Re: [Audyssey] rail racer key

2009-03-25 Thread Shadow Dragon
Personally I thought the list was here for discussion of games, not as a
tech support list for those having issues with games. I understand the odd
spoiler question or asking for help with gameplay, but it seems more and
more like the list is turning towards technical issues, most of which the
developer of said game is more than happy to help with. I only answered
because I was trying to stop something like this from happening. Of course,
by sending this I'm just furthering the cause, so I'll stop being
hipocritical now. I hope noone takes this personally.

Are your questions answered in the game manual or by the developer? I
think the list is here for issues that cannot be solved through common
sense or knowledge. All I did was to maybe steer you in the right
direction to find your answer, using the most commonly available avenue.
There's no need to jump on people for doing this. Simply try their
advice, and, if it doesn't get you the answer you need, then you can ask
on the list after trying the advice, plain and simple. HTH

Re: [Audyssey] Rail Racer Key.

2009-03-25 Thread Che
You will need multiple keys for multiple computers. In the past, I have
given those keys out for free to registered customers. Unfortunately, I
found out folks were taking advantage of my generosity, so from now on you
will have to purchase a seperate key for each new system. However, if you
are a registered purchaser of Rail Racer, I will sell the extra key at a
reduced price, basically half off the purchase price of $39.95. To get this
price though, you have to email me directly at

c...@blindadrenaline.com
If you have questions about this, feel free to email me off list as well.
Regarding the complaints about subject matter, I think constantine had the
best suggestion. Just group your messages, hit that delete key and no
worries. Barring that, you can email a moderator and complain about it, but
since this particular question was about accessible gaming, I think you'll
be spitting up a rope, but who knows, maybe you'll find Thomas to be in a
particularly aggressive mood and he'll start kicking folks off left and
right at the point of an archeologist's knife.

[Audyssey] Moderator Note was Rail Racer Key.

2009-03-25 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi everyone,
I've remaind silent while this topic was going on, but now I feel I need
to leave everyone here with a quick note. The purpose of this list is
the discussion of games accessible through accident or design. The
discussion can be as general or as technical as you would like provided
it is about accessible gaming.
That is why I have stood back while Will asked about how to obtain Rail
Racer keys for a second computer. Some might not like the fact that he
did not ask Che directly, but the fact remains the topic is still
perfectly ok on this list. Remember if there is a topic you do not like
your best choice is to press the delete key.

Ah, sorry about that. I'm so used to conflicting opinions on here that I
wasn't sure if technically stuff was allowed but frowned upon, allowed,
disallowed or what. Sometimes people, developers included, answer, and
sometimes developers say to contact them off list to avoid clutter. All gets
kind of confusing.

Re: [Audyssey] Beta 3 Impressions

2009-03-25 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Lukas,

Lukas Said:
The enemy seems to be
able to hit me occasionally even when I remain in a crouch. So does
this mean that

the AI has been reworked to take ducking into
account and still be able to hit the player?

Tom Says:
Yes, that is true. The enemy AI has been updated when you are
ducking/jumping there is still a chanse it can hit you. Sometimes it
will miss and others it will hit you straight on. So it is much trickier.

Lukas Said:
And weapons aren't being announced
when they are changed while ducking any more, as it used to be. I would
love the

announcement back, I got quite used to it.

Tom Says:
I wasn't even aware there was a bug/problem with this. When did this
problem begin? When did you first notice this problem?

Thanks

I found my old Sega Megadrive. I'd love to get some more games for it, did
anyone of you guys have them and what games were accessible and did you guys
like to play? My friend and I have tried Mortal Combat 3 (remember how cool

Hi all,
Two topics here.
First, I haven't had time, but if someone could try it and give us a review
if the site or any games on it are accessible, remember the Sega Megadrive?
Well, Sega has just launched a free site where you can play the old games,
and, for a subscription, you have access to even more titles, like Sonic,
etc.
www.playsega.com
I found my old Sega Megadrive. I'd love to get some more games for it, did
anyone of you guys have them and what games were accessible and did you guys
like to play? My friend and I have tried Mortal Combat 3 (remember how cool
it was that we thought it was great when it talked a bit?), Toughman Boxing,
and WWF Arcade Game. Anyone remember the commentators and bringing back all
the nostalgia of wrestling 1995 with Doynk The Clown, Razor Ramon, Brett
Heart and Yoko Zoona?

