Hi Dark, Yeah, I know. I haven't even heard from Josh over the passed year either. I would have thought they would have had something ready by now. The mentioned the cross-platform engine clear back in 2009, and we haven't seen anything. The closest thing I have got in news is Cara mentioned a couple of times she is helping Draconis with a couple of projects, but she wouldn't say what they were specifically. Re: [Audyssey] esp pinball classic
I can understand that it is not good to pressure any developer of any game. But as far as I remember, most of the things with James North happened behind the scenes, so to speak. When the original (his) monti was announced I liked it and when the demo came out, I wanted to try it. There were issues with it of course, but since I knew that it would take a while for the final release to come out, I thought it is best to wait and see. Imagine, how much I actually was confused when the chaos broke out in the audiogames.net forum when it was discovered that he (James North) was done with the original Monti. I don't like it one bit if people want to make me do something quickly, just because they want something faster. And I also don't like people who do cause developers to go never to return. James North's Monti (full version) was supposed to ship on CD, which many audio games do not and it was supposed to have any kind of level editor which was meant to be made available for the users. I don't know how many members of this community know it, but allowing modifications and providing gamers the means to do so, is part of many a mainstream game. All Quake games and all of the Doom series are and where prime examples of that. The only games that are like games of that genre that come to my mind are Shades of Doom, the Sarah game and maybe Monkey Business, since it is a 3d game as well. But none of them is or was a game to be modified in any way by non developers up to now. OK, most of theese games are smaller in comparison to their mainstream counterparts, and mainstream developers do invest more ressources in developing games, because they have more ressources and await more sales than audio games get sold, but that's not to say that we don't have to be less creative, but that can only be achived, if we don't loose the few developers, we have, since our market is significantly smaller... --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] esp pinball classic
Hi Tomas, interesting to get such information at all. I am not one to bugger people for doing things faster and I can life with nearly no information about future new titles. But, Draconis have a website and at least two years worth of not even telling "hey, we are still alive" news on their site. And of course there is the matter of the Bowling game. As this list and you probably are aware, any Windows XP user is forced to use v1.1.0 of the game, because the now downloadable 1.2.0 release causes a run-time error on the moment of launch, regardless of it being registered or not. And there were reports of a Monkey Business level being missing or at least misplaced in their file structure. While the Monkey Business thing might be fixed easily, I don't know what causes the TPA file to crash, but the 1.2. update was ment for making the game usable and compatible with Windows Vista at that time. There are accounts of the game being usable on Vista and Windows 7, but on nothing older than thoose two, which is a problem worth fixing, I say. If they are taking care of it while doing a full scale change of their code base, then all is fine, but since we are talking about some rather long known problems here, a bit of info at least of my two mentioned errors on their part would be really apreciated, since several German players asked me to provide them the 1.1 release of TPA (installer, no keys of course, since that's illegal and because I haven't bought the game yet). --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] esp pinball classic
Hi Muhammed, That's because some gamers are impatient, unwilling to wait, and they expect people to jump when they snap their fingers. When a gamer says "jump" the developer is expected to ask "how high?" Unfortunately for them, that's not how things work in the real world. We have families, jobs, our own free time, and they expect us to put all of that aside just to answer to their every whim. After a while developers like James North just quit when the pressure got too intense to deal with. I've felt that way myself a few times. Cheers! This is very true. However... some people don't get it. MOTA which Tom has taken over was originally called Montazuma's revenge and was based on a game from the 80s... it was supposed to be the kickoff for Alchemy studios along with a high-tech shooter called Max Shrapnel. Neither them ever got off the ground under Alchemy because of flaming and whatnot... supposedly people paid for Max Shrapnel and couldn't wait for the game. Everyone was flaming James and he eventually burned out, after taking heat between both games. Re: [Audyssey] esp pinball classic
Imho that's a bit too generous for a demo, 50 minutes? you wouldn't need to buy the game to get a good play on the first two tables. My favourite demos are those like Gma which give you full access for as long as you like, but only to a small portion of the game. This way you can test the game out with no urgency to pay sinse you won't run out of time, but at the same time the developer isn't giving his/her game out for free, remember afterall, there are people who just! play demos and nothing else. Myself, rather than any sort of time limit, in pinball I'd prefer a points limit. Say of a million points in the packman and haunted house tables, this would also insure that you didn't see the minigames in those table too often either. That would imho show of the game very well, but make certain that paying was highly worth while. Beware the grue! Re: [Audyssey] esp pinball classic
