Re: Apps on the iPad.
Hi Roger, You are not the first person who uses a different iTunes ID to your MobileMe / iCloud ID to get caught by iTunes App Store. When you set up a New iPhone / iPad, it automatically signs you into the App Store with whatever ID you set the iPhone / iPad up with. So when you purchase Apps on the iPhone / iPad , they are on a different account than your computer and therefore you receive the not authorized error. This was why I asked you to Check that the Settings on your iPad App Store (Settings Store - Apple ID: x...@.xxx) in iTunes is identical. Changing your iPad settings to match your iTunes App Store Account ID would correct the problem. Good to hear it is sorted for you now. Fwd: Re: Printing from iPad 1
Hi Ronni and List Folk Ronni, to do a test run on my iPad 2 I visited the first site that you listed: How to Enable Airprint for Windows and Use any Printer and downloaded and installed an application called 'AirActivator' I printed a Pages document - fine. Inserted a photograph in the Pages document and printed - fine. Tried to print a photograph not in a document - timed out. I next visited the teckrepublic site mentioned below. Same experience except that with the photo I got an error message Document type not supported. It was a jpg and the downloaded application 'PrintCentralPro' listed jpgs as acceptable. Has anyone had experience with either of these applications, or an alternative, and successfully printed photos? Re: Apps on the iPad.
Hmm. That's strange. I wonder Ken if you could look in the App Store app on your iPad. When you select the Purchased tab at the bottom of the screen, do you see every app that you have ever purchased using that Apple ID? You should see any iPad or iPhone app downloaded either in iTunes, your iPhone (if you have one), or your iPad. This should include the 5 problem apps and all the others. If it does not, you can write an email to Apple technical support and they will likely be able to fix it. Re: Apps on the iPad.
Hi Roger, I’ve never experienced this problem and I purchase Apps on my iPad and also in iTunes. When I connect my iPad to my computer, iTunes Opens and backups iPad then syncs automatically I see message “Transferring Purchases from Ronda Brown’s iPad … waiting for items to copy”. When you did the update to iOS5 did you do a backup BEFORE installing the Update and after installation finished, wait until it does a Sync? You have to let it complete a sync after installing the iOS Update. You are definitely sure you have the same ID setup on your iPad and in iTunes to make purchases… same email address? Check that the Settings on your iPad App Store (Settings Store - Apple ID: x...@.xxx) in iTunes is identical. In iTunes Preferences Store - Automatic Downloads - Apps is checked? And the same email address as is on your iPad? If everything is correct and setup correctly, you might need to delete the SC Info Folder: 1. Quit iTunes and any other open applications until only Finder is open. 2. Choose Go Go to Folder. 3. Type /Users/Shared/SC Info and click Go. 4. If Finder is not already set to column view, set it by choosing View as Columns. 5. Select the SC Info folder and move it to the Trash by choosing File Move to Trash. 6. Restart the computer and open iTunes. 7. Authorize your computer Then connect your iPad and Sync. Printing from iPad 1
An elderly relative has an iPad 1 and wants to print directly from it to a printer. An added complication is that her laptop runs on Windows. I looked at Printopia 2 but it appears to be designed to work with Mac computers only. Is anyone aware of software, or a wirelss printer, that would allow her to print directly from her iPad? She could not tell me her operating system but I will find out at my next visit. Thank you. Merv -- The whole psychology of modern disquiet is linked with the sudden confrontation with space-time. Re: HyperDrive iFlashDrive HyperDrive HardDrive for iPad
