[JAWS-Users] jfw12 focus problem

2011-02-09 Thread Fanus
Hi Listers
I encounter a focus problem with jfw12. When in i long list,
for example files in a directory, and I downarrow then jaws
jumps to other items in the list instead of staying on the
alphabetic list. I think it might have to do with the screen
resolution but if I make that lower jaws behaves better but
then sighted people can not see all the items. In display
properties it is set to classic theme. I tried the XP theme
but that does not solve the problem. Even when I switch the
view from list to detail it does not help.
I use XP Home.
Can someone please help.

Fanus

[JAWS-Users] on mouse over on a web page

2011-02-09 Thread Fanus
Hi listers
Can one activate an on mouse over item on a web page and
if so, how, or is that only some sort of a heading?
On my bank's site there is such an item for beneficiaries
which I suspect one can activate to get options to add,
change etc. but I cannot activate it.

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] on mouse over on a web page

Found this and hope it helps:
Mouse Over Effects
HTML allows the author of a page to set an OnMouseOver
attribute for most
HTML elements to run specified code such as JavaScript or
Visual Basic
Script when the mouse pointer is moved over the HTML
element. Often this is
used to momentarily display text, graphics, or links. JAWS
now recognizes
the OnMouseOver attribute, and if it is set to display text
or links as part
of the page, JAWS provides access to that information. Press
INSERT+CTRL+ENTER to simulate moving the mouse pointer over
the element at
the Virtual Cursor location. If the mouse over event caused
some part of the
page to change, JAWS announces the line where the change
occurred. To review
the new content, you can press J to perform the Jump To Line
command. Enter
the number of the line that changed and press ENTER to move
directly to that
line. You can press SHIFT+J at any time to return to your
previous location
on the page.
By default, JAWS announces when an HTML element has a mouse
over effect. If
you want JAWS to ignore the OnMouseOver attribute, do the
following:
1.Press INSERT+F2, select Configuration Manager, and
press ENTER.
2.From the Set Options menu, choose Speech and Sounds
Manager.
3.In the Select Scheme list, choose Classic.
4.Press ALT+E to edit this scheme.
5.Press CTRL+TAB until you move to the HTML tab, and
then use the arrow
keys to select onmouseover.
6.Press ALT+I to select the Ignore radio button.

Keep Smiling,

[JAWS-Users] Jaws won't read updated info

2011-02-12 Thread Fanus
Hi Listers
I follow the cricket on cricinfo.com. For each match there
is a line where the score is given, then a blank line and
then a line with info about the batsmen and bowling figures.
Even if I switch jaws to all it does not read the updated
info automatically.
Is there a way when on one match that one can tell jaws to
read the update info on those lines automatically?

You can format a secondary drive using the command under the

It will if in the right place.
Try the control panel, admin tools, computer management.
Look for
devices and it will show you all internal drives, and let
you
partition or format.
That is how I look for drives, because the myComputer and
computer
only give format options no control of drive.

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] CCleaner not reading check boxes

HI Pam;

Below are some steps on using CCleaner that were posted by
Brian Lee a while
back.

Hi Lisa,

Yes, CCleaner works very well with JAWS 9. The program is
set up in a
standard dialog box structure where you can use the tab key
and shift-tab to
move forward and backward through a dialog box. You can
also use Alt key
with the underlined letter of a control to activate it so
that you don't
have to tab to the control and press spacebar or enter. For
example, Alt-R
activates the Run button, which starts the scanning and
removal process
for the page of the dialog box that is active, which is the
Windows page
when you first start the program. When you first use the
program and press
Alt-R a child dialog box will appear with the OK button in
focus. If you
use the tab key you can move to a checkbox for telling the
program not to
show this confirmation box, and check it by pressing
spacebar. After
checking the box tab to the OK button and press spacebar.
JAWS will
announce the percentage of completion as the program scans
and removes
items, but quite often after hearing 100 percent scanning
and removal will
begin for another area of the computer, so you should wait a
few seconds
after hearing JAWS say 100 percent to see if it starts
announcing percentage
progress again. If you route the JAWS cursor to the PC
cursor, do a page
up, and use down arrow to the line under where the Windows
tab and
applications tab are shown, you will hear whether or not
cleaning is
complete. This might vary a little on different systems,
but the scanning
complete notice should be given on a line not far under the
page tabs.

