It looks like you have two LMS servers running? Both on the OpenMediaVault (Debian based NAS) and also an instance under Win10? It is possible but care should be taken to ensure that the players are not confused. If you open the LMS web gui on the OMV-server, what players do you see? The same as on the Win10? A player (JiveLite, SB's, Squeezelite etc) can only be connected to one server at a time. Thanks, a bit clearer: your LMS server runs on the OMV-machine which hosts the music library, your NUC machine (Macos/Win10/Linux) is used as client. The Jivelite player under Macos plays all tracks and do not stop prematurely, but whatever you run under Win10 as player do stop after two tracks. I wonder if LMS gets confused when you reboot the NUC under another OS and start another player there; LMS identifies the players by the MAC-address on the client network card, which should be the same when switch from Macos to Win10. You can look in the prefs directory on the OMV machine how many playlist files you have (the MAC address is part of the file name). A long shot perhaps, but have you tried to proxy streaming through your local LMS? The players from Logitech (SB, Touch, Radio etc) are not updated in their basic OS functions, especially the network stack may be outdated in some cases (e.g. https based streaming is not possible directly from these players). Open the web gui to your local LMS, go to Settings -> Player -> choose player -> choose Audio (or Sound), on the settings page choose "Proxied streaming" from the drop-down box next to last. (I have a swedish language LMS so I have to guess the correct wording in english.) Don't forget to switch your player to use the local LMS first and ensure that the player is recognized by LMS: see Settings -> Information. 2 Touch, 1 Picoreplayer 4.0.0 on RaspBerry 3B with 7" display LMS latest nightly on Ubuntu 18.04.1 on Intel Core2 Duo E4500 @ 2.20GHz, 2GB All wired BosseJ's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=67378 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108502 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

It is possible that the router is blocking internet access for your Vortexbox server since you have statically assigned an IP-address on the server and at the same time made a reservation in the router (to be handed out when the Vortexbox request a DHCP-address, which it doesn't). >From the router perspective the Vortexbox has a duplicate IP_address and hence it is blocked (most routers have protection against duplicate IP-addresses on the network). Even if you could define a gateway statically on the ethernet network, where should it point? You don't have any other routers you wrote and I got the impression that your only internet access is via the mobile hotspot (the mobile phone)? I assume that your PC and laptop have the same general solution as the PI3B+, ie wireless to your mobile (for internet access) and ethernet cable to your powerline backbone for access to your LMS/Jivelite device (the PI3B+). I assume you have manually set IP-addresses on the ethernet side on the PC and laptop also. It makes some sense that you can access the LMS on the PI3B+ from your PC/laptop via 192.168.1.23 (ie via the powerline backbone) since I believe LMS listens on all interfaces. But why it should stop working when you remove the wireless connection is beyond me. And why the local playback from a locally attached USB-drive should stop when the wireless to the phone is disconnected is also incomprehensible to me. Perhaps ssh in to your LMS and monitor the LMS server log (eg 'sudo tail -f /var/log/squeezeboxserver/server.log') and then stop hotspot and see what the LMS has to say about that. Perhaps you should ask on a Raspian 9 forum. It is too difficult to "debug" this without Raspian experience. In addition to reviewing your network you should review how you mount the USB-drive: try to do it manually, as basic as possible to remove any hidden dependencies to network (whatever they may be). How do you add music to the USB-drive? Using Samba (SMB export)? That could be a source for network dependency. As for the network, it is not surprising that it gets confused when you have a key component such as the internet gateway walking around in the house and appearing randomly :-) Try to make all network connections manually and static, even for the wifi on the PI3B+: use dhcp for ip-address only but set the route manually to have it persistent. Do you have NetworkManager active on the Raspian/PI3B+? Disable that and set everything manually. If you can get an extra data SIM from your mobile operator cheap (or for free), the advice to use a 4G router is excellent. That would stop the internet gateway from disappearing and reappearing randomly :-) And your phone could use the same wifi network when at home (no need for a mobile hotspot function). Your PC & laptop would be happy with a permanent gateway. You could keep your powerline backbone only as a fallback for access to LMS. 2 Touch, 1 Picoreplayer 4.0.0 on RaspBerry 3B with 7" display LMS latest nightly on Ubuntu 18.04.1 on Intel Core2 Duo E4500 @ 2.20GHz, 2GB All wired BosseJ's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=67378 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109789 