Hi Carlo I was happy to read your email this morning. Yesterday afternoon I had an alert for an iTunes update, for which I clicked Yes, and the update quickly did what it was supposed to do. Last night I bought and downloaded from iTunes a Leonard Cohen album. Nearly every song quickly downloaded as it should, - however one song just would not complete. Then I saw the message that there was over an hour of download time still to go! For one song? I did not think so, and managed to Pause the process. When I read your email below re the Apple update and your comment that possibly caused an unusually high load on the server as millions of copies of songs that people had previously downloaded from file sharing sites or had ripped from CD's are downloaded anew from the Apple servers in full 256 bit AAC glory. :-) - I went back into iTunes and clicked on the Download Previous Purchase button. Terrific, just less than two seconds and that last song has downloaded successfully! Hi Peter, If you mean the HyperDrive Hard Drive for iPad: http://www.hypershop.com/HyperDrive-iPad-Hard-Drive-s/183.htm It is only for Photos and Videos you require the Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit. Store up to 1TB of photos and videos”. Store some videos for a long plane flight. You can connect the HyperDrive to a Mac or PC using a USB cable, and copy photos and video files to it just like an ordinary hard drive. Photos that you transfer onto the HyperDrive can be previewed on its own screen, before you connect it to your iPad. You can only connect the HyperDrive to an iPad by using the USB adaptor that’s part of Apple’s Camera Connection Kit. You connect the HyperDrive to the Camera Connection Kit and then use the screen on the HyperDrive to locate the folders that you want to transfer onto the iPad. The contents of each folder then appear on the iPad’s screen. You can tap the Import All button on the iPad to import the entire folder, or tap on individual photos or videos you want to import. Your files are added to the Photos app on the iPad, ready for viewing. An Article explaining here: http://www.macworld.com/article/153935/2010/09/hyperdrive.html Once you’ve connected the HyperDrive to your iPad, you can use the HyperDrive’s built-in LCD screen to select a folder you’d like to access and the folder contents will appear in the iPad’s Photos app as if they were from a camera or regular SD card. Since files can only be transfered onto an iPad through the Photos app, you’ll only be able to use the HyperDrive to view iPad-compatible photos and videos. Another downside is the inability to transfer files from the iPad onto the HyperDrive—you can only get files onto the HyperDrive through standard computers or memory cards. Despite these limitations, the HyperDrive could prove useful to travelers who want to carry more videos and photos than their iPads can store, as well as photographers or videographers who need a way to quickly back up their memory cards without having to tote around a laptop.” Cheers, Ronni 17 MacBook Pro 2.3GHz Quad-Core i7 “Thunderbolt 2.3GHz / 8GB / 750GB @ 7200rpm HD OS X 10.7.2 Lion Windows 7 Ultimate (under sufferance) -- The WA Macintosh User Group Mailing List -- Archives - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/archives.shtml Guidelines - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/guidelines.shtml Settings Unsubscribe - http://lists.wamug.org.au/listinfo/wamug.org.au-wamug

Hi Peta, I'm glad the email was useful. It's marvellous when things work as they're meant to -- even if in this case it was only eventually. :-) By the way, nice choice of music. Leonard Cohen is one of my favourite artists. Cheers, Carlo On 16/11/2011, at 8:20 , peta wrote: Hi Carlo I was happy to read your email this morning. I have set up my email account and my wife's email account on Mail on my iPad. Initially I had my account set up through Mail. I tried adding my wife's account through Mail but found that it overwrote my account. Using Settings I was able to put in my account but we now share the same Inbox. Is there a way of having two Inboxes and applying a filter that places my mail in one box and my wife's in another? Help appreciated. Thanks Daniel I do have the guide but 'am still coming to grips with the meaning of the various buttons and their symbols. For those of you who have already had the experience of touch screens on iPod or iPhone I guess the symbols are obvious - thank you for explaining in plain English. hi Merv Yes, it's through Contacts on iDevice. When the iPad is plugged into iTunes you select the iPad under Devices. It will show you Summary. Beside that is Info . Click on that. It will then have a tick box to sync address book (or something worded like that. Ensure that's ticked and Click Apply to save those changes. Then when it syncs it should move everything across. Travelling Europe with iPad and iPhone4
