[Audyssey] Fighting games was: frustration
Hi. I do actually agree with clemments point about beat em ups, even though primarily myself the interest in a game like street fighter is it's story, general atmosphere and completing the game on all chars rather than just the competitive side. My issue however is that where as in games like soul calibur the story mode of such games used to be text, now in many titles like the mk series, it takes the form of another type of game mixed with the beat em up, such as a 3D rpg type affair, or even a stratogy battle. Buying say mk deception where I could not play the story mode would be frankly disappointing for me, especially after how much I enjoyed the story modes of games like soul calibur 2 (which i played through thanks to a transcript from the net). Finally, there is the question of price. On my Snes I have a good 40 odd games I can play, and about the same for my gamecube (though many are gba titles). For me to invest in a console, I need to be aware that there are a significant number of playable games, and I thus far haven't seen this. Also, the Wii menue systems is frankly a nightmare requiring far too much trial, error and frustration (mostly due to my poor spacial coordination at point the wii mote), to wish to attempt on my own, one reason i've never bought one, though if Nintendo ever updated the Wii os with a menue I could learn I certainly would. Beware the grue! Dark. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Wel, just google requirements for the game and see if yours meets them. You can play it with a keyboard or a gamepad.. up to you. But if you can get it, and if you like SF, I'd recommend it. Probably best game in the series yet, after SF 3. - Original Message - From: Johnny Tai johnnyti...@shaw.ca To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Saturday, October 23, 2010 12:32 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] fighting games No, my PC is rather...old...not sure if it'd support a game controller- or can you play it with keyboard? But in a real boxing match and in sighted games, the apponent has a chance of dodging or blocking your attacks, but its not like that in rumble. Also, no komintating about the match, just stuff like oh, he's having bad luck... Stuff like that. And its not the punching moves, but they say, duck, block, or go to the left or right. For an example, you'd duck under a hook, which we call a wroll. Its like ducking and turning. They could say enemy uppercut, and you could block the punch. Also, the game gives you enough time to hit. That should be like 5 seconds. And also, they don't really have boxing language in that game. And the sounds are so fake. One game that has real good English voices in my opinion is the Maximum impact games- especially the second one- that's one of my all time favorite games. And yes, some games sound just awful when done in English lol- I think the Bloody Roars games got very bad reviews for that in particular. Did you manage to spar effectively? Wel, I think when you're confronted with someone like Jinpachi who has a face sticking out o his chest.. your first reaction is shock. And because it's a martial arts tournament, I would imagine firearms aren't allowed.. unless you're Jack, that is. - Original Message - From: Johnny Tai johnnyti...@shaw.ca To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Friday, October 22, 2010 6:12 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] fighting games Kendo is actually quite blind friendly- I had some absic training in that when I learn swordfighting. There were Chinese-made games for the PC that uses Mandarin, none of them particularly well known though, and I don't think any of them is fighting game. You ever finish the game with Raven in tekken 5? Lol when he saw what kind of monster he was supposed to fight his reaction was funny! Here I guess is where the Tekken plot goes slightly wacky: fighting human is one thing, but when faced with something monsterous like Jintachi, guys like Lei and Raven who carry firearms should act accordingly and just use whatever they got rofl. I mean, if it's alright for Yashimitsu to use a laser sword...why can't Lei use his gun? lol I think that's what attracts me to the Toshinden series- quite a few fighters in there do use firearms rofl. Wel, crimson viper is crimson viper. She's a weird girl. Do you have SF 4 for the pc? Their is also audio rumble as a fighting game, but I don't play it because its so boring. Basically, you have in boxing jab, cross, hook and uppercut, and they haven't included this, haymaker. The game also is very symple. The guy says jab, and if your quick enough, you hit your enemy with a strate punch. You can play it if you want to, I am not stopping any one, but I am just saying my advice. What they should do with the dodging moves is to do with the subject, because that game is so boring. Maybe bad's the wrong term, Feng's Mandarin's okay, it's the um, dialog I guess, that's really cheesy for him lol. I do love that character though, his style's great and I always got a thing for more explosive characters---my favorite is still Bryan Fury...even the name rocks. Watched the new Tekken film yet? The fights are great, though I think the storyline they changed it to really needs some work. I wish there is a good DBZ fighting game for psx/ps2 out there- so far what I've seen are mostly what I'd call 'eye candy' made to appeal fans and not much else. Back with SNES, the DBZ fighting games were well made, and even those who don't know the series could pick it up and had a field-day with them. I was one such player lol, I had no idea what DBZ was really about, but I saw this cool fighting game with this big dude named Android 16 who could do some impressive moves like shoot his hands out as missile...lol...and I was hooked. When I tried the DBZ fighting game, can't remember which one, on PSX, and found out all it was was you fly all over the screen trying to line up a shot at your opponent who's doing the same, I was so disappointed. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] fighting games-was Re: marvel vs. capcom 3 gameplay