Re: [Audyssey] Moderator Note was Rail Racer Key.

2009-03-25 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi,
It really depends on the developer. Obviously a developer that isn't on
this list would prefer they get asked personally or via there company
mailing list as they can answer questions directly. Developers like
myself who are on this list probably don't mind a question sent to the
developer, the developer directly, his/her mailing list, or this list
because the question can get answered no matter where the question goes.
It just depends on the developer.
Anyway, regarding the list rules anything gaming related is usually
acceptable here unless there is some compelling reason why the
information should not be shared. Such reasons are sharing private
information regarding a private test release of a game, sharing product
keys, game cracks, or anything else a developer would obviously not want
widely known or shared on a forum like this.

Shadow Dragon wrote:
Ah, sorry about that. I'm so used to conflicting opinions on here that I
wasn't sure if technically stuff was allowed but frowned upon, allowed,
disallowed or what. Sometimes people, developers included, answer, and
sometimes developers say to contact them off list to avoid clutter. All
gets kind of confusing.

Here's one you might be interested in. I'll just post the add below rather
than describing it. Last time I checked the emulators were pretty solidly
accessible, and all the games can be launched from the site.

Play thousands of classic console games on your PC! With Console Classix,
you can enjoy the games of the past without the headache of hooking up
classic console after classic console to your TV! This means thousands of
classic, retro, and nostalgic games at your fingertips rather than wasting
away in your basement!

Console Classix is retro-gaming reborn! Sign-up now for a lite account and
get COMPLETELY FREE access to hundreds of Nintendo (NES), Atari 2600 and
Colecovision games.

When you are ready, simply upgrade to a full membership and get complete
access to our library of classic games for the Super Nintendo (SNES), Sega
Genesis, Gameboy Color, Sega Game Gear and Sega Master System.

They aren't lying either, they really do have a gigantic collection of
games. Everything from the widely known games like TMNT and Zelda, to
obscure games like Little Ninja Bros (one of my personal favorites.) I
definitely recommend checking this one out.

Sorry for the double post. One thing that's cool about console classix is
that you can send in your cartridges if they don't have a game, and they'll
actually do a full rom rip and post it up there. You probably won't get your
cart back but I thought it was a neat feature. Leaves room for full
expansion. Oh, and here's the link:

Hi Nicol,
I don't know why you didn't get my answer about your sales question a
couple of days ago, but never-the-less I'll answer again on list. Just
so that others can see my answer as well.
The reason there is no buy now button for Mysteries of the Ancients on
our shopping cart page is because we are currently not taking orders for
that game. When Mysteries of the Ancients reaches 1.0 stable, when the
game is completed, that is when we will begin taking orders for the
game. Understand that we took a very big risk by taking orders for
Montezuma's Revenge before it was finished, and that ended in total
disaster for us. We do not want to get ourselves into that situation
again for any amount of money.

Sorry for the double post. One thing that's cool about console classix is
that you can send in your cartridges if they don't have a game, and
they'll actually do a full rom rip and post it up there. You probably
won't get your cart back but I thought it was a neat feature. Leaves room
for full expansion. Oh, and here's the link:

Here's one you might be interested in. I'll just post the add below
rather than describing it. Last time I checked the emulators were pretty
solidly accessible, and all the games can be launched from the site.

Play thousands of classic console games on your PC! With Console Classix,
you can enjoy the games of the past without the headache of hooking up
classic console after classic console to your TV! This means thousands of
classic, retro, and nostalgic games at your fingertips rather than
wasting away in your basement!