After you have made PC cursor active again you can use tab
or shift tab to
move to where JAWS says Windows tab and use right arrow to
move to the
Applications page tab. Use Alt-R again to run the program
in this page.

Before running the program you probably want to set the
program to only
remove the types of items you want removed. After opening
the program and
before invoking the run button, use Shift-tab to move to
the tree view of
choices. If you use the shift-tab then you will find the
tree view of
choices after you hear the page tabs announced. Use down
arrow in the tree
view and check or uncheck items using the spacebar. For
example, if you
don't want all cookies removed then be sure to uncheck the
cookies choice.
You can always remove tracking cookies with a different
program such as
Super Anti-
Spyware or Ad-Aware. Keep using down arrow through the
choices in the tree
view and use spacebar to check or uncheck items. the
checkmark means that
those types of items will be removed, if not checked then
those items will
be left alone. I think you can feel pretty comfortable with
the default
settings, although if you don't want the recycle bin emptied
then you might
uncheck that item, or if you don't want auto complete form
history deleted
then you can uncheck that box, etc. The only one I have
unchecked in the
Internet Explorer list of items is the cookies choice, as I
only want
tracking cookies removed.

If you use tab key to move to the page tabs and right arrow
to the
applications tab, you can then use shift-tab to move back
to the tree view
and find a list of programs that have cached temporary files
that you can
remove. If you want to uncheck any of these choices then
use down arrow and
uncheck the box, but I think that you probably will just
want to leave the
default settings.

After you have set your choices they will remain as set for
subsequent times
when you use the program. Each time you run the program you
will only need
to use the run command by pressing Alt-R for the Windows
page of the dialog
and then move to the applications page and perform the run
command with
Alt-R.

Take care and have a great day!
Brian Lee

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] C cleaner.
Hello Sue,
I recommend that you run the program manually because there
are two page
tabs in the program. If you run it automatically with the
/auto switch, I
think that you will only be cleaning items in the Windows
page of the
program. There is an applications page in the program
where cached items
from other programs are cleaned, which should be done after
cleaning the
items under the Windows page. If you want to close the
program when
cleaning is finished you can go into advanced settings by
pressing Alt-O for
options and then using tab key to move to the advanced
button. After
pressing spacebar on the advanced button you can tab to a
checkbox for
closing program when cleaning is complete and use spacebar
to check the box
or to remove the check mark

Hello Rick
Thanks for the instructions. Just one observation: jaws is
supposed to be installed without sighted assistance but the
last few times I needed sighted assistance because at the

there is no way to get to the stage where jaws is speaking
without sighted assistance. I find this a bit unfortunate of
software for the blind.

Here's what I do to get to the volume CTRL in windows 7.
 1. click on computer
 2. click on local disc: (c)
 3. Click on windows (press w until you hear windows)
 4. Now press the letter s or s y s t e m until you get to
 system 32 and
 press enter
 5. Now type SND until you get to sndvol.exe and press
 enter to look at the
 volume mixer.
If you do not want to take that long route, once you are
 on the sndvol.exe
option, you can bring up the context menu and send it to
 the desktop (or
where ever you prefer), pin it to the taskbar, start menue
 etc for quicker
 access.
I renamed the sndvol.exe to volume CTRL and just placed it
 on my desktop,
 so
I wouldn't have to take the seenick route.
I hope this is what you were looking for, if not,
 hopefully someone will
bennefit from what I just wrote.:)
 Have a good day.

 Hi Fanus,
In Windows 7, open the start menu, and type the word
 volume in the search
 box
you should get a list of results which you can down arrow
 thru.
These results will vary from computer to computer, but try
 looking for
 adjust system volume.

[JAWS-Users] jaws, win7 and memory stick

2011-03-23 Thread Fanus
Hello listers
I am new to windows 7 but now I encounter a strange problem.
When I insert my memory stick windows7 picks it up but I
have only access to the folders on the stick and not to any
files which is on the stick but not in a folder. In other
words, win7 only sees the 16 folders but not the other
files.
Is there a setting which I must change to rectify this or is
this a jaws12 problem?

That would be a problem with the stick or the privileges for
that stick.

