Hallo Sieghard,

> as you might have seen by the "ideU" example.

I have tested your last formscanner_experimental_2.zip project.

Wow, kind of magical that it can scan and translate the captions of all the
forms **without** the need to assign the new caption for each widget, like I
did in ideU.

In the test all the froms are translated correctly there is only the main menu
where the items are not translated (maybe I missed something).

Maybe (this is a litle detail), instead of
PROCEDURE ShowFormItems (CONST FormName: string = '') that uses "writeln()",
transform it into
FUNCTION ShowFormItems (CONST FormName: string = ''): string;
And replace all the "writeln('xyz')" by "result := result + 'xyz' + #10#13"".
This to be compatible for Windows GUI applications.
But this is maybe for the end, when all is working perfectly.

Anyway your formscanner is very impressive.

I will be out of computer for some time but will come back asap.

Have perfect days.

Hello Sieghard.

For info, there is a topic now in Lazarus forum about LCLTranslator, the
"formscanner" for Lazarus LCL widgetset.

https://forum.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php/topic,59010.0.html

But it seems that LCLTranslator does not have all the features that your "MSE
formscanner" has, for example it only gives the caption of widgets (not the
hint, not list of combo-box, etc)

I updated the mseide-msegui tool with your new code:

For your "formscanner" of course it is not a easy project and sure it will take

highly needed. ;-)

Ok, tested and I get verigo...
With your formscanner it opens the way to a "totally dynamic po-mo" loader, no
need to declare enums nor arrays of strings, all is done by your scanner.
Well, of course it is much easier for the developer, no need to update the
"captionproject.pas" unit.

May I ask you what is your idea to assign the captions of a selected language,
should be still needed, like I do now, a procedure with the list of all the
widget.captions to be changed?

Yes, excellent.
Imho, it would be perfect if you could incorporate your string-extractor into
/mseide-msegui/potools/MOdemo and POdemo (or do a new PO tool).
So mseide-msegui will have a complete demo of what we can do with PO/MO files
with all the tools included.
Of course in the POtools-string-extractor there will be only few captions but
it is ok to understand how it works.

And for ideU it is perfect to test your string-extractor with many different
caption-widgets.

By the way, I just finish to extract (mainly manually) all the captions of a
other project:
https://github.com/fredvs/strumpract

And it was a long and boring work, your string-extractor would have been very

Your change are commited in Githhub.

About compatible fonts by language, in last commit there is in "Setting
Language Form" a new grid with all the compatible fonts of the selected
language.
It is updated live when you select a language. (see picture)
And when you select a font, it set live all captions of ideU, so good for
testing and find your favorite font.
At the moment list of compatible fonts works only for Linux, for Windows only
the pre-defined fonts are listed.

Hello everyboy.

Chinese ideograms can be rendered on Linux perfectly for each msegui widget.

The trick for Linux:

1) In console look for the fonts installed compatible with Chinese ideograms:

`$> fc-list :lang=zh`

2) Chosse one, I took randomily **'Noto Serif CJK TC'**

3) Use that name for the font.name of the widget:

tlabel1.font.name := 'Noto Serif CJK TC';
tlabel1.caption := '是的全部' ;

And it should work (see picture).

It works also for ideU, just use 'Noto Serif CJK TC' as font in settings.

ideU does not use BGRABitmap for himself (no need) but can, of course (like
mseide),
compile and run msegui applications that use BGRABitmap.

https://github.com/bgrabitmap/bgrabitmap

BGRABitmap is MSEgui compatible (thanks to Johann Elsass) since MSEide+MSEgui
5.2.0. Sep 19, 2020.
  https://github.com/bgrabitmap/bgrabitmap/issues/79

To use BGRABitmap with MSEgui, just add the path to BGRABitmap source and those
2 parameters:
  -dclass_bridge
  -dBGRABITMAP_USE_MSEGUI

Andt you may use all the "many" graphic methods that BGRA offers.

There is a msegui simple demo in BGRABitmap/test
https://github.com/bgrabitmap/bgrabitmap/tree/master/test/test4ideu/fractal_tree

There is also StrumPract, a complete MSEgui audio project, that uses BGRABitmap
for the animations and graphic things.

Hello Sieghard.

