Re: [MBZ] 124 rear subframe

2020-01-07 Thread Brian Toscano via Mercedes
Yes that's more correct Max... it has been a while since I have done this
and I mis-spoke. Jacking up under each side so there's even pressure gives
you more room to work when you're laying on your back. I want to say I had
a more clever approach to it at the time that was even easier but I can't
seem to recall what it was. I think I was able to tighten everything just
laying on my back under the car. It's far easier to assemble the 5 link
with no load on it outside the vehicle and then tighten for road worthiness
later.

Re: [MBZ] Windows 10 upgrade failed again

2020-01-07 Thread Brian Toscano via Mercedes
Macs are not what they used to be.

Years ago they were light years ahead of Microsoft but over time the two
have converged. Microsoft has gone up and Apple has gone down. I remember
back in 2007 or so using a neighbors printer with my Mac and he said I'd
probably have to install some device drivers, etc. I said I'll probably
just connect the USB cable and hit print and it will print. The printed
pages came out and he was so impressed he bought Macs for his family. This
is why people used to say "Macs just work."

But it's just not the same anymore. I'm sending this email from a
Microsoft Surface Pro 7 running Windows 10... The SSD in my Mac failed
last Monday morning. I tried to recover from Time Machine to an external
drive and it restored but would not boot. Then I tried to upgrade the OS
on the recovery drive I was restoring to so it would be the same version as
the Time Machine, but it would not install because it did not see a factory
SSD. I read of others having similar problems installing or upgrading Mac
OS when the factory SSD drive is not seen.

Windows is not perfect, but its trending better and macOS is trending
down...

I would try a fresh install on an empty hard drive rather than try to
upgrade from Windows 7. Too often the spec sheet says it will work, but
it's just not a great idea even if it manages to work somehow.

Re: [MBZ] 124 rear subframe

2020-01-07 Thread Brian Toscano via Mercedes
When I worked on 124/201 I would assemble the subframe next to the vehicle
and then put it on a transmission jack and roll it into place and secure it
to the unibody, connect driveshaft, and brake lines, etc. The 5-link
suspension can be tightened once it's installed under the vehicle by
jacking up under the differential. Just don't drive it far without getting
an alignment. The key point with any suspension work is to tighten
bushings with the weight of the vehicle on the bushings (NOT with the tires
hanging in the air). Using this method my ride height was within 1 mm of
factory spec according to the dealer's alignment printout. :)

Re: [MBZ] OT - Win10 Va Win 7

2019-12-28 Thread Brian Toscano via Mercedes
Windows 10 is a good bit different than Windows 7. I prefer Windows 10. In
fact, as a Mac user for about 10 years, Windows 10 is the first version of
Windows I find acceptable to use. I am not sure I will purchase another Mac.
I think Microsoft has really stepped up their game and Apple has been lagging
since the passing of Steve Jobs. I just switched to Outlook 2019 after finding
that my 'sent' mail from Apple Mail goes into the 'trash' folder when using
Gmail. I'm sure I could read an article on how to fix this and follow the
steps, but the whole point of Mac was 'it just works' and it just ain't so no
more... Might as well buy a Lenovo or Microsoft laptop with a beautiful touch
screen...

Since she mailed you a fraudulent check, its wire and mail fraud. That’s a
federal crime. Since $1600 - $449 - shipping would likely be > $1,000 loss to

interested. I would contact law enforcement. There are some older people that
fall for this and lose a lot of money. Help someone not be the next victim.

But these ones lawyered up.

Re: [MBZ] Jeep Alternator Brushes?

2013-11-23 Thread Brian Toscano
I opted for the rebuilt unit. Appeared identical. It was challenging to
RR because the alternator is right against the frame rail. The brushes
were very worn. I did see a source of brushes online for $26. I hadn't
yet seen Dans email about Ace hardware. The engine seems quieter now. I
think the alternator may have been the source of an intermittent startup
squeal. I don't believe the belt was loose or needing adjustment. Glad
it's done.

 Subject: [MBZ] Jeep Alternator Brushes?

I'm getting intermittent charging on my 2001 Jeep Cherokee. This behavior
started yesterday. Today it was fine all day until after I started it up
after eating dinner. Then it was around the 9 V and the check gauges
 light
came on. It worked fine the next two starts, but then I stopped for gas
 on

[MBZ] Jeep Alternator Brushes?

