My objective: I have a table. Based upon the rows that the user selects, I want to push the row values into a field. My understanding is that I can do this by creating workflow that walks a table. I looked at the Technical Guide and some of it is confusing to me. Am I supposed to build separate active links for each one of these steps? Walk Table Field Call Guide Walk Table Field End Row Walk Table Field Exit Guide Walk Table Field Find Next Row Walk Table Field Modify Row Walk Table Field Set Current Row Walk Table Field Verify Row Scenario: I have two entries in Table New Purchase Number PO4453. PO4523 When the user selects the two entries within the Table New - I want to push both of the numbers into Field A. I built an Active Link that triggers workflow when a button is pressed - the AL calls an AL Guide, that performs a table loop, on TABLE New, and I have 'Table Loop Selected Rows Only' field checked. Then this same active link sets Field A with the value of the row selected within the Table New. The problem is that the Field A is being set with ONLY the value from the first entry selected in the table. It does no read the second item the user selected. I read about '!, and '$ characters. I will try this next, but I want to make sure this is technically possible. I read in the technical guide, that work flow can be triggered after the user selects a row within the table. The user can select multiple rows correct? The AL guide has a checkbox for it - not sure why it is not working. Can someone tell me, what step am I missing? Someone mentioned setting a label, and then a go to label action. I tried this and nothing happened. _Platinum Sponsor: rmisoluti...@verizon.net ARSlist: Where the Answers Are_ An Excellent Credit Score is 750. _See Yours in Just 2 Easy Steps!_ (http://pr.atwola.com/promoclk/100126575x1222585042x1201462767/aol?red... w.freecreditreport.com/pm/default.aspx?sc=668072hmpgID=62bcd=JuneExcfooter NO62) _Platinum Sponsor: rmisoluti...@verizon.net ARSlist: Where the Answers Are_ **An Excellent Credit Score is 750. Re: Open Ticket Counts
I saw this happen when I was doing some testing and deleted tickets before I resolved or closed them. Deleteing a ticket does not decrease the number of open items. When I resolved a ticket the open ticket count decreased, then I could delete it. You can change the properties of the open ticket counter so you can edit it to the proper value manually. James On May 5, 4:51 am, Rod Harris r...@smapps.com.au wrote: Hi Laurie, How did you get on with this? I too have got the same (or similar) issue. I'd like to implement a slight variation on auto assignment by capacity and I likewise need the open tickets count to work as it should. Right now many people have thousands of tickets supposedly opened though this is definitely not right. I suspect that the filter HPD:INC:AR_002_ESCALATOR_AutoCloseGotoEnd is the culprit. It basically skips all the filters when a ticket is auto closed. The other thing that fails as a result of this filter is that the matching request is not closed at the same time as an incident. If he incident is later modified for some other completely unrelated reason then the matching service request is mysteriously suddenly closed. This would also send a closure email to the client, perhaps many months after the ticket has been automatically closed. I'm planning on shifting this skip filter down the execution order a little so that at least the request is closed and the count is decremented as it should. I have patch 9 of ITSM 7.03 installed on a patch 6 7.1 server. If you are interested I'm trying to implement assignment via capacity such that if there is no capacity available, auto assignment is deferred until capacity is freed. OOTB I assume that it still allocates over and above capacity if nobody has any left though this might be compromised by the totally incorrect open ticket counts that we have. Rod 2009/3/7 Muhlethaler, Laurie lmuhletha...@firstrepublic.com ** Listers ~ it appears as though the Open Tickets count in users’ PPL profiles is grossly inflated. I’ve verified that it’s incrementing and decrementing as designed but somewhere along the line it either wasn’t decrementing properly or the incrementing went haywire (real technical, I know). At any rate, I just thought I’d throw this out there and see if anyone else has stumbled across this. I’m trying to implement auto-assignment based on Number and obviously I can’t do that until I’ve figured out this issue. Also, can someone tell me why the OOTB Incident functionality only decrements the Open Tickets count when a ticket is closed and not resolved (HPD:INC:UpdateAssignmentTicketCount_TicketClosed_013 filter)? Re: Upgrade server and migrate data