I've most often seen questions about travelling with iPad and iPhones, so thought I'd send the group my recent experience which may help someone from asking the question over again. I have just spent a month travelling France, Switzerland, Austria and Germany. Most of the time we were in France and Germany. In Australia I have a data plan with Telstra that gives me 1Gb per month. A French friend bought a SIM card for me in France for the Orange network, with the aim of limiting the roaming charges on my Telstra SIM. When we arrived in France, I paid 35€ onto this pre paid SIM card, about A$50, and left 3G and data turned on, thinking this was a sensible option. I was looking forward to using the mapping, internet for searches for accommodation, local things to do etc. All the features I was used to in Australia. The next morning I got a text from Orange to say I'd got 3€ left. Eeek. I'd not used the iPhone at all, it was chewing through this data all by itself. And what's more, part of the place we stayed had good WiFI connection. Part of it didn't. When my French friend navigated my account usage on the Orange website, he found a long list of data downloads, each with a flagfall of 50c (I think), and whilst the data downloaded was minimal, the time was what was being charged for. This is unlike Australia where we get charged for the amount of data, not the time. At least that's how my Telstra plan works for 3G and data. Lesson learnt, I turned off both 3G and Data, loaded another 20€ onto the SIM, and resolved to never turn them on again. What I found was that calls and texts from France into Germany or anywhere else incurred international rates. When we travelled into Switzerland, Austria or Germany, all calls and texts were charged at roaming rates. Phone signal strength was pretty good all the way around Europe, and the Orange SIM connected with various different providers as we moved through their region. Frankly, the only advantage I can see of getting a local SIM card is if you want to make calls or send texts within the country you are in. Data was out of the question, and no one could help me find a pre paid that was any better deal for data. Folks, we have it good here in Australia! My son kept his Optus prepaid SIM on a standard phone without any data features. He paid $3.50 for each text he sent anywhere, and similarly high calls costs. BUT - he is on the Optus Turbo Cap so for $30 he gets $300 worth of calls, including international roaming. He figured the advantages of keeping his own number outweighed the high call costs, in particular that the plan allowed him to use his bonus value on international calls. Sure, he couldn't use data, but it seems like a pretty good option for phone and text. It's very difficult for foreigners to buy a SIM in Europe, so it's not easy to just go buy a new SIM for each country to avoid roaming charges. It also means your dial in number would change, not very useful for being contacted from home. So often when travelling, you need to phone ahead to make arrangements for where you are going in a few days. This is often in another country - which equals roaming rates. WiFi was sometimes free around cities, or in accommodation. Often it was only accessible in the lobby, often it was slow, often it dropped out. Only sometimes was it reliable and a good speed. I had purchased Groundwire, an app for voice calls over 3G or WiFi. I also had Viber and Skype available on both the iPhone and the iPad. I can't really recommend one over the other, we mainly relied on emails for making accommodation bookings. Unless you can speak the language, making bookings online is a much better option. So much like all the other stories I have read, there is no easy solution to good data rates when travelling mainland Europe. It is best to simply turn off 3G and Data on the iPhone - Under Settings: General: Network: Enable 3G - Turn it OFF. On the same screen, Cellular Data. Turn it OFF. So do not plan to use data whilst you're travelling during the day in the same way you would in Australia. Plan to use it in your accommodation, but don't rely on the promotional material to be telling the truth that they have WiFi. If you are going to need to use mapping to find your next accommodation, prepare the night before when you have WiFi; find the hotel on Maps and take a screen print of it - hold down the Home button and the Power key. The resulting image is stored in Photos. As I said above, we have it good here and get very used to just checking something on the iPhone or iPad as we want (different from a 'need'). It takes some adjustment to step back and live life on the tourist trail without 1Gb of data allowance. A couple of good apps I found were translator apps made by Lonely Planet. We stayed with a couple in country Normandy, who spoke more English than our French but fundamentally we could

