[Zappa-List] New hot-poop on Zappateers & DimeaDozen!

2005-05-08 Thread Danny ODare
Meander off to Zappateers and get yourself a dose of my new
upload/seed, "Blood on the canvas" - unaired radio play by FZ & Eric
Bogosian (UMRK 1986). Then go to DimeaDozen and treat yourself to
"Thing-Fish - Demos and More Demos (Deluxe Version)", which I
co-produced with my esteemed colleague, itsonlytony. Features stunning
NEW artwork!

here's the blub for "Blood":

itsonly pseudo-productions proudly presents Volume 6 of its impossibly
ambitious (but eminently achievable) 300+ release schedule! Ladies and
gentlemen, for your singin' & dancin' pleasure:

"Blood on the canvas" - Eric Bogosian & Frank Zappa

Recorded at UMRK 1986 - Museum of Modern Art - withdrawn/unbroadcasted.

Eric Bogosian - words & performance
FZ - music & production

??>Sony FX (Type 1) 90mins cassette>CD WAVE>FLAC Frontend

Next scheduled release:

"FZ - Pittsburgh, Stanley Theatre 13-Nov-1980 (early show)

(always subject to change - whether for scientific or whimsical reasons)

Back catalogue:

Volume 1 - "FZ - Madison 11-Aug-1984"
Volume 2 - "FZ - A Feast of Friends" (KMPC Radio 8-Jan-1989 w/Alan Ladd)
Volume 3 - "Tommy Mars Interview" 20-April-1996 w/Juha Ramppanen
Volume 4 - "Dick Barber Interview" 9-Feb-1990 w/Bruce Burnett
(Clairmont 9-Feb-1990)
Volume 5 - "Ray Collins Interview" December 1989 (Venice Beach, C.A.)

Note: naturally, as the itsonly production team grows in artistic and
technical competency/confidence - and blossom into deeply spiritual
human beings - they will intermittenly re-seed 'improved' versions of
their mighty back catalogue. Requests always taken. We respond to
enthusiasm. We even accept fan mail.

All our productions are horribly conceived, spawned, hatched, mutated
& cloned at our state-of-the-art Frunobulax Hissing' Laboratories
(beware the rabid guard dogs)

AND HERE IS THE BLURB FOR "THING-FISH - DEMOS":

Bursting with pride, we hereby unleash upon the (mainly) unsuspecting
world the follow-up to our DimeaDozen hit single (with a bullet),
"Thing-Fish - The Real Tapes". Yes, ladies and gentlemen, for your
singin' and dancing'
pleasure, gaze in awe-struck wonder upon:

"Frank Zappa - The Thing-Fish Demos (Deluxe Version)"

1.Prologue
2.Mammy nuns
3.Harry and Rhonda
4.Torchum never stops (fade out)
5.You are what you is
6.Mudd club
7.The meek shall inherit nothing
8.Dumb all over
9.Heavenly bank account

1.Teenage Wind
2.Suicide Chump
3.Jumbo go away
4.Drafted
5.I dont want to get Drafted
6.Massive Improve'lent
7.Artificial Rhonda
8.Instromental
9.No not now
10.Briefcase boogie(Eee Ooo)
11.Brown Moses
12.Drop Dead
13Wonton on
14.Galoot updatum
15.Torchum never stops
16?

...