I've seen the movie, didn't like it much. Yeah the fights were okay, but they messed up the story like you said. This is why I don't call fighting games based f animes fighting games. They have people fighting one on one, yes, but they're more akin to brawlers... so many of them are about flash and not about good mechanics. This is where I don't like reviewers like gamespot and ign, because they call them games with deep mechanics and good fighting systems. There's a reason they aren't played competetively, and if you talk to any real true fighting gamer who loves their fighters, they'll tell you that KOF, SF and tekken are real fightings. Naruto: ultimate ninja games, dragon ball z games, aren't what we would call fighters. Anyhow, I think feng's dialog is cheesy too... but no more cheesy than any other chinese action movie. lol. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Heh, I download the digimon battle arena for my PSP. It's kinda cute in the beginning, but after a few stages it just got boring since you play every char the same way just with different flashy transformations and such- that got to be the shortest-living game on my PSP. Had soul blade on it too but for some reason when I unlocked the secret char Han, and tried to select the game would crash lol. Currently I'm visiting one of my old favorites during my down times- Star Gladiator- a fighting game probably very few remember. It's a capcom 3d fighting game with star warsish plot and chars, and soul blade-like gameplay. Some that remember say it was the best 3d fighting game of its time, I don't know if I'd go that far, but I definitely loved/still love it. The down side is my copy doesn't have any music beyond the intro for some weird reason...very anoying. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. are you sure Maximum impact 2 had the best voices? lol. Crtics say that was probably the worst voice work in english in the KOF series. And I guess Lei knwing english makes sense... but it would've been nice to have him speak Cantonese. Never played bloody roar, but heard a lot of bad about it. lol. And as for resident evil... that actually turned ou to be one of its staples. Played it for a while, and didn't mind it... had some nice concepts. lol. But where games were concerned, especially 3d weapons-based fighter, I much, much prefered soul blade. And apparently, there's a new toshinden game being made for the wii. Yeah, some say the voices are bad for Maximum, but I personally really like it. Alot of the issues center around how things are translated too- move names etc. For some reason, it's okay for Ryu, for example, to shot 'Hadoken!' every time he fires the attack, but if he shouts it in English...well, you get the picture...Hurricane Kick! There is one problem with maximum impact 2 that I've noticed- where voices are concerned, but I'm not sure if this exists in English only or in both: Sometimes if the actions go too fast, the characters' voices overlay, like your character's saying ouch and shouting the attack at the same time- very goofy. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Yeah, Toshinden is/was definitely not in the Soul league I think. But hey, you can't shrug off a game that has a character whose main purpose is/was to look/sound like Michael Jackson lol. Though Toshinden claimed to be 3d, according to many it was actually 2.5D- whatever that is. One thing that annoys me alot when playing Toshinden 1 and 2 is the falling off the ledge thing- I hate drop-off arenas! Especially when you use a large guy like Iron, often as soon as you start the fight he falls off. The one thing that kinda annoys me about 3 is that they filled the roster with duplicates of each original characters and called it quit. I know the same practice has been used by many games, but personally it just feels like a cheap way of making the roster look big. I have exactly the same issues with the king of fighters series since the Kyo clones appeared too. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Ryu in any SF game fllowing the first one only has Japanese voices. a hadouken is a hadouken. But in Street Fighter 4, it's a very bad pronounciation of Hadouken. And hurricane kick isn't tatsumaki senpu kyaku anymore. It becomes r! lol. Yet, all the other moves remain, though badly pronounced. As for the voice problem in Maximum impact, it's just a small glitch. - Original Message - From: Johnny Tai johnnyti...@shaw.ca To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Tuesday, October 19, 2010 8:59 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] fighting games-was Re: marvel vs. capcom 3 gameplay Yeah, some say the voices are bad for Maximum, but I personally really like it. Re: [Audyssey] fighting games-was Re: marvel vs. capcom 3 gameplay
