Spike Jones and????

2010-09-03 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
I know many of you may remember a band called Spike Jones and His
City Slickers. They were popular on radio and TV in the 40's and 50's.
They mostly played silly songs.
A member of Spike Jones' band appeared twice on Andy in two different
shows in two different roles. Can you remember the name of this
musician from Spike Jones' band who appeared on Andy?

Spike Jones.. Spike Jones...was he related to Al Becker? No I don't
remember him, but you go ahead and tell your story anyway. I'll bet
it's about a big Collie Dog that had just been shaved and he gets dogs
hairs all over his clothes and the musical instruments.. Al Becker?
Spike Jones??? And then Fred Goss has to clean the Musicians Suit but
the Musician is out at the Campground, Al Becker,, Spike Jones??? And
then the Collie Dog meets up with Opie and a pack of Dogs..no that's a
different story are you sure it wasn't Freddy Fleet and his Slickers
with a Beat?

David Browning's daughter--Shazam, you have to see this

OK you may not be a reality show fan, but you have to see this if you
have ever seen or heard David Browning, or met he and or Patty. Even if
you just somewhat like magic, you will be impressed with Lindsay
Browning as a Magician's assistant.

Not only did he (Michael Grasso) user her again this time she really
showed her skills and acting talent (and a little sex appeal, if I may
say so). All I can say is Shazam! Lindsay is a star in her own right.
She actually becomes a decoy.. I'll say it again, Shazam!

Pick-ups and Splashes from Floor and Pool

2010-08-25 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)

There was a point in the middle of the episode where Andy missed a
chance to teach Opie a life lesson. When Opie and Andy are in the
living room and Andy is looking at the mosaic, Opie tells Andy that some
of his friends came over earlier that day and laughed at the mosaic
Orville Hendricks -

Orville, you bring up an interesting point. We all know that Andy was
not perfect when it came to raising his son.He had to consider also
how Opie felt about being proud of his home..so this was a tough choice.
Perhaps with time to think about it, he would have come up with a
compromise..such as hanging it in his bedroom. Now Otis every day when
I wake up..I'll be reminded of your rehabilitation..and I'll see that
cow and want to come down to the kitchen for a glass of milk. I think
the fact that he stashed it in the closet was what a little insulting to
Otis.

Even a self-proclaimed Number 1 Schwamp fan has trouble with the
question..did Mr. Schwamp ever wear glasses more that that one time? but
that's the only one I recall. In the Seth Taylor Episode, he had on a
big hat, and you really have to look close to find him. He' usually in
a suit jacket and tie, but not always.

He's often at parties or social events, and often appears with Nice
Dress Nellie.

Check out our Schwamp page for his known appearances, and check him
out. It's was like a fun Where's Waldo video book when I made that
list...but likely I missed some pages.

To add to the Mayberry is everywhere theme, there was a homeless guy in
the local area who knowingly committed a crime for the shelter a food or
a local jail. What does that remind you of. I wonder if he got
breakfast in bed like Otis?

My Barney Experience

2010-08-11 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
My Barney Experience

This past Sunday, my church had a special event called Worship in the
City. Basically we had 4,000 or so people from our church and others
combine for an outside service in a park right in the middle of a big
city. I signed up for Kid-watch..which I wasn't sure what would be
involved. When I got there, they explained that our job was to walk the
perimeter and make sure that children stayed with their families (did
not run out into the street etc.), and that no one tried to walk off
with a child that did not belong to them.

While I was absorbing this responsibility that was more sobering than I
thought, the lady handed me a whistle on a string. She said, if you
have any issues, or questionable situations..just blow your whistle.

Well, I was wearing a stick-on name-tag that said Kid-watch (kinda
like a badge) ..and now a whistle is placed around my neck. I
immediately starting hearing the Barney Fife theme music in my head that
is played when he is patrolling in front of the cells, or getting
serious about a police assignment. I went totally Barney Fife in my
head. I was not going to just look for stray kids, but by golly I had
my eye out for pick-pockets, Jay-walkers, Chicken thieves (sorry
Harriet) and parking violations. I was there to serve the people and
assist other law enforcement officers, and protect the Common Defense.
When my friends saw me strutting around I just tipped my hat and pointed
to the whistle (as if to say..take it easy, I've got everything under
control).

Luckily, nothing really happened. I gave directions to the port-o-lets
a few times. I told a few kids to stay closer to their Mothers, and I
picked up a little trash,,but I was ready for anything, Giving me that
whistle was like Goober getting a badge, or Deputy Jerry Miller when he
slipped on the uniform with a badge, You just can't help to be a
law-enforcement rube.

Tribute Artists..more

2010-08-09 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
Just to add to what Sandy and Mike have said, Tim does have a great
relationship with George Lindsey. The last time I saw Tim, he talked
about going to George's birthday party. He reported that George asked
Him How is our career going? George's heath does not allow him to do
much acting or very few appearances, as I understand.

So, not to beat this to death, but there is no rule written or unwritten
that a tribute artist's character's original actor cannot be alive. Don
Knott's enjoyed many joint appearances with David Browning before his
death. Just to add one more tidbit. While some Tribute Artists could
be basically volunteer, David Browning is a professional actor. Doing
the Mayberry Deputy (as well as other acting) is his career.

I enjoyed seeing the clip also. Thanks for sharing that.

Names of Episodes in Dialog

2010-08-02 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
Well now we have some impressive lists thanks to Neil Bentley and
Harriet the Chicken Thief.

Leave it to a Lawyer to throw more paperwork at you that you can handle.

Amongst Neil's List (and Your Honor I have to disqualify the ones with
just one word besides The or A like The Inspector the Manicurist
((which I already 10-4ed) The Lodge, Cannon, Bazaar-those are just too
easy) but beside those an impressive list!!!

One that I was looking for that Andy says..well Harriet said it well
Somewhere, wondering
around town is a. Loaded goat.

The other one that Neil nailed was the Fun Girls. I think Thelma Lou
says if first they Seem Like Fun Girls then Later, I believe Andy and
Barney both refer to them as Fun Girls

Mr. McBeevee-that was a good one that they both came up with..and how
could I forget.

Bargain Day???I'll have to have the Boys at the lab check that
one..don't remember that A

New Doctor in Town-that one might be good..trained noticers??

Opie's Most Unforgettable Character...are you sure somebody says that
including Opie's???

Suppose Andy Gets sick=--Don't remember hearing that

Mr. Bentley we'll file a continuance and have to do more investigation,
just leave your card..no no I didn't say that..we'll be in touch. Why
don't you go back to the Miracle Salve case for a while.

Other guesses?? Can Anyone debunk any of these??

Title in the Dialog--spoken by characters

2010-08-01 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
Thanks to Mike CJ Becker and David Quinn for these answer so far, to my
question..what Episodes Titles (with more than one word beside the or a)
are contained in the Dialog spoken by characters.

Mike, your answers are all new to meand I can picture two of them
being spoken. I'll have to wait for the official verification (me
watching the DVD ) on Stranger in Town, but I'll bet you are right.

The Keeper of the Flame, Stranger in Town, Battle of Mayberry

Mike CJ Becker/Ernest T Bass

Now David, you nailed one of my three, good job. That one is probably
the most memorable.

Regarding the title of the show being spoken in the dialogue, the
most famous one would of course be Citizen's Arrest. Not only did
Gomer run across the street yelling Citizen's Arrest, Citizen's
Arrest, but Barney later tells Andy Old nutsy here runs across the
street yelling citizen's arrest, citizen's arrest.

But the other two I have in mind are still out there, so I can't 10-4 ya
yet

The hints are ..One is spoken by Andy, in a rather concerned tone of
voice.

The other one I'm thinking of is spoken by Andy And Barney and One other
person, I believe.

And Yes Mike Manhunt would be good if it was two words...buts it's just
one word like you were (wait that's two words...who was lurking around
Weaver's at night?)

...more answers welcome.

Marsha and Ken, it s good to hear about James Best. His usual shtick at
shows would be to come out with a guitar and Sheet music for Rock and
Roll Rosie from Raleigh...and talk while holding the guitar as if he is
eventually going to play, which of course he never did.

Those old stars are great to have around, and it saddens me to hear that
another one. Mitch Jayne, has fallen gravely ill. One of the few
Mayberry Events I've been lucky enough to attend..the curtains opened to
the familiar music of the Darlings, and Pipe Smoke created a cloud above
Mitch as he puffed away, and The Dillards played familiar songs with
Mitch strumming the String Bass. It was one of the goose-bump
feelings when you think you are really transported back to Mayberry.
Then, Mitch came up to the Microphone and talked about the Andy Griffith
Show. He talked about how hard they all laughed when they filmed the
scene where the Darling boys were all sleeping and snoring..and how many
takes it took, because they could not stop laughing. He also talked
about his line bout to pop and shared great memories of Denver
Briscoe Pyle.

My thoughts and prayers to the Jayne family.

Titles in Dialog

2010-07-30 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
I've noticed before that in two or three episode in particular, the
Title of the Episode (minus a small word such a or the) is included in
the actual words spoken by the characters..three times I think..by
different characters in one case, multiple times by two characters in
another, and once by Andy in another. As with most discoveries, there
are probably more than I recall, so I'll post this as a trivia question.

What episodes is the actual title to the episode included in the spoken
words of the characters?

