I use ctrl for encrease the speed and when I am close to the tree, I stop 
keeping it. Do not slow down with shift very long.

Hi Curt,

Yeah, I just hold down the control key and go back and fourth.  That is to the 
left of the hawk and to the right of the dove.  So as soon as you are passed 
the first hawk start turning right.  It is supposed to be like a slalom ski 
course.  I just used birds in trees to represent the slalom gates.

Hi Nicol,

Cool, thank you for saying that you like my Awesome Homer game.  I appreciate 
that very much.

Yes, level 5 is just the Master Mind game.  And yes level 6 has sounds from 
several old popular video games.

To jump the river and or fire on level 6, just run at them and when they get to 
a certain loudness press the control key.  It takes practice to know how close 
you need to be to jump over them.  I myself still jump too late or too soon 
some times.  But just hold down the up arrow key and press the control key to 
jump.

I've noticed that level5 is the same as your mastermind game except that
there's the sound effects of the 4 dials and the door opening.
I've noticed on level6 one of the music  sounds  is similar to packman.
I battle a lot to jump over the river.
I don't hear any warning such as a mud boundary when to jump.
When the water is loud, I hit control and then tap  up arrow many times
rapidly but I fall into the river.
Any help how to jump the river is much appreciated.

Hi Dark,

I have tried your technique for figuring out the combination of the door on 
Awesome Homer level 5.  It has worked every time.  However I can usually figure 
it out in less tries with my technique.  Of course that could be just the 
randomness of it, or that I am just more practiced with my technique.  I have 
used the same technique for years in Master Mind.  It was fun to try a new 
technique though.  Thanks.

From the instructions;


Level 4 keys

Left arrow key = turn left
Right arrow key = turn right
Left control key or down arrow key = use ski poles to speed up 
Left shift key or up arrow key = snow plow to slow down


Level 4 objective

Ski down the mountain to where Gonk has taken Marge.

Level 4 hints

Ski to the left of the hawk and to the right of the dove.
The bird in the first tree is the hawk.

And like Dark, I hold the control key down the entire time and just move left 
and right as you pass each bird.

Finally, after making it through level 1, 2, and 3, I am at level 4, 
where I have absolutely no idea what is going on at all. I tried 
turning, heard crunching sounds of dirt, hit the up arrow and heard a 
series of noises, pressed down arrow and heard this small thumping that 
looped continuously. Also, after a few seconds int the game, I hear the 
SAPI-5 voice say I ran into tree no. 2. This number does not change at 
all. It is always like this. Can someone explain to me what is going on?

Hi the level works like this.  You are skeeing down a mountain.  You have to 
pass the hawk and the dove.  The hawk is on the left and the dove is on the 
right.  Hold down control and press the left arrow key until you hear the 
hawk stop and when you hear the second one hit the right arrow key.  You are 
going to keep doing that until the level ends.  Keep the control key held 
down and the shift key will slow you down with a snow plow.

Hi Alfredo.

Glad you got through those levels.

instructions for level 4 can be found in the instructions section of the 
main menue, including what the keys do, but basically your skeeing down a 
mountain.


Left and right to steer, left ctrl to speed up, shift to snow plow (though 
myself I keep my finger on left control all the time).


Just slaalum left and right avoiding the trees with the birds in them, and 
you should get to the bottom.

The only pit that does not make a sound is the one on the first level.  And if 
you are running in the direction of that pit, you are running in the wrong 
direction.  You need to run to the left, the direction that Gonk the ape 
carried Marge off to.

File name winah4.exe  File size 9.7 meg

In version 4 I fixed the keys for level 6 that were wrong in version 3.

The winah4.exe file can be found on my free windows sapi5 text to speech games 
page.

BTW you do not need to uninstall version 1, 2 or 3 before installing version 4.

[Audyssey] Awesome Homer

Hi,

I have put version 3 of Awesome Homer up on my site.

File name winah3.exe  File size 9.7 meg

In version 3, the escape key works properly to quit any level.
And now instead of the right shift and right control keys, the up arrow and 
down arrow keys work the same as the left shift and left control keys.

BTW You do not need to uninstall version 1 or 2 before installing version 3.

[Audyssey] Awesome Homer

Hi,

I have put Awesome Homer version 2 up on my web site.