I had turned the iPhone off for the plane travel, and not used many apps when I arrived, so it was set up as minimalist as it could be. I was wary and cautious about the high charges on roaming. This is often in another country - which If you are going to need to use mapping to find your next accommodation, prepare the night before when you have WiFi; find the hotel on Maps and take a screen print of it - hold down the Home button and the Power key. The resulting image is stored in Photos. A couple of good apps I found were translator apps made by Lonely Planet. We stayed with a couple in country Normandy, who spoke more English than our French but fundamentally we could not communicate with each other. Using the app made conversations happen, and the experience enjoyable. Maps of the Metro systems in Paris and other towns were helpful too, to plan travel routes. DBahn have a good app for planning train travel. Booking.com has a good app for booking accommodation, One observation is that Australians are relatively popular in Europe. People are interested in our country. Before you go, prepare a set of photos to show them to Europeans you comes across - at the airport lounge, at the bar, coffee shops, on the long distance trains, on the tourist coach

email on ipad 2
Hello everyone, I was just curious as to whether there would be an easy solution to the following problem. My husband, has a work iPad that he is unable to download any applications on, nor is he able to get to the webmail section on the internet of the provider. There are 19,900 or so (there was 20,000 yesterday) emails that he needs to download and sort through - and mainly delete, but on the iPad he can only download 45 at a time. Also so far he has not found a 'select all' option and so has been deleting them one at a time … although he is going to have another look for that this afternoon he tells me. He is using the mail application built into the pad. If anyone has any suggestions, they would be awfully appreciated at the moment! Hi Sam, Pity all the emails aren’t in the Trash Mailbox, you CAN Empty all Trash easily. Go to Mailboxes, select trash, scroll to bottom of list, select Edit at top of page. Option to 'Delete All' is in Red at bottom. Click it and...all gone There is no way to delete ALL emails. Trash ? yes. emails? no On the iPad , perhaps he could just 'Delete the email Account’ ... and all the emails are gone! That would be nice, but the boss is rather strict over how many computers an account is allowed to be seen on …. namely one! I'll see if maybe hubby can talk to the boss and either do that or get onto the web to do it …. selling point may be the amount of downloads he is going to have to do to clear it out! Hi Ronni, The font I'm using is called JSL Ancient. The limited range of fonts on the device I understand, I don't understand why it renders correctly in iPad Mail but not iPad Pages. I guess it falls under 'custom fonts are defined by the app', I just would have expected apps made by the same company to treat fonts the same way. Cheers! Hi Callum, The iPad iOS is capable of reading the font in iPad Mail, but Pages App on iPad is not capable of using the font, as it doesn’t have access to that font Yes, “custom fonts are defined by the app” as mentioned in my previous reply. csv file to iPad
From my address book in Thunderbird I have created a csv file. Is there a way of importing the file to Contacts on an iPad? I assumed that it might be through iTunes but the Library doesn't have a location for files. Using iTunes 10.4.1 on an intel iMac running 10.5.8 iPad2 has max memory etc running on iOS 4.3 Advice appreciated. Re: csv file to iPad
Hi Merv Import into the Address Book on the computer, then (assuming you're syncing this already), sync the iPad via iTunes. Data will transfer across from the Address Book on the computer to the iPad. (If not already syncing the Address Book then once the iPad is plugged in, go to the iPad (under Devices) then to the Info Tab and tick on Address Book.). A note with .csv files. Just be wary with some of it, as they can need a tidy up and some of the info doesn't always get read well. So pays to go through and clean up the Address book after the csv import before syncing with iPad. Also, make sure you've got a good backup of Address Book before you start. (User folder - Library - Application Support - AddressBook is where all the data is stored.). I normally make a copy of that onto a drive or desktop before I start. :)) Easy :) Kind regards Daniel On 10/10/2011, at 10:23 PM, Stephen Wonfor wrote: Merv Sometime you can get lucky by eMailing the file to your iPad and seeing wqhat