Now, as I post the link below, for anyone who does not have a book with
the Episode names, it occurs to me that there are several one-word
Titles that might qualify such as the Jinx and the Manicurist so
I'll just say the ones I have in mind have at least two words..(besides
a or the)

Here is a link to episode names

http://mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/anewsome/private/ep_guide.htm

I'm sure you can find my three, perhaps many more.

Maybe we can have some other Dialog about how Episode title were
established. Before Books and tapes/DVDs, they were probably largely
unknown outside the writers/creators..

..Enjoyed the podcast about Other if the Darling boys talked there
could have been a line about..this is Rodney and this is my Other

Schwamp or not

This is for the Schwamp aficionados out there. I just finished
watching the
last episode of season five, Banjo Playing Deputy, and I noticed a
possible
appearance by Mr. Schwamp. I say possible because one can only see
him from
the rear. Therefore, there's probably no way to get an official
verification
on this, but I thought I'd throw it out there and see what you think.

His appearance occurs 5:22 into the episode. It's just after Andy has
talked
to the owner of the Sultan's Favorite show and is walking through the
carnival,
right before he (literally) runs into Jerry Miller...Janet

Janet, this is a very good find, but in my opinion it is not Mr.
Schwamp.
This man, while the back of his head certainly resembles Schwamp, he
has kind of a long back and is athletic looking...where Schwamp is,
well, short stocky and frumpy.

Griffith Show gets another Honor--and more stiff

2010-07-07 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
I was browsing through TV guide Magazine at a local store tonight, and
discovered a nice surprise. They had a fan-base poll of the favorite TV
guide covers for each decade, and guess who won for the 60's??

Well go ahead and guess.

The Andy Griffith Show. ((sorry I didn't let you guess) It was a 1961
cover with Opie and Andy. There was some mention of a new Kind of
Sheriff, the friendly kind. For you collectors its the one of Opie kind
of over Andy's head. I'm looking for an online link but have not found
yet, it just goes to a video where they talk about Lucy and some of the
other winners.

The covers were not only favorite pictures but they were iconic shows of
the decade like Lucy of the 50's Carol Burnett of the 70's Cosby,
Seinfeld and so on..and Any Griffith is the anchor of the 60s!!!

This is Big, it's really big!!

should have kept that Deputy Daughter as part of the act.

I've been asked a few questions about Petey's letter to Ken, so I have
to give a full confession before I am leave for a week here. I made
Petey up, because I think at times I'm jealous of people Like Ken who
have more time to pursue their hobby/passion. Yes, he was a little like
Opie, but ornerier, kinda like me, when I was a boy.

This past weekend we wer at a zoo and had a great time with a couple of

I watched 'The Big Bang Theory', this past Monday night. Funny show,

it said they were named
after Sheldon Leonard, executive producer of TAGS. TAGS is

Margaret, thanks for sharing this!! I love that show (I hope I don't

names came from Sheldon Leonard. Duh!! what a revelation, Thank You.

We've got Goober taking Cars apart, Emmett taking Toasters apart, Fred

Speed Speed Speed

2010-06-02 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
Guys

Below is my take on your points on that safety aspect of the Car in the
Courthouse

In the episode Goober Takes a Car Apart, what safety point did
Sheriff
Jackson think the car in the courthouse was bringing across? He did not
elaborate
Any further on the statement.

That maybe one of those things we have to figure out for ourselves.
Personally I think opening the courthouse door, walking inside and
suddenly
seeing a '58 Rambler staring you in the face, emphasizes the point that
you
need to watch where you're walking and be aware of your surroundings,
since
cars can often come out of nowhere. Kind of an odd way to make the
point but
you have to admit it's eye-catching and memorable. Dixon

Untrained Commentary:
Don't forget that as Sheriff Jackson came in, Goober was talking about
Gilly Walker and how he would Speed Speed Speed in that car.

Since Goober had just taken the car apart ( and Andy acknowledged
that)..perhaps they were envisioning that he could remove some key parts
to show (make visible) things like the brakes being worn out..the engine
making noises..and other costly/negative results of erratic driving.

Goober could probably also come up with a fender from a wrecked car
where someone had pushed it too far, and collided. That would make
another nice visual.

Putting these things together as a visual display might make a more
effective safety campaign that just having signs like don't walk on the
wrong side after dark, or you may end up playing a harp

That's how I interpreted it anyway.I hope this doesn't turn into
another bank book controversy. :-)

There was a heat wave or two also..When Andy worked on the roof, and
when Opie took off his shirt like a savage.

And don't forget the floods!!

In the basement of that house Andy was going to buy..was it the Williams
place?? And The Church..when Howard engineered the leveling.

I think I remember it rained Cats and Dogs once. I think that's how
Fluffy ended up on the roof.

Oh and plagues too!! The infestation of the Aphids and don't forget
the plague of the salve...that stuff was all over town.

Fair weather??? not all the time Dewey..why they couldn't even get a
sunny day for the big Gold Truck pass-through.

I was once knew a weatherman intern named Ray Norshine. He could never
make up his mind.

One-hit wonders

2010-05-13 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
While watching Stranger in Town this morning, I got to thinking
about people
who lived in Mayberry who only appeared one time on Andy. In this show,
there
was Lucy Matthews and her brother Bill. They had big parts in this
show, but
were never seen again. Then there were the Merry Makers of Moonshine,
The
Morrison Sisters. You would have thought that if these people lived in
town we
would have seen them again occasionally in the next 8 years

There have been some good answers to David's Question, and I'm not as
sharp on remembering things like the King of Mayberry and Mike The
Scamp are, but I am going to go back to the original observation of
David's. I think this episode features more one-time Mayberry people
(those who appeared to live and work there) than any other. In
addition to those he mentioned, there was George Sepley who owned the
gas station prior to Wally, Mrs. Buntley, Jason, Pete ..and the other
Floyd and or course Ed Sawyer.

My old joke from a few years back was that Ed Sawyer kidnapped all these
people, took them away and started his own home-town called
Sawyerberry...and that, David, is why we never saw them again. He and
Lucy are very happy together and Had a Son named Tom.

Aunt Bee's Beau

2010-05-12 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
Aunt Bee was engaged to the captain of the ship that she took a tour
on.
The actor was Will Greer who played Grandpa Walton. However, when he
retired he could not adjust to being a landlubber so Aunt Bee graciously
let
him go back to sea.

I could remember it was a guy in a white suit..but I was not sure if he
was a Sea Captain or a Milk Man. Of course it my uniform, What do you
want me to wear a Milk Man Suit??!

And I knew he had to travel around dealing with various creatures, but I
couldn't remember if it was sharks and whales ..or Aphids on Roses.

A Sea Captain..are you sure it wasn't a Wiper on an Oil Tanker? No that
was Andy's cousin, I think.

Otis wore a white suit and he dealt a lot is liquids, but he wasn't Aunt
Bee's type. She was more like a prison warden to him.

She could have tried letting him tool around Myers lake in a row boat
for a while to see if that scratched his itch...but no, he had to go
back to Kelsey's Ocean..what a shame!!

About a week ago, I was watching the Celebrity Apprentice. One of the

laryngitis the day before. She started making some weird sounds with
her finger in her mouth. Her teammates knew that she was trying to
warm up her voice..but it looked and sounded pretty weird. I was
expecting her to belt out a meee they me they I ooo uu I

I had to laugh and thing of Barney and his Vocal Calisthenics, I guess

Ken, I love hearing your stories about your supermarket. I'd love to

one question. Do you know anything about cutting meat? (they might

Thelma Lou's Job and a movie

2010-05-06 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
Concerning Thelma Lou's job, there was one episode, I do not
remember which one, that Thelma Lou is in the courthouse and she says I
have to get back to the office. Therefore, Thelma Lou works in an
office. I do not think there were any other hints about where she
worked. I have always imagined that she was the receptionist for some
doctor or dentist. But that is just me thinking

David, you're actually correct with your facts...but I'm going to jaw
with you a little on your speculation.

Thelma Lou actually had Gomer drive her to the Dentist in Mt. Pilot..so
I don't think she worked for A Dentist in Mayberry. When we saw
Doctor's offices in Mayberry, they generally just had a nurse, if any
employee besides the Doctor.

I think she worked at a small Insurance office, or Utility Office..such
a Mayberry Water and Power..or Electric. I base that on offices in my
small town growing up.

IF anyone goes to see the Movie, The Back-up Plan (starring Jennifer
Lopez) ..watch for a nice Mayberry reference/sighting

primary voting day in Indiana

2010-05-04 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
Today is Primary day here in Indiana.

Whenever an election day comes, I conjure up images of the memorable
Mayberry Elections. Barney vs. Andy, Howard Vs Aunt Bee, and Sam Jones
Vs Emmett.

In this election, we are voting for a new Sheriff, and the incumbent is
backing a current Deputy. It reminds me of Andy in Return to Mayberry,
supporting Barney until things change and Andy runs.

I was hurrying down the steps of my polling place and slipped past a few
steps, catching myself before taking a seat. A few campaigners out
front asked me if I was OK. I'm just glad Barney was not there telling
me that I had to fill out an accident form and get it notarized. Hold
on to your card there Neal Bentley ..I'm not suing the county for
negligence, when I slipped on my own feet on perfect paved steps.

To me, a couple of pressing questions about Mayberry elections are:

Why wasn't the Courthouse ever used for a polling place?? I guess City
Hall or wherever they had those meeting must have been the place?