[JAWS-Users] Strange activation problem

2011-05-04 Thread Fanus
Hello Listers
A while ago I upgraded to Windows 7 and Jaws Pro. Everything
worked well but I encountered problems with my soundcard and
eventually I found a Win7 driver. I don't know what I did
but now Jaws comes up in demo mode with a message that I
must activate it. I am afraid to activate it again because I
do not want to lose an install count. Has anyone encountered
this and is it safe to activate again?

Hi Riana
Thanks. Perhaps Sensory will come with a solution. By the
way, I used to visit a website where I could download the
statutes in .PDF format. Now that I upgraded to Win7 I lost

Hi Fanus,

I haven't had hassles with a soundcard, but have also
upgraded to
windows 7, mine is home premium, using jaws 12 and since
last week I
also sometimes get this activation message.

Upon rebooting the notebook, it has every time reverted back
to normal,
although it has happened about three times now.

Sensory solutions, the jaws supporters in SA, now knows
about it, but
don't have an explanation.

Of course, I'm also using an authorised version

Riana

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws upgrade plan structure

2014-01-18 Thread Fanus
Hello list
Ok, let me explain as briefly as possible and I think an
example would best give the facts and please, my problem is
not the amounts but the policy itself and also remember the
amounts may not be quite correct in terms of the dollar
price which I quote because I converted the amounts from our
currency back to dollars.
When I wanted to upgrade from JFW13 to JFW14 I was told that
the upgrade would cost $150 but should I take one SMA the
price would be $260. There was thus an incentive to rather
take an SMA which would then allow to have JFW15 as well.
This was my experience for many years.
I decided to take the upgrade to JFW14 but not the SMA.
In November 2013 when I asked for a quote to upgrade from
JFW14 to JFW15 I was told that the upgrade policy changed
and now I have to pay $250 for upgrading from JFW14 to JFW15
and should I take one SMA it would be $280 for JFW15 plus
the SMA which would enable me to get JFW16 as well.
My point is therefore that it is not an incentive anymore to
take a SMA but one is sort of forced to do so because from a
financial point it is not worth while to just buy JFW15.
The problem is that in the past fairly poor people could
afford to pay $150 for one upgrade but not $260 once off.
Now it becomes almost impossible to upgrade due to the high
price of one upgrade.
I trust that you get my point and that is why I asked for an
email address to discuss this with FS.

Re: [JAWS-Users] SMA

2014-01-26 Thread Fanus
Hello Mellissa and list
While on the topic of SMA. Can someone from FS who is a
member of the list perhaps explain the SMA structure. After
a little investigation it seems that the SMA policy is
applied differently in different countries, so does the
dealer have a choice how he applies the policy. For example:
in my country I wanted to upgrade from JFW v14 to v15 and
the quote which I got had a further option to take one SMA
which would entitle me to JFW V16. A friend in the US made a
similar enquiry there and was told that one can not upgrade
from v14 to v15 and take just one SMA but that one must
purchase V15 and then pay for 2 SMA's (V16 and V17).
I hope someone can clear things up.

[JAWS-Users] Jaws not speaking when arrow keys are pressed

2014-01-31 Thread Fanus
Hello list
A friend asked me to put this problem to the list. On the
desktop the arrow keys react normally but the moment he goes
into my computer or in a MSWord document jaws does not
speak when any of the arrow keys are pressed. We checked
that highlighted is selected with jaws key plus S. Can
someone please help?

When jaws tandem was introduced I recall that the idea was

I've done a lot of tandem sessions myself. Most of them good
but also I've
experienced pretty much every possible glitch there is to
encounter. All in
all though it is still the best feature to come across my
desk since the
invention of the talking calculator, or for that matter
scream readers.

The thing is it made the possible faster since I don't have
to walk folks
step by step to accomplish something. It also made the
impossible possible
because some things I won't walk people step by step as they
are far too
touchy.

The down side is that it gave me more work to do and less
free time.

[JAWS-Users] JFW 15 does not open edit field automatically

2014-06-04 Thread Fanus
Hello list
On my Windows 7 PC I notice that JFW15 does not open edit fields when browsing
the internet. For example, when I browse the Google main page and I downarrow

old days of jaws to open the edit field. Is this a jaws15 problem or does this
happen because I still use internet explorer 8?