Just for curiosity, how is the rendering of no-latin characters (Russian,
Hebrew, Arabic, Chinese) on your system with ideU?
Here on Linux Debian 10, all characters are correctly rendered, apart Chinese
ideograms.

On Windows 10, all is correctly rendered, also Chinese ideograms.

Maybe one solution for Linux and Chinese ideograms is to use BGRABitmap and his
BGRAText feature.
BGRABitmap is working perfectly with MSEgui but I was not able to render text
with BGRAText.
I created a issue of that in BGRABitmap-Github but no much noise as answer.

If BGRAText is able to work with MSEgui too it could be a great workaround for
the problem of MSEgui ideograms on Linux.
Just create new widegets using BGRAText for the caption (or even better give
the choise, for each msegui widget, to use for caption the MSEgui way or the
BGRAText way.

But, of course, the fix the MSEgui-text for ideograms on Linux, it is welcome.

Huh, not really, last night I commited change after playing with your code (
perfectly clear, I should adopt if for PO file ), removed all dependencies to
en_langnametext (that does not exist any more).

And to create the languages list, it is done with findmofiles(), using this for
each mo file found:

   setlength(lang_langnames, length(lang_langnames) + 1);
   MOfile:= TMOfile.Create (dir_mo);
   str1 := MOfile.Translate('English [en]');
   MOfile.Destroy;
   lang_langnames[length(lang_langnames) - 1] := trim(str1);

All is working perfectly.

I only found 1 problem with 1 file during conversion of po files using your
POtoMO converter.
It is with the ideu_fr.po, the conversion fails and the console must be killed,
sometimes needs a reboot too.
I did check and re-check the ideu_fr.po and a (strange) workaround is to add
this at end of file:

 msgid "dummy"
 msgstr ""

But this is not important, the workaround is ok.

Have a fun week-end Sieghard.

OK, I adopted your way for PO files.
It is way better, no more lang-name constants, no complicated check for lang
code, no limitation of number of po files, and much more.
(See picture).

The change are commited in ideU (the new PO files in /src/lang are needed).

I did not touch to your MO file code, it still work with the "lang-name const

Hello Sieghard.

After lot of think, imho, your proposition is the best.

Adding all the languages of the world translated for each language need lot of
more work and the result is not really util.

So, if I understand ok your way, there will only have one language entry for
each po/mo file:

For German po/mo:
msgid "English [en]"
msgstr "Deutsch [de]"

For French po/mo:
msgid "English [en]"
msgstr "Français [fr]"

etc...

And the names of language always in native language.
And those unique msgid/msgstr will be used for the language-list.

It has the advantage to simpify all and is more clear for the user to choose
the language with native translation.
Also no restriction if the po/mo file uses a "exotic" lang code (no check
needed).

Is it so?

About the Setting-Lang menu item.
Indeed, very easy to be lost if you dont know the language ( by the way, in
ideU, there is "(lang)" after translation of "Language" to recognize it).
Maybe that Setting-Language menu item should be in the main-menu (not sub-menu)

Or add a "Language" button with a easy to recognize icon.

A other solution is to add the missing lang names of the world + code into the
actual en_langnames array.

And to define the list of languages disponible, check the po/mo files in /lang
directory.
Of course update all the the existing po/mo files with the translation of (lot
of) languages of the world.

That way, the names of language are still translated (but it needs to update
all the po/files, with GoogleTranslate it is done fast).

2022-03-08 Thread Fred van Stappen
Hello Sieghard.

About the lang name array.

Maybe the best is to forget to have the translation of the name-languages for
each po file.

And only use a fixed array of all the Lang-Code + Lang-English-name and define
the lang name to store in the lang-name-array checking what po/mo files are in
/lang/.

It will solve also, like you noted, when number of po/mo files < length of
lang-name array.

I have already that list ( 185 code+name ) and we can use it into mseconst.pas
as a new all-codelang array to retrieve the name of the language via the code
lang of the po/mo file.

But this all-lang-name-array should not be translated, it is used only to give
lang-name to the po/mo files.

Of course that way, the name of the language will be always English for each
language.
Yes, having the translation of all the language names would be better ( but
utopic ).

A other solution would be to only use the translated word "Language" (that has
already a entry) + the code lang.
That way there will not have any English words in the layout of each language.