I have used Remedy Migrator to do all my server migrations. It was not perfect, but got the job done. As for how long it would take that all depends on how many apps, forms, workflow and all that that you have as well as how much data. I always did my migrations over a weekend. I moved the forms and stuff over the previous week or so and tested. Then cut off access to the old server to our users by putting it in admin only mode. I cut over the data and gave myself 2 days to do this. We use a dns alias for our remedy server, so that helped with the clients connecting to the new server when it was ready. Our last server migration was from 6.3 to 7.1 and ITSM 7 (from HelpDesk 4). This was a big one and took us about 6 months to get setup. I started moving data ahead of time and then moved only new or changed data on that final weekend. This may not work for everyone. We were also able to fully migrate some specialized custom apps ahead of time and put those into production first. Server migration is never fun. Once the file was in order, the server was restarted and the errors went away. Let me know if anyone needs help on this. I will do my best. 7.5 User Tool Install
HI. I am trying to configure an Options.txt file for a silent install of the 7.5 User Tool. I have been working with support on this, but not getting anywhere. I have found some parameters from the install logs that are not in the template they give you or the documentation, but there are still some pieces missing. I am not sure if anyone has attempted this yet or had any luck. I am trying to build this install so that it will perform an upgrade of sorts to existing 7.1 User Tool installs. No matter what I enter into the Options.txt file for the product install path c:\Program Files\Remedy and for BMC_USER_TOOL_INSTALL_DIRECTORY=c:\Program Files\Remedy (this is one parameter that only shows up in the logs), the user tool still installs to c:\Program Files\Remedy\User This results in having the existing 7.1 User Tool and the 7.5 User Tool installed. I can remove the 7.1 files, but my concern is for users that may have created desktop shorcuts to aruser.exe and such. The other option that is missing is for the preference server. I don't remember if that was part of the 7.1 install or if I just added it to the registry. We use marimba to deploy our application to the desktops, but I am still testing the setup.exe with the options.txt file manually. Running the setup without the options.txt file also results in that User directory being where it is installed. Any help would be appreciated. Re: DeveloperStudio 7.5: Fields in View equivalent?
I clicked Help, then Help Contents and searched for Fields In View It is a pretty helpful place to find stuff like this. Here is what I found. To add and remove fields in a form view Open a form in BMC Remedy Developer Studio. Click the form view tab of the appropriate view at the bottom of the form editor. Choose Form Add/Remove Fields On View. In the Add/Remove Fields in View dialog box, select fields in one list and click the arrow buttons to move them to the other list, or click the double-arrow buttons to move all the field to one of the lists. Click OK to close the dialog box. Choose File Save to save your changes. To add or remove a field from form views: Open the appropriate form, and select the field. In the Properties tab, select the Views value, and then click its ellipsis button. In the Views dialog box, all views defined for the form appear in the Not In Views list and the In Views lists. Re: Licensing Question
That all depends on your needs. Fixed and Floating licenses allow users to submit and modify all entries, barring any other security you might add. The difference between fixed and floating is that Floating licenses are shared. If you have 20 users sharing 5 floating licenses, only 5 users can login with read/write access. A fixed license is a dedicated license to individual users. Someone with a fixed license will always be allowed to login with read/write access. Read licenses allow users to submit and modify only those entries that they created. Then there is the Restricted Read license that only allows submit. Read and Restricted Read licenses are unlimited. You can assign as many of these as you wish. I am planning a similar thing here. I think it might be best to run the DB remotely. That way it is not taking up resources from your Remedy server. As long as it is located at the same physical site as your Remedy server, you should be fine. We are going to be using a VM environment with 2 x 3 GHz processors and 8 GB RAM and about 50 GB disk. Re: arserver.exe Memory Usage 7.0.01 - REVISITED
I had a ticket opened with BMC for what I think is the same issue. I would make a minor change to workflow or a form and it would take 20 - 45 seconds to save. This happened on Production and Development with Dev Cache Mode on in our dev environemnt. Support had me running around in cirlces sending log file after log file. They ended up telling me to export all of our 16,000 + active links in small chuncks because the problem was probably caused by a corrupt active link. I was to see if any export took longer than the others to narrow down the corrup AL. I started doing this and stopped soon after. That was a ridiculous task. Turns out that if I turned off Details view in the admin too, the problem went away. This was shortly confirmed as a bug in the admin tool and the fix was in QA. I do not think it made it into the last patch 7.1 patch 6. I just checked the release notes again and it is not listed. The defect number is listed below. It is listed as fixed, but there is no mention of what patch it is fixed in. ISSUE: Delay in saving workflow. CAUSE: Details View. RESOLUTION: Created defect #SW00314644 I hope this is helpful. Re: Selective field modification Status