Console Classix is retro-gaming reborn! Sign-up now for a lite account
and get COMPLETELY FREE access to hundreds of Nintendo (NES), Atari 2600
and Colecovision games.

When you are ready, simply upgrade to a full membership and get complete
access to our library of classic games for the Super Nintendo (SNES),
Sega Genesis, Gameboy Color, Sega Game Gear and Sega Master System.

They aren't lying either, they really do have a gigantic collection of
games. Everything from the widely known games like TMNT and Zelda, to
obscure games like Little Ninja Bros (one of my personal favorites.) I
definitely recommend checking this one out.

This inspired me to take a look for other such sites, and I've

Hi all,
Two topics here.
First, I haven't had time, but if someone could try it and give us a
review
if the site or any games on it are accessible, remember the Sega
Megadrive?
Well, Sega has just launched a free site where you can play the old
games,
and, for a subscription, you have access to even more titles, like
Sonic,

etc.
www.playsega.com
I found my old Sega Megadrive. I'd love to get some more games for it,
did
anyone of you guys have them and what games were accessible and did you
guys
like to play? My friend and I have tried Mortal Combat 3 (remember how
cool
it was that we thought it was great when it talked a bit?), Toughman
Boxing,
and WWF Arcade Game. Anyone remember the commentators and bringing back
all

the nostalgia of wrestling 1995 with Doynk The Clown, Razor Ramon, Brett
Heart and Yoko Zoona?

Hi Lukas,

Lukas Said:
The enemy seems to be
able to hit me occasionally even when I remain in a crouch. So does this
mean that

the AI has been reworked to take ducking into
account and still be able to hit the player?

Tom Says:
Yes, that is true. The enemy AI has been updated when you are
ducking/jumping there is still a chanse it can hit you. Sometimes it will
miss and others it will hit you straight on. So it is much trickier.

Lukas Said:
And weapons aren't being announced
when they are changed while ducking any more, as it used to be. I would
love the

announcement back, I got quite used to it.

Tom Says:
I wasn't even aware there was a bug/problem with this. When did this
problem begin? When did you first notice this problem?

[Audyssey] MOTA Mouse Support

2009-03-25 Thread Thomas Ward

Hello everyone,
Ok, got a question for you Mysteries of the Ancients fans regarding
mouse support. I've been trying for the passed couple of months to get
the mouse working properly in the game, and still haven't been able to
get total error free support. At this point you can use the mouse to
run, walk, and climb which is fine. However, if you pres the left mouse
button down to jump or the right button to fire the game window loses
focus and you end up clicking something on your desktop. Definitely not
cool. It is because of that reason mouse support has been turned off in
the last three public betas. So here is the question.
Would you guys be ok with a keyboard mouse combo such as control-mouse
left to jump left, control-mouse right to jump right, etc and I can make
a note not to use the mouse buttons which aren't supported? On the other
hand would you be alright if I just drop mouse support for Mysteries of
the Ancients altogether since the mouse buttons are being a royal pain
to get working on my end of things?

Thanks.

Re: [Audyssey] MOTA Mouse Support

2009-03-25 Thread Che

Hi Thomas and any other interested developers,
There is an easy fix for this. Just put the mouse in relative mode and
restrict the boundaries to a small box on your form, that way the mouse
never moves beyond those boundaries. Shouldn't take more than twenty minutes
to code.

I did this for Rail Racer, and it works beautifully.
I for one hope very much that you get it working, as it is beyond time we
have more games with mouse support in them, and gamers get comfortable with
using the mouse.
It looks more and more like the mouse or a gamePad will be required for my
fighting game, so the more folks we get going with the mouse the better for
all of us developers.

 Hi,
This can be fixed by checking the status of the control key when a speech

triggered, not having speech stop if it is already down.