Fundamentally, the "Deluxe Version" is a souped-up re-issue of the
'official' unofficial 2-cd bootleg release, "Thing-Fish Demos"
(released in
2004 - under the rubric, Zipperman Demos Series Vol. 3). Our version
is jam-packed (well, packed) with extra tracks and phenomenal NEW
(yes, new) artwork - the likes of which have never been seen before,
and may well be never seen again (especially if the
Jesus/Yahweh/Allah/Vishnu-loving Thought Police get their way). So,
even MORE for your non-money - are you a luck person or what?
The stinking blurb that accompanies the evil commercial bootleg reads:
"The complete Thing-Fish in an early demo plus 1981 Chalk Pie studio
demos" (now please leave your cash on the table). However, our
Chalk-less version contains some extra tracks that do not appear on
the 'official' "Thing-Fish Demos" bootleg, as we also had in our
sweaty clutches a cassette (21mins
long) entitled, "More Demos", containing four tracks - now included in
our Deluxe version and no doubt running through your startled ears
right now.
Additionally, our track titles differ ever so slightly from the
bootleg's - though we are almost certain that they are indeed the very
same tracks.
Still, judge for yourselves, fellow Zappaoholics!
Now, do yourself a favour and download this hot poop, and make sure it
rockets up the DimeaDozen charts (with a bullet). I mean, who wants
that turkey, Carlos Santana, to be king of the hit parade? Also, as a
cynical incentive to rig the charts (in the very best pop/ugly radio
tradition, of course), there is a free beer with every download - OK?
Just like in our previous production (which you've already got,
right?), we include the front cover of the original bootleg release -
so you can contrast its wretchedness (though its alright) with the
glory that is our brand new artwork, commissioned solely for this
breath-taking project.
Absolutely nothing wrong in blowing your own shiny trumpet and
reveling in your own genius, we say. Then again, the blushing artist
is now at the mercy of this writer, so he'll have to live with his
fame (don't worry, Leonardo - it will become a way of life).
For all you sensible people who downloaded, "Thing-Fish - The Real
Tapes", believe us when we say you NEED this as well - not only do you
get to hear loads

[Zappa-List] Re: Fab new stuff on Zappateers & DimeaDozen!

2005-05-02 Thread Danny ODare
Hi there! Mark - or is it Andrew? - writes: "He's not kidding. That
Tommy Mars shit was killer.
Mark".

Does that mean you like it?!? ( remember, I am a simple country boy
from rural South Devon, UK, with no real understanding of
sophisticated city-townie-folk talk).

Mysteriously, one guy on the Zappeteers site heavily implied that my
torrents are (quote): "Snooorr". (presumably,
he was implying that what I had uploaded was really boring, and I
should not bother doing anymore).

Now, should I get upset or not?!?

Deeply sensitive (but ultimately indifferent),

Danny

[Zappa-List] Fab new stuff on Zappateers & DimeaDozen!

2005-05-02 Thread Danny ODare
Hello musiceteers!

Wonder off to Zappateers and get your hands on "Tommy Mars Interview
1996" & "Dick Barber Interview 1990" - you know it's worth it (and
also "Madison 11-Aug-1984" and "A Feast of Friends 1989", if you
somehow missed them).

Then trunder along to DimeaDozen and feast your eyes on "Thing-Fish -
The Real Tapes", which I co-produced with my good colleague,
itsonlytony. Though I say so myself, the new artwork we did is pretty
freakin' good.

toodle-pip, what-what,

Hi freaks! (and normal people as well)

I have posted the above concert on DimeaDozen - it's the full show, no
nonsense, so make sure you get on the bus before it drives off. My
first every 'proper' torrent!

Naturally, for all those sad, lonely, socially isolated, possibly
alienated, individuals who do not have access to broadband (hence
torrenting), I will be happy to send you CD-R copies by snail-mail.

cheers,

(still looking forward to the Roxy DVD, no matter what)

I deleted the torrent and started again - but still no luck! So, I'm

fine - "upload successful" message and all that - but I don't know how

Hi there freaks!
I've semi-succeded in uploading a torrent to Zappateers - "Carolina

2005-04-23 Thread Danny ODare

Hi Milhouse!
I've got some FLAC files on my hard drive (downloaded from either
Zappateers or EasyTree) and and I want to burn them onto a CD-R, so I
can play them on my portable stereo. Nero just automatically
'converts' (or decompresses them) FLAC to WAV when you go to burn them
- BAO is supposed to do the same. But I cannot make it do that, even
though it is supposed to!
This is my dilemma,
cheers,
Danny

Hi Jim!
Thanks for advice - studying now.
Also, I'm having problems burning FLAC files with Burn At Once - well,
I just can't do it, so at the moment I'm forced back to using
crappy(ish) old Nero. You are supposed to be able to 'directly' burn

[Zappa-List] EAC advice needed - problems extracting one track!

2005-04-21 Thread Danny ODare

Hi guys & gals - here is a copy of the message I've just posted over
at Zappateers. I'm planning (well, hoping!) to upload Madison
11-Aug-84 (2-CDs - original source) as a torrent, but I just cannot
get 'Easy Meat' (real nice version as well) to extract properly - all
the other tracks are fine. Very frustrating!
cheers,
Danny

Hi guys & gals!