I will study next part of your post asap.

Write you later.

Hello Sieghard.

A fast answer to your post...

At the moment, without recompilation, if you add new mo/po file in /lang
directory, in the languages list of /menu/settings/lang, the new language will
appear at end of list with only, as name, 'Language" and the lang-code.
(It is how "createnewlang()" works in my po2array.pas.)
By the way, in ideU source, your "po2array.pas" was renamed "mo2array.pas", I
did not check how you do if the number of mo files are > than the length of
language array.)

I agree it is not ideal, maybe the name of the language should be strored into
the po/mo file into a comment and use that as language-name.
But, indeed, for all the other languages, only the English name will appear (or
need to add the translated name of new language for each language.)
Yes, there is something to think there.

Anyway, answer to your previous post will follow asap.

Thanks Sieghard.

Yes, indeed, that's how it's set up. And now that I recompiled and
rechecked ideU using an application unaware (p|m)o4stock unit it DID
indeed compile and run correctly.
Sorry for the upheaval, I seem to have mixed up something, maybe
because I'm keeping several mseide-msegui versions around for older
projects and switch between them if needed.

> See in mseconst.pas, there are some {$ifndef mse_dynpo} to use the

Yes, I realized that, but by some means, the en_langnamestext:array
stubbornly kept a size of "6" and a value of "nil". Only when I had
changed it to a dynamic array (and the one in captionideu.pas too) it
behaved.

Yes, this requires an application to provide such an array in any case.
And declaring the array as a constant makes it impossible to change the
number and kind of languages supported later on without recompilation.

Really only from 3.2.0 on? The fpc documentation file "ref.pdf" says:
"As of version 3.0 of Free Pascal, Dynamic array types have a
constructor.", and that's the file that says in it's title
"Reference guide for Free Pascal, version 3.0.4", so it must have been
available at least from that far back. But still, that might not mean
from 3.0.0 on already.

> But, once again, maybe I miss something.

Sorry for the wrong complaint, so all seems well in this respect.

> I will study the rest of your post this week.

Thanks for your kind regard.

In the meantime, I will probabely try to let the unit make use of
Linux' general storage method fpr application language files, in case
some maintainer wants - requires - such a set up.
The anguage path definition is already set up in such a way that it
provides your "standard" setting without any further intervention, but
can still be modified by the application through simply assigning the
"new" path to the variable "LangDir".

BTW, as an aside, I did modify the mse file directory on my web site
to make it accessible by a browser for directory display and file
download, but it HAS to be addressed explicitely by giving a full URL,
it is NOT reachable from the main page. My firefox even wanted to
"see" the main page first and then be redirected to the download URL,
but I don't know whether that's a general requirement.

Hum, not really (or I miss something).
"en_langnamestext", contains 6 entries only if you dont use the parameter "
-dmse_dynpo".
Those 6 entries correspond to the units mseconst_xx.pas that will be used if
you use the old "static loading of lang-units" way.

See in mseconst.pas, there are some {$ifndef mse_dynpo} to use the "original"
mseconst.pas.
For example, in ideU, the lang array is in captionideu.pas (not in
mseconst.pas):
   en_langnamestext: array[0..14] of msestring = (

Of course you may use a dynamic array :
   en_langnamestext: array of msestring = (
but this will work only for fpc > 3.2.0 so, to keep backward compability, I

Yes, I know it is very boring and each time that a bug appears, it is very sad

I really hope that last commit has fixed everything but I cannot guaranty it.

Also take in account that fpc, mainly since fpc 3.0.0. does lot of change and

If yes, you will see that Lazarus is stiked with fpc 3.0.0, using fpc 3.2.2

And compiling Lazarus with fpc 3.3.1 is not yet possible (or higly instable).

MSEide on his part is fully compatible (with fpc 3.3.1. trunk of today).

mainly fix incompatibilities added in fpc trunk.
And since msegui 5.6.6 was added our "dynpo" dynamic loading of po-mo files
(that should be completely ok in last commit 5.6.7).

Now when to decide to release msegui 5.6.8...
I wait for your green light, it seems that for Code DZ it is ok.
It would be fantastic if Med could take a look at database to check if all is
ok (he is the MSEgui database guru).