2013-11-22 Thread Brian Toscano
I'm getting intermittent charging on my 2001 Jeep Cherokee. This behavior
started yesterday. Today it was fine all day until after I started it up
after eating dinner. Then it was around the 9 V and the check gauges light
came on. It worked fine the next two starts, but then I stopped for gas on
the way home and it low again. Volt meter shows 10.8 V when things aren't
working right. Beat the alternator with a steel drift and it jumped back
to 13.4 V. This is the original alternator, over 30 miles. Does

Re: [MBZ] Jeep Alternator Brushes?

2013-11-22 Thread Brian Toscano
Thanks Gary.

My Dodges with the Cummins had the alternator on the top and the compressor
on the bottom but the Jeep has the opposite. Still looks pretty
straightforward. The challenge will how wet the garage floor is. First
snow of the season.

I was hoping I could take the alternator apart and change something inside
or take it to an alt shop but with 300K maybe best for a reman alt.

i have a 77 le sabre. alternator replacement was under 10 minutes, but as
little as 3 if you hustled. i'd go for the cheapest one napa had back in
they day, knowing that i could warranty it on the spot and replace it
instantly. if it was a more complicated job, i'd go for a higher quality
 unit.

i don't see any kind of removable voltage regulator or anything on the
picture, so an easy swap out might not be in the cards

For removal, chewing up the old one should be no problem. You don't want

The local shop probably has little MBZ experience. I'll make some calls

Now this one I can comment about. Sir Tools may have a nice idea, but
their execution is horrible. I bought one of their injector delivery valve
tools (the ones with all the splines) and had to modify both the tool and
the delivery valve holder to get it to work. In addition, the fit and
finish of their tools is junk. I bought a Hazet tool from someone on the

 Stay away from Sir Tools!

There must be plenty of working type people around you with diesel trucks
and of course all semi-trucks are diesels. If they didn't have cabin heat
people wouldn't use them. You must see the grill blockers around a lot. At
one point Ford made cool (well I thought they were cool) plastic inserts
for the grills on their trucks. This would have been in the '90s when the
grill had big holes. You could put in as many inserts as you needed to keep
the engine warm. Pretty invisible in use unlike a blanket or piece of
 cardboard.

I suspect one big advantage in more recent years is higher temp
thermostats, the engine is producing heat, as long as you're not wasting it
out to the radiator you'll be able to have it in the cab.

The deadline to enroll in the exchange for January 1 is December 15.
You have until the end of March to enroll in the exchange, so it sounds
like you're stuck buying January coverage at a mystery price from Aetna,

 the pricing.

BTW, is there any way to get your current coverage without handing a nice
fat commission to the Democratic party lobbying arm of AARP? Those

The good news is that with Obamacare's ban on age based price

you should be seeing lower prices in the exchange and in your current
plan, if there are any young people in your current plan.

that could do it with any regularity would be something such as the
rolex oysterquartz, which was cut with extreme care.

bulova solved the problem differently. one problem of the quartz watch
is the battery drain as it ticks. the steps are taken in whole seconds
as otherwise you'd be going through batteries too frequently. you have
more inherent accuracy if you take more steps per second, as a
mechanical watch that takes 10 beats per second is inherently more
accurate than one that takes 6. bulova has solved the problem and now
takes multiple steps per second, whether 5 or 8 or whatever it is,
making the 20 to 30 second quartz accurate to within 10 seconds a year.

This is so confused, it's hard to correct each mis-statement.

As Peter said, the heart of a quartz watch is the quartz crystal. You are
correct that this needs to be cut precisely to get good time control.

The quartz crystal typically oscillates at 32,000 times per second. The
electrical output of the oscillator is digitally divided down to one
pulse per second. This drives a stepper motor that moves the second hand.
The minute and hour hands are geared off and moved by the second hand.

You are correct that the second hand could be moved more times per second
for a smaller distance each time but that this would require more battery
power. Watches could also have higher frequency crystals that are more
accurate, but this would require more digital division, which would
 require more power.