Hi,
I know. I do a lot of play using the mouse and I can turn, walk, and
generally get around the levels a lot faster because responce is almost
instantanious with the mouse. that said it really bites that the mouse
buttons aren't working as it would make the input that much more
enjoyable. Though, I can just use the control key and shift key in combo
with the mouse to get the same effect for jumping, running, and of
course space still fires.

Hi che,
Thing is the mouse is already in relative mode, and so far my attempts
to trap it inside the game window hasn't been too successful. Believe me
I want more than anything to get this working as after playing RR with
the mouse I want to be able to get the same kind of input with my games.
In fact, even the buggy support I have now is pretty good. I like the
fact if an enemy sneeks up from the other side a little nudge of the
mouse will have Angela spin around and aim right at it. Much more fluid
and natural than the keyboard. The responce times are incredible.

restrict the boundaries to a small box on your form, that way the mouse
never moves beyond those boundaries. Shouldn't take more than twenty
minutes to code.

I did this for Rail Racer, and it works beautifully.
I for one hope very much that you get it working, as it is beyond time
we have more games with mouse support in them, and gamers get comfortable
with using the mouse.
It looks more and more like the mouse or a gamePad will be required for
my fighting game, so the more folks we get going with the mouse the
better for all of us developers.

in regular games for sseing gamers the mouse is never used for moving your
character but more for aimimg and shooting and such. so to me it would not
make a lot of sense to try and navigate with a mouse at all. most times that

i like movement with arrow keys, works fine for me.

Re: [Audyssey] MOTA Mouse Support

2009-03-25 Thread Che
I am answering this on list in the hopes it might help other developers as
well.
To trap the mouse, simply reset its coordinates to wherever you want it
locked every cycle. If your form pops up at mid screen with a resolution of
500, 500 for example, lock it to 500 -500 and you should be golden, just get
the relative change each cycle from that point. I'm recalling the
coordinate system off the top of my head here, but you get the idea I'm
sure.
You will have to play around with capturing its coordinates and determining
how much movement to translate, depending on how often you ping it but there
isn't much to that really , jus throw a multiplier variable in there that
you can adjust while playing until you get it set to what you want. Like
wise, this variable can be adjusted in options to allow the player to set
their own mouse sensitivity in game.
If you aren't using a hard cycle, then just give the mous its own thread
and timer and away you go.

There really isn't much to it once you get it locked down every cycle.
 Later,
che

Hello everyone,
Ok, got a question for you Mysteries of the Ancients fans regarding mouse
support. I've been trying for the passed couple of months to get the mouse
working properly in the game, and still haven't been able to get total
error free support. At this point you can use the mouse to run, walk, and
climb which is fine. However, if you pres the left mouse button down to
jump or the right button to fire the game window loses focus and you end
up clicking something on your desktop. Definitely not cool. It is because
of that reason mouse support has been turned off in the last three public
betas. So here is the question.
Would you guys be ok with a keyboard mouse combo such as control-mouse
left to jump left, control-mouse right to jump right, etc and I can make a
note not to use the mouse buttons which aren't supported? On the other
hand would you be alright if I just drop mouse support for Mysteries of
the Ancients altogether since the mouse buttons are being a royal pain to
get working on my end of things?

Thanks.

What is the thinking out there? I for one hate playing exclusively with

you have an entirely new dimension of control if it is programmed right.
For instance, I am still kicking around the idea of doing a mouse driven

But my point is, we're limiting ourselves for no good reason here, and I

Re: [Audyssey] The fun little mouse, was:: MOTA Mouse Support

2009-03-25 Thread Scott Chesworth
Hey Che,

Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, the resistance is there just
because it's a whole new device. There'll be less resistance to game
pads because they've got more buttons and people can think of them
subconsciously as funny shaped scaled down keyboards lol. Ah but
there's joysticks on most pads I hear you cry, and you're right there
is. There's also d pads on most, and I'd bet my boots that's what
most blind folks are using over a joystick if both are an option,
because a d pad is closer to using the arrows on your keyboard in that
it has clearly defined directions to tap.