app tries to open the attachment, Stephen --- If I listened to what my customers wanted, I'd have built a faster horse. --- Henry Ford On Oct 10, 2011, at 8:04 AM, Merv Bond wrote: From my address book in Thunderbird I have created a csv file. Problem solved! I took it to NextByte and discovered that the Camera Connection plug was faulty. I replaced it with a new one and now all is good - simple - as Ronni said it should be! Thanks to all those who offered advice. Lloyd Lloyd --- Hi again Lloyd, It is simple, very simple ;-) If you have imported photos from these cameras before into iPhoto on your Mac, the import setting on the cameras is already set correctly. The Canon USB interface name it PTP, other cameras either PTP, PictBridge or PTP/PictBridge. If you haven¹t been able to use the cameras on your Mac as well, check the USB Cable, try another USB Cable. Apple iPad Camera Connection
Hi everyone, I have an iPad 1 and Camera connection plug and cable. I am using two cameras, a Canon and a Nikon. When I connect either camera to the iPad a message comes up that the device is not supported. I rang the Apple supplier and was told to dismiss this message and carry on. In the photos application I see a blank box called Saved photos, but no photos are there. Just a black rectangle. Same with both cameras. None of the photos have been transferred. I have the latest software on the iPad. The Apple guy says that it should work but has no further suggestions. I am hoping the collective genii of wamug might have some ideas. Hi Lloyd, I’ve never received the message you have. This is how it works: 1. Connect a USB cable between the camera and the USB adapter. 2. Unlock the iPad if it’s currently asleep, and plug the adapter into the iPad’s dock connector. After a few seconds, the Photos app launches, and a new Camera button appears on the bar at the top of the screen. Thumbnails of the available photos and video clips appear below. 3. Now, do one of the following: *To copy all of the items to the iPad, tap the Import All button. *To be more selective, tap the items you wish to import; a blue checkmark symbol indicates the item is queued for import. Once you’ve made your selections, tap the Import button; the app gives you one last chance to import all items, or you can import just the selected ones. 4. After the transfer is complete, you’re asked if you want to delete the imported items from the camera or keep them. Tap the Keep button—it’s better to format memory cards within the camera instead. Re: Apple iPad Camera Connection
Hi Lloyd, Also check that you have the Camera /s in the correct mode to import photos via USB. The Canon I think uses PTP for photo import. This is mentioned in one of the links below that Alan has supplied: If your camera supports both PTP and Mass Storage Device modes, it may be necessary to use both modes to import all media content. If some files do not import as expected using one mode, try switching to the other mode and importing again. Note: Some cameras may refer to PTP as Pictbridge or PTP/Pictbridge.” Cheers, Ronni On 30/09/2011, at 9:53 AM, Alan Smith wrote: Hi Lloyd Like Ronni, I've not had that problem. Now on to Ronni's advice on importing modes. And I thought it would be simple !! :-) Lloyd --- Hi again Lloyd, It is simple, very simple ;-) This message will probably not get through to WAMUG Mailing list as MobileMe email is down and has been most of the morning. Now they say they are doing maintenance :-( If you have imported photos from these cameras before into iPhoto on your Mac, the import setting on the cameras is already set correctly. The Canon USB interface name it PTP, other cameras either PTP, PictBridge or PTP/PictBridge. If you haven’t been able to use the cameras on your Mac as well, check the USB Cable, try another USB Cable. does anyone know is there a connector which will plug a modern camera directly into an ipad for direct importation? eg mini-USB to 30-pin connector? The iPad Camera Connection Kit gives you two ways to import photos and videos from a digital camera: using your camera’s USB cable or directly from an SD card. iPad and the Camera Connection Kit support standard photo formats, including JPEG and RAW, along with SD and HD video formats, including H.264 and MPEG-4. http://store.apple.com/au/product/MC531ZM/A Cheers, Ronni 17 MacBook Pro 2.3GHz Quad-Core i7 “Thunderbolt 2.3GHz / 8GB / 750GB @ 7200rpm HD OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard OS X 10.7 Lion Windows 7 Ultimate (under sufferance) -- The WA Macintosh User Group Mailing List -- Archives - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/archives.shtml Guidelines - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/guidelines.shtml Settings Unsubscribe - http://lists.wamug.org.au/listinfo/wamug.org.au-wamug