I'm trying to upload my first ever torrent (Madison 11-8-84) to
Zappateers & DimeaDozen, but I'm having problems extracting the last
track (No14 - "Easy Meat) from the first disc - I keep getting errors,
"suspicious positions" warnings and so on. However, this is the first
time I've ever used Exact Audio Copy, so I don't really know the
'tricks of the trade' yet. Yes, I've extensively cleaned the offending
disc and tweakes some of the settings ('burst enable', for instance),
but still no joy. Needless to say, it plays perfectly fine, just will
not extract. Any advice?

Once I sort this out, I'm planning to upload some Mike Keneally shows
and a really good 90min radio interview with FZ, entitled - "Broadway
the Hardway explained and more' on a 'Feast of Friends' show KMPC
8-1-89 (w/Alan Ladd). I do not recall seeing this one doing the rounds
either on Zappateers or EasyTree/DimeaDozen.

If, for any reason, you do not think it would be advisable to upload
the content listed above, please let me know - as I said before, I am
a newbie to all this Torrenting/Uploading/Seeding (etc) stuff.

Also, what program would you recommend for 'digitalising' my FZ audio
cassettes - SoundForge, Nero Wave/sound Editor, CD Wave, WaveLab or
Adobe Audition? I must admit, I don't have a clue about how to do it,
so all tips & sagely advice gratefully accepted!!

cheers,

itsonlydanny

p.s. I include the draft text/blurb that comes with my putative
Madison '84 upload:

"This is my first ever torrent upload, so be gentle with me - you know
what it is like when you lose your cherry! Obviously, as this is my
first bash, it will (in all probablity) be quite amateurish, but you
live and learn, I suppose.

I didn't choose this recording for any great particular reason, except
that I don't recall seeing it floating around Zappateers/EasyTree
recently - though of course I could be completely wong about that!

Not much to say about the lineage of this recording, apart from the
fact that it came to me as the "Moustache Over Madison" 2-cd bootleg
(my mate bought it for a lot of money!!).

I haven't done any of that fancy editing stuff, as the original discs
sounded fine to me - though some of the hard-core veterans might
disagree! In the future I might edit/polish any Zappa stuff I upload,
probably using either SoundForge v7 or Steinberg's WavLab (or maybe
Nero Sound/wave editor). Naturally, I do not have a clue at the moment
as to how to use these programs, but I'll learn no doubt.

I plan to uploads shed-loads of FZ material. I've been meaning to do
it for ages, but just somehow never found the time. For instance, at
the moment, I've got about three boxes of FZ audio cassettes lurking
on the backstairs, most of which I've never found the time to listen
to, let alone transfer/digitalise/torrentise ...

Let the torrent (stupid pun intended) begin!

All friendly and constructive advise will be gratefully accepted - and
anything else will be politely, but sternly, ignored! Contact me at
either: "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" OR "[EMAIL PROTECTED]".

Oh yes, the technical info and track listings - of which the latter,
naturally, I've lazily cut-and-pasted from Jon Naurin's show list, and
amended where appropriate.

Re: [Zappa-List] Zappa-4-President!

2005-01-03 Thread Danny ODare

A fairly good point!

It just proves that ANYBODY residing in the USA (after, say, a 'tokenistic'-adminstrative period of 3 months or so) SHOULD have the right to stand for president, and that 'criminal records' should have ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with it. But, having said that, in the REAL WORLD of course, if you want to stand for president you have to be WELL-MONIED, and, more than that, you need to have CONNECTIONS with either the Democratic Party or the Republican Party. Period. Hence the failure of the monstrously reactionary BILLIONAIRE Russ Perot (regretably, FZ made overtures to such a monster), because he couldn't cut the the mustard - too much of an 'outsider' (as Hitler was of course, for a certain period).

Boy, is the system sowed-up or what ...

DANNY Christoffer Heggem <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:
Well, I just read, -and have read before-, that the only thing that hindered Zappa from running for president in 1991, was his health difficulties. [Zappa-List] Vine re-offer - received Wild Man Fisher and Barcelona '88 DVD

2005-01-02 Thread Danny ODare

Hello freakies,

Received the other day:

Barcelona 88 DVD
"An Evening with Wild Man Fisher" 2-cd

Why anybody would want to listen to a Beatles or Rolling Stones album when they can listen to Wild Man Fisher is beyond me ...

