AVG Virus checker and TB
I have only just joined the list. I have downloaded avgbat9us.exe but cannot get it to work. I keep getting the message that my version (1.62) of TB is obsolete and I need version 1.60 or later. Can anyone suggest a solution to this problem? Thank you, Hilton M Current version is 1.61 | Using TBUDL information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Scanner and the Bat
Hello Batters, I have recently bought a Visioneer 8700 scanner with one touch e-mail control. Only thing is, it doesn't see the bat as the e-mail client. About TB ON XP *freezing*

Is anyone else experiencing the system halts? Any one have any idea what might be causing it? I've spent more than an hour and a half only to end up restoring a profile I backed up yesterday. I think it might be something with either certain mail or the amount of mail I get. Maybe its filters but It is almost impossible to find out when once it begins to halt the system I am left with no choice but imminent shut down. Please any ideas are gladly looked into as I really, really want The Bat! as my e-mail client and will gladly pay the small fee (well worth it) but not worth the problems. Setup
Hello all, I have a configuration question. I am using version 1.6 of the bat. I obtained my copy through Abacus Law (legal program). They have added a feature that ties in my cases with the matters. It allows the users to send emails to folders (Common Folders) associated with each case. However, in order for this to work, I had to set up all email accounts to use the same location to store everyone's account directories on a server. This works fine, but a few of us that use laptops are left without email when we are off line. Can anyone recommend an alternative configuration? Re[2]: About TB ON XP *freezing*
Hello Allie, ACM It takes something more fundamental to interfere with XP's ACM stability... I agree. XP is the most solid version of Windows I've ever played with and I've been playing with Windows since 95. ACM If XP is freezing, I don't think this has anything to do with TB!. I can prove it's The Bat! and not because it's the newest app on my system but because right after boot-up the very first app I go to launch is The Bat! It seemed to freeze up on retrieving my mail and about an hour ago I had to hard boot my PC 15 + times before restoring an old back-up made it work again. Plus, I've owned XP for just over 8 months and I never hard booted my PC like this ever. ACM How old is your system and does it misbehave in any ACM other way and with any other apps? Never. This is the first time I've ever experienced it and my system though it's about 8 months old it's specs more than meet the requirements. ACM If you wait long enough after the freezing, do you get a blue ACM screen. Do you have to reboot to regain control of your system? It doesn't freeze unless I have the task manager open. What happens is the system slows down to the point where if I were to do a figure 8 with the mouse on the screen in one second the system will still be doing that figure 8 for the next two minutes. ACM I was blaming IE for my ailing XP system since the BSOD's would ACM occur mainly while browsing. However, I soon found out it was a ACM problem with the system BIOS and video drivers. I checked with Windows update and notice I am behind one critical, 3 regular updates. I will check with SONY about any updates for my PC A.S.A.P. ACM I'd look in that direction rather than blame TB!. I really have no choice. I performed a system reformat, repartition less than a month ago and every app on my system runs in pristine mode. I am a real freak in making sure my system is in top notch mode free of errors. Besides, today the system halted only while dealing with The Bat! Funny thing is yesterday it ran all night after rebuilding my profile and installing the newest version 1.62. the only thing I did that was odd today was restarted the PC while TB was still running. Is it possible something was still running? I don't know :( -- Best regards, Victor B. The only thing I can think of is to run separate installations of TB!, i.e., one that uses the central server working mail directory, and the other that uses a local working mail directory. However, this is an awkward one especially since TB!'s basic configuration is in the registry, and as a result you can only run a single installation per user. The only thing I can recommend is to install another copy of TB! on the laptop as another user, i.e., create a new user account, log-on as the new user, then install TB!. Recreate the accounts as in the central installation, close TB!, copy all mail bases over from the central installation, restart TB! and then do a CTRL+ALT+Shift+L to make TB! find all the folders. Now, when you're finished using the TB! with the central working directory, for the day, synchronize all mail from the server with that of the local installation. You could use a file manager to do this synchronisation. Done. When at home, run the local installation. BTW, though both are installed in separate user spaces, you could run both from the same user space by creating a special shortcut that prompts you for the user credentials. This is the case for Win2k and XP. I don't know about Win9x. This all takes some setting up but could be made to work so if you need any clarification, please ask. -- -=] Allie C Martin [=- {List Moderator} MUA: TB! v1.62 Christmas Edition ___ OS: WinXP Pro (SP1) Current version is 1.61 | Using TBUDL information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Re: Lost the Ability to Display Messages in My INBOX!
PS HELP! PS I had two sudden power outages this afternoon. Now I can see all my PS messages EXCEPT for those in my Inbox. The Unread/Totals are shown and PS there are two files in my Inbox folder, but as I said above, The PS Bat! won't display the messages and the Export box is greyed out. PS Is there ANYTHING I can do to fix this? Out of desparation, I decided what would happen if I just moved the index file out of the Inbox folder? Well, as soon as I did that, I guess The Bat! re-indexed the Inbox message base and all is back to normal. Is that the usual recovery method? Hello Allie, Not again sigh Yes, again. Can't help it. I hate to see how people (not only moderators) jump on newbies on their very first message or reply because of top posting or lack of signature delimiters with arguments of redundancy and bandwidth saving, while many (quite a lot) of messages repeat in the body the Subject, Date (in several places around the world), message ID, etc.,etc. And to that, add a number of header lines, not at all necessary, that are included in *every* message. And this time I will not say anything about PGP signatures, but yes about those who are starting to use both PGP and S/MIME signatures. So go ahead and keep jumping on newbies, but please be honest and don't use the redundancy and bandwidth arguments. -- Best regards, Miguel A. Re[2]: pgp 8
t is there a plugin for pgp 8? will there ever be such a plugin? To continue on from Peter's post: Until the time - if ever there is one - that a PGP 8.0 plugin becomes available you could of course use PGP 6.58 CKT, which is completely free, has a plugin for The Bat!, and works flawlessly with it! And 6.58 ckt is compatible with W2K and WXP (Thanks Allie ;-) ). Where can I get version 6.58? pgp.com only has v8 available for download. Moving to New Messages
I'm a newbie to the program. I'm very impressed so far. However, I must be missing some basic command for this. How do I move from one message to the next *even if* the next new message is in another account. I have several e-mail accounts, and I don't want to use the mouse if I don't have to. Yeah. Sounds like you're CPU resources are completely consumed by some errant process. I think so too. Now the question is to find out which process that is. Victor, can you check memory usage before starting TB and then again when the sluggish behaviour starts? Which app or process is using the resources? (If you wait until it is all bad, you might not be able to use the memory tool any more.) Just an idea. -- Cheers, Thomas. Moderator der deutschen The Bat! Beginner Liste. Re: Lost the Ability to Display Messages in My INBOX!
Hello Marck, MDP The recommended fix is to exit TB, delete the messages.tbi file (NB, MDP *not* the tbb file) and reload TB. The TBI file is the index file MDP and will be automatically rebuilt from the TBB contents when it MDP turns up missing. Thanks. I guess I must have received the above info directly from your brain. g Paul Current version is 1.61 | Using TBUDL information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