Hello Colin
Thanks for your willingness to help. I figured out quite a bit. The only
thing that I can not manage is to let total recorder not record my jaws
keystrokes i.e. I recorded a stream from the internet but my jaws keystrokes
could be heard when I played the recording. Is there a way to avoid this. I
am also using total recorder pro.

Hi Jim, Fanus and others:

To answer your Total Recorder recording settings queries:

During installation, the default setting should keep the Jaws voice and
key

strokes out of the standard recording. However, have a look in:

File/Options/ Recording Source and Parameters.../
Check out all the options in there, especially under Advanced where
you can option all different recording conditions including Sound Cards,
internet streaming, what you hear etc.
However, I normally have to change the Jaws cursor to route Jaws to PC
to read or make changes in this area.

I mainly record using Spin it Again, then edit using Total Recorder
Professional, which I have enjoyed as one of the best audio editing
programs
I have used. I do all editing as .wav then change back to mp3 etc later
on,

prior to burning to CD.

[JAWS-Users] MSWord 2007 not showing all files, is it a JFW problem

2014-07-14 Thread Fanus
Hello list
I have a .doc file in the root of my hard drive. When I use the open command in
MSWord 2007 and I select MSWord 2003 as the type and then navigate to the
treeview of files it shows all the folders but just a few .zip files. This also
happens when I try to open a .txt file. It also happens when I select another
drive or even a memory stick.
I don't know if it is a JFW problem, so if it is not, please forgive that I
asked this on the jaws list.

Hi Fanus and List:

To answer your query:

I purchased TR and Spin it Again well over 3 years ago, so I don't know
the

current cost of these programs, but I am sure you will find that out on
their respective Web sites. I don't remember Spin it Again being very
expensive. I initially downloaded and installed it as a free and fully
featured trial (complete with annoying repeated background clicks and
other

noises until the purchase (hence registration) was made!) when all those
noises were magically removed (lol)!!!
I found that Jaws was able to easily access almost all parts of this
program, except I found that the Preset Noise/Click suppression etc
settings

areas were a little confusing for Jaws.
However, I now use it as my sole recording program, as it has a wonderful
Recording Wizard that will talk you through setting up recording levels
etc (and all other menus).
I use Spin it Again to not only do all of my initial audio recordings, but
it will also offer to chop the resultant large file into separate tracks.
However, I don't do that until after editing with Total Recorder.

As I mentioned previously, I found the Spin it Again Noise/Click etc
settings area confusing for Jaws, so consequently I only do straight audio
recording with no Noise filters used at all.

However, this is where Total Recorder Professional comes in:
It has an excellent Audio Restoration and Click and Noise Suppression
Add
On, available as an optional extra from theTR site. This is absolutely
well

worth it, as it is easily accessible with Jaws.
The Add ons will write themselves into the main menu areas, very handy.
I therefore do all of my Audio Restoration, Noise and Click Suppression
easily by using Total Recorder Professional.

In Summary:

1. Record with Spin it Again to produce an unedited and unfiltered wave
file.
2. Using Total Recorder Professional, use this to do all general editing
and

Audio Restoration, Click/Noise/Hiss etc editing as one file to minimise
time, then process this file back through the File Access area in Spin it
Again to chop and convert this larger file into separate audio tracks.(TR
will also do this, but I find Spin it Again excellent to do this).
3. If required, burn to a CD. (I prefer Express Burn to do this).
4. All my experiences and preferences of these three programs are purely
based on their respective best accessibility for Jaws, obviously all
excellent with Jaws.

I hope this is helpful.
I am also a musician (Technics Organ and Keyboard) so these 3 programs are
brilliant for my hobby.

Regards,

Colin

Fanus,

JAWS 14 will run on PC's or Tablets that run full Windows 8
(not the RT version). The touch support for the tablets is
not in JAWS 14 however so if you are getting a tablet with
Windows 8 today, you will need to have a keyboard and/or a
Braille Display like the Focus Blue to drive the tablet.
JAWS 15 will add newer functionality to work with these
which I'll be showing more of at the summer conventions in
July and it will be in public beta around the end of August.

[JAWS-Users] JAWS what a shame

2013-06-09 Thread Fanus
Hello list
Over the past 15 years I spent in access of $2500 for the
original JAWS 3.3 and all the upgrades up to the current
version 14. Today I tried to instal Office 2013 on my
windows 7 laptop as well as on a windows 8 tablet. I could
only go through the install process up to a certain stage
from where JAWS could not reag the prompts and the JAWS
cursor only says blank, blank. I then installed the free
NVDA and it could read the prompts and the entire screen and
I could complete the setup on both devices.
What a shame for a company claiming they have the best
screen reader!!!