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Perhaps you could ask Ralphy in the JiveLite thread in these forums, https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?98156-Announce-JiveLite-cut-down-squeezebox-control-application if there is any way to force JiveLite to always use the eth0 192.168.1.23 IP as the LMS server and never the wireless IP? Assuming you compiled from the Github sources, Ralphy's fork, and not from Googlecode archive (Triode's original sources). BTW, it seems as JiveLite only communicates with the LMS server and the LMS server then controls the Squeezelite player software. There seems to be no direct connection between JiveLite and Squeezelite. This explains why you only loose control ability on the local display of the PI3B+, but never on the PC/laptop browser to the LMS web gui. LMS listens on all interfaces, if wlan fails it doesn't matter for the eth0 traffic. However, JiveLite chooses one interface for communication with LMS and sticks with that. Besides, JiveLite seem to prefer the wlan, perhaps because that is the only network route which can provide DNS replies. (You could, as a test for this speculation, setup a small DNS server elsewhere on your network just to provide replies, a small footprint caching DNS will be fine. Then start the PI3B+ without the hotspot available and see what gives - check the JiveLite configs for LMS server IP etc.) 2 Touch, 1 Picoreplayer 4.0.0 on RaspBerry 3B with 7" display LMS latest nightly on Ubuntu 18.04.1 on Intel Core2 Duo E4500 @ 2.20GHz, 2GB All wired BosseJ's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=67378 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109789 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Hmm, I always find it hard to follow my advice :-( I am not a windows user (well, some perhaps, but by no means with any administrator skills) so I cannot really recommend a dns caching server for windows with confidence, but I could hint at one that seems to do what's expected for a simple test: http://mayakron.altervista.org/wikibase/show.php?id=AcrylicHome I guess there's a few hours learning curve even for that, but you seem to have skills so maybe it goes faster for you. Other solutions to (temporarily) add a dns server to your backbone LAN would be to install dnsmasq on some *nix based device. Perhaps your NAS (which I think you mentioned earlier)? That would also open up the possibility to run dnsmasq as a combined dns/dhcp server on your backbone which would ease future expansions, such as adding more devices. You could probably also install dnsmasq on your PI3B+, but that would further complicate things I'm afraid (you would need to force dnsmasq to only listen on etho and not lo or wlan0). 2 Touch, 1 Picoreplayer 4.0.0 on RaspBerry 3B with 7" display LMS latest nightly on Ubuntu 18.04.1 on Intel Core2 Duo E4500 @ 2.20GHz, 2GB All wired BosseJ's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=67378 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109789 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

First, LMS does get any IP-address by itself, the OS on the device (the PI3B+) does by dhcp broadcast on the connected interfaces. LMS uses whatever IP-address the OS reports, but LMS is not designed to handle dual networks as far as I know (it can, but may be confused sometimes). When you say that you have both ethernet and wifi connected on the PI3B+, you have dual network interfaces on that machine active at the same time. If you haven't set any static IP-address on either ethernet or wifi on the PI3B+ and you still get IP-addresses when connected, then you have at least two dhcp-servers on you network. And they are probably not the same since they provide IP-addresses from different sub-nets. Or I may have misunderstood your network, of course :-) Some clarifying answers would help I think: 1. Into what kind of device is the other end of the ethernet cable connected? A switch - what other devices are connected to that then? A router - is it the same as the wifi hotspot or something else? 2. What kind of device is the mobile hotspot? Your mobile smartphone? A 3G/4G router? (I am trying to clarify how many internet connections you have and the rough layout of your network.) 3. What application is "My Music" and on what device are you running that? (My Music is a menu item on the web GUI on LMS, is that what you're referring to? Where do you then run the browser to the LMS web GUI?) Also, to clarify your network, please log in to your Pi3B+ using ssh (for example Putty on a Windows PC) from some local computer. In the terminal ssh-window, run command Code: sudo route and show us the result. Next, run command Code: ifconfig , both with and without the ethernet cable attached and show the results. Hopefully it will be a bit clearer and maybe somewhat easier to provide useful advice. 