Why was Howard at Andy's House on election night. As County Clerk,
wouldn't he be one of the voting officials?

It makes you think, just like a bucket on the head.

Ken I think you need to cut that article out of the paper and frame
it...and have Marsha put it up in her basement at the Mayberry Inn that
is being done up like the courthouse. Then next time you go there (and
we all know how often you like to visit) you can be in that basement in
your street clothes visiting with other fans (or possibly crooks) ,
pretending to be just a normal Mayberry fan.

They will look over and see your picture of you in your deputy

fanatical Deputy dressing-up full blown case for the books. Then they
will steal your pen and try to break out of the basement (er jail).
Just tell them your name is Puddingtame. It will be great!!!

Actually, I had a bad case of call the man going, or I would have dearly

It is to my great loss, but sorry I missed all of you. My internet service had

Bout to pop--Jayne's claim

2010-04-21 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
I was watching the episode where the Darling's are coming to town to
pick up
PFC Dudd Wash. When they are in the cell eating the white beans and
they are
handing their plates to Aunt Bee, one of them says Bout to pop and
then when
she is leaving you can see one say Night. So looks like to me that
there are
two times I can tell that they actually talk. Does anyone else hear
this and
is there any other times they say anything?Steve

Steve, at one of a couple of events I have been able to attend, Mitch
Jayne spoke about this. He is the bass-playing pipe-smoking Darlng boy.
It was he that uttered bout to pop and he claimed that this was the
only words spoken by any of the Darling boys. As I'm sure you've heard
the story, they were not part of the actors union, but were paid as
musician/background actors, so they were not given lines.

Your spotting one of them saying night may bust Mitch's claim to a
small degree.

if he only had Opie's Pa

2010-04-19 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
If only he had Opie's Pa

Recently I watched as the world's most famous golfer was being
interviewed after finishing in the top four in one of the most
prestigious Golf Tournaments in the world, the Masters. Without saying
too much, this individual had been off the tour for about five months
due to some personal issues of his own doing.

I thought that coming in cold like that, he would be pleased just to
finish as well as he did.

But do you know what he said.? It sounded very similar to Opie's little
fit about not winning a medal. He said I entered the tournament to win,
and since I didn't do that, I am not happy.

I was disappointed with the response, because I had really been a fan of
this golfer, but something rubbed me the wrong way about that answer.

Then, it occurred to me that it sounded an awful lot like the ranting of
a little boy who did not win the 50-year dash medal.

Hopefully since this golfer's paw is not around anymore, someone will
provide him some Andy Taylor like counseling.

Hopefully he has someone like Andy that he looks up to, that he will
want to make proud.

Mayberry and Hoosiers connections

2010-04-09 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)

Has anyone else ever noticed the similarities between the town in the
Movie Hoosiers and Mayberry?

You could pick up the local l rumors at the Gas Station.

A teacher was a well-respected member of the community that the main
character fell in love with.

There was a prominent sheriff, a minster, and Local farmers who spent
time in the Local barbershop discussing all things local, political,
etc..

They, at first, frowned on an outsider, before understanding and
accepting him.

There was a lovable town drunk.

One key element of the dramatic closing scene was the proposed used of a
decoy

I'm probably biased, being an actual Hoosier, but this is a wonderful
film that, while being about sports, is all about small town life in the
50's. It was in Indiana, but not much different than North Carolina.

We've been watching Hoosiers a lot here in Indiana, because one of our
local Colleges, Butler, played out that David vs. Goliath
storyline..almost to a movie script ending.

Take a look at it, if you never have..it's based on a true story.

Basketball is the sport, I think that was under-emphasized in Mayberry.
Other than a few vague references (a basketball for a gift..and Aunt Bee
and Clara playing in Grammar School) Basketball is never mentioned or
shown.

When I was writing, Fan Fiction..or as I called them, Lost Episodes,
that's why I decided to write one about basketball. It was one of the
three main things I never saw in our favorite show..but wished I had.

For the record, those three things are..The Story of Opie's Mother, A
story about basketball, and another Christmas episode..What would you
have liked to see more about?

Observations on Opie's Rival and life lessons from the Bed Jacket

2010-04-05 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
I watched an Episode this weekend with my daughter and we noticed a
couple of things.

1) This was an episode about Andy's love life, and getting a new
girlfriend, that Barney was NOT involved in. This is when he gets
serious about Peggy. In The County Nurse (where Peggy first appears
and tries to give Rafe a flu shot) Barney is around, but Andy is just
getting acquainted with her. Then, 3 episodes after Opie's Rival,
Barney does get involved because he thinks Peggy is too rich for
Andy...but for this one episode, (Opie's Rival) Barney was not around to
interfere with Andy's love life..remember any others??

2) The other thing we noticed is, in the beginning of the episode,
Peggy is wearing a dress, like most ladies in Mayberry do every day
(whether cave exploring, picnicking or whatever), ...but she is in a row
boat!!, Then later, when Opie invites her to go fishing again, she
shows up in slacks/pants..probably for the first time in a TAGS episode
that a lady wore slacks. Why the wardrobe change mid-show??

After my daughter had had a rough weekend with her boyfriend, we all
happened to sit down and watch the episode, the Bed Jacket. What a
perfect episode to illustrate some life lessons like:
Women's feelings can be fragile
Men can be clueless at times
A little attentiveness a women's wishes can go a long way.
Little misunderstandings can cause great hurt

Small cast counts and Ron Howard

2010-03-23 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
We have an interesting discussion going on about Episodes with the
fewest actors.

Now if I put on my Andy hat, I'd say we need a common uniform score
sheet, that might be set up something like this.

Main characters,Guest stars,Speaking Background
actors, Nonspeaking background actors

A MAIN CHARACTER would like Andy Opie..all the way through Goober
Gomer, Howard, Thelma Lou Helen.
The Book Inside Mayberryby Harrison and Habeeb, has a good chart in
the back that you can look at to see what main characters were in which
episodes etc.

GUEST STARS would be Like Ernest T Bass, Briscoe Darling, Uncle
Ollie, Aunt Nora, John Masters, Clara etc.

If you use the Database that Allan has on the website, you can get a
good list of the combination of Guest stars and Main characters..and
also the next category..SPEAKING BACKGROUND ACTORS. This would be like
Tom Hamilton, Jud, Asa,

So for those three categories..you can get a pretty good count.

The toughest is the NONSPEAKING BACKGROUND ACTORS, therefore
non-credited background actors. You pretty much have to watch and
count. (Mr. Schwamp among them)

The Biggest Crowd scene I can think of, were the Gold Truck Episode, The
Baseball Game, the Seth Taylor statue Dedication, when the Governor
came, etc..and the crowd in Opie's dream when he won all those
medals..Other big crowd scenes I'm sure.

So entries should say things like

3 main characters, no guest stars, 2 speaking background on 0
nonspeaking background

0r

5 main characters 2 guest stars, no background actors at all

At least that's how I would score it.

Entertainment Magazine has the sad tale of an adult who was a child star
who had died ..and it talks about the difficultly that Child stars
often have after growing up.Then it lists 8 child stars who made it
big as adults...#1 on the list..Ron Howard. That's our boy!!!

I think the last we saw of Mr.Schwump was when he attended Mrs.

have eventually found his soul mate. (I think he had a wild streak in

appearances. (and by the way it is speed with an a check the books).

Let me direct you to the webpage I built (with Allan help) on the

There are 25 appearances AFTER Mrs. Wileys, not counting Andy's wedding
on Mayberry RFD and a few Gomer Pyle USMC appearances. Yes he made the
rounds quite often, but you have to be looking for him. Like Nice Dress
Nellie, he kinda floats in without making a sound.

I love that line your brought up about the stag line. We hear that line
twice, I believe, but the other time it's about a Mr. Perkins. Anybody

I wonder if he ever did Radio?? That's just a tip of the hat to Allan/s

Cary Grant said it

2010-03-04 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
We all know that Goober's impression of Cary Grant was a rapid fire
Judie Judie Judie

Last night while browsing in a book store, I ran across a biography of
Cary Grant. Knowing little more about the man, I was surprised to scan
and find in the index a reference to Judie Judie Judie

The Author stated, that as we have heard in the Digest before, Cary
Grant never said that in a movie...and when asked about it, he publicly
denied ever saying it. But, there was indeed a promotion short for the
film..Only Angels have Wings (today we would call it a trailer) where he
did actually utter a memorable Judie Judie Judie. If I remember
right, he started somewhat quietly and spoke the second and third each
slower, more deliberate and slightly louder that the previous.

So Goober surely saw that promo when he went to watch a monster movie.

So there you have it

More on Nice Dress Nellie

2010-02-01 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
My one claim to fame is that I came up with Nice Dress Nellie. It
is
based on a comment in one episode Andy made to Nellie about her dress.

I'm hoping to maybe get invited to Mayberry Days as one of the
celebrities.
They can introduce me from the stage and I'll smile and nod.

Dan

I would like to provide unofficial Verification to Dan's claim (official
verification, as we know, only comes in the mail). I remember when he
dubbed her with this moniker.

My Claim to fame on this nice lady is that I (with Allan's help)
built her Character Webpage, listing as many of her appearances as I
have been able to detect/recall at the time. (but I'm sure there are
more)

What has not been mentioned, is that she, like Mr. Schwamp remains a
mystery as to her real name.