You can do this with a filter. The problem is checking the DB (database) value for 600 fields against the TR (transaction) values. I would imagine that there would be a limit on the filter qualification. You can probably break it up into multiple filters. The qualification would look something like this: 'Field1' != 'DB.Field1' This compares the field value in the current transaction to what is stored in the database. You would need to do this for all your G2 fields. It could get kind of hairy. You would need to check if any of the G2 fields have changed: 'G2Field1' != 'DB.G2Field1' OR 'G2Field2' != 'DB.G2Field2' ... 'G2Field600' != 'DB.G2Field600' This would trigger the message regardless of any G1 fields changing. You don't even need to check if any of the G1 fields changed or not. Re: ARS 6.3 and Remedy Helpdesk 5.6- what to do next . . .
Moving to the ITSM Suite comes with additional cost and will only be approved by BMC if you meet certain criteria. Those criteria of course revolve around money. You will get a partial credit for all the products you owned prior to July, 2008. Basically you are trading these in, getting a credit, then buying the suite. Keep in mind that the ITSM Suite is licensed for ARS 7.1 and above. If you meet the money criteria and BMC allows you to move to the new pricing model, there is a change in how support costs are calculated. Under the new pricing, support is 18% of the NET cost of the products you now own. But. there needs to be at least a 10% increase in your annual support costs for BMC to allow you to move to the ITSM Suite and the new pricing. It was not a fun transition for us. We went through this with BMC and a BMC partner for months working out the details. Good luck to anyone thinking about going down this path. I am glad we are almost through with it (still working out support cost issues 4 months after we made the purchase). As for the conversion from Help Desk 5.5.1 to Service Desk 7.0.02/3, it hasn't been that difficult for our IT staff users to make the switch with just a little bit of online training developed by our helpdesk. There are more similarities than differences in the interface - it's the plumbing that's radically different. It's also a migration, not an upgrade; the move from 7.0 to 7.5 is supposed to be an upgrade (I'll believe it when I see it work), but there is no such thing from 5.x/6.x to 7.x. You may want to talk to your sales rep about the new suite licensing. It moves you to an enterprise model for the servers and apps, and includes many apps you may never have considered due to the individual unit costs. Of course the conversion will cost you, but we are seriously considering it right now. Note that it appears that converting does move you to a level higher in support, whatever that means. Considering all of the apps included in the full ITSM suite, that is probably a necessary upgrade. Hello list! I'm going to go ahead and throw it out there- my ARS is a total dinosaur. I'm running ARS 6.3 on Windows Server 2003 on a remote Oracle database. We now have a Remedy Helpdesk application that is on version 5.6. Overall I'm pretty happy with the system except for the support costs. I have not had to go get any support for the product for almost 18 months though I still pay for it. And now, the rub. I have no idea what ARS 7 much less ARS 7.5 looks like, or what it costs. I'm pretty sure there is no longer a Helpdesk application. And I am dreading doing an upgrade, and I'm not even sure what we'd have to pay to make one happen. Has anyone moved from ARS 6.3 and Helpdesk to the new ARS and some other Helpdesk-like product? How did the costs change? Was it very difficult? I only have basic support through BMC so I'm having trouble getting the information I need though I will be calling them this afternoon to find out what my options are. They certainly did not have a problem selling me support this year . . . Thanks, Brad Terhune ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or
Re: ITSM 7.0.3 Approval Server
In order to approve a change you will need to have a fixed or floating license. Read licenses only let you submit and modify only the entries that you have submitted. I do not think that this applies here. From the documentation: Within their assigned permissions, users with Read licenses can search for requests and display requests. In addition, administrators can configure the AR System server to enable users with Read licenses to do the following tasks: Submit requests Modify requests that they submitted The ability to allow those with Read licenses to submit requests allows you to reserve write licenses for users who need to modify requests that they did not submit. Re: Question: Consolidated group notifications