Hum, you see, it is the same for me, without git or svn, it is impossible for
me to know if you did a new zip file (I dont have access to your site)
Maybe it was not the last version that I used, so I will re-download it and try
it.

Ho but this is already a old version, there was a release 5.6.6 2022-02-21 and
it is version 5.6.7 at the moment.
The next release will be 5.6.8.

The last commit of version 5.6.7 is here:

Hello Sieghard.

Thanks for your kind remarks.
Your code is added in last ideU commit:

https://github.com/fredvs/ideU/archive/refs/heads/main.zip

Note that you will need to use the directory /ideu/src/lang who has the po and
mo files (check your Settings/General Settings/Directory_of_lang).

In menu /Settings/Lang form there is a new checkbox: "Use MO files instead of
PO files" to switch live loading PO or MO files (see picture).
(This is more for testing and to mesure the gain of speed to load MO vs PO
files, it uses your MO code or my PO code without any conflict).

Also was fixed (I hope) the problems of position of Dialog forms.

> as this gives me an "Access violation" error" when opened in
> mseide (version 5.6.5 from 17.Feb 2022).

Yes, indeed there was problem with that version.
Thanks to Code DZ it is fixed now but you will need to recompile mseide with
last mseide-msegui commit, the same for ideU.
This link always has the last commit:

https://github.com/mse-org/mseide-msegui/archive/refs/heads/main.zip

After a new release with big change (it is the case of msegui 5.6.4) errors
and bugs may appear...
And it is the case.
If you see other problems it will be great to show it and then I will do asap a
"corrected" new release.
It seems to me that now, with last commit, mseide-msegui is ready to have that
"corrected" new release 5.6.6.

About the PO files not "legal" OK, I need to check this following your advices,
I will do it asap.

Have a perfect week Sieghard and many, many thanks for your attention.

Re-re hello Sieghard.

About your POtoMO tool:
https://github.com/mse-org/mseide-msegui/tree/main/tools/POtools/POtoMO

When I use it to re-create a MO file from a updated PO file of ideU project,
the PO result is not synchro with the captions, they seem random.
(With the MO file you provided from the zip file it is ok.)

Must something be changed in the POtoMO tool?

Thanks.

Ha, ok, excellent news.
I have to confess that I dont have the energy to create a fpc-issue.
It will take centuries before maybe be assigned then millenium to be fixed.

Also I did try benmarck for float calculation (on Linux) using all

And -O3, -O4 has less good result than -O2 !

For fast optimization we need MSElang compiler and his LLVM optimizer  (or

Hallo Fred van Stappen,

there's another amendment to the msegui library files, this time
concerning a couple warnings the compiler issues about 2nd level
comments - it doesn'r like them, but doesn't get distracted either.
I did NOT make any modifications against the many more warnings about
implicit string format conversions as this required a thorough
examination of the code.

Also, I uploaded another file containing a modification for your ideU,
making it capable to read .mo files for localization, using a new unit
I called "po4stock" (which cares for the "stock" items), which actss
in conjunction with a very much stripped down "po2array.pas" unit to
provide the apllication dependencies.
On my (IMHO not so slow, AMD A10-9700 "APU" @ 3.3GHz clock & W/ 4GB
memory) the .po based ideU shows a noticable delay of about 1/4 to 1/2
second when changing anguages, the .mo based version does it nearly
instantly, especialy after the first time, where it takes perhaps a
bit less than 100ms. This isn't an important point for your ideU, I
understand, but it might be of interest for other applications.

Anyway, the new files are on my web site, available as usual. They're
named "msegui-lib_dynpo.zip" (as before) and "ideU_mo.zip" (ideU).

Best wishes for a new week!

There was incompatibility added 6 months ago in fpc 3.3.1 trunk. (at least for

OK, I just tested mseide compiled with fpc 3.2.2 and -O3 on Windows 10 and all

So it is maybe related with Windows 7 (but I cannot find such machine at the

Or maybe it is hardware related, -O3 try to optimize with a flag that dont work
on your machine or something like this.

It would be great if you could have more infos debugging mseide (if debugger by

Re: [MSEide-MSEgui-talk] Release 5.6.6.

2022-02-28 Thread Fred van Stappen
Re-re-re hello Code DZ.

