[Audyssey] Is anyone playing plast chamber with a gamepad?
Hi to all. Just was wondering if anyone is playing the following games with a gamepad joystick instead of constantly being tied to the keyboard and what they are using? The games are Hunter, Troopanun one and two, and especially pipe one classic and especially pipe two blast chamber. I have the Philips Retractable Game Controller model 2909 and it works great for Jim Kitchen's Puppy One WW 2 Dog Fighting flight simulator and the up coming Three D Velocity hand to ear flight simulators. But I can't get it to work with the hand to ear games. Especially my favorite Blast Chamber. Its pretty bad when a beta tester can't even complete the first pipe in the training mode. So I was looking for something that I could enjoy the hand to ear games and hand to ear flight simulators without being tied to the keyboard. I'm especially looking for something with Force feedback for as realistic play as possible for the newer games. But any and all advice will be deeply appreciated. For those shipping me advice. So that we don't tie up the list my address is at the bottom of this letter. But you also might want to throw it out to the list to help others who might be asking the same question. When you ship me info on a USB item. Please give as much info as possible. Where you got it, approxmently how much it was, a description of where and what all the features are and if and or where one could down load a manual for it to read up on the unit. I realize that most stores will give you 30 days to examine the product. But it helps to have that physical examination of the product from actual experience of a product both good and bad. I thank all in advance. Ron who would like to untie himself from the keyboard when he's flying or playing the games. Re: [Audyssey] Please help spread the following information
Hi Kelly. I picked up my copy of Microsoft Flight simulator version x which is version ten one day out of the last week of October of 2009. It ran me $44 and some change. IYP will cost you an additional roughly $50. but the up grades are free. So that's a one time fee of $50. If you would like? Go to the IYP web page and go down to the You tube videos and or the new you tube videos. or if you already have a copy of fsx, down load the 15 day free demo. With the 15 day demo, you have access to test out all of the features but you're restricted to the Cessna 172 Sky Hock. The only real drawn back is that it's all talk interface. But the good news is that it's as real as you'll ever get. It also looks like there'll be a FSX version for 2010. If anyone has that version? We'd appreciate someone telling us 1. where they were able to pick it up at or if it could be down loaded. 2. If there's a discount for we who alread have FSX. 3. What they thought of it and if it's worth up grading or staying with just the FSX? Thanks. [Audyssey] Please help spread the following information
For all of my blind friends who have a interest in flying your own airplanes. I ask that you read the letter that's down below and help to spread the word about a new blind friendly flight simulator. Are you a interested blind person who if were sighted knows that they'd be flying in a airplane as a pilot for a career? Are you a retired pilot because you are now blind and are unable to continue to fly in your chosen career? If you're a retired pilot because you're blind, would you like to get back into the cockpit once again and to also share your knowledge and experiences to keep this program as realistic as possible? Then be sure to read the letter that's down below my intro letter; it includes all of the information that you'll want to know about the IYP flight simulator application that's blind friendly. If this interests you, or if you know of a fellow blind person that this might interest as well, then please read the letter and it's attachment down below and then pass it along to as many people that you know might be interested. I think once you test fly the program you'll be as hooked as this blind pilot love to be is. Also for tips and tricks we have our own blind pilots mailing list as well. If you'd like to subscribe to that list go to b...@googlegroups.com I thank you and now here's the letter that I'd like everyone to read and help circulate to every interested blind person who wished that they could fly. >From Pacific Feelings Media, Corporate Office 36025 Empress Drive Abbotsford, BC V3G 1L2, Canada This letter, dated September 2010, is directed to organizations that help the blind to enjoy life to the fullest, and to all interested blind or visually impaired people. "I'm a blind pilot, but at one time in the past I used to fly the real thing. I love your program. It has given me back some part of my old life that I was forced to leave behind thanks for giving me back my wings." Roy - Australia The above quote was sent to us by one of the many pilots who are using our program, It's Your Plane (IYP), in conjunction with Microsoft's Flight Simulator, to enable them to "fly" a variety of aircraft