2 Touch, 1 Picoreplayer 4.0.0 on RaspBerry 3B with 7" display LMS latest nightly on Ubuntu 18.04.1 on Intel Core2 Duo E4500 @ 2.20GHz, 2GB All wired BosseJ's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=67378 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109789 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Glad to see you found a solution with reasonable changes! If I may comment on your questions: Code: 1) why can't jivelite deal with the simplest setup of all components being in the same box? why not default to localhost when any connection fails? I think JiveLite was designed to emulate the behavior of a dedicated player device such as the SB3 or Touch. In this scenario the LMS server was always on some other computer over the network. Squeezelite is simply the network stream decoder translating the stream (or file) to a DAC playable format. Code: 2) how can i get rid of the linksys router, a 'dummy' gateway? I'm sure you work something out. You have a couple of suggestions above :) Code: 3) jivelite being UI for the player squeezelite, why is it talking directly to LMS? i imagined the design was jivelite<-->squeezelite<-->lms No, JiveLite is not the UI for Squeezelite. JiveLite is the UI for LMS since that is where the music is stored and everything is managed, where the functional additions are implemented in plugins etc. Squeezelite have no such functionality whatsoever. 2 Touch, 1 Picoreplayer 4.0.0 on RaspBerry 3B with 7" display LMS latest nightly on Ubuntu 18.04.1 on Intel Core2 Duo E4500 @ 2.20GHz, 2GB All wired BosseJ's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=67378 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109789 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Perfect when I've done some simple change like added or replaced the album cover graphic. It's quick, only affect that album and nothing else AFAICT. Yes, curious indeed. I wonder if it is related to my server having no WLAN and no NetworkManager involved? Everything is managed by the if-up/if-down scripts. Here's the output from the "ip addr" command which shows the suppressed eth1. Maybe "netstat" picks up these interfaces even though one of them has no IP assigned? I think the default port that is used in server discovery by the clients is 3483 (not 3438). Besides I don't think that this is a parameter in the server.prefs file, it should hard-coded in both the server and client software. A suggestion is for you to open the firewall to incoming udp/tcp 3483 from your LAN. I guess you already have port 9000 open? You should also check the setting for the CLI command (Settings -> Advanced -> Commandline) and open that port as well (by default it is 9090). 2 Touch, 2 Picoreplayer 5.0.0 on RaspBerry 3B, 1 RasbBerry Zero running Raspian and Squeezelite 1.8 LMS latest nightly on Ubuntu 18.04.3 on Intel Core2 Duo E4500 @ 2.20GHz, 2GB All wired BosseJ's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=67378 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110951 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Your amp is capable of receiving and playing streams over both UPNP and Airplay? If so I think the Andy Grundman plugin "UPnP/DLNA Media Interface" should be removed, it only acts a server for devices that wants to browse and pick streaming files. You need the Philippe plugin "UPNP/DLNA bridge" instead since it would make your UPNP/DLNA acpable players available as any Squeezebox player. In addition I think d6jg explained the gaps when using the Airplay plugin: the Grundman plugin may cause temporary network storms. Or some other solution. As a follow-up: I was worried enough about some of the reports here to pause my planned upgrade of my main server from Ubuntu 18.04.5 to 20.04.1 while I tested a fresh install of Ubuntu (server version) on an IntelNUC I had available. On the IntelNUC machine: 1) after OS install, I installed nfs-common and mounted the music files residing on my main server over NFS and made sure it was working ok. Nothing else was installed. 2) I downloaded LMS (logitechmediaserver_8.0.0~1602486506_amd64.deb) using wget 3) installed with "sudo -i ", but that failed with unresolved dependency for libio-socket-ssl-perl 4) "apt install libio-socket-ssl-perl" also failed because of unresolved dependencies, but "apt --fix-broken install" was recommended. 5) running "apt --fix-broken install" resolved all issues; a handful of other packages were downloaded and installed in addition to libio-socket-ssl-perl, but unfortunately I didn't make a note of them :-( After this LMS started nicely using "systemctl start logitechmediaserver". No problem with start-stop-daemon, it was there - installed as part of the OS-package (package lsb-base). (I suspect alex.h's problems arose from a failed OS update?) I then ran LMS on the IntelNUC for 2-3 days to make sure there were no other sissues, but none appeared. I then upgraded my main server to Ubuntu 20.04.1, and much to my relief the upgrade went fine and LMS worked as before. (My main server is very old, cirka 2007 I believe. I installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS in 2013 and since I have upgraded to 14.04 -> 16.04 -> 18.04, so it has most likely picked up a lot of entropy in terms of old and unsupported packages etc. OS upgrades don't remove packages that are installed outside the package manager.) If there is any interest in what extra packages were installed when running "apt --fix-broken install", I'd be happy to retrace my steps and massage the IntelNUC with a new fresh install. 2 Touch, 2 Picoreplayer v6.1.0 on RaspBerry 3B LMS 8.0.0 on Ubuntu 20.04.1 on Intel Core2 Duo E4500 @ 2.20GHz, 2GB. But with regard to the issue of older plugins not maintained and the "max version" parameter in these, can we not simply delegate the decision to install these old plugins by means of a new preference setting that controls whether the "max version" parameter is honored or not? [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Installing plugins without regard to max version