Someone confused the episode that Andy mentioned her nice dress (When
Barney locks everyone up in jail) with the one where she appears as one
of the girls Barney sends over for Andy to choose from. That's an
understandable mistake because that episode, I believe, is the only one
that she actually speaks.

Here is that webpage I mentioned. It has her picture.

http://www.mayberry.info/history/index.php?title=Nellie

One of the more interesting appearances (and it's hard to tell from a
distance that it is her) is when all the guys bring their car to Gomer
at Andy's house...She is among those who pull up and get out. She is
often seen with Tom Jacobs , as someone mentioned, and it also seen at
times arriving with Mr. Scwamp.

Sometimes her appearance is a very fleeting walk-through and you have to
stop the DVD/Tape to see that it is her.

She is Miss Mayberry/everywoman.

David Lewis (aka the Reverend J Edward Breen-What's your hurry?) in a

Mrs. Mendlebright..not quite believable as Grandma Pyle (she looked

Brian I don't know of you caught this, because the question went on

My trivia question--Canadian

2010-01-13 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
The Canadian famous name that I was looking for (that is on the cover
of GAMES magazine this month) was Glen Ford.

Him being a G-man and everything...I just assumed he was a US
citizen.

All together now Untrained Voice, That's the actor in the man.

I'm still stumped by the other Trivia question out there.

I thought it might be Otis and Thelma Lou, but that's not it ,or Otis
and Helen.

Remember the questioner said: Same season main characters...so it Can't
be Howard and Barney..or Ellie and Thelma Lou.

I'm making the assumption Appeared in the same episode counts..we're not
talking never appeared together in same scene are we?

Thanks Ken for the note. Glad Tom is doing OK. I was more worried
since we hadn't heard from him than the scam.

What numbered law is that?? Impersonating an Andy Griffith/Classic TV
fan??I'll bet it was Norman Feldspar or the guy with the treasure
map or one of those con men.

I too missed the conference call. My typical work day is full or
conference calls, but this would have been a nice change. I guess I'm
going to have bring my work into the courthouse so I did not forget next
time.

A Local Station here in Indianapolis (WXIN) has broadcast TAGS for years
at noon. This year I got a rude awakening one of the rare days I can
slip away from work at lunch to watch...they took it off. I have the
whole DVD set, but there is still something special about watching it
live knowing that there are others watching, even though they edit out
parts for commercial time. (they replaced it for now with another
brainless talk show). I do get TVland so I'm thankful for the ones the
air. They (WXIN) always had an Andy episode and then a Lucy.. and then
Matlock. Ironically Matlock is still on at 1:00, so if I need a real
Andy fix I guess I can take a late lunch and catch a glimpse of Ben.

I have great memories of my Dad coming home from work for lunch and
watching Andy Griffith. I hope they bring it back. Maybe I'd better
write a Lawyer letter and threaten to blacklist them. I'm not trying
to start a moulage here, just sharing my sad news.

Nita Kuhns Summertown, Tn

Nita, You have a very similar thought to what I had about 6 years or so

would have like to have seen.

It's kind of playing with fire because the original is nearly perfect,

Christmas Episode and thoughts

2009-12-19 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)

Thanks Janet and Allan for the attention on the Christmas Episode.
Normally I watch on Christmas Eve, but I decided to have a preview to
keep an eye on the Christmas Card Caper. Good discovery. Very
interesting (listen to Two Chairs, No Waiting Podcast if you have not
yet). As one additional comment on the cards.. did you notice that
Barney tacks them up sideways? Who indeed messed up the bulletin
board???

Another interesting tidbit, why did the prisoners in jail at the
beginning have presents in jail with them?

Someone mentioned getting a tear in the eye when Ben sings. I do as
well, but for me, what make both eyes moist is when Aunt Bee says Ben
The whole show, he had been trying to join the party. The whole time he
was a lonely outcast. He longed for the fellowship and joy, and that
home cooking. That hospitable enchanting calling of his name, Ben let
him know that he had finally succeeded. What a moment! That plate of
food and cup of drink signified the completion of his long-for goal of
acceptance. Can't you feel his joy?

This week I wish you all a moment when someone calls your name (like
Aunt Bee did Ben's) . Maybe it's to the dinner table. Maybe it's a
greeting when you step into a home. Maybe it's an invitation for a hug,
or to get your attention to hand you a gift...but be ready for that joy
of your name being called.

Do everything that you can to keep yourself from having to sing through
the bars alone.

The celebration in Jail instead of a home is also meaningful to me. For
the last 8-10 years of my father's life, we had to celebrate Christmas
in the Community Room of his nursing home. We made it Christmas right
there, thanks to Mom and all her planning. Maybe some will celebrate
Christmas in a hospital..or from home but in bed...or over the phone
across a distance...or perhaps a restaurant..but wherever it is.. Enjoy
the simple pleasures of traditions and family and friends. And don't
forget the subject of Ellie and Andy's Song.

Thanks for the awesome Card, Newsome's. First class, as usual!
Merry Christmas

a neat experience

2009-12-08 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
I have to add to what my new friend Mike, The Scamp, said the other day (below)

Saturday, I drove about an hour to the little town of Danville Indiana.

As I drove into the cheery little town, a billboard beckoned me Lawson's
Enterprises (or something like that). When I got to the courthouse I knew I
was about there. I pulled into a parking space, got out and looked up and saw
the sign across the street Mayberry Café, with an authentic squad car parked
out front. Yes, I was home!

As I approached the street to cross, a small gathering came together in front
of the Café. it was unmistakable! Goober, Briscoe Darling, and Mayor Pike.. I
was home with friends from my favorite town.. I couldn't wait to get across
the street and shake their hands..but I had to. The sign Said WAIT, and it was
a busy street. I would have gotten more that my foot ran over, like Barney.
After what seemed a very long wait, I finally crossed and met the beloved
townsfolk.

We went upstairs, there was another small gathering of Mayberry townsfolk, some
from as far away as the next states, Illinois and Ohio.
There were some couples who had been to Mayberry days, Some who had
been on the Mayberry cruise, some families who had Mayberry rooms in their
house with wonderful collections of memorabilia. What great stories were
shared. We even had a young Jim Lindsey, who played Jim's audition song for us
on his guitar. That boy is good..where was the Shoe Salesman when we needed
him? That was Danna from Indiana's boy.

Oh and the food. It was Goood!. Briscoe even peeped in the kitchen
and said things looked good. Briscoe's darling person Pat, she was so
gracious, organizing it all. I think she was surprised I showed up as a real
person. She thought the Untrained Voice was kind of a figment. or maybe a
spirit like the Count, or just some Hands on a keyboard, I'm not sure.
We took pictures, got autographs, did I mention the food was good?
Mayor Pike made a little speech,,and so did Goober.

I just got home from the Mayberry Cafe in Danville Indiana, and all I can
say thanks to the Mayberry Cafe for having us. Thanks also Tim, Eric, and
Bob, AKA Goober, Mayor Pike, and Briscoe, and to all the fans that were
there . I was so thrilled to meet Joe... See ya in New Castle. Merry
Christmas to all. Mike The Scamp Haviland

It was a great time, and most of all, great people. Thanks Mike, you've

world where I could write over a hundred messages about Mr. Schwamp, and
somebody cared to read it. (I've still got a good 50 in me so watch

Convict at Large was a great episode for Barney and Floyd.? My

Hope everyone has a happy and safe Thanksgiving and a BIG thanks to

This may have been mentioned before, but when Barney walked into
Eleanora Poultice's house/Studio, the sign on the door says Singing
Piano and Dancing lessons(order ??). How ironic, that Reta Shaw, who
also played Big Maude, had already danced with Barney as Big Maude.

Big Maude should have given him an A in leading and B in holds.

I'm not sure that that pronunciation is so rare, even today. I wish our

I've been doing a little genealogy research in my spare time. Kind of
like being my own Mayberry Historical Society.

A couple of interesting facts so far.

I have an Aunt Nora..who's husband's name begins with an O (like
Ollie).

I have some ancestors who served in the Revolutionary war. One of them
was given an assignment by George Washington. Impressive huh? Well,
his assignment was to get supplies for the soldiers at Valley Forge.
From what I've read about Valley Forge, those soldiers nearly froze and
starved..so I guess it's kind of a hybrid Battle of Mayberry/ Seth
Taylor story. Right? I'm still looking for my Nathan Tibbs.

You never hear Andy say to Helen I can't go out tonight because I have

Door of Fellowship. Jerry Graber

Jerry

Largely a good observation, and I'll be just one of probably a
half-dozen nitpicking Trained noticers that will disagree with you on
the bowling part;

With Lydia Crosswaite they talked about going bowling
When Emmet went to check out furs, he told he wife that he and Andy we
going bowling
I think there was one other time that Andy was wearing a bowling shirt.

Golden Door-your right other than when Andy and Barney joined the
Esquire Club..their lodge meeting night was mentioned I think.

Barbershop quartet-I think you're right. Various Choral groups.. but no
other quartet.

Band Practice-well there was the Marching Band...but probably different
group.

It was a big deal back then just to be consistent within an
episode..they did not pay much mind to one episode after another.. Those
events were often one Episode wonders

One of the rare past-episode tie-ins was when Barney was in the choir,
and Andy reminded him about his lecture about IN our Life we travel
many roads which of course was from Barney's lecture to Gomer when he
was to meet (Nice Real nice) Mary Grace.