You can create a dummy user with the distribution list as it's email address. Then put this user in the group that you want to notify. But I guess you also want the other people to be in that group as well so they can access the record as a member of the assignee group, but then they would get the email - so this solution would not work. Another option is to add a backend form that holds the group name and email address you want to use. Add a hidden field on the form you are working on so you can pull the email adress over from the hidden form. When the group is selected as the assignee, you can do a lookup on the hidden form and bring over the email address. Then in the notification filter you would send notifications to that email address. Just specify that field name in the notify action. If you are using Remedy ITSM or other OOTB apps, it becomes more difficult to change something like this without breaking 100 things. This solution could work for a custom app though. Re: Pricing model changed in July 08?
We just got hit with this too. We were planning on spending some money on Change and Asset. We were then told by a 3rd party vendor that the pricing model has changed. We could still buy under the old pricing model, but we would not get any credit for it when we finally moved to the new pricing. BMC is planning on moving all customers to the new pricing model in 2 years. Any Remedy purchases you made prior to some date in July 2008 would get you a credit towards the new pricing. It is not 100% credit since the pricing model has changed. The old pricing model was the Green and now it is the Blue. This really threw a wrench in our plans. We also found out that if you are getting xx% discount from a vendor, that same discount gets applied to your credit, so the amout of your credit is reduced. BMC has a profit margin that they must meet in order to move a customer to the new pricing model. They really should be notifying all customers of this change and the fact that any new purchases under the old model will not count when the eventually do move to the new pricing. It also seems that nobody has all the information on this. There seems to be little or no documentation on this other than some internal presentations to the sales team. We ended up moving to the new model and spent $40,000 more than we wanted. With the new support pricing (18% of what you payed and credit for what support you have already payed for the year), we will end up getting our money back over 4 years. The benefit is that you get all the ITSM applications, development licenses, and a few other items. Where you get into trouble with the user licenses. Those prices went way up. They have a suite license now that gives a user access to all itsm applications. You can still buy the individual user application licenses as well. He states that the entire ITSM Suite of applications can be purchased for $13,000 but that the User licenses are then more expensive to offset the loss of revenue. User licenses can then be purchased, as today, one application at a time, or one super-license covering all applications. Additionally, annual service contracts can then be calculated on 'actual price paid' rather than on 'current list price'. (again: your choice as to which model is better for you). I have not heard of this before, and if this is true, can someone a) point me to some documentation on this. b) comment on whether this model saved you any money (it seems to me that only a very low number of User licenses could make this new model more affordable). -ivan- -- Ivan Runions Information Technologies University of Calgary Calgary Alberta Canada (403) 220-4437 ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives atwww.arslist.org Platinum Sponsor:www.rmsportal.comARSlist: Where the Answers Are__Platinum Sponsor: www.rmsportal.com ARSlist: Where the Answers Are html___ ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org Platinum Sponsor: www.rmsportal.com ARSlist: Where the Answers Are
ITSM 7 Assignment Configuration Issue
I have a problem when setting up Assignments on the Assignment Configuration form for ITSM 7. I am refering specifically to the Product Categorization menus on this form. For some reason (and this is my problem), if a Product is associated with my Operating Company, it does not show up as a menu choice under product. The only way I can get these products to show up is to associate them to - Global - I opened a ticket with support, but I am not happy about the level of support lately. They told me that I needed to have aliases setup for all my Products in order for it to work. That was a bunch of horse pucky. But, I tried it anyway and it did not work. Any ideas? Re: ITSM 7 Assignment Configuration Issue