Also, if anybody is interested, downloaded the latest "Friday show" from KUR, St Paul 1974. Also, now got 6-cd solo set, "Imaginary Guitar Notes" (on ONE disc as MP3s), from GenieNitro (aka Steve Somebody) of KUR. If anybody's interested I can do a trade or something, as I'm 'obliged' to vine/reoffer it to the KUR chappies (or maybe a twin vine, I don't know, I leave that to the lawyers in the group to decide ...).

Also, if Ken W is reading this, thanks to the festive 'bottleneck', I'm a tad behind on my copying/burning duties, but you should get your stuff soon!

cheers,

DANNY

[Zappa-List] Re: 31 Mar 79 Munich vine

2005-01-02 Thread Danny ODare

Hi there!
I've just noticed the list activity chat. No comment!
I started the vine below. The Munich '79 my mate downloaded from EasyTree, put it on two discs, and gave then to me. Then i started the vine, in the spirit of generosity and deep love for my fellow man and woman (I know, I know, call me idealistic ...). Anyway, I just copied the two discs, so I couldn't have put the 'two second' gap in by mistake (which can be done, of course, relatively easily!!), as the 'original' was 'gapless'.
The Austin '73 was an 'extra' or 'gift' disc that came with something else (a vine to pass on). Naturally, I cannot remember who sent it or what the 'attached' vine was! However, it sounded perfect to me, no gaps, and I just copied it.
If that helps in anyway to help dispel the confusion, great! If not, oh well, never mid, no problem ...
Festive greetings,

DANNY

Hi Danny,

Maybe you've seen the list activity today, but I got this show from you and sent it to Scott, who has noticed 2 second gaps.  I checked my copies and they are there, although I am at a loss to explain how I overlooked it.  I guess my question is this:  did you get the discs you sent me from another person, or were they copies?  If there were from another viner, then we all have the same problem.  If you can help us out, that's be great.  We're just trying to backtrack to solve the problem.

thanks,
Joseph

Hello everyone,

With much thanks to Danny O'Dare, I now have these two shows to pass on to the first person to contact me offlist with the usual promise to reoffer.  The Munich show IS NOT the one from 1980 which has been circulating here, but is  a nice recording of the large band Frank had at the time.  The Austin show sounds fantastic, and of course, so does the band.

get in touch,

[Zappa-List] Slightly off-topic(ish) vine offer - Holdsworth '89

2004-12-25 Thread Danny ODare

Hi there!

I've got an "off topic" (ish) vine offer (apologies, Mr Moderator!), but what the heck, it almost counts, seeing it has Vinnie C in it:

Allan Holdsworth, Miami ??/??/89
(only 38min, but quality not quantity, right?)

I've also got Wichita (where?!?) State University April-11-1980 (courtesy of KUR), but that is going first to Ken 'jazz is not dead' Weston.

Re: [Zappa-List] FZ on Crossfire at viralvideo

2004-12-21 Thread Danny ODare

Then you obviously do not have the faintest idea what "fascist" means ... take a ride in your time machine and try living in Hitler's Germany and Mussolini's Italy. What is the point of hyperpole? It just makes your argument look riddiculous. What's wrong with the truth - that the Reagain adminstration was a deeply rightist reactionary one, like others. I think it is best to stress the essential continuity of the various US adminstrations - within reason, with caveats, qualifiications, etc - than to disproportionately demonise this or that president. Look at JFK, so-called 'liberal' or 'progressive' - escalated in a qualitatively fashion the war in Vietnam, aggreesive belligerency in Cuba and other parts of Latin America, authorised extensive CIA/FBI spying operations on Martin Luther King (etc), links with Mafia/organised crime, probably had some part in fixing the 1961 election with Nixon (mysterious disappearance of ballot boxes, etc), all
sorts of personal mendacities and venealities, and so on.
I mean, guys, let's get real now ...

[Zappa-List] Interview set details (again!) and Bit Torrent opening ports details (again!)

2004-12-20 Thread Danny ODare

Hi there freaks and mummy-lovers!