Hi Laura, Ok, its a POP Mail Account, check these settings: 1. Go to your Settings app and choose the Mail, Contacts and Calendars” 2. Select the account you're having trouble with. 3. Scroll down to the Advanced button and select it. 4. Select when to remove “Deleted Messages, such as one week or one day later 5. Then select the Delete from server option and choose when you want the mail deleted from the server. As long as neither option is set to Never, you should not have issues. Some POP accounts may have additional options, such as enabling a Trash folder. If this option appears in your Advanced screen, make sure the Trash or Delete folder is enabled. In regards to you question below I also regularly get messages that say no sender in which there is no content. These cannot be deleted. I have to re start iPad to clear them. These are SPAM emails. Re: Further details about iPad Apps
Hi Ian, Apple puts out a document called the Human Interface Guidelines, or HIG for short. It has rules that all interface developers must follow. When it comes to toolbar icons there is a very short list of standard icons that are provided in the development kit and the rest are created by individual developers. The HIG does place restrictions on the size of the icons, and the format and contrast of the images, but each developer that produces an app is pretty much free to choose icons. Apple polices all apps and will reject an app that is misleading so developers tend to try to make the images suggestive of the task that the button will perform. The main guide in this area is the powerful set of apps produced by Apple itself -- Number, Pages, Keynote, iMove, iPod, etc. When developers want an idea for an icon they quite often check to see how Apple solved a similar problem. So a subset of icons have become de facto standards for particular tasks. I will put together a list of common icons over the next few days and post back to the group when it is done. I would do it now but I have some pressing preparation to do for classes on Monday and Tuesday. Cheers, Carlo On 2011-09-11, at 21:33, Ian Reid wrote: Thanks Carlo for the details of Apps mentioned on Tuesday night. iPad apps used in teaching physics and maths
In response to some requests, here is a list of iPad apps that were demoed at tonight's WAMUG meeting. The apps are used in the teaching of Physics tutorials and labs, and a Maths tutorial. The iPad replaces 10 - 20 kg of manuals that I would usually carry in a back-pack while cycling to classes, and also carries a whole library of reference works that I normally would not be able to take along. Apart from having less weight to carry, if the trend catches on for student text books, many fewer trees will be felled to make paper. iBooks - free download. Apples own classy, fully featured electronic book reader. Includes many visual effects that are starting to appear in imitations. The collections feature can be used on the iPad itself to group books. All the classic physics texts are loaded for reference along with the current first year, UWA texts. A library full of information! I have one young student who was actually issued an eBook Maths text by her school. It has a nice feature that tapping on a maths problem jumps to the solution and vice versa. GoodReader - $5.49 Used to mark up PDF's with type annotations, hand written text, and highlighting. Used to access lab manuals, assignments and assignment solutions. Documents that benefit from annotation and notes. It replaces what usually becomes a 5 centimetre thick manilla folder of papers. And many poorly printed lab manuals. Numbers - $10.49 Apple's own user friendly spreadsheet. Used to record student attendance lists, and grades. iCloud, when it appears (next month according to the Apple press), will automatically sync Numbers spreadsheets between all your Macs and iOS devices. powerOne SL- free for non-professinal version This has become my calculator of choice. For the older geek crowd it supports Hewlett-Packard reverse polish notation! Video and iTunes U - included in iOS iTunes U is just a wonderful resource. For instance there is a Stanford U series on Thermodynamics, an Oxford U series on Quantum Mechanics, or for software developers there are all the sessions from Apple's latest World Wide Developers' Conference. Many amazing lectures on most every topic are available from top flight universities and teaching institutions. Missing iPad movie project sent to iTunes