The Products are available on Incident or Problem as expected and for the correct company or - Global - as we expected they would. They show up there fine. I have some configured to be available on incident, and others on Problem. No problems with that. This issue is when we go to configure the assignments on the Assignment Configuration form. The only products that are available on that form are the ones that are associated with - Global - We need to have some of our products restricted to our Operating Company. Thos products are not available on the Assignment Configuration form. Support initially told me that it had to do with the way we imported the Products using the Data Management Tool. I have tested and proven that no matter how a Product is entered, it is not available on the Assignment Configuration form unless it is associated with the - Global - (default) company. Modify All User's Application Preferences in ITSM 7
Hi Group, Does anyone know of a way to modify all User's Application Preferences in ITSM 7? I want to hide the Vendor and Finance tab from the Incident form. The check boxes I need to access for all user's is on the Application Preferences form. I can change my own preferences and also the default, but when I open the CTM:CFG-ApplicationPreferences form, I cannot see any entries but my own and the default. I even tried doing a Clear All before searching. I updated the deafult entry, but that should only affect new users that are added to the system and not the existing ones. Re: Modify All User's Application Preferences in ITSM 7
Problem Solved. I was under the assumption that a user would have an entry here by default. What happens is that if a user does not make any changes to their Application Preferences, they do not have an entry on the form and would use the Default Application Settings. That is why I searched and only got 2 results back, mine and the default. Re: Silent Installation
I had some problems in doing this silent install. I needed to have two answer files. One for an upgrade and one for a new install. I was able to work with this, but I came across another problem. I needed two more answer files. One for a new install on a machine that was going to need a reboot after install and another for an upgrade that was going to need a reboot after install. That's 4 total answer files. There was no way for me to tell which machines would need a reboot before the install failed. I would get error code 3 missing information if I used the wrong answer file. This became too difficult to manage and automate. We use BMC Conuration Management to do software installs. I created a custom package and manually added in all the files and registry keys. I also created a separate install for the Crystal reports viewer that had a convenient msi file and attached that install to the User Tool install through policy manager. Re: Customized Mid-Tier login page
Instead of creating an html file to do the redirect, you can create a Virtual Directory in IIS and in the properties you can set a redirect to a url. Re: Question: Active Link - Checking Table - ITSM 7
I think a simple solution is to check any column in the table for a value. If col1 = $NULL$ or col1 != $NULL$ James On May 30, 2:00 pm, T. Dee [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: THANKS!!! On 5/30/08, Gary Opela (Corporate) [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Tyrone, I just tested this out. The value of a Table Field that has one or more rows is 1 or more, depending on which row you have selected. If there are rows, but you have none selected, then the value is still 0. You can ctrl-click on a selected row to make it un-selected, so a user could potentially un-select all rows in a table, even if one was already selected, which would cause a 0 to return. So, make sure that you have the property on the table field set to automatically select the first row choice when the table is loaded. The value of a Table Field that has not yet been refreshed is $NULL$ or one of the two the first time you open the form. If you change the window mode and then change it back, for instance, from search to create, then the value of the un-refreshed table field is 0. The value of a Table Field that has been refreshed, but has no rows, is 0. Basically, make sure you are refreshing the table with WF, and have the property checked that says select initial row, then you just check to see if Table Field = 1, if it does, then the table field has at least 1 row. If it returns 0 or $NULL$ or , then it is empty (you can count on 0 meaning empty since you have automatically select first row selection). I think this would be the easiest thing to look at. Include the request ID field in your table. Run IF col1 = $NULL$ where col1 is the Request ID field in the table. It may be col2 or 3 or a custom name. Re: Custom css
