Well, there is a "standard" (you'd have to look around a bit) tag that
is called Original Year (or something similar). Since you are using
FLAC files, you could create such a tag. You could use that to store
the date you want and leave the standard date field to keep the album
year in place.

collection, but I only got as far as dealing with the tags. I use FLAC
files and MP3Tag to tag them.
As a start, I basically created or filled tags that were there or I
custom created for classical music.

also seems that without the compilation setting, it is missing all
the track artists when I browse by artist. At this point, I am trying
to show all artists (track and album) before I determine whether I want
to try and make things more efficient. I know this is a flaw my

My biggest source of problems with multiple artist tags has been the
"artist sort" field. In some cases the automatic metadata entries have
this field set and I don't necessarily notice. It's a field I'm not
used to having and usually neglect, but it can cause
squeezebox software can't seem to handle the DISC NUMBER
tags by either ignoring them or misusing them. Eitherway, it can be a
mess.

problem in most of my files was those ID3v1 tags. A lot of software
write both versions, yet it can be hard to see the