File name winah2.exe  File size 9.7 meg

In version 2 it now reads only the level or levels that you just played, but 
you can still read the entire log file from the menu.
The cut scene in level 1 is now interruptible.
There is now a warning when the chainsaw is about to run out.
There is now a different sound for jumping and ducking.
The right shift and right control keys now work the same as the left shift and 
left control keys.
Once you finish the game, you can now pick to play any level.
And the not picking up the chainsaw bug is fixed.

The winah2.exe file can be found on my free windows sapi5 text to speech games 
page.

BTW you do not need to uninstall version 1.

I'm a baseball fan, Jim.  So, with that in mind, I gotta say that you've hit a 
homer with Awesome Homer.  Cool barrel sounds, and a fun game even though I'm 
still working on level 1, and have only played it 3 times before hitting the 
hay.  Darnit!  Gotta go to work tomorrow and can't play while getting paid!

with double voice.  Or even worse there maybe a conflict if your screen

You must remove Jaws from memory or put it to sleep to play Awesome Homer 
and most of my newer games.  My games that support a joystick and or 
multiple keys use DirectX key input rather than VB6 key input and Jaws 
intercepts the arrow keys and does not pass them through to DirectX.

I know I am. And now I'm getting this bizarre bug type thing. It sems to 
hhappen anytime my score passes a certain threshhold and I die...not that 
I've yet completed level 1 as I said. But what happens is I make it to the 
first chainsaw and it runs out. Then I get hit by the next barrel. The game 
tells me how many barrels I dodged/destroyed, but then just stops 
responding. No score announcement or anything. It just stops.

Hi William,

Below are the instructions for installing my games on Vista or Windows 7.  I 
hope that it helps.

The first thing that you need to do is to run the setup.exe file in the 
winkit.zip file as it installs files that the rest of the games need.  So open 
the winkit.zip file, press S and then enter.  The winkit.zip file is the first 
link on my free windows text to speech games page.

The rest of my games require full administration rights to 
install. To do this arrow to the games installation file, press the 
Windows context menu key, arrow to run as administrator, and press 
enter. This will allow you to install the game as administrator.  Or you can just turn off the whole User Account Control thing in Vista or Windows 7 and it will do the same thing.


And here is another thing that a lady found out about my games and Windows 7.

Hello all, I just found out something I hope will help you Sherry,  ok you
no how in windows 7 we have to program file folders? One is just called
program files, and the other is called program files x86, well  here is what
happen to me. I  installed the winkit program and it went into  just the
program files x86 folder. And when I installed the games they went into  the
folder. Called just program files. So  fined out witch one is the winkit one
and go to witch of the program folders the computer put the games in and
copy and past them into the winkit one it works. 


Like I found out winkit was in the program files x86 so I went to just
program files and  copyed the games from kitchen inc and put them in program
files x86 kitchen inc and then I removed the one  in program files. Just
deleatted the folder.

Make sure you are in admenastrater

I do believe that it is always mathematically possible to jump the barrels.  
However mathematically possible may require perfect timing.  I personally have 
never seen it not possible, but I do at times jump too soon or too late on one 
barrel and thus not be able to avoid the next.

the level of the log file that you were just playing and I will look for a 
different sound for duck.  I also am making the right shift and control keys

You must remove Jaws from memory or put it to sleep to play Awesome Homer 
and most of my newer games.  My games that support a joystick and or 
multiple keys use DirectX key input rather than VB6 key input and Jaws 
intercepts the arrow keys and does not pass them through to DirectX.

Hi Hayden,

Any contact with a barrel will knock you out.  That is even if you run into it 
while running to the right.  I could make an exception in the collision 
detection for that, but really one should avoid contact with the barrels.

i believe some of the earlier Shinobi games regularly went right to left.

while however it is indeed usual to go right in games (marrio Mega man, 
double dragon, golden axe, altered beast etc), it's not manditory.


The final level of streets of rage for instance was a constant left, and the 
cave stage of double dragon had a lot of small ledges you climbed to, some 
going left some right.


My favourite games of course, Like Turrican and Metroid, and even many of 
the later mega man levels, as exploration games had no really fixed 
direction indeed, it all just depended upon where you were going (for 
instance in metroid the first game item, the morph ball was located to the 
left behind you as you started, and you couldn't progress without it).