 LAKE FERGUSON
 By Wilton Strickland

Our water reservoir at Sondrestrom was Lake Ferguson, a
rectangular-shaped lake visible on Google Earth about a mile and a half
across the Watson River and south of the base. The water was crystal
 clear
and did not get above about 34°F in summer. Whenever I'd stop by for a
visit with the water plant technician, I could look down into the intake
well inside the building built over the lake and see nice fish several
feet beneath the surface. Usually, the only treatment to the water was to
heat it to 56°F before and during the pumping process via an above-ground
pipeline to a pump building with a huge holding tank near the center of
 the
main base. There it was checked regularly (the frequency and type of
checks I don't remember) and treated as necessary with addition of
 chlorine
in accordance with federal standards. The Danish water plant manager told
me that he seldom ever had to add chlorine. Most of this water is ice
 melt
from the Greenland ice cap and Russell Glacier where it has been frozen
 for
thousands of years and is probably one of the best and purest water
supplies in the world. The cold water at the faucets around base was so
cold that I always had to add some hot water to keep the cold water from
 hurting my hands.

Summer recreational activities at the lake worried me somewhat,
though. A rowing club was active at the lake, and occasionally a rower
would briefly go into the water. On July 4th, a traditional
Danish-American Day celebration was also held at the lake and the Rowing
Club house. In addition to the usual July 4th fair of hot dogs,
 hamburgers,
beer, soft drinks, etc., a large part of the traditional celebration was a
football game of sorts between the Danish civilian women and the American
 men. Check the link:
 http://sondrestrom.com/folks.**htmlhttp://sondrestrom.com/folks.html.
Tradition also required that anybody who had not been thrown into the lake
was going into the lake before day's end. Yes, I went into the lake, and
 I
can definitely attest: its temperature does not get above about 34°F, but
 I
never heard that our domestic water supply needed any additional treatment
 because of my dunking.

I've seen folks buff out a car with 3M Imperial Machine Glaze. What is
that best for?

On Mon, Sep 16, 2013 at 6:48 PM, Dan Penoff d...@penoff.com wrote:

I have just been slammed at both work and home the last few days, which
has precluded me from any lengthy responses to your questions. Before I
pass out for the night, I'll tell you what I think:

You need both a polisher and a random orbital buffer. Harbor Freight stuff
works fine for me and has served me well so far. dumping several hundred $$
into these tools that you might use a few times a year is a big waste in my
opinion. You also need a collection of pads and bonnets depending on the
materials you choose and a spur for cleaning pads. You'll spend between
$150-$200 on compounds and chemical, however, you should have plenty left
for future sessions, so the costs will be spread out over a number of
 vehicles.

You saw the highly oxidized finish on the S500, and the results I got
after probably 20 hours of work. If you're willing to dig into the finish
on your car, that's the sort of results that you can expect - BUT - you
can't cut corners, half-ass it, or skip steps.

So let's start after you have wiped the finish down with some clean towels
and IPA cut 50-50 with distilled water:

Step 1.) Ardex 1000 Plus applied using 1-1/2 wool pad on a 7 polisher.
As with any detailing work, start from the top and work down. I like to
divide the panels in halves and make sure I overlap. Work in areas no
larger than 2 x 2. Use plenty of pressure and lighten up as the Ardex
flashes off. When you're done with a panel wipe it down using a clean towel
 and IPA.

Step 2.) Ardex 1500 Plus applied using a Meguire's maroon wool pad and the
same 7 polisher. Use the same approach as Step 1. You should see the haze
start to disappear at this point.

Step 3.) Now you're going to change over to the RA buffer with a yellow
foam cutting pad and Meguire's M105 Ultra Cut compound. Continue with the
 same techniques as previously used.

Step 4.) Again with the RA using a black finishing pad and some Meguire's
 M205 Finishing Polish.

Step 5.) Back to the polisher with a 3M Perfect-It blue polishing pad and
 3M Perfect-It Ultrafine Polish.

Step 6.) Finish it up with some 3M Show Car Wax or my current favorite,
 Collinite 845 Insulator Wax.

This is for a really severe finish. You can start down the line a step or
two if you think the finish isn't that bad and backtrack if you don't get
 the desired results.

The small 4-banger import trucks from the early 90's or earlier are
woefully underpowered for any kind of towing. If you want to lay a sheet

 Subject: [MBZ] OT: Truck

I've decided I want a pick up truck for basic utility. Carrying stuff
around, trips to the home disappointment, etc. And towing around my
 utility
trailer. Overall, it would get used pretty rarely and I'd probably share
 it
with my brother who has the same needs.

