I just bought a new iMac running OS 10.7.3. The Apple store transferred
the apps and files from the old one to the new one. Every thing
transferred except those apps running under Power Mac, which were
mercifully small and if needed can be accessed from the old iMac, which is
still operating.
Here are couple of problems from what is the probably the oldest dinosaur in
the group -- an Intel Core 2 Duo running OS 10.5.8, bought in September
2008. Over the years, it and I have made various arrangements and
agreements that enable us to do the reasonably simple tasks I need done.
But just

fine but during a recent move suddenly stopped. My computer is a Power Mac
running OS X 5.8. I have replaced the batteries in the keyboard and checked
the Bluetooth Setup Assistant to be sure it's Discoverable, but it

related to the mouse. Batteries are reasonably fresh, but I've noticed that
the slightest movement after putting the computer to sleep -- such as just
sliding in the under-desk tray that holds my keyboard and mouse -- will

Neal, for years I've been using Color It!. In the process of upgrading it
to v. 4.5 recently, I learned that Color It! is essentially Photoshop Light

After years of obstinately sticking with poor old outdated AppleWorks, I've
finally decided I have to face reality and switch to a more current app,
esp. one that's compatible with (ugh) PCs, since I do a lot of work with
editors on PCs; the Mac to PC translation is time-consuming and

Thanks to all who responded. You've pretty much confirmed my view of the
matter. It's very unlikely that this MacBook will ever leave the house.
I recall buying the extended service plan for an earlier Mac desktop and
never having to use it. But this is the first laptop I've owned, and I felt

After seven years, my faithful Lampshade Mac died and went to computer
heaven. Fortunately, a symptom showed up several days before, and I popped
for a new 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (why has Apple stopped giving their iMac