Note that if you dont want to see the TEdit pop-up there is
Tedit.optionedit.autopopupmenu to set it.

But to come back to your initial question, even with a custom tpopupmenu set
for the Tedit.popupmenu the font of main form will not be inherited, the same
for Tmainmenu font.

Imho, it should be (but maybe it will add more problems,).

Haaa + ps I think I get what you ask.

By default, a TEdit shows a popup with "Copy/Paste/Cut" items.
And this popup font indeed can not be set.

To have a custom pop-up, just add a tpopupmenu1 on the form and assign in
Object inspector for TEdit1:

  Tedit1.popupmenu := tpopupmenu1;

And set tpopupmenu1.menu.font with what you want.
By default if you do not add menu-items in that tpopupmenu1, only the default
items "Copy/Paste/Cut" items will be showed.

It is also the case for tmainmenu widget.
The font of a form is and the font of a menu is so it
is not inherited.
I did try with a older release from Martin and the behaviour is the same.

Imho, a custom method to set the font of menu + popup when the main form font
has changed is the most easy.

Hum, indeed...

You may create a method for tpopupmenu1.onupdate() with something like this:

procedure tmainfo.onupdatepopup(const sender: tcustommenu);
begin
tpopupmenu1.menu.font.name := font.name;
tpopupmenu1.menu.font.height := font.height;
end;

But yes, it is a workaround.
I will see (asap) is there is something to do but I fear it will not be very
easy because font of form is not equal as font of popup ( "twidgetfont" vs
"tmenufont").

Other thing.

Long time ago I asked how to do a rounded button (rounded frame) and a hero
showed me how to do.
Was it you ?

That person also did a tab of a tabwidget with a close button (to close the
page).
I will be very happy to know how to do this "Tab + Close" tab.

But maybe it was not you, so sorry for the noise.

Thanks.

No problem with this.

But I HAVE to make an amendment to my previous version of the "POtoMO"
unit. It did - unwarrantedly - assume to be fed correctly formatted
and syntactically correct .po files. Sadly, this does not apply to
the files provided e.g. for your ideU. ALL of these contain errors,
although these are mostly just duplicates. Unfortunatly, these DO
provoke erroneous assignments of translated items, making the
translation unusable. The new version provides an appropriate error
message and ignores the duplicates to produces useable .mo files.

BTW, I realized that the "latest" ideU version (that I have, 2.8.2)
still uses the old german language file that "features" some quite
ridiculous translations. You can get a new one from my web space
under "ideU_lang.zip.", along with the newly converted .mo files

BTW 2nd: The file "ideU_languages.jpg" there shows the interesting
effekt of dialogs sometimes "falling off the screen" (even a quite
roomy screen, mine is 1920x1200). I can illustreate that now for you:
I've made a screen shot when I had called up the "language settings"
dialog, and it appeared, just barely recognizable, at the right
bottom screen corner. This seems to happen mostly after several calls
to, also different, dialogs. At some point, they begin to show up on
random spots on the screen, sometimes even partially off screen.

Hallo Fred van Stappen,

as I've just had a bit of spare time, I played around some with the
"dynpo" translation / localization approach. As a result, you can
find new versions of the two files "msegui-lib_dynpo.zip" and
"msegui_dynpo-mod.zip" on my web site.

The first one contains a modified version of the unit file
"lib/common/lang_consts/msestockobjects.pas", providing a couple
compatibility functions, allowing to getting rid of all but one
occurrence of "{$ifdef mse_dynpo}" conditionals. The one required
still is in "widgets/msegrids.pas", and that's needed only because
with "dynpo" there are no "textgenerator" functions.

Being at it, I did some more tinkering with the translation functions,
trying to provide a general method for all "stock" items, and to allow
for application specific additions. For testing it, I shamelessly
missused your (old?) podemo (the version I downloaded last, from
Jan. 27, and modified it to use a new unit I called "po4stock.pas".
That's what the file "msegui_dynpo-mod.zip" contains. It is still
"work in progress", so it might not do everything correctly in all
applications you might try it with. I'd like to make your ideU work
that way, but that's "a bit" more work, so I've not done it yet.

Yes, and sorry, I DON'T have any new information in respect to the
glyph rendering problem. I'm just hopeing to get at it in parallel,
and possibly can find something toward it.