Some time ago (well, it wasn't that long ago, actually) someone (I think it was Big Jim L) posted details about the mega-interview set (16 volumes?) that appeared on Sharing The Groove (RIP). Any chance of those details appearing again, especially as I am lurking suspiciously around FZ forums (mainly KUR), trying to track down-and-gather this tasty sounding item.
Also, someone (once again, I think it was Big Jim L) offered some advice/details on how to open up certain ports to increase the rate of Bit Torrenting, something about going to "folder options", finding Bit Torrent, then ... ? I am quite a busy EasyTree user at the moment, so any 'efficency' gainings would be much appreciated.

-I don't think there was an EMI Joe's Garage CD. You might be thinking of YAWYI or Sheik  Yerbouti. That said, I think the old Ryko CD version of JG and the '95 are the same. The remastering doesn't render it noticeably different or better than the older versions.

Re: [Zappa-List] FZ on Crossfire at viralvideo

2004-12-19 Thread Danny ODare

I don't FZ himself really knew! Also, clearly, the Reagan adminsitration was never "fascist", just unpleasantly rightwing and reactionary. But seeing how FZ had ruled out - for one reason or another - any sort of left-wing/socialistic perspective, he was political in limbo, or stuck: hence his "practical conservatism" formulation, which, as far as I can make out, amounts to a defence of 'small business' against 'big business and a yearning for tax-cuts. Not particularly inspiring! I've often thought that FZ's obvious political intelligence was wasted a bit, with only a ill-defined and vague 'libertarianism' to sustain it ... oh well, thought for the day over!

cheers,

[Zappa-List] New Vines - roll up, roll up!

2004-11-19 Thread Danny ODare

Hi there freaks (and normal people as well) !!

I have the following vines/stuff for graps:

Cobo Hall, Detroit 25-Nov-1981 2-cds
Paris 26-Oct-1968 1-cd
Paulley Pavillion 8-7-1971 2-cds
Paris 2-24-79

Also, time to beg and hear my plea. I really want a copy of the "Music is the best: 26 years of conceptual continuty" 8-cd boot set - as my Xmas present to myself (I know that Santa himself/hersel/itself won't bring it, as he is more into AOR). However, I cannot find it on EasyTree and seeing how ShareTheGroove has bit the dust ...
I also wouldn't mind a copy of the "Son of Lost Solos/Return/Grandson ... of lost solos" 3-cd set.

So, if anyone of you gals & gals can help me out and ease my pain, that would be splendid.

cheers,

Danny

[Zappa-List] "Always look on the bright side of life ..."

2004-11-02 Thread Danny ODare

And the state of play is:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/3976909.stm

Yep, in many ways, we have a re-run of the 2000 election, except this time - so it appears - Bush will secure the popular vote by a couple of million. The increased number of voters seems to have benefited Bush rather than Kerry, with Bush being able to mobilise the religious/fundamentalist vote (apparently, some 4 million religious fruit-cakes votes were not 'utilised' in 2000, they just stayed at home and prayed, wrestled with snakes, talked in tongues, or whatever these sort of people do - quite a lot of Amish, etc, voted for Bush this time round).

Still, look on the bright side - at least one of them lost!

cheerful post-election salutations,

[Zappa-List] Elections results freak out!!

2004-11-02 Thread Danny ODare

STOP PRESS!! *** STOP PRESS!! *** STOP PRESS!!***STOP PRESS!! *** STOP PR

On-the-make journalist reports:

"In a sensational, freak result Mr Ralph Nader was the victor of the 2004 US presidential elections, securing the biggest share of the popular vote. You can be sure that for decades psephologists will be examining and puzzling over this aberrant vote, which saw the anti-Nader vote neatly split two ways between Mr Bush and Mr Kerry. Ironically, during the build-up to the election Mr Kerry had been severely criticised for announcing his candidature, the fear being that he would split the anti-Bush vote. However, history turned out different.

"Even more remarkable, Mr Bush graciously agreed to stand-down in favour of Mr Nader, despite the fact that the Republican Party managed to win every single state under the electoral college system, and the fact that Osama Bin-Laden despatched an immediate video message expressing his satisfaction with the presidential election results. This unexpected decision was thought to be at least partly due to the constant harassment of the radical documentary-maker, Mr Michael Moore, who promised to follow Mr Bush day and night, wherever he went, with a camera team. Shortly after 'congratulating' Mr Nader through gritted teeth, live on NBC, Mr Bush - believe that the mikes and cameras had been turned off - was heard to mutter, 'What the goddamned hell happened to our voter suppression operation?'.