Where is my movie? I created an iMovie project on my iPad2 (WiFi version). Sharing options in iMovie include sending a project to iTunes for archiving, or for further editing and sharing on other IOS devices. iPad message says file has been sent (The Toast.iMovieMobile). I can't find it on my iMac in iTunes, iMovie, Spotlight, or by searching Finder. Seemed exceptionally fast in transmitting the data (a second or so?) so perhaps it didn't really transfer at all. Another option of sharing the movie directly from iPad to YouTube worked OK (and took a long time). Re: Missing iPad movie project sent to iTunes
Hi Alan, I'm not sure if this will help you. iMovie for iPad- How not to lose all your iPad iMovie clips. When you export a movie you have the option to send it to iTunes. This actually creates an Archive copy of the movie. This .imoviemobile file contains the project and copies of all the audio and video clips used in it. To archive your finished project: Choose the movie on iMovie's My Projects screen. Tap the Share icon (with the arrow springing out of it) Choose iTunes Once the project is archived it's a good idea to keep a copy on your desktop. Sync with iTunes Choose your iPad in the Library list click the Apps tab Scroll down to File Sharing click on iMovie drag your project from the list to a safe place. There will also be a copy remaining on your iPad. To unarchive the project: Press the Download button to verified that your movie is in the iTunes File Sharing folder. Tap the screen anywhere to cancel the download. Trash the movie from the iMovie My Projects screen. When asked if you want to delete the copy, choose Don't Delete. Press the Download button again. Choose your movie from the list. The project will reappear on your My Projects screen. You can now delete the clips of the project from your camera roll, since this version in iMovie now contains them all. If you have the space, you can keep the iTunes copy of the .imoviemobile file on your iPad as a backup. http://wolfewithane.com/blog/2011/4/29/how-not-to-lose-all-your-ipad-imovie-clips.html Cheers, Ronni Sent from Ronni's iPad On 30/08/2011, at 11:21 PM, Alan Smith sma...@iinet.net.au wrote: Where is my movie? Re: Missing iPad movie project sent to iTunes
Thanks Ronni The Wolfe Withane blog instructions expand slightly on the Apple help file and raises a new interpretation. Perhaps send to iTunes is not literally correct.IMovie has the option to send the movie to YouTube, Vimeo, facebook, etc; and to send the project to iTunes. What I now think may happen is that iMovie (in iPad) just formats the project (as an archive file) and places it in an internal folder (Apps/File Sharing) available for the next syncing session with iTunes. Then it becomes a matter of manually copying it to an iMac archive repository. If this interpretation is correct, it will not the first time I find that Apple instructions can be confusing, if not misleading! Just as well I'm not travelling and expecting to find all my holiday movies waiting for me at home for final editing! Re: iPad and iPhoto syncing
Hi Tim, Try deleting the iPod Photo Cache, which is created in the iPhoto database when transferring photos to an iPod, iPhone, and iPad. With iPhoto 09, quit iPhoto if launched and using the Finder go to Pictures iPhoto Library. Control-click on the iPhoto Library and at the menu window that appears, select Show Package Contents. Locate the iPod Photo Cache folder and delete this folder. Try syncing photos again. Re: iPad and iPhoto syncing
Thanks Ronni, I am using iPhoto 8, but nevertheless, this solution has worked. Late last night when I was checking the Apple Discussion, I read that the iPad cache was in iPhoto Application package - which it wasn't. What I've read more clearly this morning, or maybe it was incorrect in the Apple Support Forums, from your message was to open the iPhoto Library package, and there it was. So, thanks for your help, the iPad is happily syncing away now. Re: iPad and iPhoto syncing
Thanks Tim and Ronni Fantastic clairvoyance!Just had a similar problem this morning after iTunes 10.4.1 update and syncing of iPad2 with new photo events. Found a rather cryptic Apple Communities thread that advised (without step by instructions) to delete the iPod cache folder AND to Right click on itunes program and set to run always as an administrator. Other people found this last item to be essential. I didn't do it as (a) it worked without it and (b) I couldn't find where to do it anyway.