Anyway, have a nice weekend!

Yes, that's the area I was just researching as well. There's even a
msex11gdi.pas unit in the graphics/ directory, and this is used in
kernel/linux/mseuniintf.pas. Maybe that can provide a starting point,
at least, I hope it's not misleading, after all. There are a couple
weird things in this area, e.g. I found a type declaration, txglyphinfo,
that's nowhere defined and doesn't even show up in fpc's sources nor
in the system includes (header files). (At least if the grep program
is working correctly.)
It seems that there are some loose ends still lying around.

Hum, afaik, those '⑳' and '' are not gliphs but UTF characters (or
gliphs-characters ?).
I understood (maybe I am wrong) that in UTF the length of each character (what
you see) is variable.

For example, in Linux, Arabic, Hebrew, Russian, Greek UTF characters are

But it is not the case for Chineese or for Emodj.

<https://forum.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php/topic,58335.msg435036.html#msg435036>

If pasting those 4 lines in the mseide source-editor or into a mse-memo, only
the 2 first char are correctly rendered.
For '⑳' and '' there is only a black-square.

So msegui seems to be limited to UTF char with length <= 2.

Could it be that the editor's font doesn't have those glyphs implemented?

But it is not the case for Chineese or for Emodj.

Fre;D

If pasting those 4 lines in the mseide source-editor or into a mse-memo, only
the 2 first char are correctly rendered.
For '⑳' and '' there is only a black-square.

So msegui seems to be limited to UTF char with length <= 2.

Could it be that the editor's font doesn't have those glyphs implemented?

Do you have ideas how to do for length > 2, where to look, what to consider,
etc, ... ?

Thanks.

[MSEide-MSEgui-talk] UTF things?

2022-02-23 Thread Fred van Stappen
Hello everybody.

I (try to) understand UTF(8-32) format following that Lazarus topic:
https://forum.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php/topic,58335.msg435036.html#msg435036

There is a example of utf8 characters:

Length('A') = 1
Length('Ö') = 2
Length('⑳') = 3
Length('') = 4

If pasting those 4 lines in the mseide source-editor or into a mse-memo, only

But ok, the comments are for the last commit too.

In last commit of mseide-msegui ( one month ago )
the "dynpo" alternate unit was merged into the original mseconst.pas unit.
So no need to do complicated command line nor copy-paste that unit, only use
the "-dmse_dynpo" parameter.

In last commit /mseide-msegui/tools/potools/ was added your PotoMo and MOdemo
projects.
Many thanks for this.
It was modified to use last commit of msegui and there is now a new unit:
captionmodemo.pas where all the captions of the project are added.

https://github.com/mse-org/mseide-msegui/commit/e135b94f5e

To resume: for internationalization, mseconsts.pas is used for all the captions
of msegui components and captionmodemo.pas for all the other captions of the
program him self.

It would be great if you could check in /mseide-msegui/tools/potools/ your
PotoMo and MOdemo projects ( if all ok with the modifications, here it works
perfectly).

Many thanks for this.
I agree with all your suppositions-suggestions and for the "not understood":

> msgid "Annul"
> msgstr "Abbrechen"

(and others)

Those captions are used by msegui widgetset.

> msgid "Universal path layout"
> msgstr "Universelles Pfad-Layout"
> I could not yet find out what this actually means

Martin invented a "Universal path layout" (how to call this?), that is based on
the Unix way.
So in Windows normally you use for example "C:\adirectory\aotherdirectory\" but
with msegui and mseide, by default, you will get this:
"/C/adirectory/aotherdirectory/".

It is great but no every Windows user will like it.
It is the reason why, in "Extended Settings" you may choose to use the
"Universal path layout" or the "classic" one.
In ideU, by default, it is the "classic" layout that is used.

I will do a new release of ideU with all your notes.

About mseide-msegui maybe it will be time also to do a new release because lot
of change were done since last release.

Hello Sieghard.

It will be great to have a "automatic" caption-to-constant converter.
Maybe you could take a look at /mseide-msegui/tools/i18n/resourceparser.pas

Two years ago I jumped into the mse-i18n project.
Like you explained it works like a "kaliédoscope" producing a library for each
language (or face).
It is very good but, imho, has too much unneeded features if only
internationalization is the goal.
Also it uses the "mseconst_xy.pas" way and needs so to compile the language
unit to create the lang-library.
And no po file link was developed.

