Please tell me how to make openoffice writer documents readable to people
without openoffice! It's really really important as I use openoffice to write
out c.v.s etc. and I've recently discovered that people can't open them and so
it has dramatically cut my chances of finding a job!
I want to search text terms in Calc to cost out formulations/recipes.
I have seen that this is not (yet?) supported. Excel does not excel
either.

In a spreadsheet, you can hide arbitrary rows and/or columns. So let's
say your sheet extends from cell A1 to cell H44. You can hide all
columns I through IV and all rows 45 through 65536. All that will be
left visible

A Find Replace triggers a re-interpretation of the values, so
Search for: .*
Replace with:
Options / Regular expressions: YES
Will also convert all the numeric strings to the actual numeric values.

I tested this myself and got the same results - although the icon color
changed for font color, my typing was in black. I was able to highlight
text and click on the icon, and the text changed color, but this seems like
an unworkable solution.