It would be unreasonable and ridiculous if as moderators, we were to proceed to demand that all members post in a particular way to completely remove what may be deemed as redundant material. We try to maintain fairness and objectivity. If someone wishes to use a colourful introduction or detailed introduction it's really up to them. Same for the signature, though there are guidelines for those as well, for example the 6 line limit for signatures. However, two things are really unnecessary in the context of a discussion list and there's really no good reason for them. One is overquoting and the other is not using a signature delimiter. In the context of a busy e-mail discussion list, how can one defend doing either of these two things. Who stands to benefit from it. There's no entertainment as with a cookie in the signature. No time zones to inform those who may be interested etc. It's just unnecessary. Overquoting *does* impact on bandwidth so I *am* being honest. Top posting encourages over-quoting and also makes it difficult for many of the more helpful members to understand the flow of a discussion since perceiving context can be a tedious process when a reply is formatted in such a fashion. There has been so much public agreement on this point that we've been asking new comers to change. This is actually in their interest as well. /moderator -- -=] Allie C Martin [=- {List Moderator} MUA: TB! v1.62 Christmas Edition ___ OS: WinXP Pro (SP1) Current version is 1.61 | Using TBUDL information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

If you are reading mails in folder view, you close that window by hitting esc. In the main TB window, you move around the three panes by hitting tab. I have full-height account tree, message list, and preview pane. If you set-up is different, the principle should still hold. Hit tab until you are in the account tree pane. The folder you were previously working in will be highlighted. Use the arrow keys to navigate up or down. I don't know about a jump to next account keyboard shortcut. -- Cheers, Thomas.