Alvy Moore Connection--my home town

2009-10-15 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)

I wrote about my class reunion a few days ago. I had so many people to
talk to that I forgot to talk to one lady about a possible connection to
our favorite show. I seemed to remember from elementary school that
this girl's uncle, an actor, once came to our school. His name was Alvy
Moore who played as a regular Hank Kimball on Green Acres. He also made
an appearance on TAGS as a salesman in the Episode where Aunt Bee
Babysits for Evie Joy.

As I got older, the memory kind of faded, and the conflict came into my
mind that she spelled her name Mohr, and he spelled his Moore. I
thought maybe I had just dreamed it or been duped by a friend or a
rumor.
One of the things we did before the event was exchange basic info, so I
had her email address and wrote her with the question after the fact.
Here is her answer with a neat bit of family trivia.

Hello Joe. Yes, my uncle was Alvy Moore. He was married to my dad's
sister, Carolyn. Of course her maiden name was Mohr, so she kept her
same name, just spelled differently (when she married Alvy Moore). He
died May of 1995. He was on Green Acres. His daughter works on Foley
work for movies. That means she does the background noise. (walking,
opening a door, etc.) She actually has won an Emmy for her work. I went
out to Calif. last June to visit her and my aunt (Alvy's widow). Ten
days after I got home, my aunt died

So there you have it. Alvy Moore trivia..his Indiana connection and
successful daughter.

A real veterinarian with Miracle salve?

2009-10-14 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)

One of the shows that I enjoy watching that does not take place in a
small town in the 50's and 60's is Shark Tank

On this week's episode there was a veterinarian who claimed to have a
Pet Food that can prevent Cancer and other diseases in Pets.

He appeared credible, but did not have the clinical study proof. Here
is the Doctor and his product.

http://www.cornucopiaexpress.com/

I so wanted him to say it also cured the mange (he didn't)... but he
did make lots of claims about heart disease, kidney disease, and things
like that.

With all that power, surely mange would be a piece of cake, don't you
think?

Anyway I called Doctor Pendyke and we ordered a gross. Is that 24 cans
or 24 cases?

I think to be safe though, I'll have it shipped to Ritchie Cunningham
Senior.

Thanks for all the good words about my class reunion story. I'm glad you
enjoyed.

Most Characters

2009-10-06 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)

In what episode was there the most TAGS players?

Since I didn't get any help or concern or the great Aphid Invasion In
Indiana, and the return of Henry Bennett to do some spraying from Aunt
Bee's air plane...I'm going to weigh in on Tom's question.

Tom K, this is an interesting questions and you will probably get varied
answers, but I will jump in where I can here and try to hang-on. The
question is what do you consider TAGS players

Using the Book Inside Mayberry, they have a chart of main characters
that does not include Hope Summers, who you mentioned. It also does not
count the Darlings or Ernest T as main characters.

There are two episodes that I see, so far, that have eight main
characters. From the fourth season, the Rumor #125 includes Andy,
Barney, Opie, Aunt Bee, Floyd, Gomer, Thelma Lou and Helen.

In the Fifth Season, the episode #148 Barney runs for Sherriff,
includes the same group minus Floyd, plus Otis, for eight main
characters also.

Now, if you count favorite guest stars..then you could get higher than
that.

UPDATE Where's Gold-brick Wheeler when we need him?

2009-09-30 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
Don't know of everyone saw this yesterday. Click in the internet link
to see a short article about a serious Aphid Invasion. I've added an
update

look out for that bedroom-on-wheels, Handyman truck. Henry Wheeler
will be coming to the rescue soon. We've got an Aphid invasion in our
Soy Beans!!!

http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2009909280323

This is going to take more than Henry's little spray can. Now that
Aunt Bee can Fly an airplane, Henry got her to take him up with 3-
30-gallon canisters of his favorite Aphid-Away

The last time Aunt bee radioed in though, it seems like Henry is too
busy watching the clouds and telling her how they are shaped like a
woman..and inspecting roofs for loose shingles, and porches that need
painting, and looking for ice-cream parlors and such to take a lady to.

Give me that Radio Micro-phone. Hey listen there you in the co-pilot
seat Uncle Henry Andy said if you don't start spraying those Aphids
right quick, he's going to have you in the hoosegow for impersonating a
professional, fraud, and crop dusting without a license. Now you get
down here and start working with those spiders..I mean Aphids.

You just can't get good help around here.

Well Goober went up with them now because Henry hurt his back moving the
canisters around in the cargo bay. But he just accidently knocked one
of them out of the play from about 2000 feet. It landed luckily on the
Jonson farm, just missed that nice red barn, and landed in a hay
stack..where it bounced into a pig lot in a bunch of manure. Barney is
on his way, because it was reported as a UFO landing. (I didn't know
flying saucers carried canisters of insecticide).

Henry has been doing so much talking and watching clouds and such that
Aunt Bee is going to have to bring the plane in to refuel. Goober is
getting a cramp just laying in the cargo section. This doesn't look
good, Supposedly Henry is calling a buddy of his Joe Cartwright.
Cartwright apparently has a son-in-law who is an experience crop duster
(don't you think they'll as that). We'll see what happens. This will
be big news at the Count insecticide convention.

Manning of the Colts. (you remember they guy that Opie trusted with the
proper way to throw a football rather than Barney. Barney would
probably say it's a matter of taste)

Just kidding Mike, I know you mean from a Mayberry standpoint since
we're all here, and all the fun was in Mt Airy. Anyway Mike, look out

Biggest Star and Goobers digs

2009-09-16 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
I'm impressed with the knowledge and answers on the biggest star question.
During the original run, I was like Goober in the punch in the nose episode,
still comic book age.. I was going to say that Allan Hale was the Biggest
guest star, ha ha..but I didn't really have a clue. I thought Jack Nicholson
was kind of an unknown at that time.

I've been thinking about Goober. I guess he never really did outgrow the comic
books, did he? I wonder what his place would look like. Besides his cousin
Gomer, he was one of very few main characters that we never really saw where
they live. We saw Floyd's porch only..and heard about Gomer's room in the back
of the station..but never really got a clue of where Goober lived. .or what it
was like.

I'm guessing rather drab, Early American Comic Book décor...just a little
bigger than the backroom at the courthouse?? Perhaps a room on the back of a
bigger house where he could park the truck out back, and tinker around in a
detached garage off of an alley. You walk in, and it's kind of a one-room
efficiency. A refrigerator, and small stove with just a few cabinets. A
larger coffee table in front of a beat-up overstuffed couch (that also serves
as a bed) with multiple stacks of comic books on the table. On the wall, a few
worn-our movie posters of things like the Crab that ate Minnesota. A small TV
is dwarfed by a large hutch that it sits on..a family heirloom that may be the
only nice piece of furniture in the place. Besides the TV is a checkerboard
and checkers, some wrenches and a spare tire gauge.A small closet holds the
brown suit and few clean uniforms. There is a special hook for the beanie.
A small table with two chairs sit near the refrigerator. On the table is a
radio, a box of cereal, a package of cookies, and a few more Comic books, and
copies of Popular Mechanics
. Is that how you picture the Goober home?

Bench Sitting

2009-09-08 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)

Tom, you've come up with another good topic..Bench sitting.

In the Recent past, someone started a string on-who all sat in Andy's
Chair at the courthouse.

Another good one would be..who sat in the Barber's chair at Floyd's..and
this one..who sat on the bench/chair in front of the Courthouse/Floyd's
Barbershop. (is it the same bench??)

I think the bench changes from a bench to a chair or chairs at time.

When it's a bench, Ole Ben Weaver tries to steal it..in a memorable
scene.

Another memorable scene is when some old loafers are sitting on the
bench and Barney fires up the Motorcycle and leaves Andy on the Sidecar
on blocks.

As someone pointed out, Goober was a frequent bench sitter.. He once
even perched on the bench (first episode when Andy called him Goober
Beasley)

Howard sat there a few times with Andy..and Floyd, of course,..who else
(any females??) .. Got my noticing cap on Tom.

One epilog, I believe at night, Andy and Barney pull the wooden chairs
outside and sit in them also.

The Untrained Voice..longing to spend time on the Bench..just
people-watchin' with Mr. Scwamp and other loafers

Thanks for your contribution Tom K. I'll share credit with Keith for
this topic . I first asked the question about matching names between
the actor and the character in Digest 249 on Aug 27, and Keith has
supplied to most answers so far.

Fred Goss is a good pickup!!! The Burt reference is a reminder of a
good story. This was T he Lodge episode. (ironic that ya'll are
talking about blackballing and such). When Andy was walking by greeting
folks, he accidently called Burt Mustin by his real name, rather than
his character name (such as Jud). They decided to just leave the error
in.

200 acres on unspoiled loveliness

2009-09-01 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
Today I saw the Walnut Hills episode, where the Taylors tried to keep
up with the Hollanders. (Opie goes to camp, the Rich kids comes over
and Aunt Bee fixes Shrimp and Duck).

A few days ago someone mentioned Manteo, the Island when Andy lives. As
I remembered seeing him give a tour of his place...200 acres of
unspoiled loveliness is what came to mind. I wonder if he decided
then that that's where he 'd like to live??? (not Camp Winokee-but
someplace with 200 acres of unspoiled loveliness??

Keith, you did a great job with this

Speaking of trivia..who besides Mr. Griffith/Taylor used their own
first
name on the series?? So far I can come up with one background actor.