I found out how to add a custom css without messing up my menu bar. I created an ARSystem.css file that included only the classes that I want changed. I added this to my Support Files for my application. I was able to modify the td.BaseTableCell,td.BaseTableCellOdd classes to get it to show left or right borders for a cell. I was hoping to do this using a table property so that the column dividers would span the complete hight of the table. Visually this is my desired result. I have table calculations that appear below the table and for each column. It would be easier to see which column totals are for which columns if the column divider spanned the hight of the column, even if there is only one or two rows of data with the table is able to display 20 or so rows. Any other ideas? Re: BMC Support RFE Document
I had a support tech submit an RFE for me a couple of weeks ago. There was no paperwork to fill out on my end. On Apr 22, 10:48 pm, John Sundberg [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: CMDB (Carey Matthew de Black), Kinetic would be more than willing to host a nice RFE submittal process. In addition we could provide transparency to the status of the RFE. With the ability to run it through an approval or voting process of some sort. (Kinda some fun stuff with Kinetic Request) The nice thing about asking the right questions is that the people who receive the RFE would have information that they could use to understand the RFE yet the form would not be killer for the person to submit the RFE. (Good data really is the point of the 4 page form - unfortunately it is a static doc etc.) If people really want this - I can make it happen (my side) -- I am not so sure BMC is willing to pay attention to the RFEs especially RFEs collected by somebody other than themselves. Also - I do agree it would be nice if BMC would use their own product for more of this kind of stuff. The very fact that they would use it for this type of thing would constantly keep it fresh (and known) that Remedy can do stuff other than Incident handling. Also - I think if BMC would use it for more than ITSM -- then they would have some real requests for enhancements from internal developers. Also - I could donate a copy to Dan Bloom and have him run it on his server. I like this option -- as I can also give him unlimited admin users for Kinetic -- and anybody on the list who wants to maintain the RFE processes could get in and use Kinetic (hopefully love it). The only issue I have seen where no pages are being displayed, not even the config page, was due to the jakarta (sp?) web plugin. I was already doing this on my non-R2 development mid-tier server, so maybe I just lucked out when I replicated the setup on the R2 production server. You would need to add that account to the tomcat-users.xml file with a role of manager, too. Permissions to run services appear to be tighter in R2, although the tomcat instance installed in the Kinetic Apps directory - 5.5.20 - which all the Kinetic applications are using, has never had any problem running under the LOCAL SYSTEM account's default permissions. I also had problems with mid-tier 7.1.x installing tomcat in \Program Files\ instead of the correct location \Program Files (x86)\ but you won't see that unless you are on x64 - it is not an R2-specific problem, I don't think. That still is not fixed in 7.1.00.002, which still installs tomcat 5.5.17 but frequently refuses to run with it. BMC Support had me manually install tomcat 5.5.26, which solved both the incorrect path for installation and whatever was going wrong with the patch 2 mid-tier. I still run the service under the domain user account with local power user permissions, and open the ports in the firewall (8080 and 8443). With 7.1.00.002 you have to be on java 1.5.0 - I installed 1.5.0_14 - and give it a nice chunk of memory if you will be using the persistent cache (an absolute necessity with ITSM 7). I want to be able to view column or cell borders for the data in the table (or the whole table). The border shows for selected rows by default. Re: Tool to convert a def file?
You can try Remedy Developer Plus. If you have a valid support contract you can download it from the patch site. They do not have a 7.x version, but I do know that the 6 version that is posted there will run against a 6.3 server. It can analyze and document selected workflow into a readable format. You can export to pdf or html. On Apr 21, 5:38 pm, Mary Dollus [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi Michiel, Sorry,,, yes I meant for active links and filters... Like convert this: actlink-query : 4\6\1\18136\2\0\ action { set-field : [EMAIL PROTECTED] System Email Templates\1\179\4\1\99\18136\1\18121\2\3\ into something I can interpret. I'm trying to analyze a def file of some workflow before I import it... but maybe that's not possible. Thanks!! It only depends on what it is you actually try to read from it If you would like to use it to search for wording in error messages -- that can be easily done by searching on text strings If you would like to search for form layout -- no go! A tool like ARInside can help you a lot if you for instance would like to know what fields need to be changed if you decide to enlarge the Summary field on HPD:Help Desk... or actually with a lot of other questions as well.