using their computers. We hope to encourage more blind and visually impaired (BVI) people to join the ranks of aviation fans around the world, thereby enabling them to participate and contribute to our passion in a way no one would have thought possible just a few short years ago. In this regard, I would like to arrange to meet with your group. In case you are not familiar with flight simulation, let me explain. Microsoft developed a program called Flight Simulator to give people the virtual thrill of flying from their home computers. Robert Cezar, the owner of Pacific Feelings Media, originally came up with the idea of using Microsoft's program together with speech recognition software, to help novice users "fly" their aircraft in a more "realistic" way, by communicating with an extremely intelligent Co-Pilot named Michelle (there's also Mike). The application is called It's Your Plane (IYP). This venture gained momentum and a slew of extra features was added to the IYP software. At that time, the flight sim hobby was not an option for the majority of blind people. This was soon to change! A little over a year ago, a small group of young, blind people approached us and told us that they were using our software to fly. After many hours of discussion, and trial and error, we released the next version of IYP that was more tailored towards blind and visually impaired pilots. Many more BVI pilots have joined our user base since then, and the development has never stood still. At least once a month we have introduced new features to help the BVI group get a better understanding of what it takes to fly and navigate an aircraft. We have a forum that caters specifically to blind people in which many BVI users help each other, and we are proud of the fact that they are getting more and more knowledgeable about this hobby. "I am another blind pilot enthusiast who really is getting back into it after a year off because no software existed that I could use before It's Your Plane came around. I do want to sincerely thank you so very much for your efforts and your willingness to work with us who are blind and giving us the opportunity to fly and enjoy this awesome software." Mike - USA For further information, I have attached a letter from one of the original group of young blind pilots. We have now reached a point where we feel that more blind and visually impaired people should have the chance of "getting their wings". Although I travel quite a bit, I live in Rancho Cordova, California, and would like to arrange a mutually convenient time for us to explore the opportunity for your special group to learn more about the art of flying, and to experience the thrill that most of us sighted people tend to take for granted. Thank you kindly for your time and attention. Yours sincerely,

[Audyssey] Looking for some usb gamepad advice.
I wrote this letter about a week ago with no feedback. Could someone please read the letter below and write me back. Now here's the letter. Hi to all, I'm thinking of up dating my philips 2909. Someone recommended a ps3 usb gamepad. Just was wondering if anyone from the list has one and if so, what they think of it? Also was looking for a layout of all of the buttons and their features and if it has one stick or two. Also, if at all possible, a txt copy of the manual would be nice as well. I'm looking for something that has force feedback of course. Then must work with the three flight simulators. Jim Kitchen's puppy one, BPC Programs tdv and let's see if we can't get it to work with fsx and IYP. The jurrey is still out on fsx and IYP. Would like it to work with aliens in the outback. Then from bsc games classic pipe, hunter, troopanum and especially blast chamber. The philips 2909 works greatwith puppy one and tdv, but I can't get it to work with blast chamber and it's tricky to get it to work with the other above mentioned games. So was looking for some advice to up grade. Someone told me that it does work with blast chamber. I think the problem I was having with the philips 2909 and blast chamber is that I couldn't twist off the valves. I couldn't even get through the practice round with the usb handheld and that's bad enough. SMILES. So thanks to all in advance. Re: [Audyssey] Advice on gamepads
Hi Lori, from Ron and leader dog Boz. I am using the following game pad. Philips retractable game controller model 2909. I heard that there's now a 2910 out now but don't know what the differences would be. I too am looking to up grade my gamepad. I never could get it to work with blast chamber. But if you're looking for help via the keyboard? Let me know. We had a blast beta testing that game out. Just curious if you've defused the bomb yet. SMILES. If you have a question and I can answerit for you, the address is at the bottom of the letter. Are you into flight simulators? There are two blind friendly flight simulators out there and one is free and the second one is getting the bugs worked out of it as we speak. The first one is called puppy one and it is free. Go to www.kitchensinc.net Jim Kitchen is blind andwriteswindow games for free. The second simulator is called three D velocity. This is still a beta but I think you'll enjoy it. The address is www.bpcprograms.com Then go to down loads, then to the games down load then to the threeD velocity folder then to the down load button. Hope this helps. Ron who also is looking for a new game pad that would work with the hand to ear flight simulators and as many of the hand to ear games as possible. Re: [Audyssey] Online games