Looking to spend under $3000. Doesn't have to be pretty, but should a
basically reliable design. I don't mind doing some work, of course, to
 make
 it reliable.

Problem is I don't know where to start looking. That is, what model to
 look
for and what to avoid. Can anyone offer any experience or suggestions?
  I'd
lean toward a Toyota, but I don't think they're very cheap. Theres lots of
higher mileage Fords and Dodges out there...

A bonus would be something heavy enough to tow a car trailer.

 Anyone have any advice?

 Thanks,
 Jaime

I counted 9 cars including a turbo OM616 powered Chevy van. Buncha people
(more than 9 :) ) and a record number of dogs.

The secret food was my nearly famous dutch oven bbq, this year with
sausage (both sweet and hot) pork and chicken dry rubbed and then cooked
for 3 hours. Strangely nobody got a picture of that, you can get an idea
 from this:
 https://www.youtube.com/watch?**v=GUshllIVSUYhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUshllIVSUYexcept
I did 2 pots, one for spicy and one for non. We also had burgers,
chowda, clamcakes, a world of fruit, veggies and pie for the finish.

I got the opportunity to drive John's Astro van (not a bad ride, it'd be
better if he turned up the IP to support the turbo and move the shifter),
 Steve's immaculate '85 300D and Dimitri's 280SL. Parts were swapped, chowda
 was consumed.

Strange no? Common wisdom seemed to indicate that this was the ignition

the screw is hidden until you take the lock portion out. I won't go into

I *think* my fatal error came when I was troubleshooting the blowing of

With so many apps for free calling it seems harder to manage. Someone
calling on Skype? Google Voice? Your business phone? Cell phone? Text,

Not to mention some people are genuinely hard to hear on Skype or Google
Voice. They will sit away from their computer's microphone sounding far
worse than a speakerphone. And does GV even allow SMS mesages these days?

I don't know, but it seems pretty straighforward to give someone a phone
number. With the advent of unlimted long distance calling, are 800 numbers
even that helpful anymore?

   - ...Soot buildup in the intake. Much like with the 300D 2.5, the EGR
system seems expressly designed to clog the intake manifold with soot,
making the car run rough. Solution is to take it off and soak it out, but
it's harder to do that in the tight space around a transverse engine than
in an M-B. (Especially bad in the Beetle where a third of the engine is
tucked under the dashboard, sort of like a full-size van.)
   - Electrical gremlins. VW has come a long way since the '80s when it
seemed like the circuitry in their cars was constructed from bent
paperclips and bits of chewing-gum wrapper with the shiny side out, but
they still seem to be more likely to have electrical difficulties than a
Japanese or American car of comparable age. Power windows that don't work
are probably an easy fix--IIRC there was a recall for faulty regulators at
some point--but anything more complex or intermittent is a red flag.

LA traffic is probably worse more hours of the day than any other city.

DC has bad rush hour, but so does NYC.

Outside of rush hour you can easily drive into NYC without any major
traffic problems. Of course you might also get caught in a traffic jam at
2AM.

It might seem like a noble thing to say it's the law but let's get real.
It's a slippery slope. Watch the news lately?

You are also clearly stereotyping. On one hand criminalizing people that
are using the system, and on the other criminalizing people who are not
using the system seems a bit hypocritical.

As a business owner who supports and participates in legitimate work visa
sponsorship programs, I can personally tell you that not all people from
all countries have an equal shot at opportunity here. Keep in mind that at
some point, we all came from somewhere else.

I'll also tell you that the only real difference between an immigrant
coming here legally/illegally will come down to how much money is in their
pocket, and if they have access to quality legal counsel. Fair?

Putting the spotlight on, and generalizing on these two groups are part of
the reason this country has such strong ADD, and can never focus on big
issues long enough to see real change.

If you're only looking for your money back, I would just contact the card
issuer and tell them it is a fraudulent charge because you never received
your merchandise. With a credit card there should be an immediate credit
while they investigate and many/most credit card companies offer $0
liability. With a debit card, your liability could be higher and getting a
credit could take longer. I believe with debit cards it is often $50
within 30 days of your statement, $500 within 60 days of your statement,
and after 60 days no credit. This is the minimum set by the government,
your individual financial institution could offer more protection.