hi, I don't like that idea at all. vipgameszone's demos are way too restrictive already. on-top of the 15-minute demo you also have a 3-day limit. that kind of seems wrong. draconis's system works just fine... on the topic, james north doesn't manage it anymore. - Original Message - From: "Jack F" To: "gamers" Sent: Sunday, March 06, 2011 12:57 AM Subject: [Audyssey] esp pinball classic Hi Lori, I've had the same problem with ESP pinball, in fact I've had it with all draconis and vipgameszone games. I think it may be a problem with your computer, but you can try contacting draconis about it. I in fact wish that it didn't have a time limit in days, but minutes instead. Here's how it would work. The game would let you try the packman and wild west tables as usual, however it times out after 50 minutes or so. You can run the game for as many times as you want, however if you want to play it again you need to reboot your computer. The same would apply for all draconis games except monky business. I'll talk to James about that today. And any of you please give me your reg key for self destruct. best regards, Jack __ Information from ESET Smart Security, version of virus signature database 5266 (20100709) __ The message was checked by ESET Smart Security. http://www.eset.com --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Hi Charlese. The safari table is fun, and it seems far easier to hit the letters than in haunted house, sinse they don't have the bumpers around them, this means I've got quite good scores on that table. The thing that surprised me is how fast you have to be hammering the keys to swim out of the water or run away from the kooga. the usual speed I did this which is okay for instance in running in the home run table just wasn't fast enough originally and I had to put more of a spert on. Other than that the table is quite fun, especially keeping my ball out of the snake pit. I do wish they'd included a bit more of the mighty jungle song in the background though, sinse that's a favourite of mine. Hi Dark, glad I'm not the only who felt like that about packman and the other game in the demo. Original message: Hi. Well I bought the game and have been playing it for a couple of hours now, and I actually think draconis didn't do themselves any favours by having the packman and wildwest tables in the demo, sinse the others are much more fun. They seem generally easier than most of the xtreme tables. Socker star was easy once I worked out a way of getting instant goals by only knocking out one defender, and got that instance reflex to hit the spacebar everytime I here the ball come near my goal. Safari was proving a problem until I sped up my key hammering speed for escaping the water and the kooga, once I got that worked out it was fine. Haunted house is my favourite, the sfx are just awsome (EVENTHE INTRO is cool), and probably is the hardest one I've cracked thus far, sinse some of those shots, particularly for the letter g took a bit of working out. Hi Dark, Well, as far as the demo of Pinball Clasic goes the blame doesn't fall on Draconis really. The demo has always used the Packman and Wild West tables ever since it was first released by ESP which was long before Josh came along and took it over. I agree with you, however, that some of the other tables like Haunted House would have made abetter demo table than the current demo tables. Cheers! Re: [Audyssey] ESP Pinball Classic
Most of the time, when the ball gets near a flippr it will stick, and you'll then here the scan running through what you can fire the ball at (though this will vary according to where on the flipper it is), and when you here the sound for something you press space to flick the ball. the one exception is the big extra flipper in sudworks, which you need to catch the ball with when you here it hit the flipper and the beeping sound. On Tue, Mar 01, 2011 at 11:22:45PM -, Harmony Neil wrote: > Stupid question, but does anyone know how to get the balls to move around > the table in this game? [My Reply:] Use the Spacebar or the Enter key. Pinball games usually use one of those, or maybe the cursor down control to simulate pulling back a spring-loaded plunger. The longer you hold the plunger back, the harder it strikes the ball when you release it, sending it to the top of the machine, where it will then fall down again towards you.. You then use paddles to bat it back to the top again, or at specific targets. These paddles are generally simulated with the left and right shift or control keys, as the Alt key is reserved for opening menus in Windows. Imagine your tiny self at the bottom of an inverted milk jug with a baseball bat in each hand, trying to keep the milk from spilling out, and you get the picture. The only problem is that on either side of the jug are channels the milk can slip through, around your paddles. The paddles are also about a ball's width apart, and the milk can slip past you, between the paddles. The tricky part is trying to hit targets on the left side of the jug with the right paddle, and targets on the right side of the jug with the left paddle. Skilled players can flip the milk from one paddle to another to perform this, but keeping the milk in the bottle for as long as possible is the general goal. Eventually the ball will hit something really point-worthy. The ip address from which you log in is recorded at least, so if you log in from USA and britten at the same time they will see something is wrong. Or if you appear to own about 20 pcs all over some part of a country it would look funny as well. Most people have internet to some extent. They'd have to download the game, though I don't think it is a good idea to make the user connect to the internet every time, like time of conflict dforces you to do. Re: [Audyssey] Esp pinball classic
Well actually lori, Draconis did put out news of a sale at christmas. Unlike Bavisoft, it's very obvious they're stil around as a company, offering support and selling their games, we just haven't heard anything developement wise out of them sinse their announcement that they were working on game updates in 2008. But given the time it takes to develope audio games, I personally won't start to be really concerned until three years have past completely with no release info, it even took David reenwood two years working on vip mud betwene 2006 and 2008, which is just the nature of programming unfortunately. Part of the problem is that as I've already got the pinball party pack, the wild west table in the demo isn't so surprising, and for obvious reasons the sound scape and gameplay of the packman table isn't really a great advert for the game. That would be much appreciated. I was playing pinball xtreme the other day and reminded of how much I enjoy the soundscape of the game, but the demo for classic just doesn't seem adequate really.