The reason I'm ranting about this is that, until quite recently, I
took an extended break from gaming. The first few titles on the PS2
were the last big events for me, then due to money and band
commitments and whatever else gaming just kinda got phased out. My
point is that I've come back recently to find that there are beatemups
around now where you can't avoid using the joysticks on those PS3/PS2
controllers, and coming at it with a fresh set of hands that'd be
rusty on any pad made me realise that they're great. I've taken a
similar philosiphy with mouse input, just tested it out on the Rail
Racer demo for the first time earlier, and I'm totally sold. You'll
be getting an order for a key from me in a sec.

I guess the point of this rant is don't knock it until you've tried it
folks. With a more expressive form of input like actual mouse
movement, tried it means spending a few hours with it and getting a
feel for it until you start to operate on instinct as you would with a
keyboard, it doesn't mean giving it a quick waggle and giving up
because it's not what you're used too. Sure there'll be those who
never take to it, just like there are those who never grow to love the
Wii's method, but for some games in particular I'd say it'd be well
worth your time to give it a whirl if you haven't already.

Hi Nicol.

sinse you don't get click hints on insane, it's just a matter of trying
combinations, luckily sinse there are four numbers, there aren't to many
combinations.

i usually begin by first swapping the first two numbers over, then the
second two, then the middle two, then the end two, and that usually does the
trick, especially as you have a surprisingly long time to switch them
around.

If you want practice, i suggest you try playing lockpick from lworks, which
uses very much the same principle, though with only three numbers.

i'd say out of the three main bsc titles, i find blast chamber to be both my
favourite and the one I find most replayable, sinse there are so many
different surprising elements and challenges to master in the game, such as
remembering spider order, timing electricity, not to mention those side
scrollers.

i'd Almost go as far as saying pipe 2 is probably my favourite arcade style
audio game yet.

the only trouble is, my main desktop keyboard is new, and the keys aren't as
comfortably broken in as on my laptop, so hammering those pipes is more
difficult, lol!

I did try pipe 1, but to be honest there just didn't seem to be enough
variety in the gameplay for me to want to buy a copy, though i did like
some of the sounds.

i'm only sorry Bsc don't seem to be developing anymore, sinse I'd love to
see a pipe 3, with even more craziness!

while I understand this is due to the head dev getting a job, I do feel it's
a bit of a loss to the audiogames community that we miss his input.

Re: [Audyssey] MOTA Mouse Support

2009-03-25 Thread dark

Hi Tom.

while mouse support would be funky in many games, judgement day, rale
racer, not to mention Che's fighting idea (I was a big fan of Brian's
attempt at the magic gestures game), my personal view is that it wouldn't
really do much in motor, sinse mota is a side scrolling platform game not
based upon complex joystick motions, or the sort of realistic throttle esque
timing seen in a racing or shooting game.

Mota's challenge is much more about where you go, and how you time fighting
monsters.

Of course, sinse I grew up, and indeed stil do, play graphical side
scrollers with either the pc keyboard or (as I always prefer if possible),
my mighty arcade joysticks, I'm probably rather biased here, but imho mouse
support just wouldn't add to the game at all.

of course though, if you ever create that solo starship control game,
not to mention raceway, Mouse support would probably be fun.

Just my thoughts.

Subject: [Audyssey] MOTA Mouse Support

Thanks.

Re: [Audyssey] The fun little mouse, was:: MOTA Mouse Support

2009-03-25 Thread dark
There are some pretty nifty games I've heard of which use the mouse or other
relative in put devices to control the character.

take for example the old spindizy games on the amigar, which used either a
mouse or a trackball to tilt the level around and make a pinball fall into
holes.