The deal with the photoshoot is that this guy takes pics of nekkid people
in various locations communing with nature, and then sells the photos and I
think he has some books or something. They are not untasteful once you get
past some of the nekkid folks who probably shouldn't be, but to each
 his/her own...

They organized the thing for an early Sunday morning, I think the park
was actually open (the site is part of the Parks Dept) and there were a few
people there, to whom they explained what was going to happen so they could
stay or go or whatever. I think someone got upset and went and called the
cops, or maybe the cops had wind of it since so many showed up so quickly.
The po-pos acted fools, basically created a problem where there was none,
or a small one or something. Now the tree is back down a dirt road about a
half mile, in the woods, nothing else visible anywhere but trees, so it's
not like it was out in public even though it was in a public park. But in
the great scheme of things, it was kinda minimal, at least to my view of
things. I think I might have known it was going to happen, and thought
about riding my bike over there (about 10mi from the house, but sometimes I
park over close there to ride on Wadmalaw Island which is just down the
road). I didn't or my friend who organized it (and who did not get nekkid,
she explained it lamely at some point) probably would have made me shuck my
lycra and join in. The other girl in the video I know probably would have
worked on me too (though hanging around would have been pleasant but might
 have had some unseemly results...).

The Angel Oak is the largest tree east of the sequoias in CA, it is not
known how old it is, some say 1400 years, some say maybe a few hundred.
There was a scheme to build a bunch of apartment buildings close by, I
think we have managed to stop that, the developer went bankrupt and I think
the conservation trust people are buying the land to add to the park, so
 that is good.

The tree was a gathering place for a long time for the local blacks, back
when they were slaves then later after the Late Unpleasantness. It has a
spot in the history of Johns Island, and a lot of the old Gullah folk
remember going there as children for picnics and meetings and such, the
white folks sorta left them alone in that regard, out of respect for the
 tree and what it symbolizes.

If any of you are ever in the Charleston area it is definitely worth a
visit, it is a natural treasure for all of us, and quite amazing to see. I
meant to go over there and collect some acorns last fall and never did,
will have to do that this year and plant some in pots to see if I can grow
 some baby angels.

On Thu, Jun 6, 2013 at 3:19 PM, Gerry Archer arche...@embarqmail.comwrote:

 Georgetown Traditions: What's A Hoya?
The origins of the word Hoya defy simple explanation. Over the years,
 some
have claimed it is an Indian word, while those of a legal mind thought it
related to the French word oyez, the traditional opening of judicial
sessions. Still others held that with Georgetown's location along a river,
Hoya might be an offshoot of the nautical ahoy. None of these claims have
 held water, so to speak.
The official explanation holds that there was a baseball team at Georgetown
called the Stonewalls. It is suggested that a student, applying Greek and
Latin, dubbed the team the hoia saxa-- hoia is the Greek neuter plural for
what or what a, while saxa is the Latin neuter plural for rock.
Substituting a y for an i; hoya saxa literally means what rocks.
To this day, however, no one has proven exactly when and under what
circumstances the yell originated. While there was a Stonewalls team
 between
1866 and 1873, an actual reference to the team is pure speculation. Some
have held that hoia saxa referred not to the team but its surroundings--the
team's field (the present site of Copley Lawn) was bounded by the College
Walls along 37th street. One theory holds that words such as saxa (Latin
 for
rocks) were scribbled on the walls for years and a similar phrase may
 have
simply been adopted by fans of the baseball team.
The Hoya yell gained additional attention in 1920. In that year, a
 fledgling
student newspaper known as The Hilltopper petitioned Rev. Coleman Nevils,
S.J., Dean of the College, to change its name to The HOYA, a name said to
 be
more representative of the University. Nevils, who had championed naming
 the
Holy Cross student paper The Hoia without success in 1916,
 enthusiastically approved the change.
As the college paper was often cited by sportswriters covering Georgetown
sports in the 1920's, it took only a few years for a nickname to be born.
 By
the fall of 1928, a HOYA sportswriter began to refer to the football team
 as
the Hoyas rather than its contemporary nickname of the Hilltoppers. The
change was picked up by local writers as basketball season began, and Hoyas
became the official Georgetown nickname within a few years.
Among all college programs, only Georgetown University holds this unique
team nickname to which its students, faculty, alumni, and fans can take
pride in. But the Hoya yell did find its way into the fight songs of two
other Jesuit colleges: Holy Cross' Hoiah, Holy Cross, and Marquette's
Ring Out Ahoya. Each appears to have its roots, however distant, in the
yell begun on a college yard many years ago. In short, Hoya may be
difficult to define, but its tradition endures.

