Mine was replaced under warranty in 2006 but there's nothing mechanically wrong
with it. Since I don't know enough to cobble up an electronic interface I have
no idea if the controls work.

I don't have a CDI, I just have a low mile VNT I bought off eBay, the seller
admitted to me he got it free because it was scrap from a warranty repair. I
intended to put it on a OM602 with a crazy Finn IP, but shortly after I bought
the turbo the dollar dropped against the euro, and I would have had to weld up a
custom exhaust manifold, and in the end it turned out to be one of those
projects that never went beyond parts buying. It would have been way cool to
control it with a PIC, but I probably would have just hooked up a mechanical
wastegate dashpot to the VNT vanes.

pencilneck bowtie girlieboys in san fransicko  are descended from a

Yeah, I know you can't pronounce an r pahdnah.
McCloud managed to be a cowboy in NYC. No reason you can't be a man
and wear a western shirt without buttons where you live.

pencilneck bowtie girlieboys in san fransicko are descended from a
company that used to make jeans for men. I won't buy their stuff,
unless it is in a thrift store. Buying their stuff in a thrift store
does not support their wacko agenda. Someone else already did when
the stuff is in the thrift store.

You know I live in the east right? :)They'd work out if I cut the

When you talk of the girlie boys did you mean American Apparel?
That'd be in LA, they're pencil necked, mustachioed, skinny jean
wearing girlie men. Theres a difference. ;)

[MBZ] OT: Filipino breakfast

2015-06-12 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
Once again I chickened out on the Chinese breakfast, today I had the Filipino
breakfast which was crispy adobo pork, a fried egg, garlic rice and some
fruit. It was fantastic, I don't normally like fried eggs but with the adobo
sauce it was really nice. The crispy pork was very crispy, kind of crunchy
actually and tasted great.
I finally found a money changer, the banks are closed on Saturday. I'd walked

croissants and "the best dried mango slices in Makati". Spent around 700php or
about $15. The croissants were 65 php each which is great at around $1.40 a
liter of water was 30php after tax which is still less than a buck for a big
bottle.
Anyway I'm about ready for bed, since I'll be working all night I'm sleeping

I loved the chickenbars in the 110/11/112.  Post 65, they didn't have
one over the driver's window, so I picked them up and junkyards and
put them in.  The mounting was still there,  under the headliner.

I always anchored my hand on the chickenbar and planted my elbow on
the windowsill.  comfortable on the highway.

2015-06-12 Thread Max Dillon via Mercedes
Bleeding a master cylinder is easy. Get some clear fish tank air line from
Wal-Mart, and fresh fluid. Install the new master. Fill the reservoir. Open
bleeder for front left brake (closest to reservoir), attach clear hose to
bleeder and run end up to drain into reservoir. Sit in car and pump brakes
while watching the clear hose, stop pumping when the fluid runs clear with no
bubbles. Close up the bleeder, move to left rear wheel and repeat. Done.

I've used this method in a parking garage, worked great. There was no need to
bleed the right rear, I might have bled the right front.

They last for years.

I also like the Blue Generation button shirts from screen

Seattle has a very exceptional thrift store presence. There was even a
hippity hop song about it last year. There are a few buyers of thrift items,
but not enough to keep stores from loading up dumpsters with items that lived
on shelves too long. I think it is all of 20 day turn around. Big box stores
with thousands of feet of floor space.

Anchorage has some of the worst stores I have seen. Small (1k sqft), slim
pickings and out of date products. Maybe the market has 24 hour turn around,
but it did not look like there was any traffic.

Aww, you ratbag. I was thinking about the tent sale today. That is, by far,
the absolute best place to get a heck of a deal on anything A-E.

I’m going to go over to their retail store in Whorelando in the next week or
two and buy a pair of brown or chili loafers. I don’t need wingtips for work,
so I’m slowly but surely phasing them out of my rotation.