I've also heard of several scrolling shooters flying spaceships which use
the mouse as a smoother and more streamline control method for the main
ship.

that being said though, imho a platform game where the concentration is on
moving and climing in streight lines doesn't require a mouse particularly.

As I said though, as a lover of joysticks, and reluctantly a keyboard, I'm
probably heavily biased on this point.

Re: [Audyssey] The fun little mouse, was:: MOTA Mouse Support

2009-03-25 Thread James Dietz
I'm actually curious to find out how Thomas implemented the mouse to
control the character's running. Would I continuously have to move the
mouse to the right? If so I don't think I'd have a large enough desk
to avoid the need to pick it up occasionally. That'd obviously work
better with a trackball, but I'd rather use a keyboard or joystick for
something like character movement if I'd have to continuously move the
mouse in the direction I want to move.

Well I finally completed missions 1 and 2 this morning. That aircraft
carrier had been frustrating the living bejesus out of me but I finally
managed to get a targetting solution and unloaded all four torpedos into it.
Turned out I only needed two or three but I wasn't about to take any chances
on it getting away from me again. So Mission 1 was a breeze. Mission 2 was a
lot more tense what with the mine fields but I managed not to collide with
any of them. I took out the first oil platform with my deck gun but that
took too long and so I took out the others with torpedos. May have been
unnecessary but ah well. Now all I gotta do is wait for David to send me my
unlock code and I can start playing the later missions and maybe creating
some of my own as well.

Awesome! When I first tried the game, I didn't think I would get into it.
It just didn't click with me. But, when I played mission 2 and found that I

would be attacked by the destroyer if I wasn't careful, and that I had to
dive for safety, then go and get that darned ship, yeah! I was beginning to

really like it. There was more to the game than just shooting at passing
ships from a stationary point. Once I bought the game, those other 15
missions gave it more replay value, and then I started on those user created

missions! I'm still hooked on that game. Happy subbing!

At Thomas' suggestion I downloaded the demo yesterday, or rather
redownloaded it and spent quite a lot of time on it. Guess it pays to pay
attention to mission briefings! I didn't realize that in Mission 1 you
don't necessarily have to move from your current location to target the
ships. So this morning I was playing it again and, while I managed to take

out a few ships I accidentally collided with a sinking cargo ship. Y'know,

submarines don't like that much LOL. But I decided I liked the game enough

to place an order, so with luck I ought to be receiving my key soon. All I

can say is I'm wondering now why the game never really caught my attention

before. It's proving to be a lot of fun.

Hi,
True, but then I'd have to modify the games to work on mobile phones,
get a compiler for a mobile phone, and should probably have a mobile
phone to test them. At this point I really wasn't thinking of putting a
lot of work into them. Although, I certainly do like the idea of
updating them, make sure the C++ code meets current standards, recompile
them, and release them to the public as freebies.

Pranav Lal wrote:

I say mobile phone since these games are already there for the pc but
there
seem to be very few games for the mobile phone. This also gives you a
cjance to develop for the sighted market since sighted people have visual
constraints thanks to those small screens. grin

Hi ron.

i'd say out of the three main bsc titles, i find blast chamber to be both my
favourite and the one I find most replayable, sinse there are so many
different surprising elements and challenges to master in the game, such as
remembering spider order, timing electricity, not to mention those side
scrollers.

i'd Almost go as far as saying pipe 2 is probably my favourite arcade style
audio game yet.

the only trouble is, my main desktop keyboard is new, and the keys aren't as
comfortably broken in as on my laptop, so hammering those pipes is more
difficult, lol!

Beware the Grue!

dark.

different surprising elements and challenges to master in the game, such as
remembering spider order, timing electricity, not to mention those side
scrollers.

i'd Almost go as far as saying pipe 2 is probably my favourite arcade style
audio game yet.

the only trouble is, my main desktop keyboard is new, and the keys aren't as
comfortably broken in as on my laptop, so hammering those pipes is more
difficult, lol!

Beware the Grue!

dark.