And that's what it's all about.

Bummer.

I buy Snap On for anything I use regularly that's less than 1-1/2.

Snap On 5-27 mm just fits better, better ratchets, and eBay has a steady
supply of Snap On tools. What's the cost of bloody knuckles because the
Craftsman 27 mm keeps falling off the crank damper?

If I'm in a hurry I buy direct, they don't charge shipping.

For hand tools I don't use regularly I may get them from Harbor Freight.

So, in short, if you get a small machine and work it hard be prepared for

Oh, had to tighten up bolts that hold on carb and now muffler bolts are

Would you have not built the bridge in the first place and let people take

and opportunity even with the bridge.

On the M119, there apparently is no place for a pin or something to lock
the pulley like on the M104.

Instead a special tool, 603 589 00 40 00, is slipped over the edge of the
fan pulley and the serpentine belt. The same tool is used for the M119 in
the 124, the 129, and the 140. The M119 in the 210 is different.

The section for the 140 is on page 3 of the attached file.
The special tools are shown on page 4 of the attached file.

Re: [MBZ] OT: Speeding and revenue

2013-05-06 Thread Brian Toscano
Tax laws are made by Congress. Some point to consider are that flat tax
rates such as sales taxes are regressive and hurt the poor. Taxes that
make everyone pay the same overall percentage of income are preferred but
tricky.

For example, the per gallon gas tax is the same for someone living on
minimum wage as they are for a rich person. Therefore the percentage of
income is higher for the minimum wage worker.

Also higher income earners often pay less as a percentage than the middle
class.

Does Mitt Romney contribute 6% of his wages to the social security fund?

So how do I at home troubleshoot a blown headgasket?

Driving to work yesterday my '78 240D started to heat up in heavy
traffic, once I was moving it was okay, I cranked the heat which blew hot
 and got it to work.
At lunch I added maybe a quart of coolant which brought it up to just
below the neck of the radiator.

On the way home the temp started to rise, again in heavy traffic, so I
pulled over and added (fortunately I'd left the cap loose) most of a
gallon(!) of water. I got home but the temp would tend to creep up (slowly)
if I stood still. When I got home I got most of another gallon(!) of water
 into it...

Today Angie went to take it to work and it started to heat up again
after not much distance. In playing with it I find I can put coolant it but
it bubbles right out of the neck of the radiator again.

Playing some more I put my mity-vac on the overflow port, put my palm
(with rubber gloves on) over the fill hole and dragged the radiator down to
10 of Hg which compressed the upper radiator hose good and didn't seem to
leak out other than where it leaked around my hand and around the mity-vac.

As another point I can't get hot air out of the heater...

  I have 2 current theories:

#1. The headgasket is toast. Since the car is fairly rusty this means
the car is toast, its not worth a headgasket.

#2. The thermostat has stuck shut but this doesn't explain coolant
bubbling out of the radiator neck...

No rising oil level, no white plume out the back, no excessive coolant
smell out either the back or in the oil.

Angie wants to buy a diesel Jetta, I don't want that big car payment but
I'm tired of screwing around with cars and I guess if it came down to a
Ford Fiesta I'd prefer the Jetta although I should go drive one before I
 say that.

When I bought a new VW Jetta TDI in 2000 it was a very good experience
also. I had worked up the numbers I thought would be a reasonable
discount. The first offer from the dealer was even lower than that so I
just said there somewhat dumbfounded and asked for some more off that. The
salesman said, we can do that. Done deal. I wrote them a check and they
let me drive the car away.

I bought it was diesel was $2.00/gallon (cough, cough) and another dealer
was saying nobody would buy a diesel when its this high.

Worn spindles and bearings could also be suspect. Rotating parts are more
likely to cause vibrations than non-rotating parts. Worn front ends are
more likely to cause irregular tire wear.

My vote is something loose that is not keeping the wheel stable,
perhaps allowing it to wiggle our bounce and thus induce uneven wear
into the tire that sets it in more permanently. Loose parts, worn
shocks, etc. This assumes, of course, that each time (with new tires)
it starts out acceptable and gets worse prematurely. Bum tires is, of
 course, #1 on the list.
