Bill,
Thanks Bill. I was very impressed by this glimpse into what looks
like a wonderful clear lifestyle. BTW, you have truly exceptional
eyes! If anyone here wants to see what true Zen looks like just take
a look at Bill's eyes.

Agreed Edgar!
I know I "wasted" much time and energy on counting breaths for

Hi Chris, The Sixth Patriarch's school is called the school of instant

Hi Chris,
I agree whatever works, but given ordinary human nature it is very
easy to get lost in particular disciplines (or lack of them) on the
way. Better to just cut through the illusion and realize you are
already there and always have been.

Thank you, JMJM.
That is exactly what I was looking for. I see lots of postings about

Yes, JMJM, but doesn't your school rely heavily on the Buddha's
teachings to come to this realization? Under whose influence do you
connect to the universal life force? Who designed the principals
that you follow?

Edgar,
Isn't that the ultimate goal? Isn't "directly experiencing
what is real" enlightenment? So Zen = Enlightenment? IMHO Zen is
the pathway to enlightenment.

No 'transmission' of Zen is possible. You can't transmit direct
experience of reality from one person to another. It's just a matter
of opening one's own eyes. A teacher or whatever may help trigger
such an awakening, but that is not 'transmission'.
As I've said before the only thing that i
Great explanation Bill. I always understood zen to be the following.
A special transmission outside the scriptures;
No dependence upon words and letters;
Direct pointing to the human mind;
Seeing into one's own nature and attaining Buddhahood.
These 4 lines are what attracted me to zen. It is
Right on, Brother Bill. Anything written down, spoken about are just
forms to describe a direct "connection" to the universal life force and
wisdom.

Mike and Chris,
In my view Zen is simply directly experiencing what is real. All else
is just window dressing and fluff, useful perhaps on the way to Zen,
but intrinsically irrelevant.