I found some. Some were semi regulars and others were just one or two
appearances. And a few were close enough to be included.
?
James Best...Jim Lindsey
?
Elinor DonahueEllie Walker (Andy once referred to Elinor's
handsome brain)
?
Josie Lloyd..Josephine Pike (Mayor Pike's daughter. She
also played Juanita Pike and Lydia Crosswaithe)
?
Fred Sherman..Fred Goss
?
Also, the most outspoken characters on TAGS, the Darling boys used their
real first names.
Doug..Doug Dillard
Rodney..Rodney Dillard
Mitch.Mitch Jayne
Dean.Dean Webb

Yes, at times they were, but not always. As you mentioned they were
also called other names like OOther.

My interesting find was Mary Grace Canfield as, of course, Mary Grace
Gossage (real nice!!)

Trivia

2009-08-27 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
I just read an interesting bit of Ron Howard Trivia.

When he was on Happy Days there is a scene where his parents
Howard and Marion come out of the Movie Music Man and talk about how
the little boy Winthrop and how he looks a lot like Richie. They were
both Ron Howard, of course.

Speaking of trivia..who besides Mr. Griffith/Taylor used their own first
name on the series? So far I can come up with one background actor.

This is just an observation. In the Seth Taylor Statue episode, Seth
Taylor is referred to as your Great great Grandfather to both Aunt Bee
and Andy. Wouldn't they be a generation apart? So maybe he was just
Aunt Bee's Great..and Andy's Great Great something to ponder.

How Andy did it---a man tied to a tree

2009-08-19 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
This is like one of those puzzles with the bent nails that it looks like
there is no way to get them apart---but after you study on it a bit,
it's possible.

How did Andy tied the crook to the tree?

1) Andy wrestles the crook to the ground, face down, overpowering
him with his law enforcement training, equal size, and the element of
surprise as he is munching on some bacon.

2) Not having his handcuffs handy, he ties his hands behind his
back..handcuff style..starting with a tight knot around his strong
(presumably right) wrist.

3) He stands him up (with his hands ties in back) and starts to
walk with him. Realizing that this is dangerous, that he could run, or
fall, he decides to change his plan, spotting the large tree.

4) He walks his over to the big tree..perhaps the crook wryly
quips..You're gonna string me up for a jail break??

5) Andy has him kneel facing the tree, as he unties just one of
(his weak) hand, holding firmly to the rope that the other hand of the
crook is still tied to.

6) Andy briskly walks the rope around the tree, and then says
Stand-up and spread your arms out on the tree The Crook complies.

7) He pulls the slack, and then ties the other arm to the tree,
making him officially a tree hugger.

So there you have it, Gang..I think that's plausible..don't you?

Very good question though , Tom k

As for Family visit...
What I like about it, besides what has been said, is that it is
so true to life.

--We miss extended family-until we have to live with them a
short time, and then we're glad for them to go.

--Love life's, and unmarried people are a popular topic-fix-ups
are always possible.

--Sleeping arrangements are always an issue (accept at the
Taylor Home INN)

--We all miss particular comforts of home, and family members
squabble as if they were at home.

--Guests always take advantage..make themselves a little
too at home

--If you've got to work..what do you do with the guests--to
keep them out of the way?

--If guests are from far enough away..they can exaggerate their
success, their town's prowess, their friend's beauty, their gas mileage
etc
..but the host is stuck with reality of 'what you see.

--Dads can be big blowhards until asked to prove it..and they
they/we run for cover.

Good points all, great acting, great comedic moments.

That one line about to Pop is the only line they spoke, according to

Congrats to the Boys on their recent honor. Thanks for sharing that

That brings up another possible item of discussion.

Sometimes, I have trouble falling asleep. With your card in hand, I
will call you from my bed at night. (now we have these new-fangled Cell
Phones..so I won't have to lean over to the ole Candlestick.) You can
sing those songs, and I'll bet I fall asleep right away)

My darling person or some other family member will walk in and see me
fast asleep with the Phone in my ear..and they wonder I wonder what
causes that!!

So whoever wants Neal to sing you to sleep just stick up your hands...I
mean ask for his Business Card.

And you know what will happen if we have bad dreams
Neal???!!!..Negligence on the part of the Singing Lawyer department.

I know what you're going to sat..Don't call while we're driving.. that
would be negligence of another sort and a big scrap metal moulage.

while driving and listening to Lawyer singing on their Cell phone.

There ought to be a couple numbered laws broken on that one. Driving

But Neal--think of it as a new Business. I'll send you a quarter for
ever time I call. If you need to sleep for an hour or two now and then
to cover all the time zones of TAGS fans,..Sarah can just hold your

Memories of Mayberry found at a fair visit

2009-08-16 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
I just had a nice day at our state faire in Indiana.

It struck me how many reminders there were of our favorite show.

First, and most obvious would be the two carnival episodes involving
the shooting gallery and the controversial dancer with the one man band
(Jerry Van Dyke)

Then there was a reminders of Wild West Show. Some items were more
promotion and hype than substance,

There is a fishing pond with lots of opportunities for fishing by kids.
It's No Myers lake ..more like a cement pond but a great opportunity for
city kids and those no around natural fishing areas. Inside the DNR
building, we see some large fish in tanks..reminiscent of Old Sam.

There were, of course, flower competitions (like Roses) and all kinds
of food items (like pickles).. in pact I think Mayberry missed an
opportunity not having a Pumpkin growing completion...very interesting.

There were white horses with riders.,,and lots of cows (but with no
riders) and many Beau-like roosters that Opie could have chosen from.
In particular I saw a boy just older than Opie with his Rooster on his
lap like a pet.

Lots of Brown-decked Sheriff and Deputy's and even mention of the
Sheriff's Association (I'm sure they have good insurance). There was
a whole building full of Bert Miler's peddling their wares. Oh..and for
eats..a Pork chop sandwich.

There was Bluegrass music, similar to the Darlings.. and many more
reminders I've already forgotten..so if you want to be surrounded by
Mayberry, and you can't make it to Mount Airy or the Taylor Home
Inn..check out your state fair, and be observant.
  ---
Thinking about the Rose competition...I always through that Mr. Simmons
was like an out of town guest..in that he had a Simmons Seed catalog
etc. Then, he shows up on the Seth Taylor Statue episode. Did you
always know he was local?..or did you think he was from Out of town as
well?

LOL moments

2009-08-12 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
Call me a hypocrite.Sometimes I grouse about topics covered over and
over again.. and here I did it with the Laugh out Loud moments.

I dug up something and reran what we've talked about several times
(maybe with different words) ..but you know what?-I'm enjoying it,
again.

To me, a measure of a true Laugh out Loud moment..is when I read your
descriptions..and I still laugh out loud just thinking about it.

What's interesting though...is occasionally I read one and don't laugh
out loud. What's funny to you..may not always be funny to me. (and
vice versa)

We should ask Sigmund Freed about that one. He probably knows why some
laughed out loud at Alexander Graham Bell right over the phone...and
some things are funny to some people, but not everyone. There may be a
few you out there that can keep a straight face, through Andy getting a
cup of water thrown in his face by Howard, Barney taking off with his
sidecar up on blocks, Barney walking in making the face when Opie ruins
his real estate sales, Otis Crying that the Old Gay Goose is dead, Andy
talking about his relationship with Fluffy..your face may just go right
to sleep...I wonder what causes that?

So here's my one confession. I've never laughed out loud about
Horationever even cracked a smile about half-a-boy, That one has
just seemed a little corny to me. Maybe it's because I've never met a
boy named Horatio. ..so maybe it's not as believable I don't know. OR
maybe it's my sensitive side.. When the words poor Horatio come out,
maybe I just get a little misty-eyed. Go ahead show me the Horatio
clip..my face could be falling asleep.

But most of what you all have sent, I totally agree with. LOL,
ROFL..just not Horatio :^[

Thanks everyone so far on the help with Stunt Doubles/ body doubles. I
think this is an interesting topic for trained noticers. I'm surprised
no one scolded me about Aunt Bee's west double when she revealed the
Badge in the Christmas episode. I could be wring, but I don't think she
was quite that petite at that point in her acting life.

Tom K, you are right about a Driver for Floyd and you too Helen..er I

You and Bob are also right about the mystery man that you call
Schwamp's brother, Very interesting. I thought he was only in Color
episodes. We may have to post him in the Mayberry Historical
Society/Gossip Club along with Nice Dress Nellie, Tom Jacobs, and Joe
Hamilton

I will say this for Garry and the Bar sign. You do see strange
signs at times on the 40 acres lot...and the show is inconsistent at
times about the dry county..though we know that there was not such a
business operating in Mayberry, otherwise Otis would not have hand to
depend on moon-shiners.

...good comment about the stunt driver in the Gold truck episode. That
could have also been the case when Barney pulled the trailer, and when
they chase the lady speeder and Ron Bailey.

Ken, after all that so- so advice for your anniversary, you might want

I was just reading Mayberry 101 because I hadn't picked it up in a

Any other stunt doubles anyone knows about? I assume Bernard Malcolm

We know that Aunt Bee had a stunt double who pushed Barney's Car and a
stunt driver who drove the car when she learned to drive. I believe she
also had a hand model when she held the baseball pictures...and a waste
model when she revealed the badge in the Christmas episode...but that's
a different topic.

I'm not sure Barney ever had a stunt Double. How could they find
someone with his build? It's a wonder they did not have someone for
Floyd after his stroke, but most of his shots were face-on so there may
have been no opportunities.
What about Goober when we wrestled Clarence Earp?

