I usually have had to do a recover after a crash from the backup or the
previous backup in the same directory as the original .ddb file, and in
fact I have had to do that at least twice in the last week with this board,
which is probably why I am in paranoid

test drive it for ourselves.
The bottom line is this:
No one can insist that any software application is stable when it exhibits
such a fundamental programming error as KLUNK! for such a long period of
time.

and hence it is 0.27mm.
Where in the spec did you get the 0.27mm number?
I looked at pages 59 and 60 of the spec and saw that the 90 ball beast
actually wants a 0.33mm pad diameter according to Note 2 on page 60.