But there are lot of interesting code for parsing resource.

At the moment, for a other project with lot of captions, I use extended
features of "potools" converter.

It extracts, from a msegui form.mfm file, the caption of each component of the
form and shows in a memo the code of the enum and array of strings, ready to be
pasted into the program.
It helps "a lot" but sure you have to check for double and menu-items if all
was ok.

But this is a few "bricolage" and your solution is much better (my way needs
lot of energy and time).

I dont forget your previous post and will find time to jump into it asap.

If you want to try it, you need the plugins given in release version of ideU

And paste the new ideu binary and /lang + /layout directories into the

To load the assistive plugin, click on the first icon (the lips) in

I hope there are some readers here who can do that, as I don't speak

Well, no, they do not provide "all needed", they only give some kind of
template for constructing other translation units of this kind.
And I do not really like the wayit has to be done now, I think there
must be aa more generalized method for accessing all that stuff for
translation. Delphi (and thus, Lazarus) provide a program wide list
structure containing all (graphical) objects, which would make for an
anchor for such an action, but I've not (yet?) found an equivalent
structure in msegui. If there shouln't be one, that might complicate
the task quite a bit.

THe problem just "might be" that this could not be possible on Linux.
If your ideU is installed by root for general access, NO user can
create this "lang" directory, becaus it would have to be subdirectory
to a root-owned "bin/" directory. A normal user cannot even create new
file in the "stanndard" (/usr/share/locale/) hierarchy, because this
owned by root either. If root has created the pertinent language files
there, any user can _access_ them, though.
If ideU was installed by a regular user for his own provate use, then,
of course, he can (let it) put the translation files into such a newly
created subdirectory, although this might mess up the file structure.of
his "home" hierarchy. So it's probabely really best to let the user
decide himself. And that may even apply to windows, because, as far as
I got it, current Windows versions also don't allow a user to put files
into the regular program hierarchy. AFAIK they even "transparently"
reroute access there to some "private" place in the user's "home",
where it would not be accessible to anyone else. Interesting times, no?
So you probabely found the optimal solution.

BTW, I edited your latest german language file for your ideU and
converted them all to .mo format. As I was unclear about a few of the
wordings, I put those, along with so

If you have installed the release of ideU, just compile the source and
paste+replace binary of ideU + directory /lang and /layout into the directory
of release ideU and run that new binary.
Or if you run the binary from /ideU/src/ check in menu-settings that /lang and

Ok, asap, there will be a option to make the dialog appear under the mouse

original mseconsts.pas, so no more double unit.
The same for msestockobjects_dynpo.pas who is merged into original
msestockobjects.pas.

Also in ideU, all the captions-consts are independent of msegui source, no need
to copy-paste files from msegui source and customize it.

But all this need a commit and then you will need to re-download the source
from mseide-msegui and ideU too.
And it is **highly** possible that future commits will come, so difficult to
predict when all is ok.

> One modification I can provide is a _PRELIMINARILY_ modified language

It will be highly appreciated, the po files should not be affected by the last
commits and still usable.

Ho yes, your advices are so precious.
The most easy is with GitHub issue but, yes, you dont like it.
So for me it is ok here (but maybe it will annoy people).

The problem is that now all that forum-sites ask for registration and, like
you, I am not fan of that.

Hello Sieghard!

Wow many thanks for all that infos.

The problem was this: for each mse widget the caption/hint are dependent of
/msegui/lib/kernel/mseconsts.pas and msesockobjects.pas.

I would like that the compiler choose the customed units from my application in
a other directory.
With all the attemps that I did it always ended using the files from
/msegui/lib/kernel/ and not mine.

The only way I found is to copy those files into the same directory as the
project.

But sure that after studying your post I will find a solution.

By the way, with last commit in mseide-msegui, there is no need to copy the
files, all is managed with the "-mse_dynpo" parameter.

Why should this be a problem? Do you keep all (or just some) units
in /usr/bin or wherever on the path your fpc resides? Or do you copy
or link the compiler into your working directory?
Isn't the common way to keep executables on Unixens to put them into
a directory on the path, and put their working data somewhere else,
to not intermix or interfere with each other? (For Windows, I don't
know.)