Many dangerous action scenes were implied and we never actually saw.
Opie Fighting, Andy Wrangling the Gordon Boys. Barney fell once but we
just see him on the ground. We know that Otis did his own falls when he
missed the bed, but we didn't see him fall when he sued the county,

Hats and Nip it requests

2009-07-31 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
Well Hey, we have been a little side-tracked so I wanted to ask this
question one more time.

My question to ponder today is about Ladies hats...and it has nothing to
do with Frank Myers' berries either.

In the color episode that Aunt Bee runs against Howard for town council,
the show opens with Aunt Bee's Garden Club Meeting. The camera angle in
the opening scene pans all the hats 0n their heads that are made of
beautiful and colorful flowers.

This seemed odd to me, to be at a meeting in a home, and the women were
all adorned with these fancy hats. There was not hardly a bare head in
the house. Even Nice Dress Nellie had her hat on. You would have
thought it was Easter Sunday and the scene was of church..so tell
me..was this common place for ladies to get all dolled up and fixed up
for a Garden Club meeting at someone's home? I think they even had on
their little white gloves. Of course, being I guy, I thought they
should be wearing some pruning gloves in case they wanted to do any real
gardening,

Check it out..the colors really made full use of the new color
capabilities of that day. Maybe Weavers just had a big sale and they
all went as a group to buy one.

Now me, I wear a ball cap a lot, but we don't see many of those in
Mayberry until the Baseball game. I need one of those big white
wide-brimmed jobs that Joe Hamilton and Mayor Pike, and all those guys
around town wear. Noting says Town Loafer like a big white hat.
---

We have heard about enough about that tomato, but I'm not going to
stifle anyone who wants to comment.

Like Victor said before he went on to write two back-to-back Posts about
it :-) Ok folks let's not get bogged down on this subject.

I think that besides the Home plate revelation (Opie was safe) the Cave

There were many, I think, that Andy just kept to himself (like all the

out of character Aunt Bee and secrets

2009-07-23 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
I enjoyed the discussion about Aunt Bee being out-of-Character and
dropping the vase on the purring sound.

I remember the story also that Frances Bavier said she would never say
underwear out loud-but there she was on the bus hollering at Andy in
front of Peggy( I think Peggy was there) about clean underwear.

The other instance that sticks out for me with Aunt Bee out of character
..was when she was upset with Barney over the motorcycle and she
recounts a scene in a movie where they strung a wire across a road about
neck high. I just can't imagine her suggesting such a thing for Barney,
as clothes-lining him (or worse) as he is riding by in his cycle. She
really took off the white gloves for that one!!

Does anyone else recall any great secrets in Mayberry?? (from my post
the other day about Opie being safe). I guess the safe combination
would have to go down as a great secret, since nobody remembered it, and
they had to cut in that back door. The true story of the Battle of
Mayberry was a big secret until Opie exposed it.

I know, you all remember some secrets, but your part of the virtual
Wildcats so I can't tell ya is the tick a lock that we still live
by.

After the big Gold Truck fiasco, secrets were pretty hard to keep, I
guess. DO you know what they're saying about Myra Koontz at the

Greatest Secrets in Mayberry

2009-07-21 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
Greatest Secrets in Mayberry

Yesterday I watched the Baseball Episode. ..one of my favorite color
episodes. At the end of the episode we see Helen's picture that shows
that Opie was actually safe. As she tears the photo, she and Aunt Bee
appear to make a secret pact never to tell anyone. This has to classify
as one of Mayberry's greatest secrets, and got me wondering..what are
the other great Mayberry Secrets?

To qualify for a greatest secret it has to never have been revealed.
(unlike a surprise party that we later see revealed) Also the true
facts of Seth Taylor would not count, as that was revealed as well. We
also all know who blackballed Howard Sprague. Many secrets were
revealed in Opie's newspaper as well.

It also has to be a secret among characters..not among viewers (such as
the identity of Mr. Schwamp-that is the viewers greatest secret)

So what other secrets still linger in Mayberry? It had to be addressed
in the show, and not omissions such as what happened to Ed Sawyer,
Opie's mother or other characters who disappeared.

The actual location of that buried treasure??

How Ernest T Bass got in and out of the cell by himself?

How we make Johnny Cakes-is that really a secret?

How about the Cave rescue that really didn't need to
happen!! Or other times Andy secretly protected Barney. (Capture of
Ralph Neal?)

What else are tick a lock facts/secrets known by no
more than two people??

I've been gone a few weeks. It's good to be back on
line in Digest/Mayberryland. Did anyone remember Barney's fishing garb
that he wore in the Lady speeder episode? (as another non-uniform,
non-Salt and Pepper outfit)

Pickup Trucks and Mail Splashes from Floor and pool

2009-06-29 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)

This is the episode where Gomer tries to help a family find a place
to
stay the night, and he ends up housing them in a shack in the Marine
Target Range.

...and you may recall near the end of that episode, the Model AA truck
gets
blown up! I imagine they had two on the lot which is why it seemed to

survive another day to be the Darling family truck on season 7 of The
Andy
Griffith Show. Dixon

Dixon, you may be right, but after a closer watch..I'm not sure the
truck was really destroyed. They had a nice fireball coming out of the
bed..and it looked pretty nasty from a distance, but that may have been
all special effects. If Opie can clean up a mashed penny...maybe the
stage crew could restore a somewhat blackened truck for the
Darlings...makes you think I know the chassis was still on four
wheels when Gomer went over to grab the suspenders.

As for the Mail slot discussion... I would presume there were a few
times they had to lock up, even though it was a public building
Overall the mail slot is just one of those inconsistencies we love to
spot.

Tom K,
You are quite the man for admitting the mistake on that background
actor. I had said early on that he was just in color, but I deferred to

Why didn't Barney or Andy think of this?? Cannon restoration

2009-06-26 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2009906260383

This is a charming story about a couple of Civil wars Cannons in the
Mayberry-esque town of Liberty Indiana. Also you will note mention of
Centerville Indiana, home to Digest Member Frank Johnson (I hope I got
that right). I have been through both of these towns many times and
they are very nice.

Now, why didn't the Mayberry folks think of Restoring the Cannon
instead of keeping it rusty or selling it?? I'll bet the Milo boys and
Bert would help. You know Goober and Warren (if he were there at
time) would be glad to play with the cannon.

The article tells what the initials GAR stands for. Good thing. I
would have guessed it was Tracy Rupert's brother..Garth Allen Rupert.

Enjoy

Gomer's Truck, and name list

and Gomer Pyle, USMC which I am still adding to:

http://www.imcdb.org/movie_57752-Gomer-Pyle,-USMC.html

Dixon

Dixon, how ironic. Tonight I just watched a DVD season 2 episode of
Gomer Pyle, and it's the episode that included the truck you show here.

This is the episode where Gomer tries to help a family find a place to
stay the night, and he ends up housing them in a shack in the Marine
Target Range. The father, Harper Caldwell, is played by Dabbs Greer
(who wanted to buy Andy's house) and Lottie Caldwell (no relation to
Bunny) is played by Claudia Bryan...who I believe was dish throwing
Jenny Boone on TAGS. Nice Griffith Show connections including the
familiar country road on which the truck is traveling along with, of
course, Gomer and Ronny Schell.

For the fella who asked about the list of names, there is a nice list of
names in Jim Clark and Ken Beck's book the Andy Griffith Show Book.
On Allan's Mayberry.com Website, there is an episode by episode list of
characters that are shown. (this does not include miscellaneous names
mentioned).

The names in the book are in Alphabetical order, and does included some
of those mystery characters not shown. So, bottom line..there is
perhaps not a comprehensive list, as you are proposing..but these two
tools would be helpful in your endeavor.

FW: Winslows and Two Chairs

2009-06-15 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)

Hey Brenda, in My Fair Ernest T Bass Ernest T mentions having an
interest in ol' Hog Winslow's daughter, Hogette. Barney comments that
it's a pretty name and Ernest T mentions it's French. Apparently Hog
Winslow is a mountain dwelling, poorer relation to Halceyon's Factory
owning father. I'm guessing the girls were cousins. Seems to me that
Halceyon's father should have allowed her to visit her kin up in the
mountains. Although she was not attractive, she might have caught the
attention of a mountain boy who'd feel lucky to have a big city wife.
Not to mention all the pitted prunes he could eat! Kim - Wylie

Kim, this is a wonderful little story. I had never put Winslow and
Winslow together in my head.

Now if you could just time them to the Winslow family that lives next to
Steve Urkel, that would be amazing.

Two Chairs No Waiting-The Mayberry Podcast has been great. Allan your
stories about Howard Morris remind me of your similar stories about Don
Knotts. There are many facts that we can read in books, and see on
biography-type shows..but having those personal experiences to share is
very special. For me, first of all I'm jealous, because I would have
liked to meet those great actors..but secondly your retelling of the
experiences makes me think I did know them after all. Thanks for
sharing that joy with us.