Therefore, I personally don't mind what direction jim goes, though perhaps 
making some sort of obvious barrier such as a waterfall or gorge behind 
you, - or maybe just a plane old wall would reduce at least a litle of 
the confusion for those who aren't absolutely clear on going left.

Yep...that was something I've found as well. Something else I found didn't
really make sense...if you're following a barrel as it rolls to the right,
then how in the world would it hit you?

Yes to all your questions Jim and The game seems to behave properly now. I
was checking it out with my joystick as well. So far I've jumpt 26 barrels
so I'm making progress chuckle The only suggestion I'd like to make is
for a different sound for ducking because I'm not sure I'm pressing the
correct button on my joystick for that. I'll have to play more with my
joystick to see if I can get that down.

[Audyssey] Awesome Homer level 1 bug

Hi Shaun,

I believe in the original Donkey Kong game on the first path you did run to the 
left.  the paths then zig-zagged up the screen with ladders for short cuts.

Besides you know some people run more to the right and others more to the left.  And 
on level 4 it is to the left of the hawk and to the right of the dove. grin

Yeah, I was surprised that News Groups were still around since they started 
back in the dos-fidonet days, but there are thousands and thousands of them.

I have a few sound effect CDs that I bought at local record stores, but they 
are nothing compared to what I got from the News Groups.  But drop box or send 
space or whatever is not going to handle it I do not believe.  My Sound effects 
folder looks like
39001 File(s) 30,291,133,789 bytes
And my video game sounds folder looks like
  14345 File(s) 38,874,765,971 bytes
And those are all mp3 files.

unthinkable. And running to the right for liberals and democrats is 
unpleasant.

I haven't tried this new game yet, but in most classic games action
often traveled from left to right rather than right to left. This is

Is it possible that something as silly as the fact that western writing goes 
left to right is what makes almost all games start off in that direction?


OTOH, remember playing some or other martial arts game a very long time 
ago - in 80s where you standardly traveled right to left, but can't even 
remember the name of it, and maybe that was partly due to oriental writing 
travelling in the other direction AFAIK?

Hmm...I don't know. I just know that many of the side-scrollers
produced in the 1980's for the Atari, Colleco, and NES, all pretty
much started with the main character on the left hand side of the
level, and he/she moved right until they reached the next level. Lots
of games were like that. Smirf Rescue, Double Dragon, Mario Brothers,
Legen of Kage, you name it all pretty much stuck to the basic format.
You Walked right, jumped over pits, chasms, lava, man eating plants,
etc while avoiding some enemies scattered throughout the level.

And then you had Double Dragon II. I seem to remember that the Mansion 
ofTerror lived up to its name LOL. The music was certainly ominous and there 
was at least one platforming section that was sheer murder to traverse. Now 
there's a game that would be neat in audio.

Below is the solution to level 6 that I also just sent to Robert.  I hope that

On level 6 take the second hall to the left.  Go straight through or take the 
first hall to the right.  If you go straight through you will want to duck 
after the first hall to the right.  In either case you will need to jump over 
either a fire pit or a raging river.

Oh, you are able to jump 7 barrels.  May I ask, are you running left and 
jumping the barrels?  Are you ducking the first bird?  Are you ducking and 
picking up the chainsaw and then running through the barrels while the chainsaw 
is running?  The barrels are much easier to jump while running as is ducking 
the first bird.

wow, i never thought you would release a game of this type,it's so
addicting man, i'm trying to jump these bloody barrels on level 1, but
in the end it becomes so hard, i even try not to run, i have a question
though:
when i complete a level,and select start a game i'll be able to choose
the next level? cause if i die on level 2 for example, i'll have to
start it all again?
i think that you should make it similar to aprone's games, which allow
you to play the unlocked levels. well, but i can't comment on that
because i haven't even completed level 1 yet,lol!
also, i think there's a bug with the chainsaw, when i jump using it
instead of jumping the barrels i destroy them.
also in level 1,i should be running always left instead of right,or not?
some more explanations in the readme would be useful,but i'm getting the
hang of how to play the game.
i'm almost breaking this table, rofl! i was so pissed,i think i got more
than 10 in the first level,i was approaching the end!
ok,going to swim now and then play the game later,
keep up the awesome work and thanks.

In level 1 you need to run to the left, jumping the barrels and ducking
under the birds. Picking up a chainsaw gives you invincibility for a short
time, but you should be careful as it can expire without warning.