 David,
Actually you can, a mobile jaws thumb drive that FS has on
 their website.
Almost 2 years ago I was going to create one.
There is a couple files you have to down load and two
 thumb drive are
 required.
One thumb drive with the certification number and the
 other has the files
you will have to copy to the PC, but a iPod has a USB
 thumb drive port
 that
 can be used.

Grant from FS was going to help me, if I needed help with
 it.
I downloaded all the files minus one file and bought two
 new thumb drives
 I
thought it was the greatest thing having a mobile jaws
 thumb drive in your
 pocket..
I change my mind because you will still need a person with
 vision to help
you install and start the application on a unknown pc
 every time you use
 it.
I rather just carry my laptop, if I'm going to need help
 from a person who
 has vision.
Look it up in the FS website.

Hi Rich!

Internet Download Manager (IDM) is an easy to use tool to
increase
download speeds by up to 500 percent, resume and schedule
downloads.
According to the opinions of IDM users Internet Download
Manager is a
perfect accelerator program to download your favorite
software, games,
cd, dvd and mp3 music, movies, shareware and freeware
programs much faster!

Internet Download Manager has a built-in download logic
accelerator that
features intelligent dynamic file segmentation and safe
multipart
downloading technology to accelerate your downloads. Unlike
other
download accelerators and managers that segment files before
downloading
starts, Internet Download Manager segments downloaded files
dynamically
during download process. Internet Download Manager also
reuses available
connections without additional connect and login stages to
achieve
better acceleration performance.

Comprehensive error recovery and resume capability will also
restart
broken or interrupted downloads due to lost connections,
network
problems, computer shutdowns, or unexpected power outages.
Simple
graphic user interface makes IDM user friendly and easy to
use.

Internet Download Manager has wide customization
capabilities,
downloadable skins, visual XP styles, multilingual
interface, and
supports proxy servers, FTP, HTTP and HTTPS protocols,
firewalls, file
redirects, cookies, directories with authorization, ZIP
preview,
categories, MP3 audio and MPEG video content processing and
a large
number of server platforms. IDM integrates seamlessly into
Microsoft
Internet Explorer, Netscape, AOL, MSN Explorer, Opera, and
Mozilla
browsers to automatically handle your downloads. You can
also drag and
drop files or use Internet Download Manager from command
line. Internet
Download Manager can dial your modem at the set time,
download the files
you want, then hang up or even shut down your computer when
it's done.

The site grabber feature of Internet Download Manager not
only lets you
download required files that are specified with filters, for
example all
pictures from a web site, or all audio files from a web
site, but it
also lets you download subsets of web sites, or complete web
sites for
mirroring or offline browsing. It's possible to schedule
multiple
grabber projects to run them once at a specified time, stop
them at a
specified time, or run periodically to synchronize changes.

Actually, A Jaws-script has written for IDM but I think It's
not necessary.

For more information and download IDM You can visit
www.internetdownloadmanager.com.

Good luck!

[JAWS-Users] Banking site display problem

2012-10-25 Thread Fanus
Hello List
Although this might be a problem with the south african bank
site of Nedbank, I hope someone can suggest a solution.
In JAWS 13 and earlier my online bank statement was
displayed in such a way that each transaction occupied 3
rows. The first row contained the date, the second row the
transaction info like cheque number and the amount and the
third row the balance.
Now with JAWS 14 Jaws reads the info in one long line and
even subsequent transactions continue on the same line i.e.
if there are five transactions all appear in one long line
without spaces between the various items.
This makes it very difficult to read.
I did report this to FS but I suppose they find it difficult
to replicate if it is perhaps just a SA bank problem
Has anyone tried their bank accounts in other countries?

I am now in the position to record a tutorial demonstrating
how you can
record your voice and your screen reader of choice
 presumably JAWS in this

So those of you who have expressed an interest in finding

I just upgraded this lap top which I have done many of my

Okay, listers, this is the one you've all been waiting for.
In FSCast 58, Jonathan Mosen discusses the new features of
JAWS 13 with Eric Damery and Dan Clark. The public beta is
scheduled for release during the second week of September,
so it should be out shortly. Very interesting.