(M Herger suggested I post this proposal in a separate thread. Here goes ...) There is a parameter setting in the plugins stating the "max version" such as "7.*" which LMS honors and refuse to install or even display in the "3rd party plugins" list. However, they are retained when upgrading LMS if they are already installed. It is also possible to install them manually after editing the parameter, if they can be found and downloaded. So far this has mostly been a matter of alerting the plugin maintainer who after some initial testing (usually) updates the parameter to "8.*" or similar. But some plugins are unmaintained or the maintainer lacks the time and resources to do testing (and consequent maintenance). With regard to the issue of older plugins not maintained and the "max version" parameter in these, can we not simply delegate the decision to install these old plugins by means of a new preference setting that controls whether the "max version" parameter is honored or not? It is already possible to force an installation manually (after editing some file in the module). If the default preference is "honor the module setting" it would require a conscious (I hope) decision by the user to override it. Furthermore, bpa's suggestion is excellent: > As the plugin with 7.* are not presented to an LMS 8.* installation - > the non compliant plugins could be placed in a repository list separate > from "3rd Party Plugins" such as - "3rd party plugins - at your peril" Likewise mherger's caution: > With a big red warning, well hidden at the > bottom of the plugins page... I am sure there are many concerns with this proposal, not the least that it would risk exposing maintainers to support requests they have no time for. Still, it would be interesting to hear what your thoughts are on this. 2 Touch, 2 Picoreplayer v6.1.0 on RaspBerry 3B LMS 8.0.1 on Ubuntu 20.04.1 on Intel Core2 Duo E4500 @ 2.20GHz, 2GB. I think you will get better advice on the OpenSUSE forums for Tumbleweed. Sorry, I run OpenSUSE Lead 15.2 on some machines, but not Tumbleweed. On these versions the legacy /etc/init.d/ is executed if no .service unit file exists. 2 Touch, 2 Picoreplayer v6.1.0 on RaspBerry 3B LMS 8.0.1 on Ubuntu 20.04.1 on Intel Core2 Duo E4500 @ 2.20GHz, 2GB. I will test the update, but before I read your reply I loaded what seemed a suitable extension: pcp-libalac.tcz. Direct streaming from Tidal works with squeezelite-custom set if I have the 'pcp-libalac.tcz' installed (happily listening to Christy Moore 'Live At Vicar St (2002)' on Tidal right now). I'll download the update as well, but to my other pCP (without pcp-libalac.tcz extension). Just pick Proxied Streaming. 2 Touch, 2 Picoreplayer v6.1.0 on RaspBerry 3B LMS 8.0.0 on Ubuntu 20.04.1 on Intel Core2 Duo E4500 @ 2.20GHz, 2GB. [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Direct streaming of Tidal to squeezelite on pCP fails - proxied streaming works
I'm not sure if this is should be discussed under a pCP thread or under LMS. Anyway, If the pCP squeezelite was supposed to handle direct streaming to Tidal, it doesn't ... Please note that this "issue" is easily fixed by setting "Proxied streaming" for the player in LMS! I'm just curious since squeezelite reports HTTPS=1 to LMS, but it still hangs with "Connecting" and is not stoppable from LMS when trying to play a Tidal track. I assume that https is relevant somehow in this case, given the changes in both Tidal and LMS. When this happens, if the page in the LMS Default skin is reloaded, the player disappears from the list of attached players. (But the pCP admin page is still working.) After that only a reboot of the pCP will restore the LMS connection and control. I usually only stream Tidal to my main system Touch and both of my Touch'es have proxied streaming set (which has always worked brilliantly), so I am unsure if Tidal direct streaming has ever worked. This time I tried to stream Tidal to one of my pCP players on the secondary system (I had the pCP players set to Direct streaming), but that failed as described above. The current LMS 8 (1604223200 @ Sun Nov 1) has this behaviour, but also the version before - mentioned because it may be an issue with how stream parameters are transferred? I use my secondary system (LMS on Linux MX 19.2) to check new versions of LMS, before I update my main system. (Although there's never been a showstopper problem on any LMS update that I'm aware of. Incredibly stable given the amount of changes that is being released this last year.) I updated my main system to the same version and could verify that behaviour (ie, no direct streaming to Tidal on a pCP squeezelite) is identical on this system. Again, please note that this is not a real issue since proxied streaming works perfectly. At the most, perhaps a note in the pCP documentation?