I've been playing Awesome Homer and have some thoughts and suggestions. 

First, Please add a way to skip the level intros when restarting a level. I
would also like to see the results of the current level read out when you
die, rather than the whole log file. Third, a learn game sounds would
certainly help on some levels, though it is not exactly necessary.

I have some thoughts about specific levels, so if you haven't made it at
least to level 7 I suggest you stop reading.

In level 1, I don't really have many suggestions. The level plays well and
the sounds are basically self-explanatory.

For level 2, it wasn't immediately clear until I died a couple times that
you need to line up the sound of both planes in the stereo field, rather
than centering the new one.

Level 3 took some getting used to how fast you turn, but once I got it it
was fine.

On level 4, your speed starts off extremely slow and increases slowly. You
might consider a faster starting speed and less finite speed increases.

No complaints about level 5.

For level 6, there needs to be some better explanation. Sometimes, when I'd
turn towards wind, I'd die without being able to do anything. Others, I'd
enter a new area where the music changed. It boiled down to trial and error
for me until I eventually got it.

As for level 7, I still haven't beaten it. When I accelerate, I hear two
cars, and try to get next to one of them, and I'd either get a crash with a
monkey screech when I ran into a car, or a monkey call when I passed one of
them. After that, I was never able to find the two cars again. Could someone
who has beaten the game please give me some hints on level 7?

Thank you very much.  I also have found at least level 1 to be addictive.

Yes, if you get knocked out on a level, you will start back at the beginning of 
that level, not back on level 1.

I know, it doesn't seem correct for the chainsaw to still cut through the 
barrels even when you jump, but I designed it that way.  The thing is, after 
sawing about 8 barrels you can start jumping so that when the chainsaw cuts off 
you stand a much better chance of not being knocked out by the next barrel.  
And you get 5 times the points for cutting a barrel rather than jumping it.

BTW you do not want to stop running because you jump farther when you are 
running.  The only time that I stop running is after the first two barrels 
waiting for the next two so that I jump them before the first bird.

Hi Bogdan,

I myself only make it through level 1 maybe 1 out of 25 tries.  I did not want 
to make it too easy.  But one thing that helps is to start jumping after 
cutting through about 8 barrels.  That way you stand a better chance of not 
being knocked out by the next barrel.  But it also takes like a rhythm of 
jumping after the chainsaw.

Um practice, practice.  That's what I have been doing anyway.

instructions and hints for level 1.

Level 1 keys

Left arrow key = run left
Right arrow key = run right
Left control key = jump
Left shift key = duck
P key = pause and unpause on all levels except for level 5

Level 1 objective 


After you dismount your donkey, you run up the jungle path to the top of the 
mountain where Gonk has taken Marge.

Level 1 hints

You will jump farther while you are running.
Duck to avoid the giant bird and to pick up the chainsaw.

Yes Karl you are jumping from airplane to airplane so you need to wait until 
they are in line with each other.

Level 6 is just a very simple maze with some pit falls without warning.  So 
yes, it is just trial and error.

In level 7, you want to just keep driving.  The first two cars just randomly 
get in your way.  There are 3 more cars that you need to pass before you get to 
the car with Gonk and Marge.

[Audyssey] Awesome Homer confusion

Hi,

first I have to say that this game really sounds great and I like it 
that you made such a jump and run sort of game.


My problem is, that I can't even begin to play level 1 properly, I 
always die from falling down a pit which I can't jump for some reason. I 
don't even have a clue how I know that the pit is coming so I can jump 
at the right time.


Some help on this will be greatly appreciated, since I'm sort of 
clueless at the moment here. *grins*

Hi Sarah. you have to run to the left you are running right and if you run

[Audyssey] awesome homer suggestion

hi jin!
i'm advancing a little more in the first level of the game,my best score
is 15. however, i have a suggestion to make:
after you get the chain-saw and start destroying the barrels,at some
time it will be disabled, but there's no way for you to know when it
will happen.
so it could happen when a barrel is coming,you would lose the game
instantly.
so is there a way for you to implement something that will tell when the
chain-saw will stop working,so the user could either run to the other
side,or prepare to jump?
some beeps,or changing the pitch of it.
or at least give the user 2 or 3 seconds of invinssibility when the
chain-saw stops working,so at least i have some time to jump the barrel.