Yes, 2. should not be there, neither on Linux NOR on Windows or
whatever.

This DOES give that freedom - I DID try it yesterday, prepended a
specific directory to the search path by specifying it on the compiler
command line, and it DID work as expected & intended.
Prepending a path to the compiler command line isn't a real chore using
the project options settings of either mseide or your ideU, I think.
It's not even difficult using a simple script, as I did.
The script reads as follows (I named it "make", to be called as
"./make [-]"):

It can be, at first loading of ideU, there was a error message when closing the
setting window.
I was due with problem with the splash screen.
The splash screen is removed now.

Also for the default language set, indeed sometimes it was not done, it should
be fixed now.
You will need last trunk of mseide-msegui source to compile it.

About Github, I understand that you do not want to be member (needed to commit
or push things).

So the easier thing is to download the last trunk source via this link:
https://github.com/fredvs/ideU/archive/refs/heads/main.zip

In case of previous link did not work, maybe try this:
Trunk ideU

This link is automatically updated after each commit and you will get always
last trunk.

The same for mseide-msegui:
https://github.com/mse-org/mseide-msegui/archive/refs/heads/main.zip

In case of previous link did not work, maybe try this:
Trunk

But this is not important, I will continue with the "paste in same directory as

... and I suspect this to be the cause. It might be the cause, because
there are a few dialog source files that you modified, so there's a
mixture of "original" (modified by me already) and "old style" files
that are no longer compatible. I'll have to resolve this, well, mess
first to get a clean compile. Only then I'll be able to assess it any
further and be able to continue (or restart?) working on the
translation.

Sorry, I didn't need to do that yet.

> I did try with the fpc "directory parameter" -Futhedirectory but it

The only thing I could think of here is that your sequencing attempts
did collide with the many predefined assignments in fpc's configuration
file (/etc/fpc.cfg). Other than that, mainly two strategies could be
used: accessing the directories in sequence, using files from the first
one encountered (most likely), or using the ones from the last one
(less probable). This could be complicated a lot, though, by the
sequence of unit names in the "uses" clause.

But fpc's documentation file "user.pdf" describes the construction of a
"unit search path", a really convolved construct consisting of parts
specified / specifiable in different places.
The following remark might be important:
"Note that unit file paths specified in a config file will be added at the
end, while paths specified on the command-line are added at the
 beginning."

So it depends on _where_ additional paths are added; if you do it on
the command line (what you probabely do), they are _pre_pended to the
full path list, and so may take precedence. There's a compiler switch,
"-vu", that's meant to show you the resulting search path.

They also give an example of how this should work:
"For instance, suppose that the file foo.pp needs the unit bar. Then the
 command fpc -Fu.. -Fuunits foo.pp
will tell the compiler to look for the unit bar in the following
places:
   1. In the current directory.
   2. In the directory where the compiler binary is (not under LINUX).
   3. In the parent directory of the current directory.
   4. In the subdirectory units of the current directory
   5. In the standard unit directory."

But I just found this interesting phrase in fpc's documentation, too:
"The compiler will look for compiled versions or source versions of all
units in the uses clause in the unit search path. If the unit filename
was explicitly mentioned using the in keyword, the source is taken from
 the filename specified:"

This should give you the opportunity to exactly specify not just the
(even relative) path, but also the file a unit's source resides in. The
syntax is given as: "uses unita in ’..\unita.pp’;" (or as appropriate).

Can this help?

I did already download it, and will have a look at it - after all, I'd
like to use the mechanism myself as well, but I didn't find the time to
even build the demo yet. As always, as soon as time allows...

Re-hello Sieghard.

About search sequence:

   1. In the current directory.
   2. In the directory where the compiler binary is (not under LINUX). // That

   3. In the parent directory of the current directory.
   4. In the subdirectory units of the current directory

Imho, the 2. should not be there but at last, after all sequences.

Re-imho it would give much more freedom to organize a project and not be
obliged to paste the units that should be loaded first into the root current
directory.

So, ok, so it seems that the easier solution is to paste the units in root
current directory.
OK, let it do like this.

Many thanks for the details.