Well, my brother and I have been playing a online truck driving game since around December of 08. For we jaws users you'll need to have your navigation keys turned on to be able to play it. Aboutt the only thing that isn't blind friendly is the GPS system. But if you'd like to give the game a test drive? The web page is at www.trukz.com If you do decide to sign up? Check out the Big Mountain Express Company. If you have enough vision to see the computer monitor? You'll have all kinds of slashing lights and the truck's dashboard flashing at you. Also, if you decide to drive this game. There's roughly a handful of blind drivers that are all willing to lend a hand for help. Also, most of the players are related to actual truck drivers, are drivers themselves, or are retired drivers. But are still willing to help out where needed. It is a friendly and competative little group. Make sure you keep a eye on the bulletins, the experation date on your goodies for your truck, your truck and everything else. SMILES. [Audyssey] Looking for some It's Your Plane help.
I'm not sure if the Avast anti virus is blocking IYP from loading or if the Super Spy ware program is blocking IYP from loading. But here's the problem that I am having. I performed the following. I turned off the UAC and rebooted my PC. When windows came back up I tested the speech recognition. Since it was working ok I went and fired up FSX. I made sure that the Cessna c 172 sky hock was sitting on the runway with the engines humming in the background. When I go to fire up IYP. I am seeing the following error message. Here's the error message that I am receiving. It's your plane version 4.1. For The good news is that the simulator is running. So IYP is seeing that. But what IYP is not repeat not seeing is as follows: no aircraft has been detected ok, it appears as though the simulator is running. Now if the sim is running, why isn't IYP seeing that the Cessna c 172 sky hock is actually sitting on the runway?! Here's the rest of the error message. How ever it also appears as though the aircraft is not yet running. Now if you can hear the engines running in the background, doesn't this mean that the aircraft is running? Here's the rest of the error message. If the program does not start with the plane loaded and running then please prefer to our web site. That's the entire message. The program wants me to exit out of the program and it does not fire up. I can not hear Michelle so that I can throw in the code. [Audyssey] Michelle is finally hearing my commands.
To my game playing friends. First of all I thank you all for your help with the voice interface program and MS's Flight simulator. Please read the letter below that I sent to It's Your Plane. I need one last little assistance with getting started. So please read the letter below and hopefully in the morning I'll read my mail and I'll finally be able to fly at last. Hey Robert!! Michelle is finally hearing my commands at last. This is the good news. The bad news is the only command that she is hearing is the please help me command. Then she goes into all kinds of nav commands for being in the air.I can't seem to shut her up though. Since I'm hearing the blips I hopefully can assume that the blind pilot mode is turned on? At least I told it to turn blind pilot mode on. How do I get started? My flight plan is from Erie International KERI to Harrisburg/Capitol City International. KCXY. I am flying the demo Cessna N 760 PL and I am flying IFR. Do I say Erie International this is n 760 pl or what to get started. I've tried saying start cold and dark. I've tried start pre-flight and all that I get is the blips. Michelle doesn't come back and say blind pilot mode on or anything. All that I get is the sound blips. Before you ask it. Yes when I fired up IYP I was up graded to version 181. Any advice? I had to turn UTC back on so that I could write this letter. The PC was going nuts with it turned off. So she's finally hearing my first command. How do we have her hear my next command? In short, how do I get started. How do I get the airport to hear me? I should already be on the runway. Thanks. I now have clear audio output via the speakers. Still not just yet via the headset. I just did a speech training and it recognized my voice. So that's working once again. I just tested windows recorder and it too is now running once again. So everything is now working once again except I have no audio output through the usb mic nor do I have any audio output through the cordless headset as well. I think the reason why there's no audio output through the cordless headset is because I don't have the splitter plugged in. Re: [Audyssey] Song for ignorant sighted people to hear