Now..I'm just trying to Imagine Floyd as a Black BeltHe wouldn't
have needed Melba's heavy Walking stick to be in the Becker PosseHe
would have nailed that Bookie Barker in a heartbeat,,,He could have
helped Malcolm Merriweather fight Ernest T Bass instead of bringing a

Squirrel story

2009-06-06 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)

A while back someone wrote in the digest about his experience of a
squirrel getting into his house through the chimney.
Yesterday evening I was watching AFV and it showed a film
strip of somebody who had a wild sqirrel running loose all
through his house and it stirred up quite a mess, knocking things off of
shelves, pictures off the walls, etc. I have to wonder if
that film strip was entered by the fellow who told us his story in the
digest.
Bob Phillips (west coast Barney) Glendale, Az

Fair question Bob, I was the perpetrator on the squirrel story on the
Digest, but I'm happy to say that there was no filing going on during my
Chevy Chase/Funniest Video moment.

Also I was fortunate that there was minimal damage from my chase. A few
cracked blinds and some clean-up, but other than that I got off easy.
(and of course so did the squirrel). Sometimes I think I still see him
out in a tree pointing and laughing,

Geography, background guy and a Mustang

2009-06-05 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)

In one of the Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C. episodes Gomer says Mayberry is 50
miles from Raleigh. In 'The Cannon' episode of TAGS the would-be museum
thief says he doesn't
know what those people are doing up in Raleigh referring to not having
papers to relieve
Goober as guard. In effect he says this twice. In 'Off To Hollywood'
Andy tells Aunt Bee
they have taken trips up to Raleigh. If up refers to north I wonder
where the idea comes
from that Mayberry would be in the Mt. Airy area. When in reality
Raleigh is nearly 150
miles southeast

Now Bert ,you're getting too Geographically Scientific. We know from
Miss Crump's class that Mayberry is somewhere's between the Atlan Ocean,
the Pacific Ocean, Mexico, Canada, Kelsey's Woods and Kelsey's ocean.
That's all that really matters.

About Tom Kessel's Extra character who see's the check. I've seen that
guy a lot too, but don't know his name.
Other than Nice Dress Nellie and Mr. Schwamp, when the series went to
color there seem to be a whole new set of background actors. Many of
them are not as familiar as the old gang that gathered around for the
famous Citizens Arrest. Maybe they just had grey clothes, and they had
to go find people with color in their wardrobe for the color episodes???

When Andy went to visit Barney Judo teacher, Mr. Osimoto? I believe he
and the person sparring were in bare feet.
Strangely when Barney was in his Karate Outfit at the Courthouse.. he
still had on shoes and socks.
Through we don't see his feet, when Briscoe was getting a bath is the
Washtub outside, he was surely barefoot

I was watching the last Episodes of Gomer Pyle Season 1 this week.

Part of the fun of watching Gomer is looking for TAGS connections and
TAGS alumni. Besides Ronny Schell and Larry Hovis, they are somewhat
few and far between. Sgt Hacker has not shown up yet.
There in the credits are names like Ruth Burch and Harvey Bullock. When
Gomer is dropped off in town to serve MP duty he is seen in Front of
Dave's Coffee Shop..so he was right there in Mayberry!! He even talked
about following Sherriff Andy Taylor's example of being a friendly
officer of the law.
...but the best part was seeing Gomer reunited with Malcolm Tucker. The
same actor plays a congressman who is visiting and encounters Gomer at
the back gate. In the episode right before, he faces Darlene Mason/
that College kid. She plays a movie star again that Gomer is gaga over.

idea for him to wear such a?cap came from real filling station mechanics
who worked under cars on lifts, and that the upturned brim all the way
around the cap was to keep oil that dripped on the mechanics head from
running down onto his face and neck. Paul Mulik

Wow Paul, you are the man of many answers! Just last week we learned on
the Mayberry Podcast, what the answer to the Riddle was..What did the
Mirror say to the Dresser?

Now the source of Goober's beanie!! Do you reckon we'll find out soon
what they were saying about Myra Koontz down at the Lingerie shop?

Wasn't Ernie Gilley the guy that owned the car that Goober
dis-assembled in
the courthouse?

No Ted that was Giley Earley...I mean Gilley Walker. That speed speed
speed just kept him in trouble. After getting his license suspended he
went to the Marines for a hitch with Gomer, and then after that he ended
up in a German Prison Camp.

Hey did you see that Clint Howard is going to be in that new movie about
the Smith Brothers Institution (Night at the Museum) . I can't wait to

Now I'm going to be very cautious here, because I don't want to start a

remind you of the Cannon? You all wanted to close it and get rid of
it. Now nobody wants the prisoners!! We're going to have to pay
someone to haul them off I think Barney would have voted to keep it.
Feel free to comment on the joke, but not the real issue, please. Keep

episode. ?Silvia, Laura Lee Hobbs' coworker

I don't know how to spell Crosthwaite but Lydia works in Mt. Pilot.
That's why we don't get to see too much of her.
She's originally from Greensboro, not the island of Lydia in Greece.
Karen

Actually Sylvia, Karen is right..Thelma Lou says Lydia works over in
Mt. Pilot. That's why we don't get to see her that often.

I did watch the DVD, Barney mends a Broken heart. So, that would be
easy to get confused. When I brought up that Lydia lived in Mayberry..I
was thinking more of the episode where she was Goober's Girlfriend. I
knew that she was a local girl in that one. No wonder she needed new
tires thought..all that commuting to Mt. Pilot to work.

Of course before that, she was Juanita Pike and before that..oh wait,
I'm getting too deep here.

Of Trained Voices and other mysteries

Of Trained Voices and other mysteries

The biggest surprise of all was that it featured Jim Gomer Pyle
Nabors in an uncredited role.? Jim obviously was using his regular
voice, which was much lower that Gomer's.? He had a beard and glasses,
but the face matched.? I checked on imdb.com and it was indeed him.?
This must have been filmed after he first appeared on TAGS in the Man
in a Hurry episode in January 1963.? It was really strange hearing him
speak in a non-Gomer voice.? All this time I assumed that was the way
he actually talked!? Shazam!!! You should check this out the next time
it rolls around!
John Worsham Hendersonville, TN

John, having seen Jim make appearances when he is not Gomer, I knew
that his real voice was more like Opie Taylor Senior, than Gomer.

If you listen carefully to the Man in a Hurry Episode, on one occasion
you can detect his voice dropping. When he takes his keys back after
Mr. Tucker steals his truck..he says something like I'll keep an eye on
them from here on out in a deeper than Gomer voice.

On Gomer Pyle USMC...a few times he gets real serious, like when he is
commanding Close Order Drills when he goes into a serious non-Gomer
voice.

What do you think Howard Morris sounds like when he is not Ernest T
bass, George the TV repairman, or Leonard Blush? Serious question..I
don't know if I've ever heard him out-of-character.

Now for the toughie.. IS Mr. Schwamp was audible..who do you think he
would sound like? (and I don't mean Marcel Marceau) . I think he would
sound a little like Orville Hendrix, the Butter and Egg man.
Well you walk around town all day, it's bound to happen. You get
invited to a party, you have a little root beer, you get a buzz, you
ask a lady to dance..all you can do is grin and nod, That's why I wear
my very finest suit. How do I keep my hair so shiny? Crack a few eggs
and mix in a little sweet butter!

The Untrained Voice
Studying on some of those more Trained Voices..Jim Nabors. Howard
Morris, Gregory Peck, Dr. Pendyke
All together now that's the Actor in the Man

Added to the Court Record!!

2009-04-27 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
This is a good one Mike, Good job!!

Haven't noticed anyone mentioning the short hearing that was held
when Andy
made Barney Justice of the Peace so he could try Andy for parking in a
NO
PARKING zone after Opie and his pals pushed the squad car in front of
the
sign. This is one of Andy's funniest performances as he talks himself
out
of the situation, ending with Barney slamming the gavel and yelling NOT
GUILTY!!!
I believe that was the Runaway Kid episode where Andy told Opie how he
should never betray a confidence. I didn't want to so I didn't push
too hard -- Opie

FW: Holding court at the courthouse

2009-04-24 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
OK Last call on this subject

How many times was an official Court proceeding, a Case, or a hearing
actually held at the courthouse??

2 marriages right?

-- Rose (episode 1)

--- Barney and Melissa (called off before completion) This was
mentioned also as a breach of promise hearing, but Andy actually called
them and ask then come by my office

---The memorable trial of Sheriff Taylor that Barney took the stand and
saved Andy's Job for the College Kid sham article

---The quick trials of everyone that Barney arrested in One Day,
starting with Jud Fletcher.

---The Case of the Bingo Ladies Auxiliary. (Guilty, with suspended
sentence)

--The Trial of the Lady speeder (Mayor's Court, with a small
gallery_--Barney in Waders

--and the brash young Man (Bill Bixby) (wasn't Barney is his waders
for that one?)

--Otis Sues the County, Mr. Roberts presides over the preliminary
judicial proceedings in Otis v. Mayberry County. Again, the plaintiffs
were
pushing for a settlement.

--Perhaps the brief hearing for the Case of the punch in the Nose (even
though Barney wasn't there)

What else that was official? And wouldn't the County Clerk have to
record all these events?

Just pondering with my bucket on.

RE; Holding Court at the Courthouse

2009-04-22 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
While give ya'll a chance to respond to my question about official
Court Business at the Courthouse, I have to add a fact about the Lady
Speeder case.

It was actually Mayor's Court with Mayor Pike presiding. And it was
one of the few cases where there was a small gallery of witnesses
unrelated to either party in the case.

As far as my friend Ken wanting a uniformDo you have a girl up in
the hills that is sweet on you, but likes Jelsic better because he's got
a uniform?

I smell gas