Oh, I caught your comment about Dan's shoes.
I have two pair of 'casual wing tips' that I bought before tax season this year,
the McTavish model in black wax infused cowhide and smoky gray distressed
leather. The gray ones are a lot softer, the black ones get uncomfortable after
the first ten hours or so. Black was on sale for $199 and I had a $50 credit on

Now I'm on the hunt for something in brown, burgundy, or tan. Would really like

The opening of Bracken's first book is almost that scary, and what comes after

I don't like cheese and I'm not really excited about eggs so it seems like a
perfect match. :)
I forget what else comes in the Chinese breakfast, chicken something I think.
We'll see, I'm fixing to go to breakfast in a little bit.

Ahh, it was a tough day food wise. I had cinnamon roll french toast for
breakfast which came with some of the best bacon I've ever had. I was too
chicken to try the "Chinese breakfast" with its century egg. Maybe I'll be more
adventurous this morning.Yesterday (its Saturday here now) was Independence day
so I couldn't find anywhere to change money. Then an ATM ate my card and my
credit card company apparently didn't believe me when I said I'd be traveling.
I was lucky because my hotel gives free breakfast and put a 1PHP (just over
$200) hold on my card when I first came in. That charge went through but
nothing after that would so I could have a pizza for dinner. I had a stern talk
with my credit card company and they've promised to cut the shit. I also
realized my American Express might be a better choice for traveling and also
noticed my backup Mastercard is expired. I walked all over the place and
managed to make my feet sore from wearing teva sandals that my feet aren't used
to. I think I might also have gotten a little sunburn.
Overall not a great first day today should be better.

It’s probably been a couple of years since I bought t-shirts, so it’s very
possible their prices have gone up - I need to look at that and see, as I could
have unrealistic expectations of the current prices.  I was just really caught
off guard when I went into Penney’s the other day.

My Dad had a tailor for years, and both my brother and I went to him until he
passed.  He would measure you up, have you pick the fabric, and a week later
you had your shirts.  Want more?  Just call and tell him what you want as far
as fabric and he makes up more from your patterns.

My brother is a “big and tall” guy, and he often remarked that the term was
simply a marketing ploy for retailers to increase the price of clothing another
20%-30%.  For what it cost to have Nick make a shirt for him he would have been
hard pressed to find something of the same quality off the rack, and that’s if
it fit.

It’s tough to find someone with these skills any more.  I tried to find someone
in Tampa like him, but no luck.  I didn’t want a high end men’s store tailor, I
wanted some guy running his own operation who you could trust to take good care
of you and give you good service.

Re: [MBZ] hey WILTON

2015-06-12 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes

I didn't want to beat you over the head with it. I also wanted to keep the
graphic exactly the original size, fortunately they'd given me some border.
It'd be fun to have them printed out so you'd need a double take to see the
difference. I was also pleased that Pixlr online image editor had a font that
was very close to the original. In fact I like the Pixlr font a little better

I can understand the neighbors being nervous, but what we need here

I’m not worried about it, I just know that the same shirts can be had for less

gladly pay $7 a shirt (or more) to support them AND keep the money in the
community.  I routinely pay more for some products and services I buy locally

I used to have my dress shirts made by a local tailor, for probably in the
neighborhood of $50-$75 a shirt.  Didn’t care about the price because Nick, the
little Greek guy who made them, lived in the same area.  I knew the money I
spent with him stayed right in my community and helped put his kids through

Re: [MBZ] hey WILTON

2015-06-12 Thread WILTON via Mercedes
Most of the men usually wore Fedoras, even straw or old Fedoras when working
in the fields. Many wore farmers' straw hats; some wore pith helmets. At
about 12, I acquired a pith helmet, but I soon cut off almost all of the
brim, except a small area in front (for a bill), and painted the hat white
to make it look like an Indy racing helmet, which I wore for several years
and/or renewed as necessary. For the few around who did not know my name,
I was known as "that boy who wears the racing helmet." From a distance, one
could swear it was a racing helmet.

I've seldom worn a hat except when required as part of an Air Force uniform
or for a bit of cover from the intense sun in the fields in summer. The
only time(s) I've worn a ball cap was with the fatigue/utility uniform
during the 3½ years I was enlisted and a B-47 maintenance crew chief. In a
drawer upstairs, I still have the one that I last wore in early March 1960,
when I left Lincoln AFB, NE, to attend Officer Candidate School (OCS). I
take it out occasionally and study it as a reminder - that's not with
nostalgia - just a reminder to be thankful.