Hi Jacob from Ron and Leader Dog Boz. I loved your little song and you're correct. The song is short, sweet and to the point. I'm a ham radio operator and I have a few friends that disk jockies. I've shipped your song to them asking if they'd air it for us. I've also shipped it to a few friends who are also blind and thought that they too would enjoy the song and to see if they too could get it on the air in their home cities as well. I think this is what we all ought to do as responsible disabled adults. Because how are the sighted going to know how to help us if we don't educate them in the first place. Now of course we will run up against those who don't want to be educated. But here's hoping that we can educate just one person for each of us. I think as a blind person we all can relate to what happens in this song in our personal private lives asa blind person just growing up in a sighted world. Thanks once again. Ron and Boz. Re: [Audyssey] this blind thing
Now I agree with Chuck. List the games and where to down load them. Also, list the podcast walk throughs of the games and where to find them as well. I've always said the following. 99 percent of the sighted world needs to do the following. Put on a blindfold and have us take their carkeys away from them. Now see how they use the remotes to their stereos, their TV sets, Their DVD players. Wonder if they could get around their own homes with the lights out? SMILES. Its funny but it is sad. Roughly 99 percent of the sighted just don't know us. If they don't work with someone or have a relative in their family with a disability, they don't know us and don't want to know us. Now for the one percent that truely know us has to educate the 99 percent that don't. I'll share a story with my fellow gamers. My brother Matt and I have lived where were at for twenty years now. our long not seen Aunt came down for a visit with her new loud mouth know it all of a husband. Matt and I are constantly going up and down stairs running arans and what have you for our mother. Now we all have our safety clues throughout the house that the sighted don't pick up on. We have a throw rug at the top of our stairs. I think this is the only clue that we have in the house. The funny thing was this. Our new Uncle saw us running up and down the stairs and what have you. He stated, you sure do know your way around the house. Well, wouldn't you after living in the house for roughly ten years at that time? Now come on now. If you need a cane or a dog in your own home after ten years, you're in serious trouble. I know most of us were brought up knowing that the only stupid question is the one never asked or thought of asking since we've probably heard them all by now. We can usually tell if someone is asking a question to be mean towards us or would like to be educated to help someone that they might run into on the street. This is why the supply and demand of almost anything for the blind is so expensive and in so low of supply. The sighted world just don't want us. I was in a school for the blind for roughly two years back in the 70's. Luckily ma saw how depressed I was getting from being in a school with so many multi handicapt children. It was no pinick and we all have our war stories from being in a regular school system. This is because the sighted world doesn't want us in their world. Just my two cents worth on this topic. Ron who now needs to go feed the dogs. Hi to all, from Ron Kolesar. I have the Philips retractable 2909 game pad and I have the following questions about it. I know where the following buttons are at. 1 through 8. Can anyone tell me where and how to use buttons 9, 10, 11, 12 and the speed buttons are at. Also, one more thing. Say from twelve o'clock, three o'clock, six o'clock and nine o'clock, what and how do you use the four buttons around the two sticks? Also, what are the four buttons to the extreme left side in a diamond pattern as well. I extremely thank those fellow blind gamers who can help me with my questions. Thanks for this Zack. Have you tested out the new Three D velocity sim out yet? If not you need to jump on board. Is the newer program that you mention still all voice or is there some hands on? I myself haven't really done much with it in a while, college taking precedence over fun. Anyhow, it's Christmas break now, and so I've begun tinkering again. In the spirit of "choice is good", I've been investigating possible alternatives to Itsyourplane. One program who's developer seems interested in making accessibility aids for us is called Multicrew experience. It's geared towards the larger airliners we usually fly and is roughly comparable to IYP at this point in feature terms. I'll keep the list posted as to what changes and how this pans out, but for now this is just a heads up to say this program exists. It's at www.multicrewxp.com, and has a free trial available. [Audyssey] What size vid cards will work with fsx?