"Mr Nader's first official, presidential declaration was that Frank Zappa musical appreciation classes were to be made compulsory in all schools - with perhaps a bit of Captain Beefheart and Edgar Varese thrown in for good measure. This decision provoked the Southern Republican senator, Mr Duke Newt Hazard, to declare that Mr Nader was planning to 'inflict the devil's music on our young and vulnerable', adding: 'Nader's despotic, communist-homosexualist agenda poses a mortal threat to the moral and spiritual fibre of the American people, if not world civilisation itself'. Prayers will be held non-stop in a bid to sabotage Mr Nader's Frank Zappa Appreciation Act, and reactionary, semi-senile senators  have pledged to filibuster the Act out of existence.

Kerry, maybe, has a veneer of education at very expensive fee-paying colleges, but this is strictly of the straight-laced think-as-you-are-told to variety. Surely, almost by definition - he cannot know how to "think" (even if he can speak French!!) because he is a 100% creature of the establishment, therefore fully accepts received opinion/prejudices, and is fully committed to the patriotic maintenance of the American military-business-industrial complex. Take his alarming views on Iraq and the 'war against terrorism', virtually to the right of Bush.

Grim times indeed,

My money would be on a Bush and Edwards administration.  Read on:WASHINGTON -- If the presidential election is as close as many expect it to be and neither President George W. Bush or Democratic presidential nominee John F. Kerry can earn the 270 electoral votes to be elected president, then the U.S. House of Representatives would be called on to choose the winner. The 12th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which was ratified in 1804 in response to the 1801 presidential election when Thomas Jefferson failed to receive an electoral majority, gives the House the responsibility of choosing the president, while the U.S. Senate picks the vice president.Only two times in U.S. history has this happened. The House chose John Quincy Adams instead of Andrew Jackson in 1825 because several third-party candidates sifted electoral votes away from them. In 1837, the Senate was asked to choose the vice president
after a disputed race before the time that political parties ran on the same ticket. While this scenario is certainly not probable, it is quite possible considering the closeness of the candidates this year. The new president and vice president would be chosen by a joint session of the House and Senate on January 6, 2005 when they officially count the electoral votes for each candidate. If neither candidate receives 270 votes, then Bush would likely be reelected since control of the House is solidly with Republicans. Each of the fifty states receives one vote as prescribed by the 12th Amendment and Republicans have a majority delegation in 30 of those states.Yet, the only way this procedure would be needed is if the Electoral College is split 269-269 if an elector switches their vote or abstains. A Republican West Virginia elector has already vowed to switch his vote if Bush wins his state.Additionally,
Colorado's ballot initiative that would split that state's electoral votes rather than the usual winner-take-all for the winner of the popular vote could play a role in making the presidential race tighter than expected. Finally, if the Democrats regain control of the U.S. Senate in next week's elections, then they would probably choose Democratic vice presidential nominee John Edwards to join Bush in the executive branch._Check out Election 2004 for up-to-date election news, plus voter tools and more! http://special.msn.com/msn/election2004.armx Yahoo! Re: [Zappa-List] FW: Republican View of Bush Administration I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS!!

2004-11-01 Thread Danny ODare

Definitely "interesting"! Though it is very important not to fall for the 'Bush is not a real conservative' type line. Oh, yes he is - a geneuine, 100%, 24-carat reactionary/conservative/rightwinger!!! Otherwise, if not careful, you might fall for the illusion that the answer lies in a supposed 'real' conservatism, which is then falsely counterposed to 'unreal' or 'radical' conservatism. Dangerous path ...

yes, yes, I know that Zappa talked about 'practical conservatism' - at one stage, anyway - but that makes no sense to me. Either you are a conservative/reactionary or you are not - or at least, that is the choice that will, ultimately, be presented, and you cannot avoid it (except in a pseduo way by retreating, or 'escaping', into philosophical obscurantism, get your Derrida or Wittingstein out or something).