[JAWS-Users] size of omnipage file with jaws 13

2011-09-16 Thread Fanus
Hi Listers
Does anyone know what the size of the omnipage file is that
gets downloaded when installing jaws 13. I am asking this
because I have a download cap and if I exceed it it becomes
quite expensive. If one therefore wants to install jaws 13
on a PC and a laptop it can become a problem. It would have
been nice if one could download the omnipage file separately
(just as the j13 file) and run it on various platforms
according to the number of activations that one has.

I have tried FoxIt and Sumatra. Both are small, fast PDF
readers, that can
run rings around Adobe Reader. Unfortunately, neither works
with Jaws or
NVDA. With FoxIt, all of the menus are very accessible,
just not the PDF
content. I have tried contacting FoxIt Software, in an
attempt to have them
consider tweaking the FoxIt Reader to work with screen

Maybe if others do the same, they will listen.

Use notepad to create the file and call it:

autorun.inf

the code you need to put inside of it is as follows:

[autorun]
open=filename.exe

Obviously change filename.exe to the file in question you
wish to auto run.

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Latest Abbyy FineReader and jaws

I have been using Finereader since its version 3.0 at about
the time
I lost my sight. The interface has changed several times
over the
years. FR has always been accessible and usable by the
blind, much
more so than, say, Omnipgage. Over here in Europe, it is
_the_ocr
program used by the blind and, when the client is eligible,
often
included in a reading solution package financed by the
health
insurance or other organization.

I have only had a go at a demo of FR 11 as we usually get FR
at a
much reduced price when the next version is released.
however, FR 11
is certainly usable and its recognition is, as always, very
very good.

FR's interface underwent a major change between its version
8 and 9.
It is still accessible and still usable but just quite
different.
Whether you will be comfortable with it or not, depends
largely on
how you use FR and what you do or do not consider accessible
and what
your needs are. FR's reconition has always been amazingly
accurate and it has recongized just about anything I've
slapped on
my scanner including poor quality print paperbooks yellow
with age,
typewriter pages or even mimeographed publications of a few
decades
ago. FR never failed me and never took even a fraction of
the time I
spent with some ocr packages specifically for the blind that
I worked
with. When the fine engine of a particular FR version was
used with
OB or K1K, I always found without fail that recognition in
FR itself
with the same version of its fine engine was better and much
more painless.

The setup I have yere is that I scan my books and everyday
correspondence, forms, or documents my husband and I need
electronic
copies of wiht FR 7, which I still prefer for its interface
and ease
of use (due to my being very very familiar with it and my
preference
for working in FR's internal editor.) If I need to recognize
a pdf
document, maybe even a bilingual one, or a poor quality
document, i
use FR 10 on it because its reconition accuracy has improved
dramatically since its version 7 or 8. Even on some of the
bilingual
texts that I ran thru fr 10, the accuracy was amazing even
though I
had just hset it to automatic language reconition.

If you are a longtime user of Finerader, you know that you
can
download a free demo copy of it from Abbyy's homepage. I
would
defiinitley advise you to do this. Also, you can keep your
trusted
old FR 8 on the same system as they install to different
folders.
You just need to keep the batches each saves separately as
FR's
batches are not backward compatible.

Finally, depending on what country you live in, you might be
able to
get the previous version of FR at a much much reduced price.
I do not
quite remember the price of the latest version of FR at the
time. I
think it may be around 200 Euros, which is roughly about
US$300. The
previous version may be availablefor as little as 1/4 of the
price of
the current version or even a little less. Unless you
specifically
need a feature that comes with the latest version, you are
probalby
going to be just fine with the previous one, especially in
light of
the fact that the latest version of k1k or ob usually use
the fine
engine of the previous version of the current retail
version of fr itself.

I hope this was a little helpful and that you will find the
version
of FR that works best for you and is the right size for your
wallet.
And if FR 8 does all you need it to do - and it might well
do that -
just remember if it ain't broke ... *g*

hth

Doris

Hi Fanus and all members,
I forgot to mention this in my last message, but everyone should be aware,
Windows Mail and Outlook Express in Windows 7
are more than likely not supported by any version of Jaws
This is because neither of these e-mail clients are supported by Microsoft
in Windows 7 or higher.
So, any problems in that regard with Jaws 16 beta, should probably not go
on

the beta report form.
If I am mistaken, I hope that Eric will let us know.