To my fellow blind fliers. I now have a registered copy of fsx gold. Like most of us though we have a low end on board vid card since most of our needs is audio and not much video. So I was wondering what size vid card would work with Microsoft Flight simulator and roughly how much would it be. So in short, could someone get away with a 16 bit card, a 32 bit card or a 64 bit card for fsx and roughly how much would they be. This might have to be a Christmas project. Re: [Audyssey] were to down load games?
Hi Lisa, from ron Kolesar and Leader Dog Boz. First go to kitchensinc.net This is Mr. Jim Kitchen's web page full of free windows games. If you're into flying? Check out his puppy one flying game. Then go to BSC Games. Their web page is www.bscgames.com Here there's demos of the games for a roughly ten day demo of each game. The game I would highly recommend are as follows: Pipe one or two. Pipe one is classic pipe and pipe two is the blast chamber version which i had a blast helping to bug test. Then there's troopanum and then there's hunter. Then go to www.bpcprograms.com Then go to their down load page. The one main game to down load that is still a beta version or still being worked on is the Three D Velocity flying simulator for we blind pilot love to be's. The best way to describe this is a cross between the two movies top gun and iron eagles. So you have come to the right place to ask your gaming questions. Have fun. [Audyssey] talking about flight contorlers.
It would be nice to see which brands of gamepads work with the hand to ear games. Or which gamepads work with the largest majority of the hand to ear games. I wish to untie myself from the keyboard as well. I've gone through two gamepads thus far. A logic tech which rand around $100 which I was able to get my money back and the Philips retractable 2909. I'm working with the philips retractable 2909 gamepad. The gamepad is a duel stick gamepad. So far I see that it works with Jim Kitchen's puppy one. I am working level by level testing out hunter from BSC Games with the gamepad. So far with some practice I've gotten as far as valley of the tigers with it. With the game troopanum I've gotten about level nine or ten with it. I'm having problems landing the ship with the gamepad. So far I've been able to play the side scroller level with blast chamber. But having problems finding the correct pipe and shutting it off in time. Having some problems with the gamepad with Three D Velocity. Not sure if that is pilot error or game error at this time. So once again, it would be nice to see which game pad or game pads work with the majority of the hand to ear games to make them more realistic and more enjoyable to play I say majority of the games. The reason why I say this is that you don't want to pick up a game pad and have it only work with one game. If you had a game pad and or a flight yoke that would handle say for example Puppy one, mach 1, aliens in the outback, lone wolf, tank commander, and the star trek game. Then have that same pad work with Troopanum, hunter and blast chamber and Three D velocity as well. This would be great. You would have one pad that would work with the majority of the h to e game that are out there on the market for we gamers to enjoy. So that is my two cents of this topic. [Audyssey] For all TDV pilots.