It looks like Kerry is going to win. Charlie Reese writes for the Orlando Sentinel. He's a Conservative Republican who is
anti-abortion, anti-tax-and-spend, loudly critical of legislation by the judiciary, doesn't think much of ulticulturalism or secularism, has suggested Clinton "turned the Oval Office into a whorehouse," thinks Ronald Reagan is the greatest thing to come down the pike since canned beer, and voted for Bush in the last election. So, take a look at his article which follows. Carrol C. Marks801 International Parkway  Suite 5Orlando FL 32746 [EMAIL PROTECTED] Vote For A Man, Not A PuppetOrlando SentinelCharlie Reese Americans should realize that if they vote for President Bush's re-election, they are really voting for the architects of war - Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz and the rest of that cabal of neoconservative ideologues and their corporate backers. I have sadly come to the conclusion that President Bush is merely a front man, an empty suit, who is manipulated by the
people in his administration. Bush has the most dangerously simplistic view of the world of any president in my memory. It's no wonder the president avoids press conferences like the plague. Take away his cue cards and he can barely talk. Americans should be embarrassed that an Arab King (Abdullah of Jordan) spoke more fluently and articulately in English than our own President at their joint press conference recently. John Kerry is at least an educated man, well-read, who knows how to think and who knows that the world is a great deal more complex than Bush's comic-book world of American heroes and foreign evildoers. It's unfortunate that in our poorly educated country, Kerry's very intelligence and refusal to adopt simplistic slogans might doom his presidential election efforts. But Thomas Jefferson said it well, as he did so often, when he observed that people who expect to be ignorant and free expect what never was and never will be. People who
think of themselves as conservatives will really display their stupidity, as I did in the last election, by voting for Bush. Bush is as far from being a conservative as you can get. Well, he fooled me once, but he won't fool me twice. It is not at all conservative to balloon government spending, to vastly increase the power of government, to show contempt for the Constitution and the rule of law, or to tell people that foreign outsourcing of American jobs is good for them, that giant fiscal and trade deficits don't matter, and that people should not know what their government is doing. Bush is the most prone-to-classify, the most secretive president in the 20th century. His administration leans dangerously toward the authoritarian. It's no wonder that the Justice Department has convicted a few Arab-Americans of supporting terrorism. What would you do if you found yourself arrested and a federal prosecutor whispers in your ear that either you can plea-bargain this or
the President will designate you an enemy combatant and you'll be held incommunicado for the duration ? This election really is important, not only for domestic reasons, but because Bush's foreign policy has been a dangerous disaster. He's almost restarted the Cold War with Russia and the nuclear arms race. America is not only hated in the Middle East, but it has few friends anywhere in the world thanks to the arrogance and ineptness of the Bush administration. Don't forget, a scientific poll of Europeans found us, Israel, No

[Zappa-List] US elections and Florida - dumb all over again

2004-10-29 Thread Danny ODare

Yep, it's Groundhog Day the sequel:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/3960679.stm

Of course, it is just a coincidence that these 58,000 votes go missing in Florida, where Dubya's cousin in is charge. Just a coincidence that they go missing in a strongly Democratic Party area of Florida. Just a coincidence that they go missing in an election which is almost cetainly going to go to the wire. Looks like, again, the lawyers and the Supreme Court (which, by just a coincidence, is solidly reactionary/conservative/Republican) are going to decide who is going to be the next US president and the fate of the world (especially Iraqis).
Deep in gloom,

Hi Sofa! Yes, it's probably me being stupid ... Anyway, I have Jim L's vine 11.11.72 and it's up for graps.
Also, by an eery coincidence, I have just received the following vines:

Petit Wazoo 12/02/72 (early + late) 2-CD
Grand Wazoo 9/15/72 2-CD.

So, in 48 hours time, anybody who wants these items, can have 'em!!

Hi Milhouse!
I'm confused!! I thought I had the "phase II" vine. Big Jim L sent me this show last week - and I've been waiting for someone to take me up on it!! It even has written in green ink on the discs: "Copy and pass on".
I think we have a twin vine situation here ...

I have found that I seem to prefer soundboard recordings myself. I've heard it said that a good audience recording can be better than a sound board recording but I think that would be the exception. I do have a few good audience recordings and I do appreciate the efforts of all the tapers out there. That said though there sure have been some great soundboard shows showing up here lately.