Hi Fanus,
I do not use Avast, so I can't really comment on that part of your
question,

only to say that if you disable it to install Jaws, make sure that you
disable your Internet connection first, and re-enable it before
re-connecting to the Internet after installation.
I would think that you would get a security window from Avast to allow the
installation, if that is what's blocking it.
Have you tried re-booting the computer?

I hope this is on topic. When installing jfw16 beta avast detects some
melicious files which I know can not be true. Is there a way to temporary
suspend avast to get the beta installed?

[JAWS-Users] outlook makes messag box read only

2015-05-13 Thread Fanus
Hello list
I do not know if this is a jfw problemk so forgive if it is not. A friend has
jfw 12 and win 7 and outlook 2007 on his pc. All of a sudden when he wants to
compose a new message he can type in the to field and in the subject field
but when he tries to type the body of the message jfw says read only. Also,
when he wants to read an email and he uses the arrow keys he just hears blank,
blank If he presses jaws key-b the screen is read. We looked all over in
the outlook settings but I can not find any setting whhich would correct these
behaviours. I do not use outlook, so I can't think of a solution. We even
checked the screen resolution but it seems to be ok. Can anyone suggest a
solution?

[JAWS-Users] windows 10 email client and jaws

2015-07-05 Thread Fanus
Hello list
Does windows 10 have a built-in email client and if so, is it accessible with
jaws16? The reason I am asking is that I currently use windows 8.1 but as email
client I use the adapted outlook express. I am thinking of purchasing the
outlook package to be able to sync with my iPhone but I do not want to spend
the money if windows 10 has a similar email client built in.

[JAWS-Users] Internet explorer 10 does not open links

2015-09-01 Thread Fanus
Hello list
I do not know if this is a jaws problem. I have the latest version of jaws on a
windows 7 PC. All of a sudden I can not activate any links on websites.
Pressing enter does nothing and even if I press jfw key plus f7 and tab to the
activate link button and press enter nothing happens.
Is this a jaws problem or how can I solve this?

Not sure, but try this if using IE. Go to Tools, Advanced Options,
MultiMedia, and unselect Play Sounds in Web Pages. It will require a restart
of IE to take effect. Hope this heps.

Hi All,

I was attempting to read an interview on the Rolling Stone web site,
but almost as soon as I open the site, some really loud and very
annoying vvideo starts playing and I can't figure out how to turn it
off. The problem is the video is so loud that I can't hear jaws to
explore the sctreen or to read the interview. I'm pasting a link to
the interview if you care to see what I'm talking about. Is there a
jaws command that will turn off this noise?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Kimber

Hello David

While I was not sleeping last night it crossed what I call my mind a couple
of ideas for future recordings.

Version 5 could cover creating a batch file that would allow you to create
your backups just by hitting enter on it since all of the presets will be
hard coded. Version 6 could cover modifying it to run from the virtual
environment. That way again all you would need to do is hit enter on it.

Now this is getting up there a bit, but if there is an interest I can sure
record my thoughts. Note: the last might have to be recorded on my Victor
Reader although that is not set in stone. It's just a possibility.

Let me know folks if those are things of interest to anybody out there.

You don't have to be crazy to run a list like this, but it does help.

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws on tablets?

2016-09-08 Thread Fanus
Hello Josh
I use a Lenovo thinkpad 2 tablet and it works quite well with jaws 17, however,
I just installed the jaws 18 beta and it seems that it is more responsive. I am
a bit doubtful whether a tablet with only 2 GB ram wil work without jaws
stuttering. My Lenovo has 4 GB ram but it is also a 32 bit processor and if I
remember correctly the processor speed is 1.8 GHZ. I know of two people with 2
GB ram laptops who have problems with jaws running properly.

[JAWS-Users] JAWS cursor can not read the screen but says blank, blank, blank ...

2017-04-01 Thread Fanus
Hello list
Since upgrading to Windows10 The jaws cursor is not able to read the screen. It
just says blank, blank ... I must admit that it is a PC which I purchased in
2011, so I don’t know if the on-board display card is too old but I hope that
someone has a solution. I tried all the screen resolution options in windows 10
settings but without any luck.
