Demodex mite is a possibility. Is he real itchy? The clumps and itching are what Coco had. It's hard to find the mites as they are very small. They can apparently live on the animal and if their immune system is compromised the mite can start affecting them. Coco was on steroids and that shut down

YES. We did a muscle biopsy and found myonecrosis - there are several causes - toxins, histoplasmosis and vitamin deficiency. We could not think of a toxin exposure. Coco was tested for histoplasmosis. Since the results were negative, the vets told me this was likely a Vitamin D, Selenium

Is there any diarrhea or vomiting? Frankie was ravenous - even raiding the other kitties' bowls and was diagnosed with pancreatitis. The vet had not seen the ravenous eating with pancreatitis before. He did lose some weight later after he became anorexic. He had occasional fudgy stools.

Pancreatitis is a blood test (and/or ultrasound). They send the blood to Texas now. There is a yahoo group for feline pancreatitis. It is important to do the right test. There is an outdated one that some vets still use. It isn't really something they treat. My vet had me put Frankie on a low fat

Keisha, died suddenly died from congestive heart failure. We did make it to the vet (twice that day) and she died there the second time. He missed the problem at the first visit despite the chest xrays showing fluid and sent her home. She collapsed when we got home and I rushed her back out there.