I don't remember seeing so many ball caps before, maybe, 25 years ago. I
have not succumbed to the "fashion;" I've been lucky enough, though, to have
always (even now) had plenty of hair, now white. ;<)

I was thinking of you and your stories of your youth.

What sort of hats did you all wear back then?

Hats are an odd thing. Useful for folks who work outdoors like farmers and
decorative to some extent for the ladies etc but apart from baseball hats,
seem to have all but faded from the scene.
I have a couple of Tilley hats that I wear from time to time but my boys
did not want to be seen with me when I wore them.

2015-06-12 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
I walked all over the place and managed to make my feet sore from wearing teva
sandals that my feet aren't used to. I think I might also have gotten a little
sunburn.
Overall not a great first day today should be better.

Really, you're all worried about $7 a shirt? I'm having some shirts made and
the cheap ones were $7.50 each (thats with 2 color screen printing) the made in
USA American Apparel ones I'm getting are $12.50 each.
I would suggest that you maybe have a warped opinion on what the shirts should
cost. Penny's has to make a little profit too...
Actually this is kind of whats wrong with America, how many shirts are you
going to buy that it would cost "a small fortune"? What else would you do with
the money? The cheapest means somebody doesn't get to eat. As much as I like
Amazon for selling me weird stuff I can't find anywhere else I like buying from

Sadly, the failure was not mysterious.
Target totally misjudged the Canadian market.
They assumed that we were like the USA and would flock to Target once
they opened. They did not fully appreciate the foothold that WalMart
already has here.
Apparently (it is not obvious to me but I don't spend much time in
either store so what do I know?) in the USA, Target is considered
up-market from WalMart.
Target assumed that the middle class and up would abandon WalMart in
favour of Target.
It did not happen. Target opened too many stores all at once and did not
have a supply network able to stock them. Their stores did not have
enough stock and much of what they did have was not of obvious quality.
Many people went to Target once, looked around, and did not go back. I
did not even go once. My wife went, told me it was a lost cause, and did
not go back. I listened to her and did not bother to go there. I go to
WalMart around here about once a year. I go to a WalMart in Grand Forks

So, the MBA's who drove the Target bus into Canada were not doing their

Having not been there I really can't say but I've had excellent luck in
Burbank. A lot of costume stuff that was bought for big movies and such ends up
at Thrift stores where it ironically gets bought for other movies and
productions...
New England I think has some of the worst thrift stores. I don't think its
because people don't get rid of stuff, they do. I think its more because they
are heavily shopped so the good stuff goes early. Yankee thrift and all that.

Hats are an odd thing. Useful for folks who work outdoors like farmers

hats, seem to have all but faded from the scene.

Re: [MBZ] OT More Crazy Weather Not to Worry About

2015-06-12 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
HA!
I went ahead and made the graphic and wrote a blog post about it:
http://curtsotherblog.blogspot.com/2015/06/quasi-political.htmlI live in a red
part of one of the bluest states and I do a lot of traditionally "conservative
value" type activities while having a bunch of liberal friends.
I think my attitude boils down to being anti-stupid which pretty much makes me
anti-politician.
This should be an interesting election from the "everybody likes looking at a
horrific accident" perspective. Assuming Hillary gets the democratic nomination
it'll galvanize the right whom might just run a right wing nut job that will
galvanize the left and it'll be a race to see who can do the stupidest thing
that gives their opponent the votes to get elected.

At a stoplight, in the lane to my right, was a Prius, with an "I'm ready for

and Hollywood Fats is NOT a member.

Hint to Mao. Hey, you are retired with nothing better to do than social
media

Wasn't he working at Walter Reed or something, but getting ready to be a ship's

I was thinking of you and your stories of your youth.

What sort of hats did you all wear back then?

Hats are an odd thing. Useful for folks who work outdoors like farmers
and decorative to some extent for the ladies etc but apart from baseball
hats, seem to have all but faded from the scene.
I have a couple of Tilley hats that I wear from time to time but my boys
did not want to be seen with me when I wore them.