Just something that I notice while playing both by the keyboard and by the philips 2909 gamepad. It looks like to get your turning beacon to kick in so that you can see where you're flying. Your pov view must be in the internal pov. You would think it would be external pov view for it to work since you are looking out of your cockpit windshield to see where you are going. Doesn't that make since. Thought my fellow pilots would want to knwo this. Also, it looks like the right hand controler is for both your speed and for steering. If I am wrong about this? Could one of my fellow TDV pilots let me know. Thanks for the help. Ron who;'s going to be the first blind pilot. [Audyssey] TDV and the Philips 2909 gamepad
Hi to one and all. I need to find a new headset before I seriously stress test the new TDV beta. I've played a couple of racing rounds and won one. I am curious though. Like I asked in the subject. Is anyone playing TDV with the philips 2909 game pad that some of us picked up from walmart? If so? How successful are you in the game with it. Also, I threw this out on the BSC Games mailing list with no luck. Just was wondering if anyone is playing the pipe version two Blast Chamber game with the 2909 and how successful are they? I used the cheat codes with it yesterday for a game of all side scrollers. I did pretty good with that. It looks like my problem is finding the correct pipe and twisting the valve with the gamepad. Any and all advice would be appreciated it. Its pretty bad to be a beta tester for the game and not being able to get out of the practice round with the gamepad. The only problem I'm having with troopanum is landing the spaceship safely in the first bonus level. I'm working level by level with hunter and it looks like the philips works pretty nicely with hunter. I've gotten as far as the valley of the tigers thus far. It does take some practice to convert from the keyboard to the gamepad. So to my fellow gamers have fun and competition and to brag to begin. LOL. Hi to one and all. The Morse Code or better known as C W requirement for we ham radio operators was dropped around 04 or 05. I sure am glad that in 2000 they had dropped the CW requirement to only 5wpm. I couldn't pick out the 13 and the 20 wpm exams. For those interested there are now only three written exams and the Morse Code requirement has bee dropped altogether. The three levels are Technician or Tech for short, the General which you have to be at a general level if you want to be a examiner and the extra which I now hold since January of 01. Hi to all, from Ron and Boz. For those working on the MSFS coversion to make it blind friendly. Re: [Audyssey] Getting target distance and direction.
Now tom this sounds promising. With a little practice I think you would be able to manage this type of system. Hi, Yeah, one thing I didn't mention earlier is that the distance/direction command or commands would be only for the currently selected target. I am using a targeting system similar to GMA Tank Commander. You would use the n key to cycle through the available targets in firing range, and use the distance/direction commands to find out where the target is in relation to you. This seams to me the most accessible way to do it in a full 3d environment. Obviously, I will have a targeting beep to help line things up, but I figure some players might need some frequent verbal feedback as well. shaun everiss wrote: > I like the first option. > the only thing though, is you really need to set it for single enemy only, I don't want a big list unless it is a list ofcause then I select one lock it, etc. > in sod and other such games for example depending on the direction I know when it is in front and definately with the drum allert know when its behind. > I know if its aproximitly in front of me i should hit it. > Saying it that I do then use the distance key for shortrange weapons and sometimes longrange weapons. > I would have a key that would tell me that info on you system and maybe have some sort of lock on thing where you get in range of it and it of you. > Although in sod night of parasite, etc its possible to get in a position where the enemy can see you but you are not in a position to fire back, ie something is blocking even though you could be about in range. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. LOL! I know this is a big long shot. But, does anyone know of any places where one can telnet to and still play the legend of the Red Dragon game? Thinking about muds and the like has reminded me that I used to love playing the old LORD game. There are a few online versions of LORD,not talking about LOTGD, which is legend of the green Dragon, but they are Java based, and don't look very accessible for screen readers. It would be nice to find an online version that was playable. [Audyssey] Is this what everyone has been talking about?
Hi to all, from blind pilot blind astronaut love to be Ron and Leader Dog Boz. Have been out to the blind cool tech web page and found the following pod casts to listen to on the topic of Micro soft flight Simulator for the blind. If these are not what everyone has been talking about the last couple of days for down load last night or sometime over this weekend? Please let me know when the newer up to date files will be ready to down load. But while we are waiting for up to date files so that we could access Micro soft's flight Simulator I suggest that you listen to the following two files. Flight Simulator 2 11/3/2007 Scott Shade takes you through the menus of Flight Simulator 2002, handles some rough weather, explains FS Navigator, designs a flight plan, and demonstrates the sounds (in stereo) of three aircraft (crashing two of them in the process.) 75.3 MB I also found FS2002 Takeoffs 7/7/2008 Aaron Hoffman solves the problem of how the blind pilot takes off with Flight Simulater 2002 and FS Navigater. 15.4 MB So I hope this helps everyone out while we're all waiting for any new up to date assistance to be able to fly.