Hi, boys and girlsThe mailman brought this afternoon some nifty packages, containing vines to pass on. I didn´t have time yet to check it the right way, but a preliminary inspection revealed that package number one is identified as Nick´s Vinyl Vine Vols. 1 + 2, containing CD-R versions of LPs Mothermania and Chunga´s Revenge, and Nick´s Vinyl Vine Vols. 3 + 4, containing 2 CD-Rs, one identified as “Aynsley Dunbar” and the other as “Blue Whale”.I also got another package, with 2 CD-Rs (a double set) with the sole identification “24/5/80” without details of venue, city or country. If I was better organized, I would know who sent them (my secretary opened the packages, and gave me only the CDs) or would have the info missing in 24/5/80´s package.
Unfortunately, I´m not organized (not nowadays, anyway), so would be grateful if someone could supply the missing info. I´ll copy the CDs tonight, and revine them.AND NOW, WITHOUT FURTHER ADO, LET´S GO TO THE PART THAT MATTERS.Thanks to some enlightened souls that dwell in our midst, I can reoffer the following:A 4 (four) disks set (the aforementioned Nick´s Vinyl Vine Vols 1,2,3 and 4A 2 (two) disk set (24/5/80) – nice concert, nice soundboard (I think) recordingI probably won´t be able to mail them before next Monday, but if interested, send me off-list your name, snail mail address and promise to reoffer it *as it is* (I mean, copy and pass on the original master).Yours,Roberto (PHB)-__Do You Yahoo!?Tired of spam? Re: [Zappa-List] Feb 3 1977 Pavilion de Paris (long) - reply

2004-09-28 Thread Danny ODare

Hi Glenn,

Sounds good - that is, the DAT copy of the full show. I've only got an (old, cheap) audio cassette of the original vinyl bootleg (presumably), so it does not sound too hot, as you can imagine.
I wouldn't mind having a copy of this sometime. My FZ list can be found on the Group site.
Today I might start 'experimenting' with 'converting' old analogue audio cassettes to new dgitial format - any tips or advice? I don't really have a clue as to what to do. I'm going to use one of the following applications/programmes:

1. Nero Wave Editor
2. CD Wave
3. Steonberg-WaveLab
4. Sound Forge

What do you recommend, if anything?

I've been thinking about this show the last couple of days. This is,of course the show from which the Titties & Beer vinyl boot istaken.I've always been a great fan of this boot since I heard it many years agoand now have it on cdr from a direct vinyl transfer with audible vinylclicks and pops (although not too bad).Anyway,I have a huge cd collection and none of it in any order so I'm nevertoo sure what will come out.I was looking through some discs the other day and pulled out the completeshow which I'd forgotten I had.I seem to remember trading this with someone in Scandinavia but I can'tremember exactly.I have a printed paper note inside the jewel case which lists lineage as;Aud Master>DAT @ 48KHz>M-Audio Audiophile 24/96>WAV>R8Brain Resample from48KHz to 44.1KHz>FLAC>cdr.The guy I got it
from states he did not do the DAT transfer himself andthinks there *may* be an analog gen somewhere in the lineage. What I'm wondering is this.Is the source for the vinyl boot and the dat tape the same or different ?I've tried comparing the two and it's hard to tell. For example,on the dat there is some fairly loud clapping at the start ofDong Work For Yuda which is very hard to hear on the vinyl copy.It could just be that with compression (?) used for a vinyl release some ofthe detail on the dat just would get buried maybe. If the two sources are different it would seem odd that two very similarsounding tapes should emerge from the same show recorded way back in77..it would almost be like you had two guys with identical tape deckssat very close to each other. The other oddity are the cuts.My copy is complete (as far as I can tell) apart from a cut at the end ofTitties & Beer into the first few seconds of
Serviette Noir. This cut doesnot appear on the vinyl boot. The cut is a good couple of minutes which seems over long for a tape flip. Also reading the review of the show on the Shall We Trade Our TapesSeriously site it mentions a cut in Pound just as Bozzio's solo gets going.I can't detect this on my copy.On this site the quality is rated as B+ but I'd say the DAT is a good A- andbetter than the vinyl. The vinyl tends to be a bitlouder/distorted/overloaded in places while the DAT is quieter but with moredetail.Anyone else have this out there or a complete copy,it's worth getting forBlack Napkins alone and Jobson's electric violin solo.Best,GlenFor further Z-related fun, please visit http://www.thebignote.com or http://www.killuglyradio.com , thank you.

Hi Danny - a reply to myself!

I forget to mention:

Like almost everyone else in the world, I am also after decent quality recordings of the "Wazoo" and "Bongo Fury" tour-ettes.

Best wishes,
