I second Christopher on this! The advantages outweigh the disadvantages by a
long way.
I suppose a lot of this discussion will be influenced by the type of work you
do. In pure engraving work where final output will never be altered, then
extracted parts are fine. But for those working on
to deal with it is to select the staff with the
messed up lyrics, chose clear lyrics and then paste them back in again to the
lyrics window and then click assign them back into the score. After that they
seem to be ok and won't mess up again.

There is a little trick it took me a long time to discover, that in a mac print
dialogue (save as pdf) where there is a prompt for the file name you can click
on any file name in the active window, even if it is greyed out, and it
auto-inserts the name of the file you've clicked on - sometimes
Toccata font has them, so does one of the Engraver fonts that comes with Finale.

I have found a solution for the score lists bug in Fin 2009.
I could never get the tempo markings to show on top staff of parts
even though it was checked.
What I discovered was that if you uncheck and then re-check show on
top staff it will show up on the top staff of each part. This is
