holstering sound is very low in
relation to the sound of the criminal as he taunts you. Could you
somehow raise the volume of the sound or use another one because I
really can't hear it that well, and I think raising it up a little in
the mix would add dramatic effect.

HI Lori,

Unfortunately, if you are talking about the Scansoft Real Speak voices
that are Sapi 5 compatible those are no longer for sale. Currently the
Scansoft Real Speak voices are designed as proprietary voices for
Jaws, Text Aloud, GPS devices, etc and will only work with the
specific product they were designed for. You can't just buy Scansoft
Tom, Karen, etc and use it with a game or similar third-party product
any more.

Ok guys, Lunimals version 1.2 beta is now posted. I have fixed a few things,
but most importantly, when you press escape it won't automatically unpause the
game. Mission 6 is now available, which lets you experience a few interesting
changes to managing your dome. I'm planning to add mission 7, and custom
games, to the next update.

Tom, Karen, etc and use it with a game or similar third-party product
any more.

I do have a suggestion though. The gun holstering sound is very low in
relation to the sound of the criminal as he taunts you. Could you somehow
raise the volume of the sound or use another one because I really can't hear
it that well, and I think raising it up a little in the mix would add
dramatic effect.

Dark,

Why are you blaming Nextup.com? They don't make the Scansoft voices.
So I don't know why you are calling them mean. If you want to blame
someone blame the developer, Nuance, who produces the voices.

As far as good voices I would also suggest cepstral.com who have
decent voices for Mac, Linux, and Windows and are actually aware that
screen readers exist and try to support as many products and platforms
as possible.

You might also want to look at the Ivona voices I think
Ivona.com
who has some of the best Sapi voices on the market right now. I know I
have a couple of their voices and they are excellent.

Hi Lori,

I can tell by the nature of your post that you aren't familiar with
torrents, but they aren't as bad as you make them out to be. What you
do is download a *.torrent file and open it in a torrent client. For
instance, on Linux I use a program called Bitstormlite and it
downloads the program, book, etc to my computer. In all the years I've
used torrents I haven't had anything major happen to my computer. One
time I did get a bad torrent with a virus in it, but Avast killed it
before it did any harm. Now, that I'm using Linux most of the time
Windows viruses etc are even less of a worry.

However, if you have Jaws 8, Jaws 9, or Openbook 8, etc you can get
the Sapi 5 voices as they shipped that way before Nuance decided to
get greedy and screw their customers.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] Scansoft voices

2011-05-11 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Lori,

Well, as I said earlier there are lots of alternatives to the Scansoft
Real Speak voices, and most of them sound pretty good. Here is a few
suggestions to check out.

First, there is the ATT Natural Voices which happen to be sold
through Nextup.com. I actually use Mike and Cristal a lot, and they
are definitely some of the more human sounding voices out there.

Next, there is the Swift 5 voices produced by Cepstral.com. Some of
their voices like Callie and Diane actually sound pretty decent
reading books from Bookshare etc. Even better yet they have 32-bit and
64-bit versions now, they have versions for Mac, Linux, and Windows
and they seem to be open minded about supporting as many applications,
screen readers, etc as possible. I don't think you can go wrong with
any of their voices.

There is the Ivona TTS voices sold by Ivona.com. These are probably
the best sounding voices I've ever heard. They are a bit on the
expensive side,$45.00 or so each, but they really sound human. I've
been listening to a book read by one of their U.K. voices, Amy, and
she sounds very human.

Finally, there is the Cereproc voices Dark mentioned sold by
Cereproc.com. I personally didn't care for their voices myself, but I
do know some VI computer users/gamers like them. They are worth
checking out as well.

Interesting. The libraries that MOTA beta 18 ship with is the Visual

Speaking of solar panels. I have an idea.

What about breeding pens. You can only have one. It costs 50 to buy, and
can be used to produce a species at 1.5 the normal rate, but it uses 5 power
per turn. If it is switched off or a new species is introduced there should
be a price for getting it back up and running.

What do you think?

That's what Nintendo consoles are good for. Actually, a wii would
cover both your needs... the virtual consoles have games from the
last 30 some odd years as well as a lot of family-orientated games.
That's where the problem lies... if you want some m or t rated games
for yourself, the wii will be very lacking in those departments,
whereas the majority of Sony and microsoft console-supported games
are all m and t rated. lol.

At 09:33 AM 11/05/2011, you wrote:

Hi Clement,

Yeah, that's true. There have been a number of new side-scrollers
coming out of late. I think a lot of it has to do wwith the nostalgia

Cheers!

have started releasing via downloads for the ps3 and xbox360 through
use of their separate online stores, it's surprising to see how many
side scrollers are coming back. Bionic commando and final fight have
been remade, though final fight only has redone graphics and remixed
music... bionic commando is a complete remake of the original. Then
other games like Castle quest, Shank, Invincible tiger... and all the
newer megaman games, of course. These are all side scrollers... and I
think, like fighting games, they're making a comeback.

Speaking of solar panels. I have an
idea.

What about breeding pens. You can only have one. It costs
50 to buy, and can be used to produce a species at 1.5
the normal rate, but it uses 5 power per turn. If it is
switched off or a new species is introduced there should be
a price for getting it back up and running.
What do you think?

 Hi Aprone,
Perhaps this is me being overoptomistic, but I
tried to
restore my saved game from Mission 3 of the
earlier beta of
Lunimals with the latest one. I had
gotten to the
point where I should be breeding birds and
rabbits, but
somehow managed to lose all my power.
The solar panels
didn't seem to be charging properly, and so I
was in a catch
 22 situation.
Is this an artifact of the old save?
 Best,
 Zack.

Re: [Audyssey] Bug in latest Lunimals

2011-05-11 Thread shaun everiss

yeah they take a bit.
I am still stuck in the second quest on mission 5 this on beta 1.
Hopefully if I update my files I will be able to switch over again
and keep my progress file.

Hi Aprone,
Perhaps this is me being overoptomistic, but I tried to restore my
saved game from Mission 3 of the earlier beta of Lunimals with the
latest one. I had gotten to the point where I should be breeding
birds and rabbits, but somehow managed to lose all my power. The
solar panels didn't seem to be charging properly, and so I was in a
catch 22 situation.

Is this an artifact of the old save?
Best,
Zack.

its just as well I have been out all day then jeremy.
I suppose its the advantage of having a different timezone.

Ah crap. I forgot to include some of the new sound files! I hate
when I do stuff like that. Thanks for letting me know, I've just
uploaded a new zip which has all the files. Sorry to make everyone
download again, but I guess you'll have to.

Speaking of solar panels. I have an
  idea.

What about breeding pens. You can only have one. It
 costs
50 to buy, and can be used to produce a species at
 1.5
the normal rate, but it uses 5 power per turn. If it
 is
switched off or a new species is introduced there
 should be
a price for getting it back up and running.
  What do you think?

this music... from either a game or a movie, and that's going to eat

Also fixed a couple smaller bugs. Enjoy!