Lol, the one bone I've to pick with Tekken lately, and I'm not the only one it seems- I've seen alot of whining on youtube about this one, that ridiculously cheap/tough bosses we're given in 5 and 6. I haven't spent alot of time with 6 yet, so I have not found a way to beat the...insert swear word here...but I did play 5 alot, and that boss was just...well, if you don't know how to beat it, it kills you in two hits, but once you find one move to use on it and just keep repeating, it's so easy it's no fun. To me that's a big design flaw, a boss character should be hard, but hard in the way that'd make it a good fight instead of something like an instant kill. This is where I find Capcom games thus far are good with- most bosses are tough yet not 'cheap.' I say most cause I haven't been able to beat Shin Akuma in Marvel verses Capcom II- again, I've seen several guides/reviews that whine about that one too. The soul series bosses are good that way too, tough but with some serious play time and work, beatable. Of all the games I've played to date, my favorite boss is actually Geese from Fatal Fury Wild Ambition- I haven't beat him yet, but every time it's s close that even the sore loser in me gotta admit it was a good fight. Come to think of it, it's funny that they'd make Tekken 5 and 6 bosses this way- I remember I used to say that Tekken bosses were rather wimpy- especially tekken 3 and 4. Tekken 2 on the other hand, blocky graphics and so-so sounds aside, had a great balance...Kazuya was a beast lol. Tekken 1 was too easy, but for its time I guess it was fine. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Lol, everytime I hear Guile speaking English, or what supposed to be English, in most SF games, I cringe... At least Tekken makes the languages sound okay eh? It's like the earlier Fatal Fury games, I had no idea that Terry was shouting English lol. Mind you, for someone who grew up watching cheesy Chinese martial art movies, I laughed my head off when I heard Feng's Mandarin in Tekken...no one speaks Mandarin like that! I kinda hope that they'd have him shout some move names in Mandarin...that'd be funny. You were saying how badly the hadoken is pronounced...ever watched the Street Fighter U.S cartoon series? Re: [Audyssey] fighting games-was Re: marvel vs. capcom 3 gameplay
If you're the Canadian Johnny Tai I've heard about, then we have the taiwanese background in common. lol. Well, tekken five's boss was cheap yes, so was 6. But half the fighting games in the world have cheap bosses. SNK fighters in general are notorious for their cheap bosses. As to Feng's manderin... I've actually heard a lot of people talk like that in films. That is considered the manderin standard. And it's nowhere near as funy as watching people from taiwan speaking it. especially people who speak more Taiwanese than Manderin. I haven't seen the cartoon, but I did see a clip of Street Fighter: the movie... that is, the fighting game. And let's just say that that makes Resident Evil's acting sound almost decent. - Original Message - From: Johnny Tai johnnyti...@shaw.ca To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Tuesday, October 19, 2010 9:32 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] fighting games-was Re: marvel vs. capcom 3 gameplay Lol, everytime I hear Guile speaking English, or what supposed to be English, in most SF games, I cringe... Yeah, I'm the one you...um...heard of...and I am sure I know from whom... lol You're right SNK bosses are so cheap they got their own trade mark as SNK Boss Syndrome lol- I almsot trashed the darn controller trying to beat the boss of Maximum Impcat 2- granted, I only just picked up the game like 3 hours prior to trying, so the fact I made it to him without defeat was a good sign- but a combination of super damaging moves, teleportation, freezing, and a squeaky voice just made that boss particularly madning. Lol, don't pick on Taiwanese Mandarin...when I was, *clear throat* your age...here we go...alot of us spoke that way just cause it was considered cool rofl. You know the whole Taiwanese gangster stuff...you supposed to chain-smoke, talk with bad Mandarin and drink alot of beer. The motion picture of SF is/was, masterful, when compared against the US series lol- seriously, that series' just bad enough to be worth watching. The Tekken 2 animated movie on the other hand, was alot better- the English dialogs were still kind of stiff, but at least with more emotions. I'm not sure if you watched any of these animes in Cantonese or Mandarin dubbs- those can be rather awful too. I watched the whole Dragon Ball Z series in Mandarin, and the whole Saint Seiya series too. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Hey, I'm 18. And maybe we should keep this going offlist if we're going to keep non-gaming stuff involved. lol. And I'm pretty sure you know who I've heard about you from. haha. Hey, I'm not that young... I'm 18. lol. And I know plenty of people who still talk like that. It's the whole thing with them speaking hokien... and the pronunciations and accents cary through to the manderin. But I don't thnk Feng's manderin is that bad... like I sad. Any gangster or action movie has that kind spoken in it. Never saw the SF animated series, but I did see the live action film... I thought it was okay. In terms of fighting game to movie conversions, the best one still has to be the original MK film. That one is unrivalled... and dragon ball z in manderin? That could be interesting to watch. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Well, it depends on what fighting game your looking up moves for, usually 2 is down 4 is back up is 8 and forward is 6, and then it usually works the same for the other side of the controller, but if it's a fighting game for the computer, then I couldn't help you their, this is for console fighters. -Original Message- From: gamers-boun...@audyssey.org [mailto:gamers-boun...@audyssey.org] On Behalf Of Orin Sent: Friday, January 22, 2010 5:02 PM To: brandonsl...@freelists.org Cc: Gamers Discussion list Subject: [Audyssey] Fighting Games (Number Notation?) Hey all, I was looking at a move list, and as well as standard notation, it had number notation as well like with the buttons being represented as 1-9. I guess this is for the people who have the fighting joysticks? Was trying to understand it and well I knew that forward is 6, 2 is down, but I'm wondering what 1-3 and 7-9 are? --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] fighting games was Re: my oppinion to the game marked
Hi Mark, no not in the sense of an accessible game like you are used to. There is a lot of dialog in the game and when you select a character his name is spoken so you can tell who you have selected, but you will need to memorize the menus and the character grid because this is a mainstream game and it is of course assumed that the player can see the screen. Hope this helps. Hrm, There was something about ninjas--darkstalker chronicles if I'm not mistaken. I can't find tekken hear, darn it! And mk: Unchained, iether. I would also like to go on a little bit of a rant here, because its what I do best, and because I think I have proof to back myself up. So like Sega and Nintendo were neck in neck when the beloved Genny hit the market. The genny was the first to ever release a video game with blood in it- Nintendo Cringed at the idea, hence the reason nowadays they make these games fit for, well, kids. Sure there are the odd game- but it doesn't hold a candle to Sega, or sony. I remember when everyone was hyped about the ps2. Well, It totally whiped out the dreamcast- which had some notable fighting games. If anyones interested, there's a streetfighter game, and a Mortal Kombat game I managed to snag. There's probably some more, I've just been too busy to look. The dreamcast is a half decent price- 30 bucks, perhaps- and usually come with a few games. Have a good day from Tyler C. I currently have Tekken Dark Resurrection for my psp and am going to pick up MK Unchained as soon as the blasted EB Games here in town gets a copy in. As for MK VS DC, that sounds cool as well, however I don't have the cash for a ps3 at this point and probably won't anytime soon so probably won't get to play that one very soon here. Yeah, they're keeping the main elements of MK in, but for example, they won't be able to have fatalities as we know them anymore, the DC Universe doesn't allow for big bloody gorey attacks. They've already confirmed there won't be any fatalities as such, but instead sort of finisher attacks. I'm thinking they may have replaced them with brutalities of sorts, as the new name. And no more weapon combat, *cries*. haha. Anyway, I watched some E3 gameplay videos on gamespot, and it all sounds amazing. They've even got powerful blows reinforced with musical notes in the background as they do sometimes in movies or in the DC animated series's. I wonder when they're going to finally set a release date? --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. well it was always my view that acefire was to simplistic. thats obvious just my opinion but I wouldn't pay for it. its just to simple. I need something I can replay that can if it wishes kick my rear so hard I go crying to mum. I've played acefire, and it is fun, but I don't really like the randomness aspect. If I beat an opponent, I wanted to be due to skill, not a random number generator. I'm not criticizing the game in any way, just putting my opinion out there. I've only played the demo mind you, but I suspect the online version is almost identical, only with a real opponent and not a computer player. Now if you were to create an actual fighting game, and it had online playability, I'd be the first to buy it. I absolutely love fighting games. not sure why there haven't been any fighting audiogames created, I don't imagine it would be all that difficult. Now we're on the subject, any of you checked out the Mortal Kombat VS dc universe videos that have come out recently? The game sounds absolutely amazing. I'll be buying a ps3 for sure in the next few months mainly to play this game. - Original Message - From: Damien Sadler [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Friday, August 01, 2008 7:20 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] my oppinion to the game marked No. I worked quite hard on Acefire, no matter how simple it is, and things didn't go as planned for me either. As far as Acefire goes, do you guys want any new features in it? If so, what would you like? I have quite a lot of time to work on it, I've already fixed some bugs, added a message notification system so you know when an online opponent is typing, there's going to be more insults, etc. Please get back to me. And his game is free. End quote Actually, Rail Racer is not a free product. What the issue was is that when Che initially released Rail Racer he was disappointed in the low number of sales he was making. He expected, hoped for, a much larger number of sales and it took a long time to get up to 200 sales. Che has finally managed to get a reasonable amount of sales now, but it took him several months to get the amount of sales he expected to have in the first couple of months. His disappointment is understandable. He was a brand new game developer, didn't know exactly what to expect from the market, and when it took a long time to meet those expectations he was disappointed initially. Now, that time has passed he is satisfied with his sales, but they certainly could have been better of course. The big lesson we have all learned from this is we shouldn't kill ourselves creating the most advanced game possible. Jim's games are simple, fun, games that can get completed because they don't take years to bring to completion. Re: [Audyssey] fighting games was Re: my oppinion to the game marked
I personally did not care for ace fire but it could be fun for some people. Way to simplistic and no type of skill or anything of the sort. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of shaun everiss Sent: Friday, August 01, 2008 7:33 PM To: Gamers Discussion list Subject: Re: [Audyssey] fighting games was Re: my oppinion to the game marked well it was always my view that acefire was to simplistic. thats obvious just my opinion but I wouldn't pay for it. its just to simple. I need something I can replay that can if it wishes kick my rear so hard I go crying to mum. Something like that would be good we have to many simple games, ok granted they are the easiest to do and are part of the vi market but still.
